Uploading to Google Video issues...

Google video specs state they are 4:3 aspect ratio.:
Here are our preferred video specs:
NTSC (4:3) size and framerate, deinterlaced
Video Codec: MPEG2 or MPEG4 (MPEG4 preferred)
Video Bitrate: at least 260Kbps (750kbps preferred)
Audio Codec: MP3 vbr
Audio Bitrate: at least 70Kbps (128 Kbps preferred)
I have compressed my video with Quicktime conversion to a 640x480 NTSC size - yet still when I send the link to my web designer and its in the player - we have borders showing up...?
Anyone know why and how it can be avoided? This is really vexing me!

Encode time for 43 min : 49 sec. QT6 for Web download MP4 29.97 fps 800 kbs. I changed screen size as well to 640 w, but I don't think this changes the encoding; just the default screen size on play. Image was noticeably sharper than MP4 done with Compressor 1.x (large progressive) without any really noticeable increase in artifacts; certainly a lot sharper than H.264. In fact, both look too soft by comparison. With respect to H.264, I noticed that there was a setting in the property inspector for adaptive detail which was off. I imagine that the I could tweak the settings so the image would not be so soft.
All in all, I think the setting Chris Clarke recommended are better, especially so given the faster encoding.

IMovie: exporting to Google Video/mp3 issue

I would like to export an iMovie project to a format that Google Video accepts. Google Video prefers mpeg 4 video with mp3 audio. iMovie "expert settings" allows mpeg 4 export, but the only audio options for this are AAC or "none". Does anyone know how I can either:
- Add some type of plugin or installable codec that enables mp3 audio with mpeg 4 video as an iMovie export option?
- What software to use to convert from another iMovie export format to mpeg4/mp3?
I currently own Toast 6 and standard Quicktime.
Any advice much appreciated!

"MPeg Streamclip" is a free download. Get it and install it in your applications folder. It is a totally great application for doing all kinds of conversions. Export your iMovie project to Quicktime format. Then fire up MPeg Streamclip and drag your quicktime movie to the pane and drop it. Go to 'File' drag to 'Export to MP4' and another screen will open up. Choose "iPod" this setting works great for the Google videos. Trust the settings chosen by Streamclip. It may take a while to convert, but when finished, you wil be able to upload to the Google video upload page. You may want to do this before going to bed. It wil be ready when you get up! I have 4 videos on the Google site. I did all four by using "MPeg Streamclip" My latest upload is "Feather Falls 2006" Check it out and good luck

Google Video Chat and 10.6 Compatibility Issues

Gmail says "Google Voice and Video chat has some known compatibility problems with the newly released Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard. For many users, the display of video is broken, showing only your Gmail avatar image."
Is there a way to deal with this? I am, indeed, not able to see myself in the video display. How do I use Google Video Chat if I have 10.6+ Snow Leopard?

Same thing for me since upgrading to Mavericks - I used to be able to make phone calls through my Gmail account on Safari but since upgrading to Mavericks the plugin is installed but not recognized. It works fine when I run Firefox. Annoying. I may eventually stop using Safari as my primary browser.

Isight not recognized by Skype, Google Video Chat, Logitech VID and ichat.

Here is my story. I will try and make it as brief as possible.
The other day, I put a rented DVD into my dvd drive, and it didn't load. I checked for updates for Mac or quicktime. Nothing available. I did some googlin, and someone suggested I zap pram, repair permissions. I blindly obeyed. That didn't help. Then I messed around with quicktime. Not sure what I did. Finally, I had to download the latest version of VLC to watch my movie. I have no idea of my problems with QT have anything to do with my isight issues with Skype and the like, but I mentioned it just in case.
The next morning, when I went to skype, my video wasn't sending. I'm not sure if my chat partners video was working, we usually only do it one way. Me sending.
I checked to see if my video was working in photobooth. Indeed it was (and still does).
I have to date:
Downloaded the latest version of QT (7.6.9 for Leopard)- the web plug-in for watching QT online is installed and running properly.
After install, the QT player does not show up in applications, or anywhere else on the hard drive.
I Messed around with QT in ways I can't describe. Trying to install older versions, removing who knows what files. Installing again.
zapped PRAM
Cleared preferences for Skype by removing skype plist
download latest version skype
deleted all skype files I could find
reinstall Skype
repaired permissions (FIRST THING I DID)
Put your Mac to sleep
Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.

NOTE: Google Video Chat does show the isight cam, but a black screen. Logitech just has a black screen and asks "where in the interweb is your cam buddy?
I have searched and failed to find CamCamX5.component
Tested video in Google Chat and Logitech VID chat. built-in isight not recognized
Tested video in iChat - I chat crashed when opening. (i posted the crash report at the end of this post)
I'm sure I'm missing some.......

