Upon upgrading to iOS 6  photo library still says restoring

I upgraded to ios6 on my ipad with no problems but my phone says 'Restoring 49 of 1,967' and the little connection circle is going round and round but nothing has happened.  It has been showing this now for 18 hours.  I don't know if I should resync with my desktop or restore my photos from backup and would not know where to begin if I had to do so.  Any suggestions???

I took a chance and hooked up my phone to my Mac and synced it again.  Was a little patient and all my photos reappeared.  Don't seem to be encountering any of the other problems people seem to be having on the forum.  Thank goodness!

1Tb iCloud storage, 128gb iPad air 2, still saying not enough iCloud storage to upload photos

    Hey EmilyEliza,
As you are clearly aware, it is important for you to have backups of your important data, including all of these photos you are currently keeping on your iPhone. While it is possible to use iTunes or iCloud to do backups of your iPhone, the problem becomes how to access those backups if you have deleted the photos from your iPhone. Once you have done the backup and then removed the photos from the iPhone, the only way to access the photos is by restoring the backups to the phone. See this article for information about backups made from the iPhone -
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
If you want to easily access the photos once they are off of the iPhone, another approach to this would be to import your photos from the iPhone into an application on your Mac, such as iPhoto. To learn how to do this, use the steps in this article -
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support
Once those photos are on your computer, it is still important to back up those photos to somewhere else, so you can be sure of their safety before removing them from the iPhone. Your Mac’s Time Machine application is one method of doing this -
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • I have just purchased the iPhone 5s and my previous phone was backed up on iCloud. However when I restored this on my new phone my photos are still being restored after 4 days. Shows the amount there but no pictures?

I have just purchased the iPhone 5s and my previous phone was backed up on iCloud. However when I restored this on my new phone my photos are still being restored after 4 days. Shows the amount there but no pictures? Is there anything I can do to get them back as my other phone has now been cleared. On my iCloud storage it still shows that my previous phone had all the info still?? I'm confused!

Many users have lost photos while preforming a restore from backup or upgrading the iOS.   Recall, only photos in the camera roll are backed up to iCloud.  There is a way to turn backups for camera roll on/off, perhaps these users had camera roll turned off.
    See:
Settings>icloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage,  tap the device's name and on the next screen, be sure Camera Roll is turned on.
    IMPORTANT...
Photos should be regularly synced to a computer (like you store photos from a digital camera) using either USB via iTunes (on a mac use iPhoto or Aperture to move them to an album) or using photo stream.  If using Photo stream, but sure to move the received photos to a permanent album.  If you have been doing that, then you can sync those photos back to your device.
Or, you can find other apps in the app store that send camera roll photos to a service like Dropbox.
If you haven't been saving photos except relying on iCloud to store them in a backup, then that is risky, as many users have discovered.  I'm afraid I have no advice in this case - there is no "cure".

  • I have upgraded to 6, but home page still says I am not on latest version.

I have upgraded 2 times but home page still says I am not on the latest version.

What do you have set as your homepage? The default Firefox homepage wouldn't have a message like that. Plus, you posted here with Firefox 6.0 - the latest release version.

  • HT1414 When updating my iphone with new software it came up on screen with the cable and itunes sign (which is what I should get when restoration has been completed) yet it is still saying restore. I have tried 3 times and the screen won't change. HELP!

When updating my iphone with new software it came up on screen with the cable and itunes sign (which is what I should get when restoration has been completed) yet it is still saying restore. I have tried 3 times and the screen won't change. HELP!

If the sign does not go away it has not completed the restore. So you are incorrect when you say it "keeps completing the restore" if that message is still displayed.
Do you get an error message? If so, what is the error number?

  • Iphoto upgrade examines my photo library and says its damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened.

For some reason, iphoto automatically goes to an upgrade window upon launch. I believe I still have iPhoto 09 but since it won't launch i can't check that out. But it was created on 3/13/09 and last modified on 9/20/10...so I'm sure it's still the 09 (or is the 08?) version.
At any rate, when I launch iPhoto I automatically arrive at an upgrade window (which tells me that after upgrade my photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto - OK, fine, I hit the upgrade button). Right after I hit the upgrade button, I see that my photo library is being examined. Which results in a message telling me that my photo library is damaged or unreadable and must be restored.
OK, I go to Time Machine and restore the latest. After restore, I see all the files. But when I launch iphoto, hit the upgrade button, it again examines the library and finds it unreadable. I've done this several time now.
    Now what?
    Thanks, Jim

Well that's a Catch-22 isn't it. You can't open the Library but need to for the rebuild.
Coupled with the dodgy back-up I think your only option now is to create a new Library, recover the photos and start over.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • HT201077 Since upgrading to IOS 7'photos taken on my iPhone are not transferring to the cloud. Sometimes a few will up load but then nothing for weeks. Anyone else had this problem

Since upgrading to IOS 7 the photographs I take on my iPhone 4S do not transfer to the cloud. Sometimes one or two of them transfer but then none for weeks. I have deleted photos from the cloud in case it is full but to no affect. I use my iPhone in conjunction with an iPad so this is driving me mad. Anyone else have this problem?

No you're not the only one having this problem in fact many people are having it I spoke to Apple support today about it. First it is my opinion the aspect ratio is different on iPhone 4s compared to iPhone 5s, however I really feel it is a software issue. Just to make sure I am having the same problem you are I will describe my issue. I Have confirmed the following: if I Center an object on my iPhone 4s screen and open the picture while I am still in the app (open on the bottom left it)looks fine. But when I open camera roll and open that particular picture it's also fine
Until I scroll left or right it pulls the image to the left side appearing to cut off the left side of the image. After talking to Apple support today and my knowledge with Apple products I strongly suspect this is a software issue. Apple asked me to do a restore as a new phone but I'm not going to go through all that nonsense when I believe it's a software issue and not a hardware issue. So again to recap to answer your question you're not alone, theses sort of things are expected when they rollout a new iOS just hang in there and let's see if they put a patch out for next update.

