UPS software for new MacPro?

The software for the APC UPS I just ordered appears to date back to OS X version 4.1 or thereabouts. Has anyone been using it successfully with Leopard? Has there been an update? Hope of an update?

You don't need the PowerChute software. Energy Saver will recognize the UPS and can be used instead of PowerChute. If you want to use the PowerChute software you can download version 1.3.4 from VersionTracker or MacUpdate. It works with Leopard, but as I said it isn't necessary. I'm using the same UPS with Energy Saver.

What's the Best Photoshop CS5 Scratch Disk Setup for New MacPro 12 Core?

Hello all...
I'm awaiting delivery of a new MacPro 12 Core with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD drive (Bay1) + 2TB (Bay2) + 2TB (Bay3). Normally I would partition about 60GB of one of the 2TB drives to make an exclusive scratch disk for Photoshop to ensure optimum performance.... with the new spec MacPro and especially the new 512GB SSD, do I still need to do this..?
Any suggestions of comments most welcome... as I want to try to get my new machine set up as best I can before I start copying over my existing data and filling hard drives etc. Photoshop CS5 and Quark Express 8 are my two core apps that I use daily.

Anti Virus Software for New iBook - Any Need for it

Is there any real need to buy any Anti Virus software for a new iBook running Tiger.
If so what would be the best software to Buy.

Some will say that NO form of protection is required. Some will say that there is a good case for having at least some protection.

Cisco Wireless card software for new laptops

Since new laptops no longer have PCMCIA slots, and Cisco doesnt sell a compatible card, at least none I can find, will their site survey tool work with the built in cards? I need to do a site survey for implementing a MESH, and dont have the software anymore, mine died a horrible death.

Try Ekahau Site Survey or, better yet, TamoGraph Site Survey. A far more attractive price tag and excellent quality. TamoGraph should support virtually any built-in adapter, unless it's Ralink-based.

Blackberry software for new Windows 7

I had a similar problem with my Slimline s5330la with Win7. It started as soon as I took it out of the box. Any media file sounds distorted with a very annoying intermitent "buzz". Updating the BIOS (to V5.07) and reinstalling the Realtek HD Audio driver didn't help. HP support changed the machine (it was 2 days old) and sent me a brand new one........with the SAME problem!!!!!! I just installed it and it has the same distortion. I've been on the phone with HP support and they have no clue on what is happening.
I suspected that it was not a "sound" problem since when a song is being played with the HP MediaSmart program and the title of the song appears on the screen, the name of the song "jumps" and "freezes" at the same time as the distortion appears as if the machine got some kind of interference.
After checking the latency of my PC with "DCP Latency Checker" (www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml) I realized that the problem was not the sound driver but the wireless driver.
Disabiling the 802.11n Wireless PCI Express Card Lan Adapter "corrects" the problem. This was not a solution given what without that driver you are off-line! However, at least it is more clear what the problem was.
I had version 3.0.1.0 (19/05/2009) of the driver by Ralink Technology.
HP has no updated driver for that component on their website but I found newer driver on RALINKTECH web.
I downloaded the 3.1.0.0 version from www.ralinktech.com. Installed it and the problem was solved.

Deactivating software for new computer.

I'm about to get a new computer, but I can't remember all the software I need to deactivate for licensing purposes. (Adobe CS4 and iTunes are the first that come to mind)
Are there any Apps that can tell me what software is activated? Or perhaps an online checklist of popular, activated software?

Not that I know, but most app will let you de-activate even if you no longer have the original Mac. The one you mentioned are a good start, but I would not worry about it.

3rd party software for new computer

My old computer is no longer available. I have a new computer that I need to download iTunes onto. The problem is that I need some 3rd party software to be able to sync the 2500 songs from my 80GB video ipod to the new computer. I don't really want to pay for this software. Any suggestions on free software that is reliable to download? Thanks.

Which SAS 15k rpm internal audio hard disk for new MacPro running Logic Pro

For my new Logic MacPro machine, I'm planning to have a 7200 rpm drive for programs and a 300gb 15k rpm drive for audio.
Are there any other drives out there that I could buy which are as good (and quite) as the £510 one that Apple supply, but for a little less cash?

Save your money on the 15k drive.. You won't need it. The SATA drives are plenty fast enough, unless you are wanting to stream HD vision along with your session, in which case another drive in one of the spare SATA bays will kick along just fine.

After installing HP software for new printer laptop shuts down several times a day

I had an older HP Photosmart printer and it lost it's wireless connection often. I decided to get a new printer and purchase an HP Officemax 8600 printer and immediately my laptop started shutting down without notice. It would leave me a notice that my computer had shut down and another screen showing all of the code and asking me if I wanted to send the error to Apple. I am sure they have now received dozens or hundreds of these notices and of course I still have not responded. I have not seen a fix. Really poor response from a company that I thought had a committment to their customers. Though wrong.

Some of the HP software creates a lot of network traffic. It can overwhelm some routers. What kind of router and ISP do you use?
Download 13 from here but do not subscribe to the Customer Participation Program (it creates a lot of traffic).