We will come back to iChat if required.
It does prefer an Screen Name to be added as you go through the Start Up Screens (First Run) but you can click through these and just access the iChat > Preferences > Video Section to view a Preview.
I must admit to not seeing a Crash Log when the known chosen Mic/Audio Input has not been listed.
However if the External Audio was Firewire connected that may explain things.
NOTE:-
mAudio and other Firewire Audio Devices do tend to need the Most up-to-date drivers to work properly.
Sometimes it pays not to do a COMBO or other Software Update until you know the drivers are ready for it.
With any OS update above the 10.x.1 point will also have a COMBO version.
The COMBO then includes all the updated items between the base level OS and the latest Update.
So for 10.6 there is only what is called a Delta for 10.6.1
There is a delta (10.6.1 to 10.6.2 only) and a COMBO (10.6 to 10.6.2) for the next update and this is repeated through 10.6.6
The Deltas only include those things that are Updated on that occasion (As in the 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 example - 10.6.5 to 10.6.6 would not include the stuff in 10.6.4 or earlier)
COMBOs can be installed "Over-the-Top" of what you have already installed.
It is certainly needed when you Re-install something (Apple apps/Files etc) from the Install Disk you have when your OS has been updated beyond that point.
Some apps like iChat Get their Updates in the OS Updates and need to "Match" the progression.

The Download and Install should be all the parts of Quicktime.
Internet Plug-ins for Browsers, various System Files to make Quicktime work for other apps, various Components to play various formats and of course the Player itself.
The Player should be in the Applications Folder with this icon:-
The OS 10.6 version (Quicktime X has a big blue X icon)
If you mean it has disappeared from the DOCK you can Drag the Application back to the DOCK to make the icon (and link to app) again (The app stays in the Applications folder the OS just makes an icon and links it for you by doing this)
One of the biggest causes of many apps not working is turning Off/Disabling certain Fonts the apps need.
Follow the Link in this Users Tip by Kurt Lang. Make sure that the Correct System Fonts are ON.

Ever since I updated my Flash I can not get Video when trying to use Google Video Chat using Safari, it works using Crome. Does anyone know how to fix it in Safari?

We're aware of an issue where you're not able to view your own video, the other person, or both if you're using Safari or Firefox on Mac OS X with 64 bit flash 11.0 or higher. As a workaround, enable the "Video chat enhancements" lab in Gmail or select 'enable high resolution video' in your Chat settings in iGoogle or Google+.

Currently my choice is "Quicktime, LAN, Deinterlace" on Google Video. Only thing I don't like is doubling of image for fast moving part, which somehow disappears if I reduce the size to 320x200, but then it is too blurry when displayed in full screen.
None is usable on YouTube. They look horrible, but there are much better quality videos on YouTube.
Since there are so many knobs to play around on each option, I'm at loss what to play around with. I did quick things like increasing the size to 720x480 or increasing the frame rate, but surprisingly, none seems to make any difference when filtered through their encoder.
I like to solicit suggestions on what option to try. I'll export the same video with that options, upload it to both sites and we can take a look.

Hi — I also found you via Slashdot. You've gone to a good amount of effort to solve this scientifically.
I'm just here to say: Face it, you need to go past the built-in options. Here's what you need to know:
1. YouTube is 320x240 (or 320 by anything lower, for widescreen). You must scale to that.
2. YouTube is 30fps maximum, so if you already have that, set that. If you have 25 or 24, use that. If you have 50, it looks better with 25 (I've tried).
3. The interlacing choice is purely up to your original video. Does it have 480 lines or 576 lines? And if so, does it have fluid "live camera" motion, unlike film? If your answer is yes to both, then you have interlacing. Since YouTube doesn't do interlacing, you need to remove it.
4. Both YouTube and Google Video have a problem with the (seemingly open, standard) MP4 format. We think it's because of the VLC software they used. Anyway, use a QuickTime MOV file for the wrapping container, so export to QuickTime Movie (not MPEG-4). But use the H.264 codec. It's good.
OK, that's it. It's your pretty complete, simple guide to making good YouTube videos.
Don't forget to use a tripod and external microphones, and lay off using the zoom too much. That's my other advice, for earlier in the process. Now you've learnt everything technical The rest is only down to viral marketing and you can learn all that by example out on YouTube.

Export .mov files compatible for Google Video

I upgraded to QTpro so I could post my imovies to the new Google Video in the mp4 format. No problem, except GV wants the audio as an mp3 file. iTunes uses it, why not QT? Did I waste my money? How can I do this, export as an mp4 video, with mp3 audio?

I just looked at the new Google Video upload and specifications.
It seems they'll take almost any video formats (even .mov and .wmv).
I don't think they know much about MPEG-4 formats or what an .mp3 file really is.
The .mp3 "format" is really part of the old MPEG-1 specs (MPEG-1 Layer 3).
A properly encoded .mp4 file would not use such an ancient audio setting.
They are also asking for video uploads in the MPEG-2 format. Most computers don't have the needed software to even play these files.
I think Google should edit their pages and clear up this confusion.
You should upload your .mp4 file because at least it conforms to industry standards.

