URG HELP: OAS 4.0.8.1 on Linux ?

We want to move from solaris to Linux in order to cut costs on hardware (and licences) and I have a couple of questions.
There is not much about whcih versions of linux are supported etc on oracle site. Do we need the Oracle 8i enterprise Red Hat version or the regular Red Hat version will suffice ?
Which version is needed ?
Is there Oracle for Linux and/or OAS for Linux online doc on the internet ? Like installation guides, etc ?
Thanks

I get this when executing either from the node manager (graphically) or at the command line.

  • OAS 4.0.8.1 for Linux: wrksf goes down

After having installed the OAS 4.0.8.1 for
Linux, I have a problem getting it to work.
I use the OAS Manager to start the following
    four processes :
    oassrv "Oracle Application Server"
    wrksf "Cartridge Server Factory"
    otsfacsrv "Transaction Server Factory"
    orb "ORB Servers"
The four processes come up, but after a
minute or so the 'wrksf' process goes
    down.
    After restarting the wrksf in
command line mode (using the owsctl utility)
the same occurs: it stays up for about a
minute or so, and then goes down.
The log files don't show any error messages.
Does anybody have a clue in which direction
    I should search ?
Can any tracing be turned on ?

After I fixed some of the things I broke while searching for the wrksf failure, the PL/SQL Cartridge now works for me too. And, after failing to get the DB Browser to work by loading it into the SCOTT schema, I got it to work by loading it into SYS. (SCOTT can't see the DBA_* views so loading the DB Browser into the database failed.) I haven't tried any Java Servlets yet, but that's next on my list.
If you want to try my wrksf workaround, rather than using Christoph's, here's how you can do it.
    1. Backup liborb.so in the $ORACLE_HOME/orb/4.0/lib directory, just in case something goes wrong.
    2. Using a hex editor, such as emacs hexl-find-file or ghex, to edit liborb.so, find the string "/proc/stat".
    3. Change the directory, "/proc" to something like "/pfoo" and write the shared library file back to liborb.so. You now have the required modified liborb.so.
    4. Make the /pfoo directory and cp /proc/stat /pfoo.
    5. Edit /pfoo/stat and duplicate the first line, which should be the cpu line. This will let the metrics parser handle it. Make sure that /pfoo/stat has read access.
Of course, the values that the metrics code gets are now bogus, but that does not seem to be a fatal problem.
Hopefully somebody from Oracle is reading this and the real fix will be in the mail soon.

  • HELP : OAS 4.0 & Oracle Express on NT

    Hi,
I am trying to run the example Samples application in Oracle Express Web Agent User's guide on IE 5.0 web browser. I have installed Oracle Express 6.3 along with its Web agent component. After starting Oracle Express service & installing OAS 4.0 & starting all its services & HTTP listeners from its Administrator's applet, I try to open the first page of the Samples application(it has the title: Oracle Express Web Agent {Samples}) which is opened successfully but when I click on any of the two links on that page I get a page not found error. The OAS administration applet shows that all the services are running except the Web agent & Web agent RPC services which are shown as not running(red flags). How do you start the Web agent services ? Is configuration & set up for web agent easier on Solaris ?
Also I don't have access to "Oracle Express Web Products installation guide" as its link(http://technet.oracle.com/docs/products/exp_server/doc_index.htm) is broken. I don't know whether having this guide would make any difference. I am desperately trying to make the Web interface work without any success so far. Please let me know how to fix this problem.
    Thanks in advance,

    Check the following things:
    1. Express Server 6.3 is up and running.
    2. OAS 4.0 is installed in its own home directory.
    3. You have un-commented the correct html line in .../sample/index.html file. CGI or cartridge???
    4. You have moved oowa.cfg and oowa.exe in the OAS executable directory, and edited oowa.cfg with correct configuration.
Express Web Products installation guide explains all the steps for NT in detail.

I hav used midp2.0 and the CommConnection to communicate to the port!
Please reply urgently, any one with any knowledge in thes regard please contact me at [email protected] or on yahoo messenger ID indohuman!

I would recommend that you go on ni.com and search for 'serial'. Also, have a look at the Example Finder in LabVIEW; Help -> Find Examples. There is an entire directory that should help you understand how to design serial applications.

  • URG HELP PLEASE: Any doc on PARAM settings for WebForms ?

