Uprading Phone questions to a confused person?

So um I'm going to upgrade my phone in about a week. My contract was previously set from the LG EnV 3 but I lost that one so I had my mom's old phone and I was still able to keep that contract. Anyway, I have several questions regarding upgrading my phone. I tried contacting the verizon wireless store from the information given from the "Contact Us" on this website but it didn't work for some reason.
Anyway, my first question is how much will the verizon company give for an upgrade? I've been hearing it's anywhere from $25 to $100. Next week, my two year contract will end so does that mean I'm going to get $100, and hopefully not just $25, for my upgrade?
Next, I heard in some droid forum that if you're contract is expired and you are getting an upgrade after or when your contract expires, you get an extra $50 off of whatever you're buying? Is this true?
Third, I have a $50 giftcard to bestbuy. Can I use this giftcard to buy a droid phone (Incredible or X2 or something like that) from bestbuy and still have the same coverage and data plan or whatever?
Yeah I got my LG EnV 3 as a surprise present and they handle the monthly payments and all the stuff so I'm new to all of this.

Next week, my two year contract will end so does that mean I'm going to get $100, and hopefully not just $25, for my upgrade? This depends on a few things. The credit you're referring to is called the NE2 discount. This discount only applies to the primary line on the account, and the price depends on your calling plan and the last time you signed a contract. This program was done away with in January of this year, so if you DO have any left to use, it will be your last one. If you log on to My Verizon (you must be the account owner) it will show you how much of a discount you have to use, or you can call Customer Service. This credit does expire 6 months after you become eligible (so, 6 months AFTER your 20 month point of your contract is fulfilled)
Next, I heard in some droid forum that if you're contract is expired and you are getting an upgrade after or when your contract expires, you get an extra $50 off of whatever you're buying? Is this true? This is the same thing as the credit I spoke of above. Verizon doesn't "give you" anything for an upgrade - just the NE2 credit if you're eligible.
Third, I have a $50 giftcard to bestbuy. Can I use this giftcard to buy a droid phone (Incredible or X2 or something like that) from bestbuy and still have the same coverage and data plan or whatever? 3rd party retailers often have their own contracts and return/exchange policies, as well as warranties and insurance. Just be sure to read everything very carefully and know what you're signing up for. 3rd party retailers do not honor NE2 credits - those can only be redeemed through Verizon. Remember, if you choose to go with Best Buy and you do in fact have an NE2 credit on your line - you will lose that for good.
Yeah I got my LG EnV 3 as a surprise present and they handle the monthly payments and all the stuff so I'm new to all of this.
Also please remember that since you're upgrading to a smartphone from a feature phone, you'll have to add one of the new tiered data plans. If you had a data plan on your EnV3, it will not be grandfathered in due to it being a feature phone.

I lost my iPhone 4 in Brussels last week. It was in airplane mode when lost. I also had a code to unlock the phone. The phone was off when lost. My question is: Can a person access my personal data on the phone? Can they take the chip out and place it into another iPhone and access the personal info on the chip or is the personal data on the phone itself and could they put a new chip in and access the data?

I have Find my iPhone App, but it says that it is offine.
I've checked all week and it is offline.
I clicked on erase iphone when phone accesses the internet on the Find my iPhone App.
I just want to know how safe is my personal information that I have on that iPhone?

  • Bluetooth connected phone call waits until the person answers to connect through speakers! How to change this.

When placing a bluetooth call the car shows that the phone is connected but there is no ringing (it is still ringing in the phone speaker).  Then the person answers and it plays through the car speaker, but misses the first word.  What is happening?  I used to hear the phone ringing.  Now it waits until the person answers.

This occurred when I updated the IOS to 8 and switched to an iphone 6 from a 5.
I read both articles and did not find a solution to my dilemma.  To clarify further:
When hooked up through bluetooth to my 2011 Honda Accord
    - incoming calls will ring the phone through the speakers and I can answer and speak through the speakers/car microphone by touching a switch on my steering wheel
    - outgoing calls that I initiate by touching the phone number on the phone will ring in the phone until the person picks up, it then switches to the car speakers (unfortunately, the hand-off results in missing a word or two that the answering person has said).  This did not work this way with my iphone 5 and ios 7.
I hope this is better communicated and there is an answer.
    Thanks.

  • Trying to update my billing info and get an error 413.  Howabout a phone number and a real person and forget the foolish online crap? n

Tried to change my billing info and got an error message 413.
How about supplying a phone number and a real person instead of the inpersonal online activity that apparently does not work.

    Hello Dennis,
please give us feedback, whether you had been successful. If not, maybe we can interest a qualified and educated employee of Adobe's staff.
Nevertheless I normally I would use Contact Customer Care = http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html, by clicking through the headlines.
If none of the conditions is fulfilled, and if "open" please use chat, I had the best experiences. I quote from Preran: The chat button is activated as soon as there is an agent available to help.
    Good luck!