  • Wants to upgrade My photo library but says it has to rebuild?

The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. I selected upgrade
Iphoto is unable to open this library.  I selected Rebuild
This will eventually time out after running overnight.  Any suggestions?  I can not view a single pictue....
    Help please.  I have a 2011 MacPro

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on eight different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.

  • The App Store App disappeared when I upgraded to iOS 8.1.3.  I Restored my iPhone 5 and it still did not appear.  How do I get it back?

The App Store App disappeared when I upgraded to iOS 8.1.3 on my iPhone 5.  Restore didn't work, any suggestions?

Any restrictions set up in Settings/General/Restrictions? If yes, disable them. Default apps that are restricted will disappear from the screen, lifting the restrictions again will bring them back.

  • IPhoto upgrade deleted all my photos - how do I restore them?

Hello, I have just upgraded my iPhoto and it appears that this has deleted all my iPhoto library. Any advice on how I can restore my old photos?? iPhoto appears to have started up as a new user and doesen't have any record of any or my photos or albumns.
    Many thanks

I also lost about 4000 photos, folders all empty, after putting older iphoto library onto external hard drive and opening it with updated iphoto.
found the photos  in the pictures folder (although anonymously as jpegs, have to open them to identify them) but how do i return them to iphoto? and why are the other 5000 photos still visible in iphoto?
when i open the package contents in the iphoto library on the external hard drive there is a folder called originals which has all the photos in, but iphoto seems not to be pointing to it.  hard to explain what i mean but basically the photos exist, i photo library doesnt see them, the other iphoto library on the computer that came with the upgraded version is fine.

  • Upgraded to 10.7.5 but still says it can't be installed on this computer

My computer was a 10.6.8 (sorry if whatever terminology I'm using isn't correct, I've been trying to learn as I go), but this error kept coming up that said Mavericks can't be installed on this computer. I read somewhere that in this particular version I have, (2,2) I don't know what significance that is, I can't get Mavericks with that and the only other upgrade I can get is Lion. So I figured if I got Lion, then I could get Mavericks, right? I guess not. Whenever I click the install button it still says, "OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer."
Can someone please explain why this is or what I can do, if anything?
    Thanks (:

    Try "Pacifist"!
Pacifist is an application for Mac OS X that opens up .pkg installer packages, .dmg disk images, .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .pax, and .xar archives, and more, and lets you install individual files out of them. This is useful if you need to install just one file out of a package instead of the entire package

  • Upgrade now missing old photo library

My Mom just upgraded her iLife suite and when she did I think sh emiss selected the upgrade any old librarys and now has no access to the old photos. Is there an easy way to transfer these photos to the new iPhoto program library?
    Thanks!
    Doug

It sounds like she accidentally created a brand new empty library (don't worry - it did not over-write the old one). Use whatever means is easy for you to determine if more than one library exists. (Don't mess with the innards.) If you find more than one, the smaller one is the empty one.
Hold down the option key while you open iPhoto. Help iPhoto locate the correct library.

  • Upgraded to iPhoto6 and photo library didn't come with it

i just upgraded to iPhoto6 and got a message that my library couldn't be upgraded because some files were locked. i changed the permissions on the whole library and unlocked everything. now when i open iPhoto6, there are simply no photos (i had more than 9,000 in my library). i tried to import them manually using the "Import to Library" command, but get a message saying the files are "unreadable".
i read some help files and tried the suggestions with a command in the console and also tried rebuilding the library, but so far no luck with anything. suggestions? thanks.

    Laura:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It's unfortunate you didn't make a backup of your iPhoto Library folder before updating to V6.
You may be out of luck on the albums, etc. but here's one possible way to fairly quickly locate the full sized image file and import them into a new iPhoto 6 library. Here's how:
1 - move the iPhoto library folder to the desktop.
    2 - open it and type Command-F.
3 - in the search mode set the following as the search criteria:
    Kind: Images
    Size: Greater than 100 KB
This will bring up all files whose size is greater than the thumbnails in the library.
4 - create a new, clean library and open it.
5 - select all files in the search results window and drag into the open iPhoto window.
This will give you all your photos in one roll. You'll want to create new rolls with files based on whatever criteria is best for your workflow. I personally like to use rolls by month. Here's how you can do that.
1 - select all the photos in the library and use the Photos->Batch Rename to change the title to the Date.
2 - in the main library under the View options sort by title in the ascending direction.
3 - select files by whatever date criteria you want (you could start by year and then break it down later my month) and go to iPhoto->Create file roll menu option. When the roll is created, select it and change the title to whatever you want in the Info pane at the bottom of the Source pane.
When you're done reorganizing I suggest you follow the tip at the end of my signature.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can I upgrade from IOS 5 to 6 still? Or have to go to 7?

I have a 4S with IOS 5.x on it still.  Can I upgrade to 6.1.3 (have the IPSW downloaded in Itunes)?  Or will Apple refuse it and force me to 7?

Just as a data point, I just upgraded my 4s to IOS7. The principle problem I had was that the Podcast app on IOS7 is really shakey. For me it killed itself after 10 seconds. They troubleshot it for me over the phone and it works now, but it's not hard to crash. Otherwise, it works well with good speed. Just in case you have to go to 7.
If you do, I would uninstall the podcast app, turn automatic update of podcasts from iTunes off, and if you're not already, use over the air podcast update. Then do the upgrade and then reinstall the Podcast App. Should work then. If not call Apple.