    Hi,
I'm trying to find any documentation on the available PARAM
values. For example, the Internet explorer syntax is:
    PARAM NAME="ServerPort" VALUE="9000"
For Netscape, one only specifies (for example: ServerPort=9000)
I've seen a LOT of different PARAM values in the threads here
(Example, SeparateFrame, LookAndFell, ColorsScheme, etc...) and
I am wondering WHERE ALL THOSE PARAMETERS are discussed in the

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
All parameters are discussed in the Oracle Developer Server
    online help. Here they are:
    codebase
    cartridge or non-cartridge
    required
Replace /forms_code/ with the virtual directory you defined to
point to the physical directory ORACLE_HOME\forms60\java\.
Note: If you created a codebase cartridge parameter, you do not
have to include codebase in your base HTML file.
    code
    cartridge or non-cartridge
    required
Do not remove or modify the code parameter unless you defined it
as a cartridge parameter. Its value should always be:
    oracle.forms.engine.Main
    serverPort
    cartridge or non-cartridge
    required
Replace 9000 with the number of the port on which the Forms
Server Listener process was started. In most cases, the port
number will remain 9000 (the default).
    serverArgs
    cartridge or non-cartridge
    required
Replace forms_param with any valid Form Builder command-line
parameter. Replace user_param with any valid user-defined
    parameter. For example, <param name="serverArgs"
    VALUE="module=order.fmx">
    Notes:
You can provide multiple Form Builder command-line and
    user-defined parameters.
You must provide a physical directory path for the .FMX file by
including a directory path in the HTML file or by defining the
FORMS60_PATH environment variable. The .FMX suffix is optional.
    serverHost
    cartridge or non-cartridge
    required
Required only if the Forms Server is not on the same machine as
    the Web server.
    archive
    cartridge or non-cartridge
    optional
Replace or add to /jars_vdir/f60web.jar to provide the virtual
directory path and filename of any JAR file you want to be
downloaded to end users' Web browsers at application startup.
    splashScreen
    cartridge or non-cartridge
    optional
Specifies the .GIF file that should appear before the applet
    appears.
    serverApp
    cartridge or non-cartridge
    optional
Replace default with the name of your application class (if
any). Use application classes for creating application-specific
font mapping and icon path settings.
    leastloadedhost
    cartridge only
    optional
During load balancing , this fixed-name place holder is replaced
dynamically by the cartridge with the name of the least-loaded
system. The cartridge gets this information from the Metrics
    Server at runtime.
    metricsDomainName
    cartridge only
    optional
Specifies the domain of your Metrics Client server machine. This
is a load balancing parameter that must be used with the
leastloadedhost parameter. In your HTML file the
metricsDomainName parameter must immediately follow the
    leastloadedhost parameter. For example,
    ARCHIVE="%leastloadedhost%%metricsDomainName%/f60webjar"
    clientDPI
    cartridge or non-cartridge
    optional
Specifies the dots per inch (DPI) and overrides the DPI setting
returned by the JVM, allowing you to manage varying DPI settings
per platform. For example, a form developed on the Win32 platform
may not display properly on the UNIX platform due to varying DPI
    values.
The clientDPI value can be any positive integer. Oracle
recommends that you use an integer between 50 and 200.
    <param name="clientDPI" value="200">
    separteFrame
    cartridge or non-cartridge
    optional
Determines whether the applet appears within the browser or the
Appletviewer. Legal values: True or False.
    lookAndFeel
    cartridge or non-cartridge
    optional
Determines the applications look-and-feel. Legal values: Oracle
    or Generic (Windows 95 look-and-feel).
    colorScheme
    cartridge or non-cartridge
    optional
Determines the application's color scheme. Legal values: Teal,
Brick, Indigo, Mustard, Pine, Plum, or Titanic.
Note: colorScheme is ignored if lookAndFeel is set to Generic.
    helpBookName
    cartridge or non-cartridge
    optional
Specifies the name of a help book.
    helpBookPath
    cartridge or non-cartridge
    optional
Specifies the help book URL, absolute or relative to the
    documents location.
    Hope this helps.

We had the same problem with the PL/SQL cartridge (OWS-04764 ...). We solved our problem with a new kernel. Its important that you have a kernel with symmetric multi-processing support (SMP) enabled, independent if you have a one or two processor machine.
I hope it will help you.

