  • Why upper or lower case choices for image file extensions?

Thanks ahead of time for any help.
I'm wondering why you would want the file extension in lower or upper case.   Is there a reason to choose one or the other in various situations?  This choice is an option in the import dialog window box under File Renaming> Extensions with choices of Leave as-is, Lowercase & Uppercase.

Really..."to provide more control for specific workflows"???  I've gotta say... if I'm wrong about UNIX systems and case-sensitive file extensions... it truly would seem senseless that there would be a setting for controlling the case of file extensions.  So far as I know, almost every major application omits such a feature.  For what type of workflow would you ever need to specify the file extension case, if not for a file system that uses case-sensitive file extensions?  I'm just curious, myself, actually...  Is there something I'm missing?
What about writing to legacy network storage where extensions are not accepted unless in a specific case.  I believe Netware used to enforce upper-case extensions at some point.  If you had a collection of legacy data or datastore and had some service or scripts that operating on them, and could not be easily changed, you might really want to control exactly how those filenames are created.
There are any number of paths one can go down where you can end up cursing an application because it cannot do a simple action, like write out a filename in the right case. Think of all the complaints found in these forums where someone has cited some odd use-case no one else could ever have imagined and then stated that it is obvious that Lr should accommodate this because it is so simple to fix (e.g., to do something like provide an option whereby extensions are made all upper- or lower-case.)
You do know that even Windows and OS X are case-preserving, right?  So, the actual case used to create the file is in the file metadata, regardless of what the Finder or Explorer or shell may decide to show you. How this metadata is used by various APIs is open-ended.

  • UPPER and lower case file extensions for Photo Shop Elements using Windows 7

How do I persuade WIndows 7 to show both UPPER and lower case file extensions, which is a very useful facility offered by my ancient, 2002, version of Photoshop Elements? When processing large volumes (100 plus) photos it is very useful to be able to spot those that have been processed among those awaiting my gentle touch. The JPEG file extension produced by my camera is UPPER case so by using "Save as" with lower case the modified photos are immediately spotted. This worked fine on Windows XP and the same programme has loaded and works well on my new laptop which came loaded with Windows 7 EXCEPT that it persists in using UPPER case all the time, irrespective of the preference settings in PSE. HELP!
    Camperman1

In PSE there is a facility "File > process multiple files".
Using this facility you can actually process multiple files at one go and you can easily rename images.

  • Is Central Search Searchable Via Upper and Lower Case Letters

    Good evening,
Does anyone know if Central Search is searchable using both upper and lower case letters?  We have the functionality enabled and can only bring back search results when we use upper case letters.  When we search on the same marketing object using lower case letters, we do not get any results. For example, TK2292 brings back marketing object TK0002292 but tk2292 does not bring back any results.  Advanced Search appears to be able to handle both search scenarios.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Gregg

    Hello,
Did you put a breakpoint in the query method to check what you receive in the field 'marketing object' when you start from the central search of the advanced search?
    Is it different?

  • Upper- and lower case filenames

I have two Mac OS Extended (journaled) drives with one on my laptop and one on my desktop. I sometimes get an error that reads:
"You can't copy some of these items because their names are the same as other items on the destination volume, and that volume does not distinguish between upper and lower case letters in filenames. Do you want to skip these items and continue copying other items?"
Recently this happened when trying to force move (using the Command Key) data from my iDisk to my desktop hard drive.
Does anyone know what is going on here?
Is it advisable to first copy data to the desktop on the volume that you are moving to and then move it onto the harddrive and if so what is the reason for this?
    Thanks,
    Jon

    Hi Kappy.
Thanks. Good information. Are you saying you can only /move/ across filesystems or disk volumes or are you saying you can only /copy/ across filesystems or disk volumes.
My impression was that going from one hard drive to another hard drive - that the default was copy, but that you could force a move by holding down the Command Key. When I do this over here the little green plus symbol goes away seeming to imply that it is moving. However, /sometimes/ the dialog says it is Copying and sometime is says it is Moving.
The problem is when it craps out in the middle of a Move (or a Copy). Ignoring the dupe file names with caps issue for the moment - what are you supposed to do when you get through a Move or a Copy (from Hard Drive to Hard Drive for instance) and Finder presents you with an error?!
My understanding of your explanation is that Finder has gotten part way through a Copy and/or (?!) part way through an Erase.
Is there any way of understanding WHERE it has gotten when it says it cannot complete an operation because filexyz.pdf is in use (even when it is not)? If I am moving 100 GB of data (or whatever) how am I supposed to know if it has only Copied some information, Copied and Erased some information, Moved some information, or Moved and Erased some information?
Irrespective of the amount of data, when you get to the point that you cannot reasonably be expected to manually sort through this data how in the world am I supposed to know what Finder has done? More importantly, what is the best way to get back to a point at which you know what information is where?
    Thanks,
    Jon
P.S. I'm moving data in Target Disk mode at this point and I am not getting errors like "The operation can't be completed because an item with the name "folder 100" already exists - WHEN I HAVE ALREADY SELECTED APPLY TO ALL AND OVERWRITE EXISTING FILES.

