Uploading to my own domain namep

Would someone be willing to give me step by step instructions for publishing a site from my iWeb(not all sites, just one--I have 3 sites in my iWeb as of now) to my newly purchased godaddy domain name?
I know my way around iWeb but am a complete idiot when it comes to domains, etc.
To clarify:
I have 3 sites within my iWeb
1. My own blog that tons of people have in their favorites, and is quite extensive
2. A nonprofit site whose address is already on numerous flyers, etc.
Both us these I just hit publish and use the dotmac/mobileme address.
3. Just started a business whose pages I have not worked extensively on, but is connected to my
dotmac/mobile me address and I want to always publish this one to my new godaddy domain
name. (I haven't published these pages yet all, they're still red in my iWeb menu.
In your response maybe you could tell me if I should start over from scratch with the No. 3 site to make things easier when publishing. If so I need to know how to do that, as well.
I hope this makes some sort of sense. Please help if you can.

JuleeAnnW:
You want to have your 3rd site, the business site, separate from your other two and be connected to the domain name you purchased from GoDaddy, right?
What I would do is separate the blog site, the non profit site and business site from each other. I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
After you've separated the files and have each in their own domain file you should republish them. I'd publish the blog first then the non profit and lastly the business.
When you publish the blog site it will delete the other two so that's why you'll need to republish each. You may have to republished a second time .
*NOTE: As mentioned earlier make sure you have a backup copy of your original domain file containing all 3 sites just in case.*
Once you get them separated and published use iWebSites to open the site you want to edit and work on. I now have over 45 individual sites (each site is a separate page of my overall primary family site).

how do i use my own domain name with creative cloud?
i don't want to post web pages from behance.net. i want to use the domain name i have for my material. is there a hosting service for this? if not, can someone give me some pointers so I can publish?

http://forums.adobe.com/community/behance is where you would ask about publishing to "something else" from that program
I use OLD Dreamweaver, and upload my HTML with an FTP program to my own web site... I will GUESS you can do that, if you can save HTML to your hard drive to then be able to upload to your web site

  • How do I go about hosting an iWeb site on my own domain?

I have never "posted" or tried to post anywhere on Web before. Forgive me if I don't follow a protocol that I should.
I just published an update of a site. The original site I can't change by myself. I made the new one on iweb thinking it would go to www.capellidanglifoundation.org - instead it is found at this unwieldy place: http://web.mac.com/marciareidmarsted/CapellidAngeli_FoundationSite/Welcome.html -
I did make a Netscape site in 2001 which is now at http://www.aboutmyhair.net, but someone else did the uploading for me.
how do I post to my own domain?
I have made another updated site. It is ready to upload to www.marciareidmarsted.com - and I don't want it to go to another long address.
I thought they had fixed it at the apple store at West Farms Mall, but I guess not.
Thanks for any help you can give - I did see someone with the same problem, so it is probably not that unusual.

  • Iweb 09 and posting to your own domain name -- how does it work?

    Dear Apple geniuses,
What I always hated about iWeb was the long web address -- I am thinking about buying 09 and a domain name so I can have a simple address. (I am on iLife 07 now) But I am not exactly sure how it works can you help me!
Question 1. Once I get the domain name for example, www.christine.com, and post my iwebsite to it will people be see it just by typing in www.christine.com? (I won't have to add anything else to the address).
Question 2. Can you suggest a domain registar that works well with iWeb (I read something about needing one that will allow a setting for CNAME).
Question 3. Will this website come up in google searches?
Question 4. I plan to use the widget to have youtube video on my website because I want the video to play quickly so people don't have to wait for it to load-- will all of that work if I post to my own domain?
Thanks and sorry for my computer stupidity!

