Uploading to the web

hello all
first of all, i have no knowledge at all about uploading
anything onto the web.
i'm a designer, and i have my portfolio on cd created in
director, but i really need to get it onto the web. i was wondering
if someone could tell me if it's possible to have a director run
application as a website? usually i see flash based websites, but
is it possible to have director websites?
i think it would be using shockwave? i don't know how to
export it in that format .. or if a shockwave websites would even
work on most browesers, because for flash websites the viewer
requires flash player and more people are familiar with the flash
player than the shockwave player ...
thanks!

No :(
If you want to use your director project in a webpage it has
to be shockwave. You'd have to use all of your source graphics etc
and start from scratch with web pages to make it into a website.
You could export your director project as an exe with all of
the xtras included, then zip it and upload that to the web... the
user could download at their end and then play. But they would nto
be able to view it in their browser. Also, a zipped exe with loads
of extras included would be slow loading, probably be a big
filesize and would not be cross-platform.
...if you really can't re-make the portfolio, try posting
them an autorun CD to whoever needs to see it.

  • Site works in preview but not when uploaded to the web

I have been trying to add a link from my website to another project I have been doing, a mini site made with Flash.
I wanted the link to open up a new window with the animation playing inside, and it works perfectly when I use "preview in safari" within dreamweaver, but now I've uploaded to the web it just opens up a blank window.
This is the url for the homepage:
    http://kayleighthompson.com/
and the link is the ActiveAid button at the bottom of the navigation list.
If anyone knows how to get this working I'd be very grateful! It's for a uni project due in this afternoon :S

I think you may be having a problem with how Flash is displayed. The Flash on the first page doesn't display in IE8... although it does in Chrome. The second page doesn't display in either. Your link is correct. I checked that.
Wish I could be more helpful, I'm having the same issue with IE and DW CS4 myself, and can't figure it out.
    This may help: http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/wiki/documentation
Good luck! Let me know if you figure it out.

  • Images when uploaded to the web the colors shift

I have been having a problem lately with my images displaying funky when they are uploaded to the web. The images become over saturated. The color space is sRGB so I am not sure what is going on. I never have had this problem till this year. I use lightroom, then export the image and finish editing the image in photoshop. When I export from Lightroom I pick srgb color space.

People say so because by default the system assigns sRGB color space for the monitor profile. This in effect turns off the color management of the display in color managed programs when images are displayed with sRGB profiles. Then this makes the display of sRGB images in the color managed programs match the non-color managed programs. This also makes people wrongly believe that non-color managed programs are using the sRGB color space while in fact it is the color space of their monitors because non-color managed program have no clue about any color spaces. Monitors may differ a lot from each other while the sRGB color space like any other color space has very specific colors.
It is a very simple test, View > Proof Setup > Monitor RGB. This turns the color management of the image display off. Does this match the sRGB images? The answer will be yes if the system is using sRGB color space profile for the monitor regardless of how good or bad the monitor calibration is.  If it does match and if the monitor profile was created with a calibrator then this is like hitting the jackpot which as far as I know no one has claimed so far. Yes, on theory it is possible but on practice  it doesn't happen easily and that was the main reason the color management was invented (physical devices like monitors can't  match device independent color spaces). Everyone with a custom monitor profile made using a calibrator will detect a difference between images displayed with Monitor RGB and sRGB on any kind of monitors - not only wide gamut but standard too. This means it is typical to see difference between color managed programs and non-color managed programs on properly calibrated monitors.

