  • I need a DVD player software for my computer...

I had the working DVD player software for my Powerbook G4 installed, and somehow it got deleted, and now will not play any DVD's. I don't have any of the starter discs that came with the computer and dont know anyone who has another mac like mine, that uses OS X 10.3.9
Where can I download the application that I lost that will work?

it was confusing at first, but it worked perfectly. thank you!

  • Field Order for Upscaling DVD player

I have a edited HDV project that I have output to DV using the following settings:
    Video Compressor - DV NTSC
    Field Order: Lower Field First
When I play this on a standard DVD player everything looks fine. The field order looks correct and the object edges look smooth.
However when I play the same DVD in an Upscaling DVD player on an HD TV (720p) there is a "comb effect" around the edges of objects.
I would like the video to play well on both types of setups (non-scaling and upscaling)
What am I doing wrong? What encoder should I be using to get the correct output on both upscaling players and standard?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    >What am I doing wrong?
Downscaling HDV and then upscaling it again for HDTV. Best not to do that and just leave the video HD all the way for HD display.
Get a Blu-ray player is my advice.

  • DVD player software problem

    Hi
I have an imac G5 and I am having problems with my DVD player software - previously it had been working OK. When I try and play a DVD it starts slowly with no sound and then stops after about 10 seconds. I have tried trashing the DVD player preferences and rebooting without success. I have also deleted and reinstalled the DVD player software from the OSX install discs using Pacifist but the result is the same. It does not appear to be a problem with the DVD drive as I can play the same DVDs on the computer using VLC software. I have checked for bad RAM using Memtest but it seems OK. Any thoughts? Is it a strange interaction between the DVD player software and the drive?

Hi Roger and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
    Try cleaning the disks.
If your movie stops and you see a disk error message, check the surface of the DVD for dust or scratches. You may need to clean the disc or the optical drive. Debris or residue may disrupt video quality or cause the movie to skip or stop playing. How to clean and handle CD or DVD disks
A movie will stop playing if there is a problem sending digital data to your digital audio equipment. For example, if you are using a USB or FireWire S/PDIF converter and it becomes disconnected from your audio device, then the video stops.
Make sure your digital audio devices are properly connected and turned on. If the video doesn't begin playing again, click the Stop button on the DVD Player Controller, then click Play again to start playing.
If you need to switch to System Sound Output, click the Stop button on the Controller, choose DVD Player > Preferences, and click Disc Setup. Then choose System Sound Output from the "Audio output" pop-up menu.

  • What region is my DVD player on my iMac set to as default?

Canb onyone tell me what region my DVD player on my iMac (Intel) is defaulted to? I'm trying to work out whether some movies that I have are region 2 or not and all of my other DVD players are multi-region.

Canb onyone tell me what region my DVD player on my iMac (Intel) is defaulted to?
The DVD player on your iMac does not have a region code initially; it gets one the first time you insert a region-encoded DVD into the drive, and will prompt you for confirmation before any additional region changes are made. If you want to check on the first change, create a non-admin account in the Accounts pane of System Preferences if you don't have one already, and insert the DVD while logged into that account.
Region X is what you need
The link to this software on MacUpdate doesn't work, and the current version may not be available for download anywhere.

  • Where has my DVD Player Software gone

    Folks, little trouble:
A few months ago, I bought this new MacBook Pro (2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo). The biggest change that I noted, compared to my old G4 Powerbook: My DVD Player Software is GONE.
Ok, it's not that much trouble, I use the VLC to open my dvds, but I'm still wondering: What has happened. When I try to download the dvd player software from the apple support page, the installer says that the programme cannot be installed, because there's already a newer version. But believe me, there isn't.
The hints from the help-application of os x didn't really give me a clou...

The DVD Player should be in your Application Folder?
Go to: "Apple / System Preferences / CDs & DVDs" you see the 5 "When you insert a." Go to the last one "When you insert a video DVD" and select "Open DVD Player" then insert a DVD to see if DVD player opens.
If you do a Spotlight search for DVD Player, you should see it as:
    Top Hit (DVD Player)
    Application (DVD Player)
    System Preference (CDs & DVDs)
    Doc (com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist)
    1 or 2 Images (com.apple.DVDPlayer.tiff)
If you park the mouse pointer on each one you will see the path to it and it's location. Maybe you moved the Doc .plist or Image .tiff? Let us know what you find?
Also a good idea to repair disk permissions, look half way down this article:

I bought the external DVD player/burner for my Macbook.  I tried using it with my Dell laptop but it will not work.  Is it not configured to work with anything but apple operating systems?

