Uploading to godaddy

just got off the phone with godaddy. the guy i was talking to didn't really know what a mac was, i don't think. he told me that the safari ftp wouldn't work? it doesn't copy to their server? the hosting manager doesn't work either. then, he told me to get filezilla (ftp client), which is for windowz. am i going about this all wrong? or what is a good ftp deal for the mac? thanks in advance.

when I publish my site to folder, I
inadverntatly published all my iweb sites as well.
Is the index.html file I need to upload the one
found outside the site folder or inside of it?
When you publish, make sure that the site for Godaddy is at the top of the list. Then the index.html file you need to upload is the one outside the folder which has the same name as your site does inside iWeb.
Do I need to delete the files currently on the remote
system? I guess these are the files that make up the
godaddy "coming soon" information?
I don't think so.
Do you need to
open the iweb created folder and upload the contents
instead of the folder as a whole?
You upload the entire folder as a whole which has the same name as your site does inside iWeb.
Should I not use the godaddy ftp client?
Right, you should not use it. You should use a real ftp program.

  • Uploading to GoDaddy using Dreamweaver CS5

I am trying to upload a website to Godaddy using the Site Setup in Dreamweaver CS5. I have the following settings selected:
    Connect using: FTP
    FTP Address: http://www.godaddy.com
    Username and password are correct
    Port: 21
    Root Directory: testing
    web URL: http://www.stateline7.com/testing
Am I using the wrong port #? or the wrong FTP Address? Not sure what to do from here. When i hit test, I get an error message after it tries to connect.
I also posted this forum question on the Godaddy help site, but I thought it couldn't hurt to post it here too.

I ended up calling Godaddy's Tech support- there were several issues, one was the www.stateline7.com instead of godaddy.com. The other issue was my username was wrong. My first website tst page is uploaded and functional!

  • Publish to folder, which part to upload to godaddy?

I have read the instructions on godaddy to upload an iweb site from iweb 08.
But im not sure if i have to upload the "index.html and the site folder" inside a folder, or should i upload them as 2 separate files.
Here are the godaddy instructions, if i follow them im will be uploading both the index.html and the site folder, inside a folder.....
Publishing Your Site with iWeb '08
From the File menu, select Publish to a Folder...
In the pop-up box, click Desktop on the left, then click the New Folder button.
Enter a name for the Web site, then click Create.
Be sure the new folder is selected, then click Choose.
Once the site has completed publishing to the folder, a confirmation message will appear.
iWeb will create an index file, and a folder with the site's name. Please be sure to upload both the index file and the folder to the root of the hosting account for the site to operate properly. See the following articles for help:

You won't get the double domain name or you don't have to have it if you re-name your site within iWeb itself, so call it something like Site or S and then you get http://www.domain.com/S/pagename.
Still kind of ugly. I just want www.domain.com like all the cool kids have!
If you want your RSS feeds to work, then you need to upload the Site folder and index file. If you are not worried about this, then just upload the contents of the site folder and your url will then be http://www.domain.com/pagename.
that's right. I remember there's one thing that didn't work if you only upload the contents of the site folder - the RSS feed. I don't care about that, and I do care about having a standard URL, so I just upload the content of the site folder, and don't stress the RSS.
As for where to upload it into Godaddy - that's never been a problem for me (and I'm not very web savvy). If it's just a simple root level upload, when I log into my Godaddy account using Fetch, I get a screen for the site (godaddy will already have a few files of its own in there). I simply drag the contents of my site folder onto the Fetch screen, and all is good.

  • Question re: what files & folders to upload to godaddy hosting account

I created a small website in a local folder named "lovecake." Inside are three folders named images, pages, and lightbox_assets. I have a hosting account with godaddy that allows me to have multiple sites. I have three sites on there now. The first one I uploaded before I upgraded my space so that I could have more than one site, so it is not in a separate folder. The other two are in named folders they call directories. I need to upload this site into a folder(directory) named "alina" that I created for the domain name of livelovecake.net. I plan to upload with Fetch, which I have used before rather than trying to use DW to upload because I have to make sure that I upload my sites into separate folders which I know how to do with Fetch, but am not sure how I would do it with DW.  Do I need to upload the whole folder on my computer named "lovecake" with its contents into the "alina" folder, or do I just upload the folders inside "lovecake," eg., images, pages, and lightbox_assets? Will there be a problem because the folder on my computer and the folder on my godaddy hosting account have different names? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good to hear you figured it out, sedona. Just a quick thought: Do you know about Dreamweaver's Synchronize command (Site > Synchronize Sitewide)? If not, it might be worth reading up on. Now that your site is uploaded, it can be tricky to remember what files have been modified, added, etc., once you start updating pages, making changes, and so on.

