URGENT: Allocating server groups to a particuler user/user group

Hello All,
Can we allocate a particuler server group to a a particuler user/user group? If yes, could you tell me how? We are using BO 4.1.
A prompt reply will very much be appreciated.
Thank you.

Yes - you can, but ONLY for scheduling reports.
you can create a server group and then while scheduling a report - there is an option "schedule for" here you can specify the intended group name and there is also an option called "Scheduling Server Group" so you can select the server group created  - this way, you can set a schedule to run for a particular group/user and have the group/user to use specific servers in a server group that you created.
Hope this helps.

  • 10.6.8 to Mavericks Server Upgrade loses Open Directory Users

    Hi,
I have an OpenDirectory Master running OSX Server 10.6.8. An upgrade to Mavericks 10.9 has just failed.
The server has about 50 OD users and passwords need to be retained across the upgrade. Apart from OD, the only other active service is AFP file sharing.
DNS is good forward and back as per this article: OS X Server: Steps to take before upgrading or migrating the Open Directory database
I followed these Apple guidelines for server migration: OS X Server: Upgrade and migration from Lion Server or Snow Leopard Server.
I cloned the boot drive, booted from the clone, upgraded to Mavericks, then installed the Mavericks Server app.
On opening the Mavericks Server app "Configuring services' showed for 5 minutes, but then an error message appeared. I did not record it exactly, but it was something like, "There was an error configuring the server. Certificate not valid!".
I was able to continue through the error but on opening Server app there were no OD (local/network) users showing. Authentication was not happening.
I had underestimated the time to get the installation done and I had used up the window of downtime I had booked - I did not have much time to troubleshoot. So, I cut back to the original hard drive and the server is back to 10.6.8 again.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out what may have gone wrong? How can I get my users into 10.9 Server?
    Many thanks,
    b.

Linc Davis advice is spot-on, as usual.
There seem to be dozens of sub-databases in the LDAP database. A problem in any of them seems to derail the entire conversion process. I tried a straight conversion and was also disappointed that there were unresolved issues, and it meant that the conversion failed.
So I did the export route using WorkGroup Manager, and exported four sets:
    Users
    Groups
    Computers
    Computer groups
go to the appropriate pane (e.g., Users) and Select All, then choose Export, and give it a name (probably with an embedded date in case you need to do it again later)
Then use 10.9 WorkGroup Manager (available as a separate download) to Import.
When re-imported, everything worked just fine (except the passwords, which cannot be carried forward using this method). I did have to manually enable at least one service, such as File Sharing service in Server [admin], or users showed up as "not allowed" [to log in].
This entire process of getting Server 3 to work is fraught with peril, and everything converges on ONE diagnostic, "Network users can't log in". Which means you blew it, but provides no additional information about WHERE you blew it.
There do not appear to be any magic bullets. It is just a tough slog. Users who reported success after failing the first time reported they returned to fundamental principles and did all the steps over, in order, to attain success.

  • Server Group not working when one of Job Servers is down

I have a Server Group of two job servers. They have the same version 12.2.2.3 and are attached to the same Local Repository of version 12.2.2.0.
When I execute a batch job (from the Designer) and explicitly specify on which job server it should run, it works fine for either job server. Also, when I specify Batch Job execution on Server Group, it works fine.
However, when I shutdown one of the Job Servers, and then try to execute the job on Server Group, I'm getting two error messages, BODI-1111011 that one Job Server is down, and BODI-1111009 that another Job Server has failed.
At the same time, when I check the Server Group in the Management Console, it shows that the allegedly failed Job Server is in the status green.
That error is not reflected in a job server eveng log, nor there is anything written to webadmin log, not in the job trace (the latter isn't created at all).
Is there anything I can do at this point except raise a support message?

The issue was with different users for Local Repository in Admin and Job Server config. I discovered it when trying to run the job from Admin Console. Designer is probably not the best diagnostic tool for such kind of issues.

