Ups transfer time needed for imac 27

I have been given the royal run around by Apple "Genius" employees and lied to by Staples techs.
Can anyone tell me the proper UPS to use for an iMac 27? And please give me the reason why.
I would greatly appreciate the help.

I have been performing my due diligence for 2 days. Without due diligence, I would not have discovered that iMacs have different power shut down times than other units. It IS Apples duty to inform me of the amount of time in which the computer takes to detect a no power event. Apple Senior Tech Joe advised me that any UPS which provides a transfer time under 1 second will work appropriately for the iMac 27. Due diligence also uncovered the fact that APC does not include transfer times in all of its documentation for each UPS unit. It takes emails to very skilled APC techs to get to the proper answers in that respect. Thanks for your input.

usually it is very hard to estimate a proper time.
There are some hints to get a rough feeling (SAP note 857081 and [SMP link|http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000380759&_OBJECT=011000358700001279022010E] ).
However please note that SAP highly recommends to do a Sandbox conversion - otherwise there is a high risk that the PRD conversion will take (much) longer than expected.

All that said, Norton & MacKeeper (not to be confused with the MacDefender malware) do not have great reputations (for different reasons) & probably should not be serious contenders for anyone considering an AV app for their Mac. ClamXav is the most often recommended one, & as MadMacs0 mentioned, you might want to consider the newest full 2.0 version (not the app store one) if you want background scanning. It is not quite the same thing as say Sophos offers in that respect, & requires somewhat more effort to set up than Sophos' 'on access' scanner, but that's the point:
One size does not fit all, so be at least a bit leery of the advice of anyone that says otherwise.

How big a hard drive do I need for iMac and Time Machine?

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere already. I am going to buy an iMac, probably the new 24" with a 320G internal HDD. I already have one Lacie external 320G HDD so I was wondering whether I can use this for Time Machine backups, or do I need to buy a bigger one? If so, how big? Is there a rule of thumb for working out how much hard drive space you need to have for Time Machine, for instance if I were to buy the 500G iMac what would I need?

I agree with the "double the size" rule of thumb. You should also consider how much of the 320GB you are actually using and are likely to use in the next year or two. After all, it's the amount of storage you use that matters, not the size of the disk. Disks will very likely be cheaper soon. You should also keep in mind that TM deletes old archive data when it runs out of disk space. So as long as you have more disk space than you have data to back up, TM will work, though you will lose older versions of your data.
So if your 320GB drive only has 100GB used and you're not the kind of person who eats up disk like there's no tomorrow, the 320GB drive should be fine for now. If you expect that 320GB disk to be full soon then a 750GB TM disk is more like what you need.
The same logic applies to a 500GB iMac. If you only expect to use 250GB in the next year or two then a 500GB TM disk should be OK. A 1TB drive will be a lot cheaper next year or the year after.

Face Time App For iMac

I just purchased the Face Time app for my iMac but it never opens. All I get is a message saying there was an internal eror and I need to close and reopen, but it never opens, it just repeats the essage. Please advise. Thanks.

Oracle is only shutdown at a system shutdown if you configure shutdown scripts to do so.
Depending on the OS you have these scripts must be placed somewhere in /etc/rc?.d or /sbin/rc?.d
It is ofcourse depending on the shutdown type, and the amount of running session.
Shutdown normal will wait until all users have disconnected
Shutdown immediate will wait until all users have ended their running statement
Shutdown transactional will wit for users to and an active transaction
Shutdown abort will not wait, but leave the database in a to-be recovered state.
Shutdown abort should only be used in case all other shutdown commands do not work, or there has been some kind of error leaving some database processes running.

Time needed for automated data transfer - hypothetic

An EBS client with interest in maintaining integration in their large customer base backoffice and with CRMOD has had past challenges in terms of the overall size of the data they wish to integration and the time it takes to do so. As such, the client wishes to understand from a data size (X GIGS) and time (how much time) it might take to for instance synchronize their data. Since they would not quantify their data size, I can only ask... how much data be moved and how fast. This is urgent. Any experienced help here using strategies such as batch integration leveraging web services, cast iron systems or PIP is of help here!

Yep, although that assumes you have multiple files (for which it can work very well).
For a single large file, a variation of what Milan described, is using a utility that can slice and dice (and reassemble) a single file across multiple TCP flows.

Yep, again, and such products can even "transfer" faster than the line rate. The latter is possible because they generally compress in-line and also use local caching (negating the need to send some data). One of their issues, their transfer rates can be very variable and inconsistent.

UPS Battery Back Up for iMac--Advice on Purchase

I have an old APC Back-UPS ES 725 that has served me well. It has started to fail in that it is not holding a charge (at times) and has alarmed a few times for no apparent reason. It is old enough that I don't want to trouble shoot it by replacing the battery or trying other things. Right now it is disconnected and in this downtime I have experienced two brief line power outages that have shutdown my iMac. The iMac is fine, so far, but it is time to get another UPS.
APC's website and reviews of their products still leave my as confused as I was when I bought my old UPS 8 or 9 years ago. But I think I've narrowed it down to either an APC Back-UPS 750 or a little more expensive APC Back-UPS Pro 1000. The 750 has a flat profile and the 1000 has a more vertical profile. I think the 1000 will allow more run time on the battery. The 1000 has a display that may make it a little easier to use than the 750. They both would have enough wattage for my needs as far as I know. I just can't really determine what the major differences are betweeen these two from the descriptions. I don't want to buy more than I need but would spring for the 1000 if it has more to offer.
Any thoughts on the differences between these two. I think they both provide a stepped sine wave and I don't think I need the more expensive pure sine, or do I?

