Urgent: About Comps.xml - Patchset, Patches and Components details.

Hi,
In Comps.xml [in Oracle_Home\Inventory\ContentsXML folder] we have information about Patchsets, Patches and Components. According to my information
I. TL_List: It has a list of all the patchset installed.
But when I looked in Comps.xml TL_List, I found that it contain two nodes
II. one is COMP_NAME and second is PATCHSET NAME.
Can any one tell me which information is correct First one or second one?
null

I don't recall having seen a comps.xml in 8i installations (may be some other configuration can have it). In 8i, it was the .SER files under inventory/contents folder (I guess :-)).

  • Doubt about actions.xml with actions and roles

    Hi all,
we are using a file like actions.xml for use them in Web Dynpro applications describing actions like:
Is it possible to describe GROUPs assigning roles to them in the same XML instead of doing this using the useradmin application? We need to describe the roles in the XML because we are using around 25 ROLEs and 15 GROUPs.
We appreciate if you can show us the complete description with an example for defining those GROUPs in the XML with all the tags and properties neccesary.
    Thanks in advance.
    Raú

This feature is one of the hidden features SAP has for deploying stuff to NW. I'm sure there is a way for that, but its not documented, as the role extension is also not documented. I don't know why SAP is hidding this extremly useful features to normal developers. Especially for product development they are so usefull.
Did you know, that its possible to deploy database content (not just tables!) with a special DC and an XML file in a special format? Just another example of hidden features in SAP Netweaver.

  • Doubt about Rollup Patches and Family Packs

    Hi All,
What is the difference between Rollup patches and family packs? And also applying family packs will increase the codelvel? Please specify the naming convention of both the pacthes also.
    Thanks
    Rajasekar

Thanks Kashif M &Hussein for your valuable replies.I've read the links. As per the documennt in r12.
Product family release update pack (product family RUP)     An aggregation of patches on a given codeline created for all products in specific product family for a specific point release. For example, R12.FIN_PF.A.1.
Release update pack (RUP)     A cumulative aggregation of product family release update packs on a given codeline created across Oracle E-Business Suite after the initial release. For example, 12.1.1.
RUP in r12 is similar to family pack(11i) which will change the third digit (12.1.1 to 12.1.2).right?
Product family release update pack(family pack) with new features called rollup patch?
    (or)
About rollup patch I read in one apps dba blog
Rollup patces are usually fixes of all issues popped up because of a particular minipack/familypack or maintenance pack. Lets assume you applied a family pack & because of that some issue/bug came into picture or all bugs reported soon after family pack or maintenance pack are fixed and released as Roll Up patch . These are usually denoted as roll up 1 rollup 2 or roll up A roll up B.
So you will see maintenance pack 10 (11.5.10) roll up 1 or roll up2.
How can we identify the roll up level?
    Thanks

  • Slow macbook pro since the airport security patch and last OS update about a week ago..

Hi, my Macbook Pro has slowed down to a crawl on the internet since the airport security patch and OS update about 1 week ago.  I am using Firefox 3.6.17 and have tried all versions up to date (but 3.6.17 is the best).  Same issues with Safari too.  I am using an Airport wireless modem also so should not be any issues with compliance.  Local programs seem to run OK... but the internet is slow enough to grow a beard... Do they have a patch for this issue.  It only started after the updates.  Was blazing fast until that.

How large is your hard drive and how much hard drive space do you have left?
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.

  • About GUI's patch and compliation

Hi,Gurus. I have two questions about GUI's patch and compliation.
    1. what 's the difference of  compliation and patch?
    2. I downloaded the patch of GUI640 which named  gui640_30.exe, but there is a gui640_pdb_30.exe. How to
    use this pdb file?

You do not need to apply the PDB file. This is usually something you would apply when encountering an error that requires intervention by SAP support.
The only two files you generally update with the GUI are the standard update file (the first one you mention above) and the setup update file.
    Hope that helps.

  • Lync patching and versioning and KB2493736

I run and maintain a lot of Lync and OCS servers, and I have a significant gripe about patch management for the Lync server product.  The gripe is that we have had the same KB article since Lync 2010 CU1 for patching.
I come from an Exchange background, so I am used to the service pack (SP) and rollup (RU) release system.
Here is the current CU5 lync KB article
    #2493736
Now, MS is pretty good at updating their site, so if you search CU4 on their site, you find this same KB and end up with whatever the current CU is.
    Here's a
blog highlighting CU4 was out, same KB there.
    Here's a
Technet post announcing CU3 release, same KB there.
Here's another blog announcing the CU2 release, same KB.
    Here's
another blog, announcing CU1, same KB.
In addition to this, there have been several times that I have seen a blog posting that CU5 was out, I downloaded and patched, and a week later I redownloaded it and found the LyncServerUpdater.exe was a different size and some components had released newer
    versions.
This presents a lot of difficulties in a few situations for me and other admins:
When we are patching, many times I have staged my update downloads a few days before and found that the day or week of my patching that there had been more recent updates.
Someone who downloaded Lync Server CU5 updates a month ago is running an older version than someone who downloaded Lync Server CU5 updates today.  Granted, I know the KB article shows a different "last modified" that you can key on, but generally speaking
this seems pretty non-standard for MS for release notification.
In any lab testing environments, it makes configuring to a certain patch level a lot more difficult.  To patch to a CU3 environment, I would need to download each individual msp component individually.  In Exchange, I would download the SP, then
the matching RU and be done.  And all of those historical patch bits are readily available in an executable bundle.
And one more thing - I know you have a Lync
team blog..  I have been subscribed for a year and 3 posts.  How about a post when you drop an update so we have a more official notification then a last modified on a KB article as a way to find out?
Right now, we rely have relied on third party bloggers for over a year - thanks to all you community members who do this!
Anyone else noticed or taken issue with this?  I searched and didn't see much, but it has burned me a lot.
Below - LyncServerUpdateInstaller, both "CU5" with different dates and sizes and versions.  (.190 and .197 respectively)

