Upping the number of Recent Files shown in menu?

There used to be a preference for this in CS2, but I can't find where to up the number of Recent Files shown in the File menu. Is this still possible?

Look for the Preferences file in your user-folder and open it in a text editor.
Then change the entry maxRecentFiles
If you want to be sure: make a copy of the file before editing

Does anyone know whether it is possible to increase the number of recent projects displayed under FILE > OPEN RECENT. At the moment it only displays 10 and I would really like to increase that number.I looked in preferences to no avail.

Launch Terminal.app from /Applications/Utilities/ and enter the following line:
    defaults write com.apple.logic.pro NSRecentDocumentsLimit 50
"50" is the number of recent files you'd like to have.

Charles: Right now, there are as many rows as there are entries, but only three are visible so I have to scroll the list to see all twelve in my case.  Would it be possible to simply grab the window and increase its size so that more rows were visible, in the same way that you can with the entire Plugin Manager window?
To automatically increase the size of the list of folders while also automatically increasing the size of the list of plug-ins is actually a fair amount of work to refactor.  Our research shows that the vast majority of people just have the default two folders.  However, how would you feel about 5 rows of folders as a compromise?

  • Easy question - how to increase number of recent files in menu?

This is for CS5 if it matters.
I'm an infrequent Illustrator user (at best) but I have what I hope is an easy question: I want to increase number of recent files showing in the menu.
I can't find a preferece to set such as in PS and almost every other application on the face of the earth. I've tried to reset the preferences file (start Illustrator with ctrl-alt-shift held down) but I'm stuck at 4 files, which I assume is the anemic default option.
Is there an easy way to do this that Adobe has hidded somewhere? As expected, it can't be found in the help, I can't find it on the forums, or even on the net, but I do know it can be done because I can see other installs showing lots of files in the list.
    thanks for any help.

This might be because of a new feature that you can turn off for each object, and alltogether. When you create a new document at the bottom, make sure 'Align New Objects to Pixel Grid' is unchecked.  After you have created a new file, you can still go into the 'TRANSFORM' palette (SHIFT+8), use the little right top menu, and make sure 'Align New Objects to Pixel Grid' is unchecked. And if you want to get fancy with each object; you can select an object, and look at the 'TRANSFORM' palette at the bottom is a place to uncheck the 'Align to Pixel Grid' at your disposall.
Before I found this, it ruined my week.

  • How can I remove items from the open a recent file menue.

How can I remove items from the "Open a Recent File" menue. Many other applications allow the clearing of that file . Is this possible in Adobe Reader 10.1.2 ? If so how?

It is for Acrobat, but the registry entries are similar for Reader.

  • Best practice for reducing the number of XML files in an IDML file for translation?

Our engineering team is looking for ways for us to reduce the number of XML files produced when a (relatively) simple 2-page INDD file is saved out as IDML for translation?

IDML contains quite a few XML files, but I suspect you're only interested in the Stories folder if you're working on a translation. The way to do that is... to reduce the number of stories. If it's a two-pager, chances are that you have a whole bunch of unthreaded text frames. Thread them in logical reading order. This will help the translator(s) as well - by threading frames in logical reading order, they don't have to work to read the document in the same order as the target audience.

Aperture import plug-in won't run.  After examining my library the number of image files stays at "undetermined" and the import button stays greyed out.  Any thoughts?

Others have the same issue, with the import button being grayed out.  My trail copy expired, but I believe by poking around in the options and selecting another Aperture library and re-selecting, I was able to continue.
The problem is common enough, that hopefully Adobe will address.  In the mean time, try repairing your Aperture library, checking permissions, exporting a subset of your library for a test, or try putting that library subset on an external drive.  (Can usually avoid permissions issues.)

  • Place Cursor not showing the (#) number of text files loaded

    Hi all,
I´m using Indesign CS3, updated to the latest patch availabe, this is 5.0.4. I´m using Windows 7 32b.
When trying to import text files via File > Place and I select 2 o more text files and click OK, the Place Cursor should show in parenthesis the number of files loaded right?. Well the bizarre issue I´m dealing with is that this (#) doesn´t show up. I can see the little preview of the text to be imported but not the (#) number of text files loaded. If I press the down arrow key on the keyboard the mini text updates and cicles through all the loaded texts. That's fine.
I wanted to screen capture this issue so I installed Techsmith Snagit 9 on my computer. When I was ready to capture the Place Cursor on Indesign, Snag it captured it showing (2) documents loaded. ???? What´s going on?
    Anyone could explain this issue?
I´ve already rebuild my Preferences with no luck.
What I see in Indesign http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/1774/whatiseeinindesign.jpg
What I see after the screen capture with Snag it 9 http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/6001/screencaptureinsnagit.jpg

  • When I open a PDF, I want to choose from 3 applications, not just 2 plus other. How can I change the number of recent applications that get listed for opening a file type?

I'd like firefox to remember the 3 most recently used applications per file type, not just the most recent 2.

On my Windows 7, with any browser, all downloaded files go into the Downloads folder.
If you can't find your downloaded PDF docs, try a search for *.pdf

  • How to clean up the list of recent files in the Getting Started Window?