How do I install printer software for new brother MFC9970CDW printer?

I have a new macbook air and am trying to install a new printer. Brother MFC9970CDW.
I have received message saying software installed but get stopped when i click to "add printer" any suggestions?

Run Software Update (from the Apple menu) and select the OS update. There are new printer drivers in OS 10.8.3. That might help.

At Apple Canada it is a 512GB SSD that costs an extra $1340 to add to your custom build.
I really like what I've read about the OWC SSD below:

They are not really good SSD drives.. they are SAMSUNG and are very much so, inferior compared to the OWC SSD drives.. do yourself a favor - don't waste your money on stuff that won't work right.. Get the OWC + save $$$

Using the strict definition of a computer virus, no viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions. Whilst it is a fairly safe bet that your Mac has NOT been infected by a virus, it may have another security-related problem, but more likely a technical problem unrelated to any malware threat.

Hi , The Officejet 4630 will not work with 10.5 and lower, it is only compatible with 10.6 and above.
The only suggestion I can make will not likely be ideal, but you could email anything you want to print from the computer to the printer.
Each HP ePrint-enabled printer, such as the 6520, has its own unique email address. After you enable HP ePrint on your HP ePrint-enabled printer, you can print from your mobile or network-connected device by sending an email to your HP printer's email address. With HP ePrint, you can print from anywhere, at any time. If you can send an email, you can use HP ePrint. This blurb, and more information, can be found in the following HP Document, ePrint Product Specifications. As mentioned. This is likely not ideal, it really depends on how much printing you plan to do. If this is practical for you as a work around then mission accomplished, we found a solution, if not.... The only other options would be to consider taking the printer back and getting a different model that is compatible with 10.5, or upgrading the OS if that Mac can allow for an upgrade to 10.6. I know you'd rather not upgrade, but you might consider treating yourself, there are some nice new shiny Macs available. Can not install software for the camera on my G10

New poster today seems my CD/DVD media drive has stopped working, tried to install software for new camera, just getting blue screen and a small flashing disc, seems there is no power in drive.
Any advice welcome only had machine since late June 2005.Am I doing something wrong or does it sound like a service problem

Well like xaver said it could be a hardware problem but before you contact the ASP try to remove the drive from the device manager. After new reboot the OS should recognizes the driver again. Maybe this procedure will help you to solve this problem. But if not, please contact the service partner

Can an early 2008 MacPro be reconfigured as an effective video server for 2 27" 2013 iMacs plus a New MACPRO (to be released) and how would be the best way to do it.

We are a small eiting studio with an early 2008 MacPro (maxed out on ram) with a 4 Port SATA card, 2 27" 2013 iMac's, and we will be purchasing a new MACPRO once they're released. We work with Final Cut X primarily and would like to create a server solution to share media assets between the computers as well as insure our media assets are protected. Ultimately we see us moving toward an LTO tape backup solution for projects and we currently use the Acera 8 slot 32tb Raid for media storage. We use .DMG's to organize projects and we've had success networking the MacPro to one of the 27" iMac's and we can effectively mount projects off of the RAID on to both computers as long as the .DMG for that project isn't mounted on both computers. However we can really only run background processing (like rendering or inputing video) we can't really edit as it appears even with a CAT6 capabled connecting the two still isn't enough to be able to edit.
Ideally when the new macpro comes out we would like to explore the ability of turning the 2008 MacPro into our server and buy an attached storage solution but I'm unsure if this will work, what we would need to do to make it work efficiently (read fast), and what my limitations might be. Is it as easy as installing a new PCI 4port 1gigE card in the back and connecting our 2 27" Imacs and the to be purchased new MACPRO to that and insalling OS X Server?
Most of our projects are recurring and ongoing and require us to share our extensive library of live performances as well as insure its availibilty all the time without having to install the RAID set associated with those projects. We have about 80tb's of video we'd like to keep accessible.
Any help is appreciated and I would be glad to fill in any blanks if I left any.
Lastly, I might add that I'm not a fan of onebox solutions from the vendors, I believe that Apple has the products I need to do what I'm talking about and most 3rd party one-box solutions end up out-moded with in years of purchase.

Gigabit Ethernet can be limiting for large file transfers, which usually segues into either 10 GbE NICs and/or (less desirably) link aggregation and/or an Xsan configuration with Fibre Channel SAN storage, if you really needed the I/O speed and scale.
If you're serving large volumes of data and it's the the server-to-host Gigabit Ethernet link that is the limit (as differentiated from the RAID array or related I/O link as the bottleneck), then you're left to either or both 10 GbE NICs and FC HBAs, whether via Thunderbolt HBA adapter or via FC HBA in a PCIe slot. (Thunderbolt is not an option on any current Mac Pro or Mac Pro Server I'm aware of. That'd be PCIe. Conversely, recent iMac systems have Thunderbolt and no PCIe. And there's no Thunderbolt to 10 GbE NIC listed by Apple.)
Discussions of the new Mac Pro are premature, beyond the information Apple has posted. (But I'd probably also wait a month or three after release of any new hardware and software, in any event.)