  • Integrating BI server groups with BIP groups

Hello - having a BIP integration with OBIEE issue.
    Running:
    BIP 10.1.3.3.3 running on AIX
    OBIEE 10.1.3.3.3 running on AIX
Our OBIEE server is configured so that users authenticate with our enterprise LDAP implementation. After they authenticate, OBIEE is able to see which LDAP groups the user belongs to and uses these LDAP groups to determine which privelages the user is assigned in OBIEE because OBIEE has the same groups defined within its security model. For example, if user ABC is in LDAP group "OBI ADMIN" then they become a member of the "OBI Administrator" group in OBIEE. This is configured properly and working.
For BIP, my goal is to use BI Server security and have users who are in the "OBI Administrator" group within OBIEE also assigned as an administrator of the BIP system by assigning the "OBI Administrator" group to "XMLP_ADMIN". I've configured BIP to use BI server security and I've verified that authentication is working with LDAP.
When I assign the OBI "OBI Administrator" group to the "XMLP_ADMIN" group then the users in "OBI Administrator" group do not have access to the Admin tab in BIP. I've also tried assigning the XMLP_ADMIN group to the "OBI Administrator" group, but this does not work either.
Has anyone been able to assign OBIEE groups to the XMLP_ADMIN (or any other XMLP groups in OBIEE) and had it work? Perhaps there is something fundamental I am missing or misunderstanding.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
This is a bug already raised with Oracle Support. What I did was to add the required BI Publisher groups to the desired users,in addition to the existing OBI groups. That is,we created a composite key based on Employee ID and Group Name. This enabled us to assign several BI Publisher groups to a user in the database table containing user informations.Let me know if it solves your problem too.
    Thanks and regards,
    Debarati.

  • BI Server group and Presentation Services group

    Hi Experts,
I've created a BI Server group and a Presentation Services group - both named 'Reporting Superuser'.
Next I've created a user (User_1) in the BI Administration tool and added the user to 'Reporting Superuser'.
The Presentation Services group 'Reporting Superuser' has full control on the right folders and the corresponding dashboards.
I haven't added User_1 to the Presentation Services group 'Reporting Superuser'. According to the documentation that shouldn't be necessary.
Unfortunately when I log in using User_1, I don't see any of the dashboards User_1 should have access to through the group membership.
Is there anything I might have missed?
    OBIEE Version 10.1.3.4.1.090414.1900
    Thanks for your help
    Regards
    Andy

First check whether user is assigned with that particular group after logging in..
log in to presentation service with that user and go to my account.. and check for following:
    Group Membership
This list shows the groups to which you belong.
    Group1
    Group2
check whether that user belonged group is there in that list or not...

  • Server group management

    Hi,
When setting up an architecture where servers should be accessible only to a subset of the platform's users, e.g. geographically dispersed installations, SAP has always said to use server groups and assign the content (i.e. the reports) to the corresponding server group.
    Example:
Reporting databases are deployed in Belgium and France
2 hosts containing processing servers are installed in each of those countries
Reports are restricted to one of the two server groups
While this setup works fine for existing reports, what do you do with ad-hoc reports? E.g. a user creates a new Web Intelligence report against a universe that pulls data from the database in Belgium. As far as I can tell, there's no way that you can make that report use the processing server in Belgium. Instead, it will randomnly use a processing server that's available to handle its request.
Also, using server groups this way requires your users to set the processing server after they save the report for the first time, or create custom code based on the SDK that will assign the server group.
I've run into the same problem with deployments where there's a requirement to have processing servers dedicated to departments. As far as I can tell, there's no way to do this as there's no link between user and server (i.e. it's not possible to define which users or user groups have access to a server group).
I was hoping the multi-tenant feature in BI4 would provide some way around this, but it seems that's not how it works.
Any input regarding this type of setup is very welcome! Thanks.
    Kind regards,
    Kristof Speeckaert

