Upright feature: check 'Constrain Crop' by default?

The new Upright feature in LR 5.0 is fabulous, but is there a way to have the 'Constrain Crop' option checked by default? This would save me having to manually check it each time.

Just wondering if you've found an answer to this question. I'm having to manually check the Constrain Crop box for hundreds of images--big pain!

  • Possible bug: Clicking on Constrain Crop does not constrain crop

Anybody else experiencing this bug? I saw it a few times, rarely, in LR 4.1 and earlier. I am seeing it more often in LR 4.2 (but nowhere near 100% of the time, this is an intermittent bug)
In the Lens Corrections panel, I make a set of corrections, check on Constrain Crop, and it does nothing. If I then uncheck Constrain Crop, the crop is constrained. This is backwards from the way it should work.
Also, if I have a photo where it appears that the crop is properly applied, sometimes if I move on to edit the next photo, and then move back to the original photo, the crop is not shown visually anymore (Even though it was shown visually a few seconds ago), and the check mark is gone in the Lens Correction panel, even though the History panel says that the most recent entry is: Crop Constrain To Warp says "yes".
    Does anyone know a solution?

Wow... I'm using Photoshop CS5 for Windows and have just encountered this very same problem. The print preview shows the corner crop marks in the correct location as designated by the Bleed... setting (.1"); but when I print, the bleed setting gets ignored and the corner crop marks revert to the outer edges of the image.
This happens when I print to my Epson color laser or to my Brother b/w laser. It occurred to me to try one other test - and interestingly enough, when I printed to a PDF, the corner marks appeared correctly in the output!
So far, I haven't found any other information on this apparent bug besides this ancient thread.
Anyone willing to test this out and give their results? Thanks!

  • "Constrain Crop" in presets

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but does anybody know how I save a preset that includes a manual lens transform (specifically lens barrel distortion) and also retains the checkbox "Constrain Crop"?
I can create a preset, which applies the distortion correction, but nothing I've tried will retain and apply 'constrain crop', which means I end up with grey curved edges to my photos.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Any 4.1 users able to confirm whether this has been fixed in the update?
    Basic details: 64bit LR4.0 on Windows 7, upgraded from 3.6 (or 3.5, I can't really remember).

When you crop iPhotos provides you with predetermined Constrain or aspect ratio options.  The workflow is:
1 - in the edit mode click on the Crop button.
2 - select the Constrain aspect ratio in the drop down menu.
3 - adjust the constrain window in the edit mode to fit your needs.
4 - clik the Done button.
If you plan on having multiple sizes of an image printed you should make multiple copies and provide a properly cropped image for each size. One way to to that is:
    1 - crop to size A.
2 - export to a folder on the Desktop via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export  with Size=Current and Quality=High or Max.
    3 - recrop to size B.
    4 - repeat step 2.
Always check the exported files with an app like Preview to make sure they are what you want before taking in to have printed.

    Joe,
I presume you are trying to build Oracle BDB and not bsd as you have mentioned.
Yes, the error message you are getting is for not having the CC compiler in your system or the path isn't set. Check in the /usr/vac/bin directory if you have one in your system. You might find both xlc and cc compiler there. Set this directory to your path so that 'configure' can see it.

  • Text Tool Fails After Constrained Crop

I'm making some large buttons for a project and used the constrained crop to standardize the buttons to 200x158. While PS lets me select the text tool, making a new layer, and locate it on the image, the text does not appear in the layer when typed. When I clicked the move tool the layer name changed to the text I had typed but it still did not show in the layer. This behavior does not occur with an unconstrained crop. Is this a bug or am I missing something?

You have probably acquired a strange setting in the Character panel.
Try resetting it from the drop-down menu top-right of the panel.

    Hi
I would trash - iMovie pref file - and re-try - sounds like this got faulty.
    • Delete iMovie pref. file. iMovie pref. file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD) / Users / "Your account" / Library / Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    com.apple.iMovie9.plist
    com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)
( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter:
chflags nohidden ~/Library (exactly like this - space included)
Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )

  • Feature Request - custom crop default & making canvas larger

Please make lightroom quicker for people who use 8x10 instead of the original proportions from your camera.  I am aware of the trick to copy and paste or sync with crop,  however if lightroom could have a way to setup at a default custom crop so it loads up that way when first used, and keeps the crop as the default from one photo to the next that would be great!
It would also be nice if when cropping and you need to make the canvas larger and go outside of the original dimensions of the photo that lightroom does this automatically.  Right now I only know to use the scaling feature, it would be much quicker to just add this logic to lightroom so it scales outside of the photo when you are cropping if thats what you would like it to do.
    Thank you!

