Urgent - Adobe Reader 6.0 rendered inoperable after download of 6.0.1

ME Window system
Home PC: 7.83 GBs capacity: 3.90 GBs used; 3.92 GBs free
Adobe Reader 6.0 was opening up files and transfering files on drives until the 6.0.1 update download 5 days ago corrupted the Reader.
Problem:
1. The following screen opens when attempting to both open a pdf file and to remove the 6.0.1 [to download anew]:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."
2. When attempting to install 6.0.1 again this a m, a repetion of a 2nd screen seen before showed up:
"error 1408 - Could not get subkey names for key installer/products/
68AB67CA771473301B7440A0000000010"
I found no:
1. support/knowledgebase for error 1408
2. Adobe telephone support available
3. mention of my topic on the forum screen
Need solution fast. Work has come to a standstill.
r.

Sorry, we can't necessarily fix things urgently, but we can try and
help.
Never seen this before, but according to
http://www.appdeploy.com/msierrors/detail.asp?id=108, error 1408 means
what it says, and should include a system error code. If you see a
system error code, we could look that up and maybe get closer.
You say you get "This file does not have a program associated with it
for performing this action." when trying to REMOVE 6.0.1? Please
indicate step by step how you get to the point of this error when
trying to remove.

Can you try this next: navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader (if you have Reader XI installed), or C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader (Reader XI on 64-bit Windows), and double-click on Eula.exe, then accept the license agreement.

There are document which have not been adapted for mobile devices. In that case, use Adobe Acrobat or Reader on a Mac or Windows computer. Note: Reader 2 was released in the 1990s so this form may be a very old one.

  • Adobe Reader no longer Auto-Closes after printing

My company uses software that allows for users to reprint invoices they have previously made.  The way the procedure is supposed to work is: the driver clicks a re-print button, Adobe Reader opens up with the document, prints it, then closes.  Within the past couple of weeks however, everything is fine however Adobe Reader will not close out.  The PDF document itself closes, but the user is then brought to the main menu where they can open up another PDF.  The problem this is causing is that they cannot reprint other invoices until manually closing out of Adobe reader every time.  There have not been any updates made to the software they are using, or to Adobe Reader.  We have users on both Windows XP and 7, and have the issue with both Reader v10 and 11.
Any suggestions on how I might be able to get Adobe Reader to auto-close again?  I am also checking with the software vendor for their insight.

    Might be difficult to fix.

  • Urgent: Adobe Reader does not attach pdf-files to standard e-mail software any more!

    Hello,
    Situation:
    Windows XP Pro; SP3
    Office 97
    Thunderbird
    Adobe Acrobat Reader
When I want to attach a pdf-file directly from Adobe Reader to a new Thunderbird e-mail it starts ALL OF A SUDDEN the setup-assistant for Microsoft Exchange / Outlook! Why? I have no clue (:
It worked fine until 3 days ago.
Thunderbird is the standard e-mail software and it works for example fine if I click on an address in the internet. Thunderbird opens a new mail.
I tried to uninstall Adobe Reader and installed it again (restart computer / ccleaner) but this failure still occurs!
Does anybody know what to do please? It is really urgent because I need that function all the time... (:
By the way: I do not work with Outlook; it is not configured.
    Thank you very much!

    > ALL OF A SUDDEN...
What happened between when it worked correctly 3 days ago, and the time it stopped working as expected?
Check Control Panel | Internet Options | tab Programs; to what is the E-mail option set?
If it is already correctly showing Thunderbird, then try a System Restore to a date when it still worked correctly.

    Hi,
It could be a case of a corrupt installation which could be causing the crash.
Could you please follow, ʇɐb ɹəuəllıʍ suggestion, and uninstall the current installation of Adobe Reader 10.1.2 and restart if prompted for.
Try and install Reader 10.1.0 again (from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.0/zh_CN/AdbeRdr1010_zh_CN.msi).
Now update the same to 10.1.2 using the installer from http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.2/misc/AdbeRdr1012.msp
Try and launch Adobe Reader post the successful installation.
Do ensure not to launch the application during the updating process.
    Hopefully this should fix things.
    Thanks

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.10 - crashing after inserting multiple comments

I have not used comments much before in Adobe Reader. I have been using them heavily the past 2 days in a detailed review. I have been saving after every few comments, as Reader has closed unexpectedly many times. The PDF files are on a network share where I have full access. Also it will not save my default font settings for inserting a text comment, or my "favorite" stamps, or basically any settings that I customize. This is very frustrating as I need to change those every time after it crashes. And sometimes it will crash after a save with the same results.
    We're on Win7 SP1 32-bit, if that matters.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I did not find any similar posts about comments in Reader.