The pinned/not pinned distinction for projects appearing in the getting stared window (GSW) is a bit moot if like me you are working on only a few projects.
What I find particularly distracting is projects popping up in this list if, say, I check out some examples, or temporarily load a project from an alternate location, etc.
I want to remove those from the list right away, but as simple as the request sounds, I could not figure out how to do that elegantly.
Pinning/Unpinning doesn't work, there is no "Clear recent file/project list" in the corresponding LV menus and the only way I can think of doing that is by editing the ini file.
    Am I missing something?

This has been one of those majorly annoying things I have screamed about for a long time.  And when they created the "new" GSW with the pinned projects and recent files, I was so hoping they would just add a simple right-click menu to remove an item from the list.  But no.  It didn't happen.
Here are a couple of Idea Exchange entries I found with a really quick search:
Exclude Examples from RECENT FILES and RECENT PROJECTS
Menu selections to clear history of recent files and/or projects (wow, only 3 kudos so far!)
There are only two ways to tell somebody thanks: Kudos and Marked Solutions

  • Is there a limit to the number of video files that can be included in a captivate 6 project?

I have a project that includes 15 slide video files.  When I preview the project in html or publish it, I get a green rectangle where the video should be on about the 10th slide.  Even if I rearrange the order of the slides, always on about the 10th one I get a green rectangle where the video should be.  Is there a limit to the number of slide videos you can have in a project?

    Craig,
It was image.cpp line 2770.  I am told (by another person in the company that has seen this) that it has been seen on several machines, always PXI controllers, but not on all PXI controllers.  I am told that it is not always image.cpp that reports the error, but for me it was always the same line of code identified by the error message.  I did not have a chance to do any experimenting to find a particular threshold number of mnu files.  I may be able to find error logs.  I currently sent the controller to our IT department, doing a windows XP repair, just in case there was something corrupted in the system itself.
The error was reproducible.  This installation at one time must have included real-time / FPGA, because on the opening screen I ge the drop-down ring for selecting a target.  If I click on this drop down ring, I get the crash on line 2770, every time.  If, instead I open an empty new VI, I am able to switch to the block diagram by selecting the window directly with the mouse, but if I try to pull down on the "window" menu to do "show block diagram", I get the crash on line 2770, every time.  Because the user-defined mnu files are now deleted, I would have to create them again, or find a way to reinstall them, to reproduce the error at this point.

  • How can I increase the number of Recently Bookmarked entries?

There is a blue "Recently Bookmarked" folder in my bookmarks library. I want to increase the number of bookmark entries that are saved to this folder. I'd like to set it to 20 or 25. Can this be done? how do I do it?

Create a new smart "Recently Bookmarked" bookmark and set maxResults=## to suit your needs.

  • What is the magic behind "recent files"?

    Hello,
Usually file managers have implemented the feature to list and show recent files for quick navigation and finding.
But what does "recent" exactly mean? Recently used, modified or created?
I am asking because from my experience it only shows recently used but not recently created files.
    Can anyone confirm that?

There are *many* standards in computing - that's just one.  And for a vast majority of the *nix world it wouldn't even make sense or work at all.  That is a Desktop standard.  So you will find that programs that are part of a Desktop Environment will adhere to it.  Programs that are not, will not.  <sidenote> while I don't imagine it was your intent, it is hard for me not to cringe at the idea of a poorly written standard that leads to bloat and poor functioning programs being forced upon all software developers - not everyone has or wants a gui let alone a DE </sidenote>
KDE and gnome both have their own screenshot tools that undoubtedly will make the appropriate entries in these files.   In other words, if you want a tool that works with your DE, get a tool for your DE.
I'm pretty sure there is a way to "manually" add a file as well, so you could make a wrapper script for scrot and/or other programs that would run scrot, then make the entry in the file list.

  • How to increase the size and the number of log files

    OS Win2000 BD version Oracle8.0.5
When i Execute a big Transaction, for example: Insert into a table with 100,000 records,
Oracle tell me that archive log require,
    but I write log_archive_start =true in init.ora;
I think Maybe the size of log file too small?
    Any other suggestion?
    Thanks

    Hello Long Guohui,
If your Database is running in Archive Log mode and if the Automatic Archiving is not enable then obviously Oracle
will ask that "Archive Log Required".
But if your Database is running with NoArchive Log mode then Oracle should never ask you that "Archive Log Required".
If your Database is running with Archive Log Mode then Oracle always recommends that the Tablespace where
you are going to Insert the 1,00,000 records, make that Tablespace Mode from Logging to Nologging, so that
Archive will not be generated for those entries because Redo does not Generate for that Tablespace as it is
Running in Nologging mode. If Redo generates for those 1,00,000 entries then it may affect the other DML
executing in you Database. So it is always recommended to do like this. But after the Insertion is done
successfully Oracle recommends immediately takes the Back of that Tablespace where you have just
    Inserted 1,00,000 Data.
    For making a Tablespace Nologging:
    ALTER TABLESPACE <TABLESPACE NAME> NOLOGGING;
For Making a Database from NoArchive to Archive:
    1)     SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE
    2)     IN THE init<sid>.ora FILE SET THE FOLLOWING PARAMETER WITH VALUE:
    LOG_ARCHIVE_START = TRUE
    3)     STARTUP MOUNT
    4)     ALTER DATABASE ARCHIVE LOG
    5)     ALTER DATABASE OPEN