You won't be able to activate it even if you do jailbrake it.  There's no way around activation lock without the assistance of the prior owner.

  • Returning phone question?!

About three weeks ago I got the blackberry classic. After ten days of using the device I decided it wasn't for me and returned it within the 14 day return period and went ahead and got the Note Edge after paying the $35 restocking fee. I'm not completely sold on this phone just yet, but I recall the rep saying, "that once I switch the Blackberry for the Note, that I wouldn't be able to exchange the Note for something else, even if I pay another restocking fee." Does anyone know if this is true?

We want to make sure correct information is provided about your Worry Free Guarantee return. To clarify, you can only complete 1 wfg return. • TS4036 I have backed up my phone to icloud, photos, music, contacts, but now most of my contacts don't show up on my actual phone, and all I have on the text is a phone number instead of the person's name. What happened?

I am new to the icloud, and I have a question. I have backed my phone up to icloud, with photos, music, contacts, etc. but now most of my contacts have disappeared on my actual phone, and when someone sends me a text, just a phone number shows up instead of their names. What happened? How do I get all of my contacts back on my phone?

  • Can I figure out the last numbers I stored on my phone? I got a persons number and store it in my phone but don't remember the name

I met someone last weekend and I stored the number in my phone but don't remember the person's number. My phone has tons of numbers so it's impossible to tell which one is hers. Is it possible to tell which are the last numbers I added to the phone?

Did you download it to iTunes?
If so, connect your iPhone to your computer and open iTunes. Click on your iPhone and navigate to the Tones tab. Be sure to click in the box next to Sync Tones and mark the ones you want on your phone. Then click on the Apply button and you should be all set. Once your iPhone finishes syncing, open your iPhone and choose settings > sounds > Ringtone. In the listing of possible ringtones you should see the ones you just added at the top of the list. Tap the one you want to use for your main ringer and it is a done deal.

  • J2ME on cell phones questions

    Hi,
I'm in the process of picking a project and wanted to see how doable it is. The project involves a cell phone and a Java program to use Bluetooth. This is real unknown territory for me so my questions are very simple. First does J2ME have packages/classes that allow for bluetooth communication (name)? Or is that a separate package I need to find?
Second, can you save to files/permanent memory from an application running on a cell phone (to save some program settings etc). On the cheapest cell phone usually how little memroy is available? Also can you name some classes that allow for this in J2ME (other libraries).
Finally how standard is all this? What's the probability that the program will run on all of the new cell phones? On all new cell phones from same manufacturer?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
J2ME has JSR 82, that specifies BlueTooth stack. It's bundled with latest WTK releases (and netBeans 4.0 Mobility Pack as well). If it's available on device depends on HW equipment of the device of course.
For your second Q: RMS storage is defined by MIDP 1.0 itself so yes, you can store some records. Not sure about the size I guess you can count on 8kb. The storage will be more , least I know of is 30kb on Nokia 6310, usual sizes are 1-5 Mb, smartphones use MMC cards, so the size can grow to hundreds of megs.

  • 2 Phones, one account IOS6 confusion

I have read many versions of this question online today and virtually every answer says "gah, idiot, look on Apple support" but there is no answer that deals with my question in its entirety (plus the rudeness is unhelpful). Or maybe I really am just an idiot.
Anyway, my daughter and I have an iPhone each. She has always used my Apple ID from the early days of iPods and it is convenient to carry on in this way.
Since updating to IOS6, (she updated last night, before me - I think this is relevant). All her contacts have replaced mine, which is annoying, BUT WORST OF ALL the phones think they are the same unit. When I updated the initial screens said that both her & my numbers were on the handset.
If I text her, I get it and she gets it. Her friends text her, I get it. Her boyfriend texts - I got it (awkward). We are unable to ring each other because the phones think they are calling themselves.
She setup iCloud for the first time last night - I suspect this is the cause of the problem (I could be wrong, I refer to my earlier idiot comment).
So - how can we split the phones again - if she needs her own Apple ID how can she do this without losing her library - does a change of ID affect this?
If she needs to have a different iCloud setting - how does she do this and can she retrieve what was stored yesterday - or will one of us lose our contacts to be replaced by only one (hers or mine?).
I hope that this makes sense, and if you can help please do so. If you feel the urge to be rude, try your best to suppress it, m'kay? x x

It's pretty easy to create a new Apple ID. The only nontrivial part is getting whetever data she may still need from the old one to the new one.
She can create a new Apple ID with a web browser at My Apple ID.
Then she can switch to using the new one as follows:
Settings > iCloud > Delete Account > Delete
(Despite the name of the button, Delete Account really means unlink it from this device, but it unlinking will remove dependent information like Photo Stream photos and documents.)
Then she has to link her new account to the device.
Alternatively, she could create an Apple ID directly on her iPhone. One path is as follows:
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account... > iCloud > Get a Free Apple ID...
and follow instructions. The advantages of this path is that it leaves the existing Apple ID in place until she has the new one set up; the disadvantage is that she still has to switch to that as her primary Apple ID.
I believe there is also a path on the device starting with unlinking (deleting) the old account and creating a new one, but I haven't followed that path to detail it for you.

