Upright JPEGs Appear On Their Side When Imported To FCE?

I have imported numerous upright (Portrait View) JPEGs into FCE and they all appear on their sides (Landscape View).
They were converted to appear correctly oriented in Photoshop and Preview but refuse to behave in FCE.
I know I can use the Motion window to rotate them but there is a very large number.
How do I batch do it and more importantly is there a way of making FCE recognise from the start that they should be upright?

I have just batch converted the JPEGs to TIFFs in Photoshop and they display correctly in FCE.
It looks as though it is a JPEG "feature" ......... is there any way of handling JPEGs to stop this behaviour or must I always convert them to another format?

  • Songs not appearing in Music list when imported

When importing a CD (or even purchasing via the iTunes store) the new tracks do not appear in my Music list, even though the songs are sorted by date added - the only way I can view new tracks as they import from a CD is by signing out of the iTunes store!!!
    Surely this cannot be right?
For info, I have not paid a subscription to "Song Match" (or whatever that completely useless feature is called!) - I've read that that feature has caused a similar problem for some people.
Oh, and does anyone have any inside information as to whether Apple have taken notice about the plethora of complaints about the dreadful iTunes 11? I for one have already submitted 3 complaints to them... so far!
    Many thanks!

If you both want to use the same library (all songs, movies, playlists, ratings, etc.), do this…
    1 - Quit iTunes.
    2 - Move your entire /Users/'me'/Music/iTunes/ folder to /Users/Shared/.
    3 - Move all the folders/files in /Shared/iTunes media/ to /Users/Shared/iTunes/iTunes media/ folder.
4 - Hold Option and launch iTunes.
    5 - Select *Choose library...*
6 - Select the /Users/Shared/iTunes/ folder then click Choose.
    Everything should work fine.
Quit iTunes then log into your wife's account.
1 - Hold Option and launch iTunes.
    2- Select *Choose library…*
3- Select the /Users/Shared/iTunes/ folder then click Choose.
That's it! If you are using Fast User switching, only one person at at time can use iTunes.
Any changes made by either person will be seen by the other.

  • Black bar left side when importing

When importing Quicktime HDV 1080i60 video into an HD project, I wind up with a black bar on the left side of the movie. I've tried every combination of HD format and preference setting. Can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong?

For everyone who is interested, I tried some more things:
I had a long phone call today with Apple Support (when upgrading to Mountain Lion you get 90 days phone support again) and we did similar things.
First: change the settings - didnt work
Second: Option+Cmd+P+R to reset  PRAM - didnt work either
Third: create a new partition, clean install mountain lion and see if the problem still exists. At the beginning it worked but after once changing the resolution it cant get back to the correct displaying anymore. Same problem also.
They said that then it is probably the fact that the driver of the display doesnt work with ML - I should contact Acer now.
Or I should get back to the technical helpdesk again.
    Will try both...
But it means that it is a software issue caused by ML.
    Keep on trying...

  • Aspect ratio changes when importing to FCE 4.0.1

I'm hoping someone with a better understanding of FCE will be able to help...
I have footage shot in 1920x1080 (16:9) format. I have the sequence set to any of the available 1920x1080 (16:9) formats via Easy Setup. Create a new Sequence with the correct settings. However when importing the footage into FCE it converts to a 1440x1080 (4:3) aspect ratio... This I understand is the anamorphic format of 4:3. What am I supposed to do so that when importing, the original format is not altered.