Brett  I dont think you understand my question.  theres two parts to it.
When you crop and select the aspect ratio theres no way to make this a default, so each time when i get to a new image i need to select 8x10 again.  if 8x10 was made to be my default lightroom would not crop out some of the pixels unless I choose the crop tool and use the crop tool.  I am just looking for lightroom to be faster its annoying how it defaults to the original image dimensions for the crop tool each time you select the crop tool you have to change the crop ratio.
The second request is one that rawshooter used to do automatically when you use the crop tool you can easily crop outside of the dimensions of the photo, thus making the canvas larger.  this gives you an image that you can place into photoshop and fill the empty spots, this helps change the composition of the image if shot with the model in the center you can easily move the model with a crop and by filling the background in the new empty space especially easy with a simple background.  I hope this helps, its easier to do more with lightroom.  i do it right now with the scale feature in lightroom, but it would be faster if lightroom did it automatically if you pull the crop tool outside of the image area.  Thank you!

  • Feature Request - Iphoto cropping issue

I don't know how to request features officially, but I've seen a few of these threads on this forum. If someone knows how to make an official request, please let me know.
I am a professional photographer who has to edit thousands of photographs at a time. For the straightening and cropping portion of my workflow, I use iPhoto. Anytime I switch between cropping and straightening from one photograph to the next, the size constrain dropdown box on the cropping tool gets reset, and I have to choose 4x6 again. Having to reset this dropdown to 4x6 thousands of times is very time consuming.
If I crop one photograph at 4x6 and move to the next, it stays at 4x6. If I crop the first, move on and straighten the second, I then have to choose 4x6 again in the cropping tool.
Whoever has the ability to make this happen, PLEASE give me an option of choosing a default cropping constraint of 4x6 or 8x10 or whatever and have it stay the size I choose until I change it. Not having the crop tool stay at whatever size I choose when editing photographs is very, very tedious.

I appreciate your point, but $100 software for straightening and cropping photographs is overkill, especially considering iPhoto had the capability to do what I'm asking three versions ago and it was removed.
I do my editing in other programs and don't wish to pay for something when I won't use 98% of it.

  • Crop marks default

How to change defaults when creating crop marks from the effects menu? I have to create my own crops at work more often than not, specially when we have more than one job on the sheet at different sizes. The ones created in Illustrator are at 0.25" from trim and 0.5" long, I would like to make it 0.125" from trim and 0.25" long. I remember a script that did just that, but can't find it in here. Anyone with ideas? Help is appreciated.

Yes, I can advise that I called Adobe shortly after receiving CS4 to report this problem. They took away "Filters" and thus the crop mark command (for a few years it was called Trim Marks to distinguish it from the crop mark command in another menu) vanished.
Not only can't you select the trim marks to modify them, you will also find that unless the selected object(s) are grouped, you get a multitude of crop marks. It's idiotic and it's broken and there should be a fix for it before we have to upgrade to CS5.
Moreover, if you make a rectangular bounding box, and then surround it with crop marks, and then turn that bounding box into a guide, your crop marks disappear.
It's just a broken feature, that's all, and multiple artboards is not a good excuse for it.

  • "Do Not Constrain" crop setting won't stick

I never crop using a set ratio. The crop is always determined by the content of the image and I always want to be able to move one side independently of another, as with any other program, so this is making me crazy. It was a drag that Ap2 defaulted to a constrained ratio and made you toggle the menu at every boot, but I can't even get it to stay on the "Do Not Constrain" setting in between tweaks of the same image. Maddening.
It's a dealbreaker for me, no matter how great the rest is. Is this the way it is or have I got a quirk in my rig?
    Thanks,
    J

As far as exposure goes, the extra parts (surrounding film, either negs or transparencies; the slide mount) scan black, and with a decently exposed image, they shouldn't be much different than the black in the image. Note that this is completely unlike reflective scans of opaque materials, where you need to crop down while scanning, to keep the auto exposure from reading the surrounding border (which might be yellowed, say) or the scanner cover background (which might be much whiter than what you're scanning.) There have been a few times where I'm trying to rescue a blown out image and I'll crop in more on the subject of interest to get a better scan exposure.
As for cutting mats, etc. it's kind of ironic, but while I shoot almost nothing but film, I "display" the vast majority of it online! In which case, who cares what the proportions are in relation to standards, as long as they make sense for the image for whatever reason.
I thought of two more situations where I always crop randomly. First is the whole reason I bought Aperture: a life-long project (it will probably fall to a few generations of heirs at the current rate!) to get high quality pictures of every pinball backglass ever made. By the time I got to a couple of thousand slides, I desperately needed something like Aperture to help me organize and process the images. But there have been any number of backglass sizes over the years, plus I want to nudge the crops a bit even on ones that are the same proportions, to make up for an edge shadow or paint defect or whatever. And they all get cropped because I shoot them with decent "margins" to begin with, to allow room for deskewing, errors in the viewfinder vs the slide mount, etc.
The other one is sporting shots of my sons. I grab what I am capable of under the conditions (field position, lens length, my ability to track the action, etc.) and then reframe once scanned to make the best picture I can from what's there. Which leaves them all over the map in terms of aspect ratio, but then they're mostly viewed online by he and his friends, copied to Facebook, whatever, where standard ratios are completely unimportant.