  • Adobe Reader X won't open after installing

I just downloaded and installed Adobe Reader X and when I try to open it or open a pdf I get the error message "AcroRd32.exe - Entry Point Not Found" "The procedure entry point WNetEnumCachedPasswords could not be located in the dynamic link library MPR.dll." I'm using Window XP service pack 3. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Reader X and rebooting my computer but I always get the same error message and nothing else. Does anyone have an idea what my problem is? I couldn't seem to find how to download Reader X without going through the Download manager. Thanks.

Thank you. That fixed the problem. My old mapi32.dll file was 628kb and dated 1/31/1996. After renaming it and running fixmapi.exe I had a new mapi32.dll file that was only 110kb and dated 8/23/2001. And Reader started right up after that. I never would have figured that out on my own.

  • Adobe Reader 7.1 "quits unexpectedly" after launching.

I've used Adobe Reader 7.0x with my OS 10.3.9 more or less happily for several years, but I recently downloaded Adobe Reader 7.1 (the download Adobe.com tells you to use for 10.3.x), mainly because I kept getting messages from Adobe telling me to. This seems to have been not a smart move.
I don't have Safari available right now, so I used Firefox (making sure that the add-on options included domains I needed, which Adobe.com tells you to do if you use Firefox for the download).
The installation seemed successful and I moved Adobe 7.1 to my Applications folder. However, if I click on a PDF file, Adobe Reader opens and opens the PDF doc, but after a few seconds Adobe closes and I get the message, "The Application Adobe Reader has unexpectedly quit. Do you want to send a report to Apple?" (No.)
I've tried downloading it again and downloading Adobe Reader 6, but nothing works. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really need Adobe Reader!

Another idea would be to start the computer from the OS X installer disc* and from
the Installer's menu bar, choose from a drop down menu, Disk Utility. And choose
to run the choice, "repair disk." This is not a permissions repair. This may find a
few problems in your system or on the hard disk drive itself; and try to repair them.
How full is the hard drive, in your computer? If the system is acting up, there is a cause.
A basic permissions repair is like a weekly or monthly thing; varies with use and what is
being done with the computer. If the drive is way full, the Mac will start acting up. And
system problems could result; and eventually hard disk drive failure. It needs free space
in the drive for the applications and system to function. (Activity Monitor in utility folder
could tell you several things; so can a single-click on the Mac HD icon and Get Info.)
If your computer has been running several years and never had an archive and install
or an all new system installed from scratch, maybe those steps are overdue. The
process can be approached from several different directions; to include saving your
entire computer hard disk drive's contents as a clone, (bootable volume) on an
external enclosed hard disk drive. Then use the booted Disk Utility from the system
installer disc (machine booted from installer disc, chosing DiskUtility and using the
    different tools in there to zero-data or low-level reformat and then format as HFS+;
then bring back the cloned system from the external hard disk drive, to the Mac.
Not that I recommend doing this right now, since there may be an easier way to
get the computer to see and use a download of Acrobat Reader. But, if you have
not done anything in the way of maintenance and so forth, you could save all your
own files off the computer to an external drive (and not clone) or put them on CDR
or DVDR media, and just wipe the computer's internal HDD. Having to reinstall all
the bits and the software sets you had, and upgrade the system is a small hassle.
That's why it is easier to learn how to make a clone, and try it. You never erase
the computer's drive content until you have a tested-good bootable clone of it first.
If you do think about cloning a hard disk drive, you could read about some of it
here; which is also where the Carbon Copy Cloner can be downloaded from:
http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html These things can save you from a
tech visit; at least until a hard disk drive goes bad (wears out) and even so, if
you make a backup of the computer's drive, you will have a bootable copy, too.
There also are some third party disk repair utilities for Mac (for an OSX version)
    which could check and repair, and some will also defragment a hard disk drive;
I prefer to make a clone to my FireWire external hard disk drive, and use a free
    or donationware clone software, Carbon Copy Cloner, a download and easily found;
and make a clone of my complete computer's drive contents, then do the drive
repairs with Disk Utility booting the Mac; then use CCC to move my clone back.
(*In order to start from a installer/boot disc, you have to hold C key down on start
with the disc in the optical drive tray/slot; or have the disc in place & then choose
from Startup Disk in the System Preference panel and have the machine boot from
the system install disc instead of its hard disk drive system. Click to highlight it.)