Links to Google Video Fail

Hello,
I recently upgraded to iWeb'08 and I use it to create a blog that links to videos posted to Google Video. When I enter the link in iWeb, it appears correct:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1699324761799236248&hl=en
However, when the site is published (just to my local machine, so no issues with FTP substituting character sets), the link becomes
http://video.google.com/videoplay%253Fdocid%253D1699324761799236248%2526hl%253De n
and this link does not work in Safari.
Is there a way to force iWeb to not replace '?' and the '=' in the original URL?
Since Google provides the URLs to the videos, I can't easily change them, and I would prefer not to have to hand edit the .xml files.
Any solutions or suggestions are appreciated.

Try to redo the default browser setting and temporarily set another browser as the default browser.

How to upload slo-no videos to any cloud storage apps?

Dear friends,
i ve have many slo-mo videos on my iPhone. And, when I tried to upload it to my personal cloud storage app(Google drive, one drive, flikcr) it just got uploaded as a normal video. I've lost the slo-mo in it.
It would be really helpful if anybody here help me to upload slo-mo videos as it is!

What did you use to convert them?
In the Video's Pane make sure that the movies you want to sync are selected to be synched over.

Google video crashes safari

When I visit google video, safari crashes when viewing a new video or performing a search. I get the option to report bug to apple.
This is a new problem that apperaed suddenly with no recent upgrades.
This is in 10.3.9 on G5 tower. Safari 1.3.1, QT v6.4
I have tried many remedies with no success.
repaired permissions
logged in as another user
trash home>prefs>safari.plist
trash home>lib>safari>icons
Reset safari
empty cache in safari
trash cache by hand
restart
I cannot figure it out unless it involves quicktime. Firefox works fine.

Is this a font issue?
I had reset my Safari font to Arial and added Arial to the HD>Lib>Fonts folder but recently started using Linotype Font Explorer which has moved some things around.
I did reset Safari though and it has been using the deault fonts of Times and Courier and still crashes every time at video.google.com

Imovie to Google video?

Hi--
I created a movie of my little girl with imovie 3.0.3 and would like to post it to Google Video. I am totally new at this so I'm probably missing something obvious. I exported it to the highest quality possible. But Google's status report says "Your video could not be verified" and refers me to their technical specs, which are:
Google Video is now accepting the following video and audio specs:
MPEG4 with MP3 audio
MPEG4 with MP4 audio
MPEG2 with MP3 audio
MPEG2 with MP4 audio
The video must contain recognizable video content (video container files that do not contain video will not be accepted).
The frame rate should be above 12 frames per second.
The video metadata must be accurate and relevant to the content you upload (no spam).
The video must be at least 10 seconds long.
I am not sure where to go from here. Any advice would be truly appreciated!

There's a good deal of technical magic with video. I see that iMovie can Export (using Expert Settings) in MPEG-4 format, and you have additional options for bit rate, etc. Unless you can find someone with experience who responds to this post, you may have to do some trial and error with those settings.

Google Video Player No Audio With Audigy4 or Audi

After downloading (free) Google Video's?to my hard dri've I have watched them many times now and listened to them problem free with on board audio. However; I have now installed Audigy4 and Audigy2 in seperate computers and?both now have NO audio while attempting to use the Google Video Player. Yes, the volume is turned all the way up on the Google player and Yes? I have checked all audio levels on the Surround Mixer and nothing is MUTED.Please, can someone help as I use the Google Video Player daily. One last note is that I had a brief message only one time stating that the audio stream was NOT recognized!!! All my other audio needs, MP3, Wave, DVD Player, CDA are all working (audio) just fine. Thank You taranaki and a very Special Thank You to The Google Team?I contacted Creative Labs Tech Support and they promptly stated, "We do NOT support the Google Video Player's audio stream (GVI) and offer NO assistance accordingly"...WoW, and NOT cool at all. Plan #2?I contacted Google and within one day, yes one day, Google got back to me and said they would be glad to help resolve this issue and had The Google Team get an Audigy4 sound card. I was again contacted by The Google Team with the fix (TURN OFF EVERTYHING IN EAX). Problem solved and no help from Creative Labs Tech Support either!!! I was very disappointed as I am PRO Creative Labs and have (7) of their sound cards. Lastly, Thank You again taranaki , Creative Forums, and The Google Team for all your help.

Google Videos Won't load on Safari

Been noticing a funny quirk on Google video. When I try to access any video on Google, Safari shows a blank page says 'loading' and never finishes. If I reset Safari and try, the video will play, but in a much smaller video screen than normal and the rest of the screen is blank. Thought maybe it was just something on Safarai for Tiger 4.10, but my G4 at work does the same thing with Safari. Works fine in Firefox. Anybody experiencing this problem?
I've done permissions repairs....tried looking at plugins for updates and the rest. There are no issues with firewalls either.

I noticed that same thing with YouTube as well. It plays for a few seconds and then stops like it is still loading the video. If you click on the scrubber the video will play for a few seconds and stop again. My nephew pointed it out to me first when he couldn't watch any skateboarding video from YouTube. This occurred after updating Safari from the last two recent updates. Apple needs to do some more work on this recent Safari quickly.