  • 3 cards, one confused person..

Firstly, I know this a stupid question but I was out with editor friends and they confused me...so here it goes.
I'm buying a new mac pro to edit (fcp) in a live tv environment HD and SD. I'm Re encoding (evs) M-Jpeg files via media x change to IMX quick time. May need to record video, may need to play out.
Someone said I need a KONA card! another guy said a really good PCI express card!! and the third said a good quality Nvidia card i.e Quadro FX 4500!!!
I have tried to get info on the web but I just get more confused, can someone explain the difference between the three, in language a guy who only understands REALLY SIMPLE language can understand....
    please and thank you...
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

To expand on the previous comment, since it may not be entirely explanatory:
If you're doing FCP editing (live or not) your big needs will lie mostly in processor, RAM, and drive speed (not necessarily in that order). A Kona card is for encoding video (both in and out), and will likely be needed no matter what video card you go with, but has no purpose besides encoding video. Your computer can also do the encoding, but the purpose of the card is to offload that task. A Kona card is not a video card, and if you're in a "may need it" instead of "will need it daily" situation, it's probably not a huge requirement in your case.
Thanks to the power of the Mac Pro, the video card you use will make almost no difference in your editing unless you're doing something that requires 3D or requires more than one very large display. If you require two or more large displays, or require a card for 3D/GPU rendering (such as in Motion 2.0+) using the GPU (the processor on the video card), both the ATI X1900 and the very expensive NVidia will cover your needs. If you require neither heavy GPU processing, or more than one large display, the default video card will serve you well.
    My two cents:
Please (oh please please please) do not get suckered into buying gear that isn't needed but sounds good because "It's what 'all the pros' use", or is very rarely needed. If you only need a piece of equipment once in a while, rent it for a week. The saved money will go toward more RAM, which can always be used for anything.

  • Moto G Prepaid Phone Question

I am very interested in getting the Moto G by Motorola as my next phone.  I have always had contract phones so switching to a no contract phone is new to me.  On the Moto G page it says "This phone may only be used with Verizon Wireless Prepaid service for the first 6 months after activation."  I'm a bit confused on what this means.  Does it mean that this phone can only be used as a prepaid phone for 6 months, then you are forced to get into a contract?  'Cause that is really what it sounds like and that doesn't make sense to me.  Or does it mean that after 6 months, you have the option of having it as a prepaid phone or a contract phone?  If anyone could give me some insight on this, it would be very much appreciated.

After six months on a prepaid plan, the phone is eligible to be activated on a postpaid account. It can be used on the prepaid plans for as long as you want.

  • Smart phone questions...

I'm considering upgrading from my current flip phone to a smart phone.  It's been almost a year now since I've switched to mac and love it.  I bought an iPad earlier this year and love that too.  If I get a smart phone, it will be an iPhone 5S.  My questions are about how data plans work with features of the phone.  My plan would have unlimited minutes, so using the phone or texting wouldn't be an issue.  I currently don't text, but will most likely do some as it would be free.  I like the idea of having a device where I can check email, take pictures, etc., however I don't plan to do web browsing unless I'm using wifi or for an emergency.  The reason for this is that if I upgrade, I'm going to get the basic 250 mb data plan.  So here are some of my questions/concerns:
    1)  Is there anything that will consume data from the 250 mb plan besides the things that I would typically do, email, etc?
    2)  Does watching youtube videos or browsing the web while on wifi have any effect on data usage?
    2)  Does taking pictures and storing them on the phone have any effect on data usage?
    3)  I have Verizon, do they offer a way to tell where you are at with data usage?  I'm assuming that they might have an app, but if they did, that would pull from your data, no?
I don't think I'll ever exceed the 250 mb from just checking a few emails each day but figured I'd ask others who have experience with these devices/plans.   Thanks.

    1. It depends. If you have automatically push/fetch settings on emails and iCloud backup, it can drain data. If you download apps or load videos while forgetting to turn off data and use wifi, that could be another mistake.
    2. It doesn't have any effect on data usage as long as you turn OFF cellular data and use wifi ONLY! If you have data and wifi on, data will be used from both simultaneously.
    3. Taking pics and storing pictures on your phone doesn't use data but if iCloud backup is on for backing up yur photos can drain data.
    4. They do have an app to check your usage on their mobile app.
250mb data is awfully small compare to my T-mobile plan I have unlimited data and I used about 6GB data download app, videos and such but you should just see how much you use for the first month and decide to bump up your plan if you need to.