    1. No, you don't have to add anything to the address and people should be able to get to your site by either typing in http://yourdomain.com or http://www.yourdomain.com.
    2. GoDaddy are very good and I have a domain name registered with them. Also, Network Solutions too. You only need a registrar/host that provides CNAME forwarding if you are intending to purchase a MobileMe account and publish your site to MME. However, you do not need to do this to be able to use iWeb. You can purchase your domain name, plus a Linux hosting option from GoDaddy and you can then upload your site directly to your hosting space using a dedicated ftp program such as Cyberduck.
    3. Your site will come up in Google Searches yes, but you need to notify them that your site exists first.
    4. Posting YouTube on your site will work if you publish to MobileMe and upload directly to your server. If you want quick loading, however, I would suggest that you upload directly to your server as at times MobileMe is notoriously slow. I upload directly, as I have business site and I wanted faster loading speeds that MME could not give me.
Your version of iLife will be 06 and not 07 - as far as I am aware that does not exist, it went 06, 08 and now 09.

  • Images not showing on my own domain.

    Hi,
I have started building a site with Muse for the first time. I have only made a very simple page to learn and test with. I have noticed that whenever I upload the site to my own domain (www.dalegoodridge.com), that I cant see the images. I have uploaded the files through Muse, I have also tried uploading them from the 'HTML Export' function, then ftp'ing them as they are, but the images don't work.
I have uploaded the page to my business catalyst page ( http://dalegoodridge.businesscatalyst.com ), the thumbnails on the lightbox and the photo in the top right corner work fine with your hosting, but not on my own domain.
I upload to the 'public_html' folder on my own domain. I think there is something I am not doing right with the settings to upload but I'm unsure of what I am doing wrong. I also notice that I can click on the lightbox images that are not there and see the images in the lightbox just fine.
Does anyone know how I can solve this?

Ahhhh, It works now. I was thinking that maybe it was the file permissions of my public_html folder. I changed all to 755 but thought it still wasn't working until I checked it now after your reply.
    Thanks for letting me know!

  • Have upgraded to monthly subscription, but can't load Muse files to my own domain

When I tried to load the Muse files for my website, developed during the trial period, to my own domain, I discovered that wasn't an option.
I have upgraded from trial sub to month-to-month sub.  The "Trial period ends in (x) days" no longer appears at Muse start.  But when I try to publish, I'm still limited to .businesscatalyst.com
I haven't found an option yet to publish to a regular, non-"businesscatalyst.com" domain.
Do I need to uninstall my Muse software and re-download it?  Do my existing .muse files remain intact?
    thanks....

    Hello,
Using File>Publish option it only allow you to publish the website on Business Catalyst.
If you are looking to publish/upload your website on a non-Business Catalyst host the you have two options :
Either use File>Upload to FTP host option and use the FTP credentials for your host and then click on OK to upload it to your host server.
Or you can use File>Export to HTML option where you can save the output files on your desktop in a folder and then upload them using some third party FTP client like Filezilla etc.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Sachin

  • Can I use iWeb for my own domain without .mac

I want to use iWeb for creating a simple website. But how can I upload this website to my own domain? Do I need another program. I myself use Dreamweaver. Can I copy the website made in iWeb to dreamweaver? Or... Who can help me out!!!!
    margriet

You publish to a folder and use an ftp program like Cyberduck, Fetch, or Transmit to upload. I recommend you not use Dreamweaver. Some tips:

  • RSS Feeds and own domain -- sorry but this is kind of a long question

I've been reading the very useful advice on RSS feeds and how they work with your own domain name.
I am trying to update my blog to my hosted site and I can't get it to follow the RSS path so that the subscription link works. (I am getting a file not found error message.)
I updated and published the site on .mac, where it is fine. <http://web.mac.com/lisajacobs/iWeb/Immigra/Blog/Blog.html>
Then I published the site again to the same folder I used when I put the site up this morning. Since I only wanted to change the blog pages and not the entire site, I ftp'ed up the Blog folder to my own domain site <http://www.immigra.com/Blog/Blog.html>
The published web folder on my desktop has in it folders along the lines of Extraordinary_files and Extraordinary.html and so forth for the different pages of the site. However, there is no corresponding Blog.html file.
I am thinking that this missing file may be the cause of the RSS problem -- but where is it? Why didn't iWeb make it for my folder? (I have an old Blog.html file on my site but it is clearly from the last iteration of the blog, as the latest blog entry is not there.)
Or is there a different cause of the problem that I am not diagnosing? I am reluctant to ftp the entire site up every time I change the blog for two reasons 1) I made an edit to the html code on the welcome page (so that links would open a different page) and 2) it takes a really long time to upload the whole thing, which makes it a pain to have quick blog updates.\