I do know what 4:3 is and what 16:9 is. First, understand that there is no HD format, none, that is 4:3. They are all widescreen. 1440 is a way of compressing the media to use a limited data rate more efficiently by applying it to a smaller frame size while maintaining the standard display size. The material is displayed at full widescreen. If you have 1440 material in FCE you have probably noticed that the canvas is not 4:3. The canvas is widescreen. That's the display size.
Actually HDV's native format is not 1920. The native format agreed by the HDV consortium is 1440x1080 for 1080i material. That's the compression size. The display size is 1920. HDV is normally shot and compressed to 1440x1080 in camera. That's the native size of the frame.
The HV20 is an HDV camera. The CX12 is not. It's an AVCHD camera. That's a different format. They are not the same, and they compress media in entirely different ways. HDV is an older format that compresses to MPEG-2. AVCHD uses H.264 in MPEG-4. Neither of them are production formats. They are both compression formats that were designed for delivery, compressing group of frames. In their original format they are almost impossible to edit, which is why FCE and other applications convert the media to a production format that uses individual frame compression so you can edit exact frames. HDV is either 1280x720 or 1440x1080 (displayed as 1920). AVCHD is either 1440x1080 or 1920x1080, both displayed as 1920x1080. You can also have 1280x720 AVCHD, though I don't know any camera that actually shoots that excellent format.
"The footage resides on my computer." Perhaps you'd bother telling us how you got it into your computer. What application did you use? Every application will handle the ingest of this media in a different way, consequently it may not work properly with this application. I assumed you used the application this forum is about to bring this material into your computer. Did you, or did you ingest it with something else? How did you get it into the computer for you to import in FCE? Once again the correct size for this material is very likely 1440x1080. That's the native size for HDV sequences that are 1080. In 4.0.1 you can have sequences that are 1920x1080. These are designed to accommodate that AVCHD material shot at 1920x1080. Not all AVCHD material is in that size, and frankly there is no real advantage to it, and probably some disadvantages as the same data rate has to be used for a largely frame size.
All this said, I'm not sure what you're hoping and waiting for.

  • 2nd audio track at 12-bit lost when importing into FCE?

I have got some DV-tapes with finalised movies which I would like to import into FCE for a) applying some enhancements and b) then burning them onto DVD. These movies once were created with FCE but after they had been exported to DV-tape (in 12-bit manner) some additional audio was added, directly via camcorder. The issue which I have got now is that although I can easily re-import these movies into FCE, the additional audio does not appear in FCE. Also, when directly checking the imported files in FCE's Capture Scratch by using the Quicktime Player the additional audio is not there.
I tried importing into iMovie and here (as opposed to FCE) the complete audio is available, both the audio originally composed via FCE and the additional audio which has been added afterwards via camcorder. Unfortunately iMovie will crash multiple times at importing due to the large number of individual clips, btw this is the reason why I once had to give up working with iMovie and bought FCE.
Anybody has an idea how I can import into FCE the movies along with the entire audio, or is this a weak point in FCE? In case of the latter, anybody has an idea for a workaround?

"Do you have an idea how to fumble out the 2nd audio pair at a Sony TVR900 i.e. how to proceed corresponding to your advice "configure the camera to ouput the second stereo pair to another DV camera with it's audio set to match the existing"? Or did I misunderstand your advice? The user manual of the Sony camcorder is ridiculously poor.."
The user manual of course is the best (should be) place to go for info on how to operate your camera. Might be one of those direct to English translations.
My idea is to use a camera that can access the 2nd stereo pair seperately. Then dub to another camera. Usually this is done via a switch or menu system.
That's where that camera manual comes (should) in handy. Also, some cameras allow you to MIX the four tracks, if this feature is available, you could dub the MIXED audio (all four tracks) to another camera.
"e.g. iMovie (provided it does not crash)? Because then I could capture the missing audio pair 2 like that in a separated manner and import it into FCE?"
iMovie to FCE is not my first choice as the importing is accompanied with quirks of all sorts, the audio is multiplexed with the video, the audio will always need to be rendered as well. Use it as a last resort IMO.
I have have heard of third party applications that can do this job, sorry, can't recall the details.

  • When I import  pictures from my Nikon some of the photos appear on their side and blurred.  When I click on them they load fine but still remain incorrect in the preview at the bottom.

In addition if I create a book, when I drag the picture they do not correct and remain as the distorted picture.  Normal pictures also appear blurred when dragged into the book box.

Have you tried to rebuild the previews?
Select all images, then ctrl-click and select "Update previews" from the pop-up menu?
On my notebook I did not notice such an import problem, but my notebook is  running Lion.

