Hi, Thanks for the great video.
I'm having a problem -- when trying to sync Upright Auto across several images it appears to be pasting the transform instead of the auto correction.  I set it exactly per the video, yet I still need to hit the "Reanalyze" button for each image -- which sort of defeats the purpose of the sync.  I have the same problem if I use "Upright" in a custom preset.
Is this a program bug?  Or is there something I can change about the way I'm doing things?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Thanks OT,
I tried the Export function but it would not allow me to choose the option of exporting to iMovie. I think you are right about needing Quicktime Pro. I opened iMovie and imported the clip from iPhoto and with some searching found the 'cropping, rotation' mechanism. So I now have a copy in the correct orientation. I plan to import/export it back to iPhoto because I want to have a copy on my iPhone to show people and I wanted to have it available as part of a slideshow I am making in iPhoto of my recent overseas trip. It is a pain that there is no simple orientating tool for the movie clips downloaded to iPhoto with the photos from the one camera.

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
    1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
    2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
    1. Right click images you want to share.
    2. Select Export version.
    3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
    4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
    See how you go.

  • How do I get pictures to email upright

How do I get my pictures to be upright when sending it in a email? Never had this problem before until I upgraded to ios5

This has to do with the recipient's email client or photo viewer ignoring or not recognizing the orientation data included with the photo's EXIF by the iPhone. There is no setting for this with the iPhone - the problem and setting required lies with the recipient.

Generally, one can work around this by holding the phone with the buttons down when taking a landscape type of picture.  Not a sensible way to hold it, but it does solve the problem.  It is likely that it will take some time before all the photo handling programs learn to handle the orientation correctly.

  • Duplicate concentric dots while keeping numbers upright

I'm trying to illustrate several concentric circles shaped with dots containing numbers, as follows:
Right now, I'm creating the circle patterns by rotating copies of the shape by even degree amounts. Each circle aside from the center one is a multiple of 6. Then I divide the number of dots in that circle by 360 degrees to determine the degree to which I must space the rotation of each dot in that circle from the previous one (always using the center of the dot in the very middle as an anchor point). The problem is that I want these circles to contain numbers, the orientation of which should not be rotated. Like above, the numbers should be 'upright.' So, simply copying a circle containing a number and rotating multiple copies of that circle is insufficient (i'll just end up with a bunch of rotated numbers).
Any ideas on how to on a very large scale (maybe 100 concentric circles made of dots), create this illustration and ultimately have the numbers upright (without manually making each number upright through individual rotation)?

With just a couple of minutes work I was able to make the following using a bit of text with an added fill converted to an ellipse (and tweaked slightly to center the text) and then use Object>Transform>Move to make the copies.

  • Can I invert a short video clip so that it is upright?

I need to turn a short video clip upright to be part of a slide show. how can i edit this clip? Please respond. Thank you!!

You would need to to that with QT Player 7 with QT Pro installed.  iMovie can rotate the movie also.
I've used QT Pro for a long time now and have found it to be invaluable in trimming and joining videos as well as rotating.
You can search MacUpdate.com for "video editor" or "movie editor" to see what other editing options are available.

  • Mainstage not responding when I select Ivory Upright Pianos

    Hello,
I am trying to set up a new "Concert" in Mainstage 2.1.1. When I try to set an instrument to a 3rd party instrument that I have, Synthogy's Ivory Upright Pianos, it looks like it is ready to work but then Mainstage stops responding and I get the infinite spinning beach ball of frustration. I have yet to successfully get Ivory to work with Mainstage. Ivory works without a single problem in the standalone application and in Logic Pro.
Has anyone experienced this and/or does anyone have any suggestions for possible fixes?

i apologize for not having written back sooner. for some reason, i didn't receive notification of a reply to my question.
i'm experiencing the problem on both my iMac (early 2008 aluminum 2 GHz with 4 GB of RAM) running OSX 10.6.4 and on my MacBook Pro (late 2009 2.26 GHz with 4 GB of RAM) also running 10.6.4.
i still haven't figured out a remedy, though my current workaround has sufficed in the interim (just using Ivory with Logic Pro rather than MainStage).
    thanks.

We got our wires crossed there.  I initially posted that it was under the Manual tab, and then realised you were using 8.1 in CS6, so edited my post.  Sorry for the confusion.

  • LR5 crashes on import with 'Upright' dev preset

I created a new develop preset to apply Upright Mode and Upright Transforms, under Lens Corrections.  I then updated one of my import presets to apply that develop preset during import.  Every time I import using that preset, Lightroom 5 crashes: Windows reports that it has stopped working, and offers to send crash details to MS.  Once I altered that same import preset to no longer apply that new develop preset, the import works flawlessly.  I can apply that develop preset to individual images without issue.
If it's pertinent, the images being imported are from a Canon Powershot 310HS.

Certainly!  Sorry for the delay; I'm on the road.
Below is the contents of my preset.  Note that occasionally, I also simply see LR5 crash while working in it, and not using the develop module, let alone importing or auto-straightening.
Also, I'm not sure why the preset contains a clarity adjustment of 0, since I did not check that portion while making the preset--perhaps just the way LR does it?

In an exported pdf-presentation, a black background always fits the page to landscape format.