    However, when I uploaded
only the blog folder and its contents, it did not
    appear on my site.
I see the last entry as May 10, so that's the old one right?
My guess would be that you did not actually upload the new blog folder. Depending on how you have things organized, you may still have your old one there somewhere, and you may have selected it by mistake with your ftp program.
I would double-check the Blog folder on your drive to make sure it has been updated, and that this is the folder you have tried to upload.
Does publishing to the folder in itself change the
entire structure so that the whole site has to be
    FTP'ed up again?
    No.

  • .Mac account and own domain

    Hi,
I own a .Mac account where I have published my personal web site created in iWeb. Now, I'm creating a web site for an alumni club also in iWeb. The club has its own domain.
Can I publish the web site for the club in its domain and still keeping my .Mac account and personal web site as it is? Two different domains, two sites and one computer!
    Thanks

The easiest way to do this is to build your new site on a separate domain file, publish it to a folder and upload it to the server using FTP.
Multiple websites on multiple domain files can be achieved by having them in separate folders or using a third party software like iWebsites.
    See ..
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebMultiplewebsites.html
Note that this page recommends the standard method for splitting domain files or the use of a third party application.
As you are starting fresh I would recommend you start each new site from a copy of a blank domain file and save it in a separate folder. Splitting domain files should be avoided if possible as it can lead to file corruption in some cases and may cause problems in the future.

  • How do I use my own domain name  with Mac server with iWeb

For a number of years I have had my own domain name that when typed into a browser it would redirect the browser to my site on the .Mac server. I hear with iLife ’08 I can have my own domain name hosted by .Mac so I know longer have to have the long addresses for each pages the I have now for my site (i.e. the http://web.mac.com/thewildhearts/WildheartPhotography/NatureGalleries.html). How do I go about getting my domain name (wildheartphotography.com) so that Mac will host it and do I need to notify the current host that Mac will be hosting my site now?
Thanks. I really appreciate the help I get from this forum.
    Pat

It's very easy, really. You go to your domain control and redirect the address. IPower, for example points the domain name very easily: you just type in the URL of your site and it will point to your mac server.
I've used GoDaddy before and it is a bit more difficult to "point".

  • Own domain email no longer working

    Hi there,
I have a Blackberry Torch on Vodafone UK which I've been using for several months very happily. I had set up two email addresses - a hotmail.com account and an email account with my own domain name ([email protected]). Up until this morning they were working just fine.
This morning I noticed that a lot of emails were coming into Outlook on my PC but not coming to my handset. I sent test messages from my handset and they never arrived in Outlook. So I resent the service books, got the usual "set up successful" message, but still nothing. I did a hard reset, but no change.
I logged in to Vodafone's BIS site and removed the mydomain email account, as in the past when I have had problems removing it and re-adding it seemed to fix it. However, now I can't put it back on! Even when I add the additional data via the website I get the following message:
An error occurred during email account validation. Please check your information and try again.
I tried the same process via the handset and get a similar error message:
Invalid email address or password. Verify your email address and password. If the error persists, contact namesurname.co.uk (i.e. my domain)
Now, I know that the password is correct as I am using the same one to log into my webmail and to get emails in Outlook. I have checked the email server in cPanel for my domain. So as far as I'm concerned all of the info is correct.
What else can I try? I've set up a forwarder for my domain mail to a newly created vodafone mail account in the meantime, but it's not ideal as this doesn't have the "delete on mailbox and handheld" option. Unfortunately I've tried calling Vodafone twice - the first person I spoke to said he would ring me back in under two hours, and that was five hours ago. The second person was far from helpful. Please help, this is very frustrating!
(Update: I have also changed the password for my email account to ensure that it is DEFINITELY the right one, and deleted almost all the messages from the inbox (there were some over 8MB which may have been causing the problem). I have also completely deleted my BIS account and started again from scratch. Still no joy.)
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
    Just a quick update.
Spoke to my hosting company and they checked all the info I was putting in and found it to be correct and can't understand why it isn't working.  They suggested I contacted my phone carrier.
Spoke to Orange and they were really helpful and tried to set it up from their end but got the same error messages.  They can't see anything wrong from their point of view and can't understand why it isn't working.  They suggested I contact the hosting company again, which I have.
    Not heard from Blackberry.
Have you got any further with it?