  • Comps.xml in Oracle 8i inventory on Windows systems

"comps.xml" file listing the Oracle installed components along with their details is usually found in the Oracle inventory directory (%ORACLE_HOME%\Inventory\ContentsXML\comps.xml). But I noticed on a few Oracle 8i database installations that the file is missing.
Is this file not part of the Oracle 8i inventory or has a different name?
Note: This file is present on Oracle 9i and 10g database installations.

  • OS and DB Security patches and updates

    Dear Experts,
We are going through SOX audits. Auditor is asking me about applied latest OS and Oracle patches to secure SAP systems from threats and attacks.
I told them that we are running on Solaris 9 with Oracle 9.2.0.5
and our severs are behind CHECKPOINT Firewall, and also we have never faced any security breaches and threats and also not facing any performance and efficiency problems in our system.
However, they still persist me about critical security patches for Solaris and Oracle.
Please tell me should I go for applying security patches of Solaris or Oracle if any. I am very worried about possible problems after applying of those security patches.
Please guide me about this issue and tell me about proven and trusted security patches for Solaris 9 and Oracle 9.2.0.5
    Best Regards
    Waqas Ahmad

    > I told them that we are running on Solaris 9 with Oracle 9.2.0.5
First I would like to tell you that your current Oracle version is out of extended support (see SAP on Oracle and the notes the first chapter points to). To get actual (security) patches I would highly recommend upgrading to 10.2.0.4.
    > However, they still persist me about critical security patches for Solaris and Oracle.
They do that because most of the "attacks" to server come from internal users, not from external.
    > Please guide me about this issue and tell me about proven and trusted security patches for Solaris 9 and Oracle 9.2.0.5
For the operating system I would use pca (Patch Check Advanced) - a free too to download and install patches - works like charm (http://www.par.univie.ac.at/solaris/pca/). It can be configured to only download and install security relevant patches.
For Oracle you should install the latest patchset (for 9.2 it's 9.2.0.8 and all the necessary interim patches) and the critical patch updates. However, those CPUs may conflict with necessary other patches so you can either use CPU or the necessary interim patches.
Check note 938986 - Oracle Database 9.2: Patches for 9.2.0

  • Patching and backup process advice

    Hello all ,
I have solaris 8 and I had a few questions about patching and backup.
    1. Monthly I download the Sun 'Recommended and Security patchset", I then unzip and run patch_add.
When I review the terminal output while this is running I get quite a few :"unable to install patch exit code 8".
    Should I be getting this?
Is there another way of applying patches(other than individually)?
    2. What are good backup practices? Copy /etc and /var directories to a raid? Or is there a Sun tool for backups?
    Thanks for any advice!

I believe this is a list of exit codes for patches. You'll most likely see a lot of return code 8 and 2. Not typically an issue.
    # Exit Codes:
    # 0 No error
    # 1 Usage error
    # 2 Attempt to apply a patch that's already been applied
    # 3 Effective UID is not root
    # 4 Attempt to save original files failed
    # 5 pkgadd failed
    # 6 Patch is obsoleted
    # 7 Invalid package directory
    # 8 Attempting to patch a package that is not installed
    # 9 Cannot access /usr/sbin/pkgadd (client problem)
    # 10 Package validation errors
    # 11 Error adding patch to root template
    # 12 Patch script terminated due to signal
    # 13 Symbolic link included in patch
    # 14 NOT USED
    # 15 The prepatch script had a return code other than 0.
    # 16 The postpatch script had a return code other than 0.
    # 17 Mismatch of the -d option between a previous patch
    # install and the current one.
    # 18 Not enough space in the file systems that are targets
    # of the patch.
    # 19 $SOFTINFO/INST_RELEASE file not found
    # 20 A direct instance patch was required but not found
    # 21 The required patches have not been installed on the manager
    # 22 A progressive instance patch was required but not found
    # 23 A restricted patch is already applied to the package
    # 24 An incompatible patch is applied
    # 25 A required patch is not applied
    # 26 The user specified backout data can't be found
    # 27 The relative directory supplied can't be found
    # 28 A pkginfo file is corrupt or missing
    # 29 Bad patch ID format
    # 30 Dryrun failure(s)
    # 31 Path given for -C option is invalid
    # 32 Must be running Solaris 2.6 or greater
    # 33 Bad formatted patch file or patch file not found
    # 34 The appropriate kernel jumbo patch needs to be installed
Back up your system before adding any patches (ufsdump). It's recommended that these patches are added in run level one.
There should be a script called something like "install_cluster" command in the 8_Recommended directory that you can use to add the patches.
By default the patches create backout info in /var, but I usually disable this (yeah, livin' on the edge) with the "-nosave" option.