  • How to freeze a scene push it to left and make another scene appear at the side when doing a split s

    Hello everyone,
I am new to the editing world. I am just trying out various options in Adobe premier pro cs 5.5. Here is the scenario.
I have four videos. I am able to do a splitscreen using scaling in the effects control. I am also able to crop the black bars using the crop tool. I did those, placed all the four videos one above the other in the timeline, and made all the four to appear onscreen in the form of a grid with two videos aat the tp and two videos at the bottom.
    What I don't know
When a video is playing in full screen i need that video to be paused and pushed to the left. then the next video should start playing in the size of the remaing screen and it should then be pushed to the left. This should end after the fourth video ends. See the video below to get and idea of what I want.

Please send me a tutorial or video or guideline or anything that would help.

  • Livetype pixillated when imported to FCE

I rendered some titles with backgrounds and then imported them into FCE 4, but when i played them they were very pixellated. Is there any way that there can be a higher rendering standard so that it is not?
I also tried to save it and import it directly into FCE, but the backgrounds or "textures" i used did not appear. All that was there was the title and a black backdrop. I know that to render it, i had to check the box saying "render background" and then it rendered everything just like it played in livetype. Is there a way to use a livetype title so that it comes with the texture or background and is in good quality?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Did you monitor your final sequence (with LT title inserted) on a monitor?

  • 16x9 image on mini-DV becomes 720x480 when imported to FCE...?

I've looked under FCE settings and preferences, but still haven't figured out why it's not importing the 16x9 image as is...?
    Craig

    Hi -
You need to use the Easy Set Up with the Anamorphic option.
Change your easy set up, re-capture your footage, open a new sequence and you should be good to go.
iMove looks at the embedded code for the Anamorphic flag, FCE in this iteration does not and you have to tell it you are working with Anamorphic footage.

  • Keynote quality drops when imported to FCE

Hi, I am currently creating a video that includes keynote animations.
I exported the keynote presentation as a 'Full Quality, Large" mov file, which plays great with QT, but importing this into FCE creates a dropdown in quality. Images are a bit blur, and texts look jagged.
Is there a specific setting I should have made in order to maintain quality??
    Thanks in advance.

create your Keynote charts in final project's resolution 1920x1080 ..
    export from within Keynote as Quicktime/Appleintermediate, 25/30fps, 1920x1080, p ..

  • No audio when importing footage under capture

When I'm importing footage from my camcorder into FCE there is audio in the caputure window & no levels on my audio meters. The camcorder I'm using is a ZR500 Mini DV using to import.
These are the steps I have done: File -> Easy Setup then Format: -> (all formats)
after that Use: DV-NTSC Firewire Basic.
Then I went to File Capture. Any advice? I'm getting no audio when importing on
    FCE 4?

    Welcome aboard idw3,
Then I went to File Capture. Any advice? I'm getting no audio when importing on
    FCE 4?
That's normal for FCE. All versions have been the same. If you need to hear the audio use the cameras headphone socket if it has one.
All audio can be adjusted in the Timeline during editing as required.

  • Imported ID pdfs appearance alters when imported into Quark as picture

Can anyone tell me why Indesign created pdf's change when imported into a quark picture box? I receive ads from various companies for a magazine in hi-rez pdf formats and when imported the appearance changes to include all the components/elements/boxes/etc. of the make-up of the ad....the things that are not supposed to be seen. Please help... advertisers are complaining and i can not stop it, or fix it.

Quark converts PDFs to EPS internally and thus has no support for the
more advanced features of PDFs exported from InDesign.
You should request EPS or PDF X/1-a if you want to continue to use
Quark. That said, this is an InDesign forum so I will heartily recommend
    you switch to InDesign.
As you've discovered more and more folks are doing just that and you're
going to be left in the dust and those advertisers are going to be
looking elsewhere to spend their money.