  • Adobe Reader XI fails to launch after Install (Solution)

Earlier this week (5/29), I upgraded to Adobe Reader XI on Windows 7, and I experienced complete failure of the application to launch. Reinstalls were attempted as well as the Adobe Reader cleaning tools, but those processes had no effect. After doing some digging, I found the following error entries in the Windows Event Viewer:
Faulting application name: Eula.exe, version: 11.0.0.379, time stamp: 0x505fc5b0
Faulting module name: nvdxgiwrap.dll, version: 8.17.12.6696, time stamp: 0x4d4a29db
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x0000282a
    Faulting process id: 0x22f0
    Faulting application start time: 0x01ce5e2f79ed2056
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\Eula.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\CoProcManager\nvdxgiwrap.dll
    Report Id: b7a70181-ca22-11e2-a1d5-b9e8c6ec20d2
This was triggered every time the application was started (either by opening a PDF file or manually starting the application). The culprit here is another executable that is apparently being ran by Adobe Reader XI  called Eula.exe. This executable is exactly what you would expect it to be. It displays a End User License Agreement, but apparently does so poorly. To fix the issue, go to the directory indicated in your Windows Event Viewer error message (in the above it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, which is located next to "Faulting application path:" and open the Eula.exe application manually.
Read the EULA, agree to it, and you will be able to open Adobe Reader.

    Hi Inayal,
That message was from May 31, 2013, several months ago. That log entry no longer exists in my eventvwr. However, I did post the specific error message above, which showed me which application the Adobe Reader was trying to launch but failed, and that is how I figured out which application was holding up Adobe Reader. From what I remember, this is the only message that displayed in the eventvwr regarding Adobe Reader.
Yes, I do have an NVIDIA driver (NVIDIA NVS 4200M). Driver version is 9.18.13.1100 (1/10/2013). However, what I believe you're seeing here is an "Access Denied" failure (code 5) which is returned by CreateProcess in the Windows API. The typical cause of an Access Denied failure is not having both read and execute permissions for the directory/executable you are trying to launch. I would check the code where you are calling CreateProcess or CreateProcessA (if this is C++, if it's something else, then that function is likely calling CreateProcess or CreateProcessA) and make sure you are getting the appropriate elevation to start the application from the Program Files directory. My best guess is that this ShellExecute is running into problems inserted by Windows Vista/7/etc. through a technology called UAC. In order to run this other executable from a system directory (Program Files), you will probably have to ask for "runas" permissions which will prompt the user to elevate your permissions to execute another system executable (this is the user that owns the EULA executable on my machine).
You can read more about User Account Control here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control
Here's an example of using the "runas" verb with ShellExecute to run another executable and prompt the user for permission to execute another System executable:
In a native Win32 application the same "runas" verb can be added to a ShellExecute() or ShellExecuteEx() call.
    ShellExecute(hwnd, "runas", "C:\\Windows\\Notepad.exe", 0, 0, SW_SHOWNORMAL);
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    James

  • Adobe Reader deselects the pen tool after making a single mark. How do I fix this?

I have a Surface Pro 2 tablet that deselects the pen tool after I make any kind of mark with it. It works occasionally with the mouse but not the stylus. For example, if I were to write a "41", I'd have to make one stroke, then select the pen tool, and then make the other stroke  to complete the "4", select the pen tool again, and then write the "1".
The Adobe Reader is updated to the latest firmware (11.0.10).

Wow lol I think that might have been the issue I pressed it a few times and it stopped, thank you!