  • Exporting files that aren't too big to be able to upload to the web

I just got a new iMac and want to buy Final Cut Studio 2 for Final Cut Pro 6. My only concern is everytime i've used FCP, the files are always very huge. In the GB range. thats fine when im putting that stuff on a dvd, but now I need to upload those things to the web.
Is there a way to export projects so they are a manageable size? I know quality will get lost but I want to know if I can export files that I will be able to upload and have people view before I spend a good amount of $$ buying it. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I like my way the best... but only because I like my way the best.
First, understand that what you are dealing with is an art... compression.
BUT thankfully Apple sees that my way is the best TOO and gave it to you as a simple option in the export path. (wink)
    SO...
File - Export - QT Conversion.
    Then,
    FORMAT: QuickTime Movie
    USE: Broadband HIGH
Then, hit the OPTIONS button and then SIZE. If your sequence is 16:9 change the size to 420x270. If not, leave alone.
    Hit done and export.
Should come in around 5 megs a minute and look great!
    Good luck,

  • Uploading to the web and I can't see the photos in iPhoto

I have events in my iPhoto up until a couple of weeks ago. When I go to upload to snapfish, the most recent imports don't show up.
    How can I fix this?

first I go to snapfish and select the album i want to upload to, then through snapfish it pops up the upload screen to choose the pictures. I'm looking under the media section, under pictures. I have pictures in there, just none of the recent stuff I uploaded to iPhoto.
I had the same problem a few weeks ago and I searched the web for answers. I found some sort of disk utility thing to do and that works. Now, I can't remember where I found that info or what to do.

  • Why do the colors in my RGB image change when uploading to the web?

I'm editing my image within Photoshop & have worked with it being RGB from the very start. I place the saved image in Dropbox so I can access it from my phone to place on all my social media accounts. Once I got  to upload the image on the web to my social accounts the colors completely change becoming dull & drab, it looks nothing like the image I saved. Been racking my brain on how to fix this but haven't had a solution that worked yet. Suggestions?

    Hi Danippo13,
check out this video which explains very well the difference between different color profiles Visualizing Color Profiles on Vimeo and remember that the web uses "standard RGB - 72 dpi".
I will recommend this setting  in Edit Menu> Color Settings

  • Edit in PS, upload to the web. Colors changed??

So I have an issue that I don't understand . It's probably something that I should know about but will ask .
So I edited my picture in LR then I choose > Edit in Photoshop.
All well. PS opens and I edit in PS. Then I save my image on my PC as a JPG.
Then I want to upload it to a site certain site. And once the photo is uploaded the colors are all different.  Not sligtly but let's say I selected Old Polar as a preset . It will be like that in PS but on the web it looks like for example blue became closer to dark grey . Or other colors changed.
When I edit first in LR . Save it to my computer . Then open it in PS it works fine. But I don't want to do that .
What am I doing wrong ??
    Thanks for the help.

Also check those Edit In preferences for color space. While in Photohsop check your color settings too*. Once there, if Edit In isn't providing sRGB, you can use the Convert to Profile command and select sRGB or use Save for Web. There are good reasons not to set the Edit In preferences for sRGB.

  • Color management and images uploaded to the web

    Hi,
I use Photoshop on both a mac pro (OS 10.5) and a PC (Vista) and when I upload photos to the web, the images processed on my PC look just fine, but the images I process on my Mac look washed out and pale on the web. The funny thing is the Mac images look GREAT on the Mac, but washed out on the PC. Is there some color profile or calibration that I need to be doing? Please help!

can I re-open/expand this one? I don't think it is quite this simple
at present I perform a similar manual operation having set up a series of calibrations using the system prefs>displays>colour in different light and including gamma 2.2 version
I use Nikon Capture NX2 for my photographic editing, but as you may not be familiar with it, it is serious software (dare I say here orders-of-magnitude better and more extensive than Aperture) and works on RAW (nef) files. I post on a number of equally serious web photo-forums posting at near professional level. There is a constant trickle of EITHER complaints about 'too dark' from PC users OR about colour, but am not concerned with that here.
I tried out the suggestion of working at gamma 2.2 myself and found I had to adjust a good image by +0.67 EV to get back to normal. That is unacceptable and hate to think how results would print.
So 10.6 is about to go to gamma 2.2 as normal, but what effect will that have on previous work done with 1.8, ie will the system correct everything by itself (or do we need to reach heaven first)?
The more immediate effect of 10.6 will be that Nikon and others will probably take another 6 months to make their software compatible

  • How to save a Pages document to upload to the web

I have created a document in Pages '08.  It was designed for print (11" x 17") and 2 pages long.  I saved it both as a pdf and as a png file but the file size is too large to put on our website (maximum 10 mb).  How can I save this file with a reduced file size to upload to our web page?