  • PREEMPT_RT patch and Arch

    Hello All,
I'm wondering if anyone has toyed around with the PREEMPT_RT patch using the Arch concept to simplify the processes to accommodate non-critical motion control across wireless or local area networks as a server for applications such as security cameras, thresholds, landscape automation, environmental controls, etc. There are also several commercial applications that might be reasonably run through the hybrid RT capabilities of a adapted timer and a preempted Linux kernel with an ultra-lean Arch config.
I'm a newbie and interested in finding out what I don't know before I throw a bunch of time at a flawed concept. I've been linux lurking for quite a while hoping to find a really lean operating system and overhead that retains the dual characteristics of general motion control and networking. These could be used in any number of closed loop commutation and synchronization schemes to afford relatively accurate positioning at long distances and communicate the result.
Obviously this could be accomplished with enough money to buy gear and canned (black box) applications but the cost of repetitive installation pales even the bravest entrepreneur. So, the search continues.
Is there any inherent reason that Arch and the RT patched kernel won't work together? Most of the pengutronic stuff I've been reading is a little dated. Admittedly, I may have just outed my lengthy lurk in a spasm of sheer excitement that this may be the one. But I thought I might just simply ask before I work my way to another dead end.
    Anyone?

Let me say up front...    personally I have no idea. You could always simply try it and see if it works!
That said, my reason for posting is to say, you might get better traffic on this question in another part of the forum, since this has very little to do with differing architectures. Your best bet might actually be the Networking, Server, and Protection area since your basically talking about setting up a server designed to control security cameras, or the Kernel & Hardware Issues area, since you are asking specifically about a kernel patch.
I got curious and googled the patch you're talking about...   I am fairly sure it should work for Arch, since it seems to be very distro agnostic.
I am curious about why you feel the rt patch would help with motion control over a network...   it is aimed at working with microsecond timings, than longer term workloads. RT is only really useful (right now) for really short units of work in response to real time events. Basically, if you want to hit a bug's wing that was spotted on a camera with a high powered, very narrow focused laser, then an RT kernel might help you. An RT kernel is aimed at starting up responses really fast. Unless you are responding to something captured by the cameras, and less than a tenth of a millisecond is necessary to that response, a normal "real-fast" kernel might be a better idea.
    http://www.rdrop.com/users/paulmck/real … 06.22a.pdf
There is a link to a white paper about the RT-Kernel and the Preempt_RT patch set. It's 9 PDF pages, but if you want to just skim it, the summery has a nice decision tree to help make the choice between real-time patch and the vanilla "real fast" kernel.
The RT-patchset might actually be more work than strictly needed for the concept you're working on.
It seems to me, and I am far from a Guru or an expert, that what you are hunting for is a motion capture application that can easily be network controlled and is open-source. You need a low overhead OS to give all of the system resources to the motion capturing program. Arch is good for low overhead, and there is the package zoneminder in the AUR (Also with the zmviewer-svn that adds a client capacity to the suite, meaning you can look at/control them from another computer).
You may want to look at Linux-From-Scratch to make an absolutely basic system on the hardware you wish to use for this enterprise. You can strip out all of the unneeded drivers from the kernel, locales, manpages, build tools, and all of the other cruft that is needed by the average install of any Linux OS meant to run on diverse groups of hardware.
By the way, the Linux-From-Scratch would allow you to custom compile and thoroughly test each update before sending them out as binaries to your customers, as well as allowing you to do complete upgrades rather than piecemeal updates to each program on the system as they come available. (Business like the set time table for releases because of the lower amount of downtime for the critical systems.)

  • Any one have issues w/ XML publisher Administrator and OPP???

We recently used the administrator to create font definitions for templates, once we did that the OPP process kept failing when we would run any of the reports that automatically pick up the template assigned to that report. Invoices for instance…
However, running the XML Report Publisher and supplying the request ID, Template, etc etc etc... Would work just fine.
I'm wondering if there is any correlation between the 2? I would just remove the font definition, but I think that is they way you have to do it w/ version 5.6.1, adding the font via the custom properties tab didn't work out.
I've logged a tar on the issue... but as TAR's go... it's going slow like tar.
Wondered if anyone else had any info?

Well... in case you ever do run into this... the OPP log file will have a null point error in it.
And applying Patch #5024026 should/will fix the problem.