    Hi,
    Thanks for your input.
I tried this in the past, but just to be sure, I did the following setup again (BI4 SP05):
    Created two servers groups
    Server group 1:
    WebI Processing Server 1
    Connectivity Adaptive Processing Server
    WebI Adaptive Processing Server
    Server group 2:
    WebI Processing Server 2
    Connectivity Adaptive Processing Server
    WebI Adaptive Processing Server
Created one user group with one user in it
Denied access to server group 1 for the test group
The user group has full application and content rights
    Scenario:
Logged on using the BI Launch pad
Opened and refreshed a sample WebI document
Brought the Webi Processing server in group 2 downOnly the WebI processing server in group 1 is up and running and the user group has no access to this server group.
    Logged out and in again
Opened and refreshed the same sample document
Based on your suggestion, I shouldn't have been able to open nor refresh the sample document in step 5, however it worked without a problem.
This would mean that granting/denying users access to servers/server groups does not prevent them from using the server, in this case for opening and refreshing a WebI document.
Here's the relevant paragraph regarding server group access rights from the Administrator Guide:
You can use rights to grant people access to servers and server groups, allowing them to perform tasks such as starting and stopping servers.
If your server team needs to perform regular server maintenance tasks that require them to shut down and start up servers, you need to grant them rights to the servers. You may also want to delegate SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform server administration tasks to other people. Or you may want different groups within your organization to have control over their own server management.
Judging from this information, assigning rights to server groups should be used from administrative access to the servers, not to decide who get to use the server from an end-user perspective. The latter should be done by assigning server groups to documents/reports. However, this leaves us with the same problem when dealing with ad-hoc reports.
    Kind regards,
    Kristof Speeckaert

  • Imported Crystal Reports from CE10 with specified server group problem

We have Crystal Reports on a CE10 Environment where we have assigned and scheduled them to different server groups in order to throttle workload and maintain customer service levels.  When importing these reports to BO XI 3.1, it appears to bring over the server group with the report (it's visible in the CMC) but when a normal user goes to do a schedule on the report in InfoView, it fails, unless they go to the Scheduling Server Group' area on the report schedule options and select 'use first available server'.  All of the other options were greyed out.  If I log in as an account that is the member of the 'Administrators' group, it shows the option 'Only user servers belonging to the selected group'.  Am I missing a permission/security setting?  The user doing the scheduling has the 'Schedule' security profile on the report.

Must grant user rights to view server groups and servers in order to allow for scheduling to specific server groups or servers

    Hi Vinoth,
First of all, you can use properties directly in RUNALLOCATION,  like
    *DIM PROFIT_CTR WHAT=[DONTPLAN]= X; WHERE=[DONTPLAN]=Y; USING=<<<; TOTAL=<<<
I'm not sure if you can use <> there, but can't you put some Property value on those members on which you want to plan instead of on those that you don't want?
Also you can put more than one condition on same Property and it will be interpreted as OR even thought you have AND there.
    Hope this helps.

  • What could mean "server group"

What could mean server group. I have to specify when running a program in background(probably this is not a group in "smlg"as this partains to dialog processing

I think you're refering to SAP RFC server group
Similar to load distribution of user logins with logon groups, there is a mechanism for load distribution of RFCs
This is needed to achieve parallelization to achieve higher performance
To avoid overloading a dialog instance with too many simultaneous RFCs, it uses the resources of all existing dialog instances optimally. Hence you refine RFC server groups.
Use RZ12 to maintain RFC groups.
Create a group & assign single/multiple instances to this group

  • Enable server group mailing list

I am try to figure out why I cannot get the server group mailing list to work. I have a group called testgroup in my OD and have 4 users added to it. I restarted the server after I ticked the box "enable server group mailing list" in Mail/settings/Mailing list and when I send an email to testgroup the mail client rejects the address. What am I doing wrong? All I want to do is create a group email account.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    HI John,
The group settings in WGM SL and Leopard are different.
Yes, they are. I booted to my eval copy of SL Server and ran through the settings in WGM, Server Admin and Server Preferences; as you pointed out, all the mail list admin tools I could find are in the Mail service in Server Admin.
The only thing that may be of interest that I could find is that for the group mail list, the email address for the group is group_shortname@ServerDNSname, not groupshortname@yourdomain (this is in the Mail Services Admin Guide for 10.6). This might explain why your email to the group may have been rejected?

  • BOXI3.1 How to dedicate server groups to select Webi reports?

We have a select number of Webi reports that we would like to always run on a specific server group which consists of a number of WebIntelligenceProcessingServer(s). I can get this to work fine by 1) setting up the server group 2) Specifying that server group in the "Default Settings" of a Webi report using the CMC 3) scheduling the report and viewing the latest instance. However I can find no way of stopping all other Webi reports in the system from running on that same server group.
Anyone know how to set a server group up so that it only processes specific reports and not ever report in the entire BO XI repository?
    Thanks,
    George