Thanks Geoff for the tip. I will read up on it. The site I just made is very simple and only 5 pages, since it is my first effort in DW and I was just getting my feet wet-have used iWeb in the past. But I hope to do something more complicated in the future, so will probably need to keep better track of stuff.

This it what i get when uploaded to godaddy ftp????

  • Iweb not updating changes since moved to godaddy

Today I switched from mobileme to godaddy and everything worked fine. Then I cancelled the mobileme account. Now when I make changes in iweb and save to a folder, the changes are not being saved in the folder. (I'm trying to change my contact info & delete my email address). The edited page appears changed in iweb, but when I look in the folder it created, the email address is still there. This is the process I'm using:
    1. Make changes in iweb
    2. Save changes
    3. publish to folder in iweb (on desktop)
    4. Using Fetch to upload to godaddy server.
I get no error messages with iweb, Fetch or Godaddy. (In iweb site inspector, I changed site name to http://www.babysmithsite.com
    url contact page: http://www.babysmithsite.com/Contact.html
    Any ideas?

Sorry I wasnt clear about this. What I was trying to accomplish was to develop a site that only family members could access (with user name and password) and that the bots couldnt sniff my email address.
After everything was working on godaddy, I decided to change the email address on the site from my PERSONAL email account to a new one I got from godaddy.([email protected])
    1. Deleted the old email address from iweb. Added the new one ([email protected])
    2. Made new folder (site2) and uploaded that via Fetch.
That's when the problems started. The new email address didnt appear on the site. After 4-5 hours, I decided to delete all email addresses from site for security reasons (bots). Finally at 11 pm last nite, I called godaddy and the new page (suddenly) reads correctly with just a phone number and not any email addresses. So now the bots cant sniff my site, but it's still not private. Godaddy says I cant do that with them. Aargh! Mobile me was so much easier but it's 3X more expensive and I only need it for this little family website. Seems like switching wasnt such a good idea. Thanks to everyone for all the help.

  • Help with personal domain and GoDaddy

I have created a website using iWeb.
I have added my personal domain to my .mac account
I have changed the www CNAME to point to web.mac.com (at GoDaddy)
If I enter www.mydomainname.com to takes me to my parked site.
If I enter mydomainname.com (without www)it takes me to my website.
Any ideas on why this is happening and how to fix it?

I have been trying for the last week and a half to put my iWeb on Godaddy and am having a terrible time. How did you do it???????? love, Mary

  • IWeb's built in ftp client won't upload new files

iWeb's built in ftp client is mad at me, refusing to upload new files. No doubt because last Sunday I asked GoDaddy to change my domain name (same site, name changed). They did. Immediately nothing would upload. GoDaddy said "Well some FTPs are picky." Problems continued so I said OK, please change the domain name back to its previous name, and all would be put right again. I thought.
No so. iWeb's ftp client seems still offended for having been disturbed. I make a change. Save. Click Publish Site Changes. Get the window saying Content Rights. Click Continue. The blue line scrolls nicely, "Publishing will continue in the background" shows, then **"Your site has been published"**...
...but no changes or files have been uploaded. The old page is the same.
Looks like I permanently po'd iWeb’s ftp. Should I give up and rebuild my site in a new folder? Try Fetch?
I shouldn't have done that stupid thing last Sunday. Live and learn.
    Help?

The root folder on the server is the top level one that you upload your files to.
You publish your website files to a local folder on your Mac. This produces an index.html file and a folder with the same name as your site in iWeb.
An FTP application transfers the files on your Mac to the root folder on the server using File Transfer Protocol.
Unlike Cyberduck, most shareware FTP applications will show both the files on your Mac and those on the server in the same window so its just a question of browsing to the folder containing your website files on your Mac and dragging them across to the icon of the root folder on your server. The application will take care of the rest.
The process really is just about as simple as dragging files from one folder on your Mac to another as long as you have the FTP application set up correctly.

  • Problem with using new Upload to FTP Host feature...