  • Can't seem to get my own domain name to work

First of all I'm sure this has been asked a lot so apologies if it's a repetitive post I'm just at the hair pulling stage!
Well. I've had no issues joining mobile me (joined a week ago) and publishing my site from iWeb.
But then I wanted to get my own domain name.
(i got it from 123-reg.co.uk just in case that is is anyway significant.)
This is where my question becomes a bit "Balloon" shaped.
When setting my CName on 123-reg I was asked to enter info into two boxes. (That seemed to tally with the help files I have read.)
I entered web.me.com into the first box and my domain name into the second. I'll just call it for now www.mywebsite.co.uk
Then it asked me to enter my website IP which I located by using one of those pages you can type a domain into and it searches...
Sorry if this is dumb but does that sound about right?
    Some questions-
-Is it correct to put www.mywebsite.co.uk as well as web.me.com or should it be something else?
-Would there be any mobile-me issues while I'm still on the free trial?
-Are some domain name providers incompatible with mobile-me?
-And if I change the CName with the registrar should I delete and reconfigure myown domain in my mobile me-account?
If anyone could enlighten me they would basically be my new hero!
    Thanks.

    Oh one more thing..
When asked for the IP of your website does that mean the IP of your own website or the host (being Mobileme of course? i.e. the IP of www.web.me.com/mywebsitetemporaryname or me.com?

  • We love apple email, but it does not play wall with other venders when you want to use your own domain (lags, disconnections, etc.)?   What vendor should we use to make it push and work well?  We want to stay with Apple Mail.

Help, our AppleMail does not play well with other Vendord to use our own domain.   iCloud mail works great, but so far others we have tried lag, disconnec, etc. not nearly as good as icloud mail.   Should we try exchange or office 365 plans with Apple Mail/  a lot more expensive?

Microsoft Exchange is the best business solution, Office 365 will give a hosted version that works well, as you noted it is not the cheapest. You should also look at Zimbra, an excellent service.

I cant find good on-line instructions. Can anyone please help? I need to get this sit live ASAP for promotion campaign.

    Hi
You would need to delete the domain from existing site and then add to your BC site.

  • How to publish custom web site with own domain name?

Hey out there. I wonder if anyone can give me any tips on how to publish a web site with my own domain name.
I have a web site I'm building and I want to purchase a domain name and then publish the site using that domain name.
I know how to buy a domain name. I have a .mac account so I'm hoping that .mac can host the site. What I don't quite understand how to do is get .mac to host the site using that domain name. I looked through Apple Support but couldn't find what I was looking for. Just wondering if anyone has been in this situation. Thanks in advance.
    Dave
    [email protected]

Dave ~ Welcome to the discussions. .Mac was re-branded as MobileMe last July. If you're not building your site with iWeb, it's considered to be a "custom" website. These Apple docs may help:
MobileMe: How to publish a custom website
iWeb ’08: Using your own domain name
...Use this search page to find such documents:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=search
Note that you don't need to have iLife '08 to be able to direct your domain name to your custom website published to MobileMe. As someone wrote on another thread:
"My personal domain is linked to my MM but i don't even have ilife on my mac. When you go to the options in MM to link your personal domain to your MM it provides directions that will guide you with setting up your godaddy settings."
    ...Where "MM" is MobileMe here:
    http://me.com/account
...+Personal Domain+ tab, and "godaddy" is wherever your domain name is registered.