  • OAS 4.0.7 on SUSE Linux 6.1 gets very slow or hangs

    Hallo out there,
we installed OAS 407 on a SUSE Linux 6.1 system with ORACLE
Server 8.0.5.0.0. After long time solving installation problems,
we are now able to start OAS via the OAS-Manager html page.
And we are able to launch a simple PL/SQL-application, which
produces the output of a system table. Now, the thing is, that we
can start this application once or twice or maybe a few times
more but then the system hangs or gets very slow, so that only a
hard reboot of the server machine works.
We configured the NR_TASKS parameter in tasks.h to get ulimit to
512 for the user processes. System seemed to work better then,
but maybe only a little bit better.
We have also got problems with domain-names and node-names, which
sometimes are just machinename, then machinename.domainname, then
    again machinename.badister.(none) .
If there is anyone out there who has got the same problems or
    solved them, please tell me.

I have wasted a lot of time trying to get OAS 4.0.7 to run with
a 2.2 kernel... it doesn't work, even after you've fixed all the
problems like to ps command for example, the listeners hang. I
now have it working on a 2.0 kernel, which is reasonably stable,
although I have to do a reboot every few days!

  • Need help with running a Java program on Linux

I am trying to get a Java program to run on a Linux machine. The program is actually meant for a Mac computer. I want to see if someone with Java experience can help me determine what is causing the program to stall. I was successful in getting it installed on my Linux machine and to partially run.
The program is an interface to a database. I get the login screen to appear, but then once I enter my information and hit enter the rest of the program never shows, however, it does appear to connect in the background.
Here is the error when I launch the .jar file from the command screen:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: illegal component position
    at java.awt.Container.addImpl(Unknown Source)
    at java.awt.Container.add(Unknown Source)
I am not a programmer and I am hoping this will make some sense to someone. Any help in resolving this is greatly appreciated!

Well, without knowing a little bit about programming, and how to run your debugger, I don't think you're going to fix it. The IllegalArgumentException is saying that some call does not like what it's getting. So you'll have to go in an refactor at least that part of the code.

    a) Install Linux Mandrake and choose to install the Development Tools Set. After installation, deinstall rpm kaffe (java runtime).
    b) Do the preinstallation task for Oracle 8.1.7 as explained in the Installation Manual. Is not necesary to recompile the kernel.
    c) login with the oracle user for installation. Use Gnome for as your desktop (KDE doesn't work).

    Greetings,

    Who can help me?:(Alex,
I believe that happens because Tux 8.0 was done for RH 6.2 which uses a
different version of glibc. If you're running RH 7.2 you need to install
the compat62 packages. The RPMs should be on the install CDs or available
    from the RH site.
Once installed you need to set the appropriate environment variables as
    shown below:
    export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
export LDEMULATION=elf_i386_glibc21 # This is so that when genclntsh runs
    # ld, it first looks at
    usr/i386-glibc21-linux/lib
    # for libraries
    export GCC_EXEC_PREFIX=/usr/i386-glibc21-linux/lib/gcc-lib/
    # This is so that the gcc driver uses
    # the compatibility compiler
After this the installer should work just fine. The problem, i think, was
that the JVM that came in the installation archive was compiled with the
old libgc and would barf unless you're running in compatibility mode.
You'll need to set these environment vars. when running Tux as well.
    Hope this helps.

Now have downloaded mm.mysqljdbc driver(i.2c) and installed it,set the classpath in .bash_profile,sh file
Everything ,including Tomcat Apache server is running fine
But i am unable to connect a jsp page to mysql database.
A error message "server configuration denies access to datasource " is coming .
    My code is like this
    <%
    String username-"root"
    String password="sdctest"
    %>
    <% try
    class.forname("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver");
    java.sql.Connectioncon= java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/products"username,password);
    then opening recordset ....
Error is coming in the second line while establishing connection.
Here i would like to mention that username and password is the username and password of the root user in LInux.
Now i mm confused what username and password will have to be used in JSP.Because i did nt have to specify any username or password while entering mysql.
If my problem is clear, somebody please help...all jobs stuck.

Try doing it without the username and password, otherwise create a new user in MySQL.

  • Install OAS 10.1.2.0.2 Linux(opteron)

    Hi,
    one Question:
Is it possible to install an OAS 10.1.2.0.2 (Portal ..) under Red Hat on an Opteron-Server - I know, it's not certificated in 64bit-mode but in 32bit mode ....?
    Thanks
    Karl

    Answer in Metalink:
am looking at the Quick Installation Guide for iAS 10.1.2.0.2, page 12 the Note: "Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) is certified to run as a 32 bit application on the following Linux x86-64 platforms:
    * Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS/ES 3.0, Update 3 or higher (AMD64 and Intel EM64T)
    * SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (AMD64 and Intel EM64T)
If Opteron is AMD64, then the answer to your question is yes.