I tried using the "Upload to FTP Host" feature to upload to GoDaddy.com. It worked fine the first time but now I get this message:
    Error:
Error creating folder //images. Click Resume to try again. If this problem persists, try again later.
I tried a few times and even waited two days but I am still getting the same message. So I tried to "Export as HTML" liked I used to do and now for some reason it will not create a CSS or Scripts folder. Only an images folder.
Also, the first time the "Upload to FTP Host" worked for some reason not all the images were there and the transition box I have is not fading smoothly from one image to the next.
    Please help!!!
    Thanks,
    Melissa

The issue looks like it might be related to a known issue with our FTP upload client. We currently incorrectly assume the server is configured to use / as the root direcotry. We have a fix for the issue, that will be released in an upcoming update (likely to be sooner rather than later). The workaround for it is actually pretty simple though. If you login to your FTP server, you should be able to see what directory you are at, and you can use the full path there to upload successfully.
For example, if you login using a different FTP client, you might see something like /home/users/myuser/ in the address bar. In Muse, in the directory location, if you place /home/users/myuser you will upload to the correct directory. If you want to upload to a specific directory, simply add that to the end of the directory path.
If you are unable to upload after following the above steps, as Abhishek says, it is likely a permissions error. Try exporting first and using a third party client to upload it and let us know if you are able to do so successfully from there.

  • Anybody able to use Web Forms on Godaddy?

I created an empty ASP.NET application by using the VS wizard, first in Visual Studio 2013 (for this one the only setting I changed from the default values was to choose no user authentication so a DB is not needed), then in Visual Studio 2012. I didn't
change a single line of code compared to what the Wizard generated and used FTP to upload to GoDaddy.
Both applications work locally on the dev machine, but neither one works (on any type of browsers) once deployed to GoDaddy. I didn't change anything in the web.config, but the one generated by VS 2103 is almost empty) .Chrome shows error ERR_CONNECTION_RESET,
and enabling detailed errors doesn't work.
GoDaddy support said the problem is with the global.asax but are not able to explain further. From info found on the web and on their site it seems global.asax should be supported. After removing global.asax, the VS 2012 app starts working (but in my app
I need a global.asax!), while the VS 2013 app still doesn't work, throwing an exception about a missing 'respond' resource in System.Web.Extensions.
Has anyone been able to successfully create a Web Forms ASP.NET application with Visual Studio 2012 or 2013 and run it on GoDaddy?

    Hi zoorroo,
Glad you've found your solution. If you have any further questions about ASP.NET, please post in

  • Updating files to godaddy hosting account

I am unable to update one of my website pages using the Dreamweaver application. My FTP connection with godaddy is fine, and it appears my file is uploading to godaddy, but doing this action actually throws the page offline. Godaddy says it is a problem with Dreamweaver. Can anyone assist me with this? I am using Dreamweaver CS4.  I am not having this issue with other pages on my website.

www.cafesam.net/news and www.cafesam.net/news1 had to be uploaded using the godaddy ftp client. I cannot upload the news page or news1 through the Dreamweaver application. When I try updating the page from Dreamweaver, I get confirmation of a connection to the godaddy server - everything works as usual with no error messages - but then what actually happens is the news page is taken offline. Godaddy is saying that Dreamweaver is communicating with their server to take down the old page and put up the new page, but something gets cut off in the process whereby the new (updated) page never makes it to the godaddy server. If you try to open the news page online I get "page not found" (see image below).
I am not having any problems updating other pages on the website with Dreamweaver. All of my settings, passwords, etc. are correct. I've been using Dreamweaver CS4 for four years without any issues until now.

  • My Muse stops ftp uploading

Please help ... my muse stops uploading between 60%-80%
    I am uploading to GoDaddy.

Thank you for your prompt reply.
I am using the built in FTP feature.
I click to upload only "changed files" and muse still uploads all files, when it does that, it gets stuck when its trying to upload all the images "again". Its stops at about 65-80%.

  • How to upload to ROOT?

Whenever I upload my site to my FTP server, Dreamweaver uploads the site all packaged inside of a folder to the root directory. How do I upload it so it doesn't package everything into a folder and uploads the files directly to the root directory?

Yup, that is exactly how I have it. Here is an example:
    My Website (folder)
    Images (folder)
    Image 1
    Image 2
    index.html
    contact.html
    about.html
If I leave the root directory field blank, this is how it uploads to GoDaddy:
    ROOT
    My Website (folder)
    Images (folder)
    Image 1
    Image 2
    index.html
    contact.html
    about.html
So as you can see, it all gets uploaded into a subfolder. If  dont move everything from inside the My Website folder directly into the ROOT, people are not able to connect to the website.
