Upon connecting iPod I get BSOD

I have a new 5th gen iPod and connecting it to my husband's computer works fine. Upon connecting it to my system (both iPod and iTunes are at current versions of software), I do not get the popup window for a new USB device (as I get on my husband's system) and shortly thereafter I get the BSOD on my computer. It is a laptop, and I've tried deinstalling the USB devices and letting Windows reinstall them. I've tried a few other things in the help forums, but nothing has worked, including deinstalling and reinstalling iTunes, resetting the iPod itself. Obviously this is a problem on my laptop, but I don't have any new ideas where to look.

hi stophammertime,
Welcome to the Forums.
It looks like you have some bad sectors on the HDD that's why the OKR didn't work or for some reason, OKR worked but the bad sectors corrupted the OS installation files. To verify this, you will need to run diagnostics on the HDD (try ultimatebootcd as it has diagnostic tools for ever brand of HDD's)
Also, the OneKey Recovery runs on a hidden partition on the HDD (usually the last few sectors of the drive). It's possible to trigger the OneKey Recovery if the partition structure isn't damage but if the target drive has bad sectors (i.e. Drive C:\), it may fail to image the drive or corrupt the installation files.
If verified that you have bad sectors on the HDD, you will need to replace the HDD and from here, you can:
1. Use a recovery disc to restore the default OS (this is only psosible if you have created one using this method)
2. If you can still read the COA product key at the bottom, you can burn an ISO copy on this website and use it to clean install Windows into your PC (if you get issues activating Windows, try to activate by phone).
3. Scratch Windows and use Ubuntu as you're primary OS.
Hope thish elps

  • HT201413 When connecting iPod Nano, getting message that "an ipod is connected but cannot be identified properly".

When I connect my iPod Nano to the same installation of iTunes that we use for my wife's iPod Classic I am getting the message that "an iPod is connected but cannot be properly identified".  This has worked before and I can connect my wife's iPod Classic and synch with no problems.  I have tried resetting the Nano but that did not fix it.  I am running Windows Vista.  Has anyone else had this problem?

I fixed it.  In itunes click help, run diagnostics, run tests, the test comes to ipod and says it is not running correctly so click the HELP and follow the instructions to the end.  Mine was fixed after i restarted computer!!!

I plug my iPod (40 gig, click wheel) into my computer and the screen goes to "Do Not Disconnect" and I can hear the hard drive turning. The problem is that it never pops up in iTunes and have tried to restore and since it keeps churning away on "Do Not Disconnect" it isn't recognizing the iPod.
I've read the forums and FAQs and I've seen similar issues but has anyone had this specific problem?

I have had this problem too and still do to this day - my computer won't recognize that the ipod is attached and basically just freezes up. Last time I loaded music from itunes, I found a very helpful post on this discussion board that told me how to change my USB speed from 2.0 to 1.1. After doing this, my computer recognized the ipod and I was able to load songs (of course it took forever but that is OK). However, I can no longer find the posting. Does anyone out there know how to do this?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up

"I have been unable to use FaceTime on my iPad2 when I only have a 3G connection"
    Correct.
"I get a message saying " You do are not connected to wifi."  Does it only work with wifi?"
    Yes.

  • Itunes crashed too Blue Screen when I connect Ipod to computer

My Itunes crashes to the Windows blue screen of death whenever I connect my Ipod to Itunes. I have ran tried both the solutions that are posted in the support section of this website, but none of those solutions seemed to work. I have an Ipod Classic and am running the latest version of Itunes (8.02 I think). The error code that comes up in the blue screen is:
    STOP 0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x80154000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is quite frustrating.

Did you follow through all the links on the page?
You need to give information about exactly what you have tried in order for someone to help you.
I do not have an iPhone and know nothing about them so I can't give detailed help.
In general you tend to get BSOD with low level problems such as drivers or hardware issues. Are you up to date with the downloads from computer manufacturer's download site for your model of computer? If you follow the links there are various suggestions about the sorts of things that could cause trouble.
If you are getting a blue screen stop, it would help if you could post the exact error message. It should be some sort of numbers and text -
    0x(zeros/letters/numbers) (CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
    For example:
    Stop 0x05 (INVALIDPROCESS_ATTACHATTEMPT)
Also is a file name mentioned in the error message? If so give the exact file name. This is very important as it may identify the driver causing the trouble.
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), you can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Settings" button in the "Startup and Recovery" section
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • XP crashes when I connect Ipod

I tried installing itunes on my work computer so I could hook my ipod up to it and listen to music. iTunes installed fine and works on its own, but as soon as I plug in my 4th Gen 20gig iPod, XP crashes. I get a blue screen that says something about a BAD_POOL error or something. I gather its some sort of a conflict. Can anyone help me troubleshoot?
    It works fine at home.

    Good luck.
Have you tried any other type USB device? Digital camera, portable flash drive, etc? If so - does it crash as well? Or only your iPod causes the BSOD?
If other devices do the same thing I'd obviously tend to lean towards USB drivers or motherboard bios updates.
Something else to look at is what type of USB the computer has. 2.0? 1? etc.... Compare with what the iPod wants.
The only other thing offhand i can think of is - is it saying badpoolcaller?? Because that can relate to memory problems. It could mean as soon as you connect the iPod it taxes the RAM and there's either not enough memory on your PC, or it's taxing it enough it's finding a faulty sector.
Of course, if you're replacing the whole computer that'll work. It'd be great to do that anytime we have an issue, wouldn't it? Would make my life a whole lot easier, that's for sure.

  • Can't connect iPod nano since latest iTunes update. Please help :(

Ever since I downloaded the latest versions of iTunes, my 5th gen iPod nano won't connect. I get a pop-up that says, "Could not install hardware" or something to that affect. I switched cables and usb ports, and no change. What should I do?
I was thinking I want to go back to a previous iTunes version, but I have no idea if you can uninstall a version. I've only ever seen tips on uninstalling the whole thing and reinstalling the same one.
The best "solution" I've gotten was to buy a new iPod, that I was out of luck and the new iTunes versions obviously don't support older iPods, but I don't think that's right. If it is, Apple has lost a customer forever.
If anyone has any tips, I would really appreciate your help.

About one out of every 5 times now my Iphone will sync, the other times it will give one of several errors(see thread above) or it will just stay on the syncing deal forever.
I have not put ANY third party apps on or done anything. Hey Apple, instead of continually putting out updates to turn peoples unlocked phones into bricks, how about addresses some of these syncing issues??
    thanks!!