  • Cropped pfd defaults to resolution of 9999

I have Photoshop CS3 and Windows XP. I used to crop pfds and the resolution stayed at the normal 72 default. Now when I crop the image shrinks very small and when I check in image size the resolution goes to 9999. But in preferences the resolution is still 72.
    What is going on?

I assume you mean PDF file not PFD.
What settings are you using with the crop tool, in PSCS3.
H, W and resolution, input boxes.
What is the image resolution before you crop the image?

  • Upright features awesome but a few problems

I've been playing around with this feature a lot since it seem to have the potential for saving me a bunch of time.
It was a bit tricky to figure out how to turn on the upright mode for a large batch of photos without syncing the actual adjustments... and once you've made that mistake pretty much impossible to fix without resetting all development settings and then just syncing the upright mode. (no bug, just the process of learning a new tool)
The biggest problem with this feature for me is that the changes are not visible in the crop and straighten module.  For example, lens correction straightens a photo and in the process crops it in. I then go to crop and straighten module to make an adjustment and all I have to work with is the cropped in photo (you can't see the full original). So, basically if the Auto straighten is off by just a little bit you have to go turn it off and then manually crop and straighten rather then just being able to tweak the auto adjustment.
Also, using this tool doesn't work well with using the "previous" button to copy over development settings. It would be extremely helpful to be able to choose which settings were copied with "previous".
It seems to be amazingly accurate and potentially huge time saver for photographers. I really hope that others learn to use the tool so we can push for some small improvements.

Did you watch this: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/whats-new-in-lightroom-5/lightroom-5-correcting-perspective-usin g-upright/
It may give you some answers.

  • How to check radio button as default on the basis of database value?

    Hi Friends,
I have one jsp, in which I am having a field of radio button, which have two boolean values of 0 & 1. I want to check the radio button as default on the basis of database value, kindly help me out.
Thanks a lot in advance. Please help me out.

probably, when using struts you should do all your calculations in action class it self
    Eg. in jsp
    <html:radio name="myForm" property="myProperty" value="0">0</html:radio>
    <html:radio name="myForm" property="myProperty" value="1">1</html:radio>
    in Action class
    if (databaseValue == 0)myForm.setMyProperty(0);
    else if (databaseValue == 1)myForm.setMyProperty(1);
    rest will follow
whatever be the value it will come selected

  • How to check in document in default storage when using CV01N?

    Hi community!
I was in the process of configuring content server for an ECC 6.0.
I had installed the content server version 4.6 in a separate system and its working well.
Then i finished all the configurations relating to creation of repository and linking it to content server through CSADMIN. I am setting in DC10 use KPRO. In transaction spro  Cross-Application Components --> Document Management --> General Data --> Define Profile. I am  create a profile, which can be assigned either to a role. Under "Determine definitions for applications" i am define a storage category to a workstation-application. However, when I go to CV01N, and try to check in a new document i did not even get the drop down list instead of my default value. Saves if I manually select "Check In". Am I missing a step??
Edited by: Igor Polushkin on Apr 15, 2010 1:55 PM

    Hi Igor,
If there is no profile based on user-id then it calls FM SUSR_USER_AGR_ACTIVITYGR_GET to check if there are any roles existing with the user-id assigned to it. For example: it returns one role.
Now if this role is assigned to two different profiles, then the system picks anyone profile and accordingly use the settings maintained to this profile.
Please make sure that if a user-id is assigned to more than one role and both these roles is used in different  profiles then in this case you have to explicitly mention the user-id in the profile directly rather than using  only the role name.
Below is the explanation with example :
Consider that USER_1 is assigned to ROLE_1 and ROLE_2. And this USER_1 is linked to two different profiles  using these roles. If you want that USER_1 should use Profile_1 please make the settings as below :
    Profile_Key     Role      User Name
    Profile_1       ROLE_1       USER_1
    Profile_2       ROLE_2        -
The below settings does not work, as system can pick wrong profile.
    Profile_Key     Role      User Name
    Profile_1       ROLE_1        -
    Profile_2       ROLE_2        -
I hope this information could be useful for you and help to get your profile settings work.
Another solution for controlling which storage category will be choosen is to use an implementation of BADI DOCUMENT_STORAGE01 with method BEFORE_LIST_STORAGECAT.
    Best regards,
    Christoph

  • Setting Crop Dimensions Default

When I start to crop an image (R or by clicking the crop button in Develop), the crop selection box always is set to Original. I crop most images to 8x10 and would like to have that as default, rather than Original, but I can't find a way of doing it. Any help?
    Thanks

I don't know a way to change the default, but you can set an 8x10 in one image, and then crop-sync it to all your other images. That will have the same effect as changing the default.