The APC Back-UPS 750 will be more than adequate for an iMac plus a backup hard disk drive. You did not indicate which model iMac you have but the small one should run for over 30 minutes on the UPS alone, the larger one about 20 minutes, more than enough time to conduct an orderly shutdown.
Do not install any software, just plug in its USB cable. OS X already includes software that will monitor the APC UPS's state of charge and can be configured to shut down the Mac using parameters that you configure.
Cyberpower is another manufacturer worthy of consideration.
A pure sine wave UPS is not necessary.

Hard Drive for Time Machine for iMac with AirPort Extreme??

I just switched back to Mac after too many years with a PC. I bought an iMac 24" 2.8GHz with 4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM and 750GB Serial ATA Drive.
I'm planning on adding an external hard drive for Time Machine to attach to my AirPort Extreme. From reading information posted on the Apple site and my AEBS I understand that it needs to be connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme.
While I may be opening up a technological "can of worms," I'd like to know what will be the most dependable drive 1TB, USB 2.0 that I can buy. Noise and bright lights are not a consideration here. I just want a drive that I can depend on to work with Time Machine. The "original" data will be stored elsewhere. I've heard of, read about and experienced so many hard drive failures that I'm getting "gun shy" about this subject. Please feel free to let me know what's good and bad. Thanks.

There is no best, you have to assess in addition to the Mac what else will be plugged into it and what other needs you may have. For brands I'd recommend APC, you can visit there website and they can help you choose one that comes closest to fitting your needs.

D/A converter needed for Imac to TV?

I want to watch my FCE timeline or canvass on a TV while editing so I can see if I have the color corrected appropriately. I do not have a camera or a deck. I import my film from an external hard drive on which I have old home movies from the 50s and 60s digitized so I can edit in FCE.
Can anyone tell me how to set up in a chain a D/A converter and a TV with my Imac? What kind of a D/A converter should I purchase?
I have looked a lot on this forum and don't really understand what I should do. I am not a professional at all. The technical language I read is almost impossible for me to understand.
Can someone tell me in layman's language what i should do. I would appreciate any help.

A D/A converter is a box that you must connect on one side to a firewire port of your Mac (with a firewire cable) and on the other side to your TV with an analogue cable, usually with 3 different "RCA" plugs: yellow for video and red and black (or white) for audio.
After connection and a proper setup of the converter, when you play your timeline in FCE (or Print to Video) the video and audio are directed to the TV through: firewire cable -> D/A converter -> analogue cable -> TV, and you can check the final result of your editing: colors, but also possible effects of interlacing on your video, and so on.
I use my camcorder as a D/A converter (and A/D as well), and I don't need a specific box. So, while I know some converters exist at prices around couple hundred dollars, I cannot give you specific suggestions about which might be good for you.

Could any of u give me an estimate as to how long does the average configuration of Compensation management take place considering the fact that OM,PA and Benefits are already up and running, and Merit Increase to the staff would be the only functionality being implemented in configuration ?
Please let me know a range which is practical if just one person( or max two) is working on configurin in R/3

If u r PA, OM and PY are up and running. I think it will take max of 10 days time for compensation management (Base line config). For this Basically u need to have Matrix, Elgibility and Guideliness.

Additional RAM needed for iMac G4 1.25 GHz

My iMac currently has 256 DDR SDRAM installed. I can't install Adobe Creative Suite as it needs 384 RAM.
My question, do I have to match the 256 in the empty slot on my machine, or can I get more RAM?
I assume also that I have another slot for more memory.

Undo four screws and you get to the User Slot. Undo a further 4 screws and you get to the Factory slot. It's not nearly as friendly to get to the factory slot but still very do-able. The iMac G4 20" takes up to 2Gb so you could put a 1Gb DIMM PC2700 184pin in the factory slot and 1Gb SODIMM PC2700 200pin in the User slot.If you open the case you must replace the thermal paste when you clsoe it up to prevent overheating.
Here are the instructions.
I fold a blanket and put it on a table then place the screen carefully on that and then use a foam keyboard wrist rest to brace the dome whilst I undo screws.

HELP: AVCHD Log & Transfer idle problem for iMac 27"

I just bought an Apple iMac 27" but I cannot do a Log & Transfer.
I used the same SDHC card that I log & transfer succesfully in the old 24" iMac.
But when I did a Log & Transfer in the new 27" iMac, I got into this:
1) FCE4 can detect the card & show all the thumbnails without problem.
2) When I drag a clip into the bottom or click add to queue, it says transferring clip#6 .... but the progress bar didn't move ...
3) after a while, it says 1 clip idle ....
what happen ? how come the clip#6 cannot be imported ? I tried all the clips, but faced with the same problem, it ended up says idle but nothing was transferred to the browser !!
Any ideas ?

ok guys,
problem resolved by doing this:
1) right click on the clip
2) goto preference after right clicking on the clip
3) Under AVCHD plugin > AC-3 > Plain Sound
I dunno why it works but after changing from the default Matrix Sound to Plain Sound, it can import so fast ! This new iMac 27" is so much faster than my old 24" iMac ...
If Matrix sound doesn't work why is it there in the first place ?

I'm using 'BAPI_PROCORD_COMPLETE_TECH', i want to know how much time does it take for the database to commit the work so I can declare is in wait up to...
Example:

WAIT UP TO 30 SECONDS.

You can remove the and wait command.
As long as you're using a SAP standard FM to process database there usually is a commit command that could already be found inside the FM it self. Plus the wait command will do the wait for you.
As for the time as soon as the command of the FM is called yuo can check the value in the database. Your update should already be available provided that your data values are correct.