  • Color space conversion problem when importing JPEG's

    Hi,
I'm currently playing with the trial version of LR. While importing JPEG's with different color spaces (sRGB and Adobe RGB) to LR I've noticed a strange effect: There is a small but noticable difference in color, depending if the JPEG was previously saved in AdobeRGB, or sRGB. All the images I've tested so far should not contain critical colors that exceed normal sRGB. When opened in CS2 both versions of a JPEG, AdobeRGB and sRGB, typically look perceptually identical, no matter if I leave the sRGB image to sRGB, or convert it to the working space (AdobeRGB). Also my color-managed image viewer behaves as it should. So I don't think it's a matter of the different color spaces.
Looking at the imported images in LR I would say that the AdobeRGB image is correctly converted while the sRGB image suffers from a slight reddish cast, most noticable in skin tones. The effect is not as strong as if I would load the sRGB image into CS2 and skip color conversion to my working space (AdobeRGB).
The sRGB versions of the JPEG's were obtained from the AdobeRGB JPEG's using CS2 for conversion.
Anyone else here experienced a similar problem? Is this a bug in the xRGB-to-ProPhotoRGB conversion of LR, or a feature?
    /Steffen

    Hi Uli,
thanks for pointing me to your thread. I followed the discussion with great interest. Actually, I think the effect I am describing here is of different nature and a LOT stronger, at least for the type of images I've tested.
I did some more experiments yesterday with interesting results:
    1) When I export a processed RAW from LR to JPEG or PSD, no matter what Color Space (I tested AdobeRGB, sRGB and ProphotoRGB), and re-import those JPEG/PSD's to LR, they look absolutely identical to the RAW I started with. Also, at first glance, they look similar when opened in CS2, but only because I tested with color images. I can indeed see small differences when testing with B/W, as you described in your "Color management bug" thread.
    2) When I change the color space of an PSD or JPEG inside CS2 (I used the default setting 'relative colorimetric') and save it to JPEG and then import this JPEG to LR, colors are far off. The strength of this mostly reddish color cast depends on the color space of the imported JPEG, strongest for Prophoto, less strong for Adobe and sRGB. Interestingly, when I convert the color space inside CS2 and save the result to PSD, it will display correctly when imported in LR. Another interesting side effect: the thumbnails of LR-exported JPEG's in the "Open" dialogs of CS2 and LR (I guess those are not color-managed) show the typical color-flatness for the Adobe and even more the ProPhoto version. For the CS2-converted JPEG's, all thumbnails look just a colorful as the thumbnail of the sRGB version.
    3) Such an image which doesn't display correctly in LR will keep its color cast when exported again to a JPEG (not sure about PSD). So something goes wrong with the color conversion during the import of such CS2-converted images.
My explanation so far is that CS2 uses a slightly different way of coding the colorspace information in the metadata of JPEG's which somehow prevents LR to recognise the color space correctly.
    Can you confirm this behaviour?

  • IDVD cuts sides off imported PAL DV file when burnt to DVD

    Hi,
I have been struggling to solve a problem with burning a DVD over the last few days. I have created a slideshow in a programme called Photo to Movie and have then exported the movie as a .MOV file at 720 x 576 resolution (PAL DV) into iDVD. All goes well, and I then add an introduction and burn it to DVD. When it has finished, I view the DVD in my IMac and it appears fine. But when I go to use it in a DVD player (I have tried several, with several different televisions) it cuts about a centimeter off the sides and top (so it doesn't show the whole photo). But it only cuts this off the imported movie, not off the introduction that I created in iDVD. Obviously I have tried changing the tv setting to 4:3, smart, widescreen, etc. It still has the image appearing cut off.
My settings in iDVD are video mode set to PAL, Aspect Ratio set to Widescreen (I have also tried setting it to 4:3 and it does the same thing after the DVD is burnt and shown on a television), Best Quality.
So I really don't have a clue what to do now. I mean, if the file has exported ok as a Quicktime MOV and is the correct size for PAL DV (720 x 576) when inserted into iDVD then there should be no problems, I would have thought. Also, it appears ok on a computer.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm pulling my hair out here (and I don't have a lot left to pull out). Thanks in advance for your help.
