Uploading songs from another computer

I am hoping that someone can help with with these - I can generally work stuff out, but can't find this anywhere.
I have a friend who has bought an ipod for their daughter, but their computer is not connected to the internet. I have offered to set up on my home computer, but can the child access music from a friends computer without losing their original content? and Can she use itunes on her computer to upload CD's without being connected to the net?

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you just drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:

Note: When changing from automatic to manual, check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. "Don't" uncheck Sync Music in the Music tab, it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting, if you uncheck it without setting the iPod to manual first you'll erase all the songs from your iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

Yes but it would probably overwrite the songs currently on your iPod when it syncs to the new computer.

For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid. Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.

Upload songs from different computer

Anyone know how to upload songs from different computers? It will prompt a error it detect my ipod has songs from another library and ask me to link to current one, if i do so, it will erase all my existing songs. Anyone has solution to this?

By default the iPod is set to "automatically manage songs and playlists", which is why you get the iTunes warning telling you the iPod is linked to another library when you connect it to a computer it hasn't been on before. If you want to use it on more than one computer then connect your iPod to your main computer and change the update setting. Once it's connected and showing in iTunes go to Edit>Preferences>iPod and change the update method to to "manually manage songs and playlists":

Me and my friend are going to be using the Airtunes feature of the Airport Express for a party. Not many of the people attending have iPhones or iPod touches. Is there a program that can be run on other phones that can request songs? If not, is there a way to request songs from another mac or computer on the network?

Yes. You can share items in your iTunes library with up to five other computers on your local network. While your computer is on and iTunes is open, others in your network can play your shared items, but shared items can’t be imported into others’ libraries.
If you want to import items from other iTunes libraries on other computers in your home, you can turn on Home Sharing. You can use Home Sharing with up to five computers. To use Home Sharing, you must have an iTunes Store account.
Since this is not really an AirPort networking issue, I suggest that you repost your questions in the iTunes Discussions area to get more relevant responses.

I can import some songs from another computer but not others. All the songs were purchased with the same apple id. Message says "...check connection to network..." Any ideas as to what could be causing this problem?

Using home share, I can import some songs from my son's computer but not others. All the songs were purchased with the same apple id. Err msg:"There was a problem downloading ... You do not have enouggh access privileges for this operation. Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again." The network appears to be fine . I can import other songs from his library. The same songs cause me a problem each time I try. My husband had no trouble importing the same songs I have trouble with. I get the same error message if I try to import the same songs from my husbands computer as well. "Command I" appears to show the same protections on both the songs I can import & the ones I cannot. My husband and son are both running OS 10.6, while I am running 10.7. I think I had this problem even before I upgraded, but I am not certain.

My first suggestion is to Repair Disk. Here's how:
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior

Downloading songs from another computer

my home computer's CD drive wont allow me to copy songs from CDs. Now i am at my brothers house and i cannot link to his without erasing all of my songs. is there any way to get this music onto my ipod?

Not really, the Shuffle works differently from other iPods and is designed to be linked to only one computer. What is wrong with your CD drive?

Add a few songs from another computer

I regularly sinc my phone at home, but just gots some MP3s on my work computer that I'd like to put on my iphone. Both are "authorized". But when I try to sinc at the office, it wants to erase my music on the phone and just put on it what's on my work computer. Anything that I'm totally missing here?

If you regularly have different songs on different computers in iTunes, you might consider to sign up for iTunes Match. This way you could keep a copy of all your songs in iCloud and download missing songs from iCloud, if need be.

Yes, iTunes Match alleviates this situation. As long as iTunes on both of your computers is using the same Apple ID, you can add songs to either one, and once they have uploaded to iCloud, they will be available on any of your iDevices AND in iTunes on the other computer.

Bought songs on another computer

I bought many songs from another computer while in vacation in the US (I bought my ipod there).
Back in france, I cannot make my songs appear in my library, even if my apple account shows all the songs I bought. What should I do and am I abble to buy new songs?

You should have burned a CD of the songs you purchased on the other computer. If it's a friend or family member, I'd ask them if the songs are still on their computer and if they'll burn you a CD with copies. That's always been the easiest way.
But I believe with later-generation iPods you can also download purchased music from your iPod to your computer, but I believe that requires that the computer you purchased the music on be registered as one of the five computers you're allowed to share music on.

Go to the itunes folder and copy all of the songs on to an external hard drive. Then copy them from the hard drive to the other computer
You could also use home sharing which will send the songs over your wireless.

Make a smart playlist of your whole library but only checked songs - #4 on http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1801
Highlight all files in that playlist, then drag to the other drive. This isn't preserving any playlists or whatever, just copying files from one drive to another.
You might want to delete the smart playlist this once you are done because it will probably gobble up resources with that many files.

I am home sharing songs from my computer (library) to another authorized computer (library), the songs will import, but once i sync the iphone (4s) to this computer the songs are shaded and will not import onto the iphone, what the heck is going on?

I am transfering songs from one computer to another using home share. Both machines are authorized in home sharing. The songs import from (my) windows computer to the other (my wifes) authorized MacBook Pro, computer just fine. Once the songs are in the library and i try to sync her Iphone (4s) to her computer the songs ar greyed out and i can't play them nor see them under iPhone after sync is complete. What the heck is going on? BTW, the songs that i have imported are either songs i burned from a CD or songs i have purchased from the iTunes store, so they should sync no problem!? Help please.

Trying to take songs from one computer to another

I am using iTunes on one computer with three ipods. My mother has a laptop and she wants to put all the songs from my computer onto hers so she can use her ipod on her laptop instead of using mine. I searched online to see how to do it and was told to plug ipod in and click on enable disk use, then I went to my computer and dragged over the artists and songs from my music to the ipod. I then plugged the cord for the ipod into my mothers laptop and dragged each artist into itunes under music. When I tried to eject her ipod it said it was in use so I just left it in. When I had plugged it in a box came up that said that the ipod could only be used on one computer so if I wanted to use it on this new computer I would have to delete it. I thought that's what I was supposed to do so I pressed delete. I went through the songs and took out ones I didn't want and then synced her ipod. I took it out and when I go to play a song that is listed under music in the library it says it can not be found. It only works when I have the ipod connected. My father wants to use the laptop as well and I don't understand what happened. Did I mess it up when I pushed delete? Should I take everything off her ipod and then redo it all on my other computer? Although an iPod can be used in disk mode, it is easier to move songs from one computer to another using a USB flash drive.
When the songs are on the computer where you want them, add them to the iTunes library on that computer, and then you will be ready to sync the iPod.