I am looking in Pages '09, it is possible that is somewhere else in Pages '08 or was only introduced in Pages '09. Look through all of your Menus and in your Pages '08 User Guide.
If it is not there, follow through the other advice which is crop and reduce your images to 72 dpi resolution, preferably as .jpegs, or replace where possible with .pdf vectors both of which form smaller graphics files.
The best solution would be to reconstruct your document asa proper web page so the parts load individually or make a link to the larger .pdf file for people to download.

  • Photos do not look the same after being uploaded to the web

    Hey,
I have a problem with photos not looking the same as they do in LR when I upload them to the web.
Is there a fix for this?

    >I now sometimes incorporate an "extra boost of saturation" in the
work flow in anticipation of the loss of saturation when I take the save for web option in CS.
    >It is a bit arbitrary ... what is the view of the pros / experts on
    this remedy?
This is a bad idea. The loss of saturation you see is only there on YOUR specific screen. It will not happen on other people's screens, except when they have a similar screen and graphic card as you. Other people might see much higher saturation on their screens. The point behind sRGB is that it provides an average target for the screen manufacturers. Screens cluster around it and so it is a REALLY bad idea to try to compensate for the problem in your specific screen. What you should do is refuse to use non-color managed webbrowsers as they will always lie to you. This means you have to use Firefox with the secret setting (see above) or Safari. If you use sRGB and a color-managed browser you will see what the average person sees. If you use sRGB and a color-dumb browser (i.e. IE) you will only see what you see.
P.S. I am assuming you hardware calibrate your screen. This is essential. Even when calibrated, colors will only be right in color-managed apps.

  • Image galleries not showing when site is uploaded to the web.

My site currently works fine. However, when I add a new set of photos to the image gallery and republish my site to the web the "work" page doesn't load anything at all.
As soon as I delete the new images set, and republish the site to the web, it works fine again.
I will add a new set of images now so that the site goes blank and people will understand.

  • Missing events when i try to upload to the web

I just uploaded 2 events to iphoto 09, they are in iphoto and i can send the photos to facebook, but only through iPhoto. when i try to find the events to upload them to snapfish or even to just add them to an e-mail they are no where to be found. how can i fix this problem, the events and photos are n my computer but i cannot upload them because when i search for them they do not appear....

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Replacement for adobe flash when uploading to the web

Since adobe is fazing out flash, will they be replacing it with something that will make it difficult for clients to download images? Flash makes it harder for clients to download proofs that we upload to our websites from lightroom, and I'm hoping that what ever replaces it will have the same ability.  I don't know enough about HTML5 to know if it has that ability.

Here's the latest on Flash http://blogs.adobe.com/flashplayer/2012/06/flash-player-and-android-update.html and the previous one http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/2011/11/flash-focus.html
Short version - Flash for desktop is not dead, and there are still a lot of things that HTML5 can't do yet, so it won't be disappearing anytime soon.  They have retired Flash for mobile devices though, so they can focus more on developing and improving HTML5, which is more universally supported on mobile devices.

  • Image Blurs When Uploaded to the Web

Hi there. Recently did a banner for a friends Etsy page. The image is fine and not blurry at all until its put online. Here it is here http://www.etsy.com/shop/roseandpetal
Ive tried saving it as a JPEG and a PNG-24 in the 'save for web' part of illustrator. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hm. Sounds like you selected some bad compression in Save For Web (JPEG/Lowest, possibly?). But that still doesn't explain extreme blurryness -- it doesn't happen to me. It almost looks like you exported the image, then decided it was too small and resized it with another application.
... If you're happy with this screenshot you made, you could use it instead.