If you purchased the Apple USB SuperDrive, it will only work with select Apple devices. It won't work, for example, on my Late 2011 model that has a SuperDrive built-in, but it will work with an Air, Retina model, new 'drive-less' iMacs, etc.
As far as I know, though, you can only hack the drive to work with some other Apple devices, but not with Windows PCs. Which is a shame as other, less expensive DVD/CD devices will work with just about any machine.

  • 10.4.4 won't install due to non-existant DVD Player software?

    Hello all,
The 10.4.4 update fails on my machine with the following message:
There were errors installing the software.
    Please try installing again.
The installer log shows the following error.
BomFileError 28: No space left on device - ///Applications/DVD Player.app/Contents/MacOS/DVD Player
This is a bit odd as my machine only has a CD-RW and the DVD Player software is not installed.
I have repaired disk permissions, restarted in Safe mode with no more success with installing.
I also attempted in install the DVD Player software, but that gave me the error message that my machine does not have any supported DVD hardware.
    Any ideas?
    G4 733Mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   CD-RW

    Hello, thanks for the reply.
The error message implies to me that the device to
which you were installing Mac OS X had insufficient
    space for the installation.
How much free space do you, in fact, have on that
    device?
42.79 Gb. So I don't think that is the problem.
    Your message is confusing.
A CD-RW drive is capable of playing DVDs.
However, it cannot burn to blank DVDs.
A Combo drive can read DVD, but a standard CD-RW can't. This one certainly doesn't read them.
Is your CD-RW drive the one that came with your G4,
or is it a third-party model that you added?
The one that came with it.
What makes you think that DVD Player is not
    installed?
It should be in the Applications folder.
It's not in the Applications folder. I'm pretty sure the MAC OS installer only installs the DVD Player software if it detects a DVD-ROM drive. I could be wrong. I'm pretty sure I didn't manually delete it.

  • It is should be installed an antivirus software for iMac product?

    Hi dear Apple..
I would like to ask about an antivirus software for iMac product. It is should be installed for virus protection, for example Kaspersky Antivirus?
    Thanks..

OS X versions 10.6.7 and later have built-in detection of known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware.
The most effective defense against malware is your own intelligence. All known malware on the Internet that affects a fully-updated installation of OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of trojans, which can only work if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. How do you know a source is untrustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown site, merely in order to use the site, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim.
“Cracked” copies of commercial software downloaded from a bittorrent are likely to be infected.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. No intermediary is acceptable.
Disable Java (not JavaScript) in your web browser(s). Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This setting is mandatory in OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, because Java in those versions has bugs that make it unsafe to use on the Internet. Those bugs will probably never be fixed, because those older operating systems are no longer being maintained by Apple. Upgrade to a newer version of OS X as soon as you can.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use the free software ClamXav — nothing else.

  • What is the best DVD-ripping software for mac?

what is the best DVD-ripping software for mac?

Handbrake to copy to avi or mp4(I use it for watching my DVD's on the go, so my battery lasts for a longer time)
I think MP4 is better quallity.
To copy a DVD: simply use Toast (maybe withe popcorn, but I don't use it).
But, be legal! This is a forum, and anyone can see your posts!

  • Question about multizone DVD player plugged to iMac ?

I want to buy a multizone DVD player to plug to my french iMac. How will it react to NTSC signal ? In short, does the monitor play NTSC/PAL ?

    Hi-
Please clarify- exactly how do you intend to connect your "multizone DVD player" to your iMac?
Is it a USB device, or something else? Are you using a TV tuner card, like an elgato, or something else?
You are aware that generally speaking that it is not possible to connect a DVD player to your iMac as if the iMac is a TV, right?
The only way you can connect a device like a DVD to an iMac directly is if you have one of the new 27 inch iMacs, and you make a connection with the mini display port.
Any other iMac will require either some sort of USB connection (assuming that the DVD device is just a DVD drive, and not a dedicated player), or an Analog/Digital converter of some sort, like a TV tuner USB device, etc.

  • IDVD movie plays on DVD player not on imac

Have burnt DVD using iDVD plays fine on DVD player but not iMac that created it. Shows movie as VLC files

    Hi
If it follow DVD Standard - as it use to be when created in iDVD. You see at least two folders on the DVD
    - VIDEO_TS
    - AUDIO_TS (empty and must be so)
Then the usual origin to this problem are:
    - Brand of DVD used (Many Cheap brands DO NOT WORK as Video-DVDs) - I only use Verbatim
    - BURN SPEED - If this is not set down there are LOT's of Burn Errors - Many stand alone DVD-Players can handle this but the Mac is very picky - I always set this down as slow possibly (x2 most often ev. x4 NEVER HIGHER)