I have set up a little test on my BOE 3.1 SP3 system and have found the following:
2 server group:  SDKNO and SDKYES
4 WEBI Server (2 ADP and 2 WPS)
Have given SDKNO a set of WEBI servers and have given SDKYES the other WEBI servers
Created 2 user group SDKNO and SDKYES
Have set SDKNO group to have NO acess to SDKYES and full control to SDKNO have set SDKYES group with full control to SDKYES and No Access to SDKNO
Have created and schedlued webi reports as a user that should have NO access to the SDKNO server group and reports will still use the SDKNO servers.
I have gone one step further and set security directly to the servers as opposed to the server group and still a member of the "SDKNO" group can use the "SDKYES" servers.
Apperantly there does not seem to be a way to isolate servers based on group membership.
What does this mean to you?
Basically, if you want to use serve groups and you want to ensure that no "other reports" use any available server then all reports MUST be assigen to a only use a specific server group as, if this is not set, the "use first avaialble" option will come into affect and trump any server group security settings that have been set up.

  • Managing Server Groups by LDIF

I have a large number of replicated servers. I would like to assign them all to a number of server groups based on function and location.
Rather than manually creating the groups and populating them on each server is it possible to do this via LDIF?
if so what is the structure of the LDIF ie dn objectclasses etc?
    Thanks

Workgroup Manager and MCX are deprecated.  These technologies should only be used if you can not accomplish your tasks with Server.app and Profile Manager.  If you have specific requirements that can not be satisfied in Server.app and Profile Manager you should send feedback to Apple.
    So to your questions:
Should I be managing users with WorkGroup manager or server app, Whats the advantage?
I don't have user profiles (files) stored on the server they are local. That being the case, why does each user have a network folder on the server?
1:  Ideally, no.  Unless...  You are supporting machines prior to 10.8.5 or can not find an equivalent function in Server.app and Profile Manager.  There is no advantage to using it.  Apple will eventually stop distributing it.  It is available now for legacy support only.  If you have a need for MCX management then WGM remains viable.  But, ideally, you should be looking to Profile Manager.
2:  This is because you created your accounts using Local Home Folder template instead of None - Services Only.  The Local Home Folder template has the unfortunate side-effect of creating a user home folder on the server.  I too dislike this.  If you only want to use the accounts for services, then you should create the accounts using None - Services Only.  By the way, it is safe to delete these home folders if you would like.

  • Specifying Server Group

Working in BOXI R2, Java-based on Windows
We have a set-up with 8 Report Servers.  Seven of them have a 10MB limit set on them.  The eighth is specifically for large reports, and has a 250MB limit.  We created a server group specifically to target that eighth server, called Large WebI Reports.  So far, I am not liking server groups.
Scheduling against a server group is easy.  Users can set that easily enough, and all runs as it should.
However, if a user has to open the report in Document Viewer, it runs against a Report Server again.  This is random, unless a switch is set in the object properties in the CMC.  Note, this is not something users have access to.  So, when a user has a large report, they have to contact me (as the administrator) to toggle the object to only run against the Large WebI Reports server.  Annoying, but at least it works.
Well, we thought it did.  Now, it turns out that if you open a specific instance from the History of a document, it doesn't pay attention to the object properties.  And, I cannot find any properties anywhere that will tell the instance to only use the Large WebI Reports server.  So, the user basically has to keep opening the report in Document Viewer over and over, hoping for that 1-in-8 chance of hitting the right server.
This is extremely annoying as most of these reports are the specific ones that need to be downloaded into CSV format.  Simply scheduling them out to Excel is not an option, due to the limits on the size of Excel worksheets.
Does anyone have any guidance on how to better manage assigning these large reports to the appropriate server?  Or, at least, some way to point all the instances of a document to the right server group?

Is it possible to schedule the document to run and then output FTP in some sorta of txt file format.
    Just an idea.

  • DSCC Server Group Management by LDIF

Is it possible to manage Server Groups using LDIF commands?
I haven't been able to find if this is possible and the syntax for the LDIF.
We have a large number of replicated servers and rather than recreating the wheel on each server to assign servers to the correct server groups it would be easier to create a LDIF file to push out.

Jay, Thank you for that information.
In a related question, is there an easy way for a user to see the names that in a group mailing list? When we set up a group mailing list, we always set the option of Show Member List to anyone in our organization. Can users at least see who is there?
It's interesting that the write up for the amserver seems to indicate that mailing list management is one of the things it does do... perhaps only for administrators?