  • Upper and lower case Username creates Contact, Calendar, Note acces problems

    Dear All
Maybe someone has a solution for this or discovered the same case. Our server infrastructer is using Username with upper and lower case letters e.g "Galler".
Pushing these access data (Username, server adress etc.) for E-Mail, Contact, Calendar and Notes via the profile manager creates problems for the Contact, Calendar and Notes access, because profiles is rechanging the username in all lower case letters "galler". For the E-Mail it is not the case.
Every help would be very appreciated. Maybe some solution in using username alias with only lower case letters, but I don't no how to establish.
Thanks in advance for your help.

It's clearly not impossible, just different than you expect. Create your playlist as you want it to appear in the Current tab (meaning don't dump every single song from your library in there, just the ones you want) and then save the playlist.
Perre wrote:And if I try to play the m3u file created (the one with every song listed) through freevo I get a message that the directory is empty. What am I doing wrong??
Look at save_absolute_paths_in_playlists in your mpd.conf.

    Hi
here you can find all the functions permitted in the OpenSQL:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/9b/f46cabaa874bc9a82234e8cf1d0696/frameset.htm
So I think that Upper/Lower are not permitted... the work around is to get all the records and check the Upper and Lower case using Java Code functions into your business methods.

  • Queries using "LIKE" but ignoring upper or lower case

I have a question. I need to query the database in a cursor for a search results page. The thing is that I'm searching for a contact name, lets say, and the name is "Steven". My query "WHERE" clause says:

  • Upper or Lower Case Characters

    Hi everyone:
I know this may sound silly, but I am new at this so be nice!
When creating an address for your webpage, do the charcters
have to be upper case or lower case. I know that I have seen some
web addresses with both upper and lower case.

I think she means domain name. In that case, it doesn't
    matter. There's no
upper case in domain names.... As far as I know.

  • Upper to lower case

is there any function module to manage upper case and lower cases

    Hi,
    DATA letters(3) TYPE C.
    MOVE 'abc' TO letters.
    TRANSLATE letters TO LOWER CASE.
    For more infromation...
    TRANSLATE
    Variants:
    1. TRANSLATE c TO UPPER CASE.
    2. TRANSLATE c TO LOWER CASE.
    3. TRANSLATE c USING c1.
    4. TRANSLATE c ...FROM CODE PAGE g1...     TO CODE PAGE g2.
    5. TRANSLATE f ...FROM NUMBER FORMAT n1... TO NUMBER FORMAT n2.
    Note
Like all string processsing statements, you can only use character-type operands here.
If the type of an operand is not STRING, the operand is treated like a type C field, regardless of its actual type, even though no actual conversion takes place.
In an ABAP Objects context, a more severe syntax check is performed that in other ABAP areas. See Only character fields allowed in string processing.
    Variant 1
    TRANSLATE c TO UPPER CASE.
    Variant 2
    TRANSLATE c TO LOWER CASE.
    Effect
The first variant converts all lowercase letters in c to uppercase. The second variant converts all uppercase letters to lowercase.
    Example
    DATA letters(3) TYPE C.
    MOVE 'abc' TO letters.
    TRANSLATE letters TO UPPER CASE.
letters now has the contents 'ABC'.
    Note
The classification of upper- and lowercase, and the actual characters used are determined by the current text environment (see SET LOCALE LANGUAGE).
    Variant 3
    TRANSLATE c USING c1.
    Effect
Translates the contents of c according to the rule in field c1.
When a character from c corresponds to a character from c1, it is replaced by the next character that occurs in c1. If the character appears more than once in c1, its first occurrence is used in the replacement. If a character from c does not occur in c1, it remains unchanged.
    Example
DATA: letters(20) TYPE C VALUE 'abcabcabcXabc',
          change(15)  TYPE C VALUE 'aXbaYBabZacZB'.
    TRANSLATE letters USING change.
    letters now contains 'XaZXaZXaZXXaZ'.
    Variant 4
TRANSLATE c ...FROM CODE PAGE g1 ...TO CODE PAGE g2.
Parts marked with " ..." are interchangeable
TRANSLATE c TO   CODE PAGE g2.
TRANSLATE c FROM CODE PAGE g1.
    Effect
Converts the contents of the field c from character set g1 to character set g2. This variant uses the conversion table g1 to determine the SAP character, which is then used to determine the new character from g2.
Transaction SPAD allows you to display and maintain character sets. If one of the conversion tables does not exist, the runtime error CONVERSION_CODEPAGE_UNKNOWN occurs. Conversion combinations that are maintained as part of the runtime system for performance reasons do not trigger runtime errors, and you cannot change them using Transaction SPAD.
    Example
    DATA c(72) TYPE C.
TRANSLATE c FROM CODE PAGE '1110' TO CODE PAGE '0100'.
This statement converts the contents of field c from the HP-UX character set to IBM EBCDIC.
    Note
Fields with types I, P, F, and X remain unchanged by the conversion. The syntax check only allows character fields for specifying the codepage. However, since the codepage is maintained in table TCP00 as a type N field with length 4, you should use this type.
    Variant 5
TRANSLATE f ...FROM NUMBER FORMAT n1 ...TO NUMBER FORMAT n2.
Parts marked with " ..." are interchangeable
TRANSLATE f TO NUMBER FORMAT n1.
TRANSLATE f FROM NUMBER FORMAT n1.
    Effect
Converts the number formats in f. Currently, the number formats '0000' (HP, SINIX, IBM) and '0101' (DEC-alpha OSF) are supported. Other formats trigger the runtime error TRANSLATE_WRONG_NUM_FORMAT . If you omit FROM NUMBER FORMAT or TO NUMBER FORMAT, the system uses the system number format.
    Example
    DATA: f TYPE F,
          hex(2) TYPE X,
          nform LIKE tcp00-cpcodepage.
The contents of fields hex and f are stored in /ARCHIV
from another platform. hex is stored in a valid number
form when it is saved, and can therefore be read on
    all platforms.
    READ DATASET '/ARCHIV' INTO hex.
    READ DATASET '/ARCHIV' INTO f.
nform = hex.  "Conversion from non-host-specific. HEX into N(4)
TRANSLATE f FROM NUMBER FORMAT nform.
    Effect
Converts the contents of f from the nform format of a given platform into the system representation.
    Note
This converts fields with types I and F. As in variant 4, you should define the number formats with type N and length 4.
You can display system codepage and number formats using the function module SYSTEM_FORMAT. This allows you to store additional information for archiving purposes.
    Note
    Performance:
Converting lowercase letters to uppercase (or the other way round) in a 10 byte character field requires around 7 msn (standardized microseconds).
If you use ... c USING c1... to replace two characters of a 10 byte character field, the runtime is around 9 msn.
    Note
    Runtime errors:
    TRANSLATE_WRONG_NUM_FORMAT: Invalid number format.
    Don't forget to reward

  • Managing Upper and Lower Case in URLs

    Hello,
In conjuction with using Dreamweaver and the 'Round Trip' feature with Fireworks, I've created a menu (with drop-down and horizontal kick-out submenus) using the 'Slice' feature; however, every time I save the Fireworks file, all the first-letter upper-case letters I created (in the link's URL) for directories and filenames revert back to all lower case in the link's URL address. Is there some way within the Fireworks application where I can de-activate this automated 'lower case' default? I would like to have the choice as to retain my upper case letters in the URL each time I save the file and perform a round trip to Dreamweaver....AND...also have the upper-case letters retained after closing the Fireworks app and opening it up again (which does not happen at present). Any and all advice would certainly be appreciated!
    Many thanks!

    Hi Linda,
Thank you for your feedback. You're right in a way that I find I have to tweak my upper/lower case letters in the Dreamweaver source code. But let's say I want to add another graphical menu selection to my drop-down menu (created by editing my 'slice' in Fireworks with its own .html file under my site directory 'images' folder)...but, as a result of invoking the 'Round Trip' function between Fireworks and Dreamweaver, the new menu selection also now appears in my Dreamweaver's index.html page --- after 'Save' , and as it should do (...BUT...overwriting all upper-case letters in all URLS within the index.html file---all the ones I had to tweak before in the Dreamweaver index.html source code ---- so, it appears every time I want to create a new graphical menu selection (or even edit an existing one for that matter) in Fireworks...the round trip writes over all my previous upper/lower case URL tweaks in Dreamweaver. If I could somehow manage the upper/lower case issue within Fireworks--and maintain it between closing and re-opening Fireworks--that would definitely solve the problem.
    Kind regards,
    John
