URGENT - Are these emails claiming to be from BT B...

Hello. I've just had two emails that I think could be fake:
(1) Last night at 22:54.
From bt.ipsip.co.uk Subject "Your latest BT bill is now online."
Body:
Get a 200£ Visa® Prepaid card when you pay your BT services. Enroll now to WIN!" and then below it:
"Reward yourself for once. Actually, twice. Get a 200£ prepaid card* by mail + 200£ credit only with a few clicks!
Enroll now with a few clicks!" Followed by a link, then "**Offer ends 07/31/14. This offer is only available by ordering online. "
 My concerns: 200£ not £200 / also date in American order rather than UK's 31/7/14/
(2) Today at 08:55. From [email protected] Subject "IMPORTANT - your Billing Information"
Body:
IMPORTANT - WE NEED TO CONFIRM YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION.
Hello - This e-mail has been sent to you to inform you that we were unable to confirm your BT account information.
This might be due to a recent change in your personal information. (eg: billing address, phone).
The secure way to confirm your account information:
1.Download the attached Document..
2. Follow the instructions to Confirm you account information
You might need your BT account number for this you'll find it at the top of your bill. We'll send you a confirmation email once your account information verified.
Thanks for choosing BT,
 Libby Barr
 Managing Director, BT Sales and Service
This is an automatic email, so please don't reply. To ensure future emails from BT are delivered to your inbox and not treated as spam, please add [email protected] to your address book. This email was sent to you at because you subscribe to BT services.
My concerns: I haven't changed my personal information / two full stops after 'Document' / 'Confirm you' instead of 'confirm your' in (2) / no full stop after "BT account number for this" / "has been" missing between 'information' and 'verified'. / something missing after 'sent to you at'.

Bin them. They are obviously fake. BT never ask you to confirm account details on an email. Do not click on any links or download anything if you are not 100% certain about them.

    where are these unix executable files coming from and how do I recover the original text file?

    When you upgraded to Lion did you have AppleWorks installed on your mac?
    Most of the AW documents can be opened by Pages 09 or Numbers 09 with most of the orginal format in tact. (I do not know if previouse verision will work) just open the AW file with both and see which one works best.
    Text Edit will also open most of the AW files as well but will require a lot of work to restore them to their orginal format.
    If you have AW Database documents then they are not supported.
    These document show up as "exec icons", Kind: Unix Executagle File.
    They also will show up as .cwk file if they are small files. I have a couple that were under 1mb that are shown as " Kind: AppleWorks Document" but will not open.
    The only option to open AW database is to have AW installed on a mac with a pre-Lion OS to recover the file.

  • Are these emails from BT?

    I have had two of the following emails sent to me, I have been with BT Internet for years now and I have got used to spotting fake emails but a BT newbie might fall foul to giving out personal details can I just warn other users to beware of these emails. I do not think BT would ask for such details via a email message, the emails look genuine with a BT logo.
    Due to the congestion in all internecine users and removal of all unused  Accounts,
    btinternet would be shutting down all unused Accounts, You will have to confirm your E-mail by filling out your Login Information below after clicking the reply button,
    *User name:......................... ..............

    After following the instructions in the sheet, your account will not be interrupted and will continue as normal.

    Hi.
    As you rightly say, it's 100% fake. In fact any of these emails asking for those details it guaranteed to be a 100% phishing email. As it's almost certainly written in html text, then as that allows for formatting commands, the BT globe is easy to add. There's even a word in there that is completely out of context and the grammar is dreadful.
    The link it mentions would go to a hacked website controlled by the scammers.
    Unfortunately people do get taken in by these emails, and even though these sorts of emails have been going on for many years now for many companies, there will still be those replying and giving away their details. Despite all the information on the news, various websites and elsewhere - some will believe that "this" one is genuine.
    It isn't just newbies that can get caught out as well.

  • Has anyone else been receiving emails from their iTunes acc email to their same email claiming to be from Apple?

    I just received an email from the account that I have my iTunes account with to that same account claiming to be from Apple Support.  I have attached a screencap to show email.

    Yes, well it is still a spam/phising e-mail, so just delete it and check your iTunes e-mail account as it could have been hacked.  Go in and change the passwords associated with the account.
    Any correspondence from iTunes or Apple directly should have your name on it and not Dear Apple Customer or iTunes Customer.  It's the same with the PayPal e-mails - they put Dear or Dear Customer without the name, which PayPal never do.
    Delete it and then log into the e-mail account and change all the passwords to ensure that the account has not been hacked.

  • How do I contact Apple about these emails I'm getting from them?

    Hi everyone,
    I'm getting emails from Apple about renewing AppleCare and a replacement iPhone 4 but it seems they are meant for someone of the same name as myself who lives in the US.
    The odd thing is they are sent from Apple to an email address identical to my own except it misses out a full stop (dot) between forename and surname. How it's getting into my indox I don't know, and when I emailed this other Ed to inform him of this the email arrived in my own inbox which was really odd.
    Any advice anyone could give me would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    EDIT: It turns out Gmail doesn't distinguish between addresses with dots or not, so the emails are meant to be coming to be but some guy with the same name as me has entered the wrong address. Does anyone know where I can email Apple about this or what number to call in the UK? Thanks : )

    Hi Ed,
    Do the emails coming to you, by mistake, have a reference number at the top? Many will have some identifier to use for response.
    If not, have you tried contacting Apple Customer Support to report the situation?
    It is frustrating enough getting junk mail correctly addressed without getting mail about something you don't have and is incorrectly addressed

    Although the email address is not mine I want to report it to be investigated. There's an attachment but I'm not opening it, it's a zipped folder. Thank you for your time and help.

    I think you are right to be suspicious of this email. There is every chance that the attachment is infected and you should not open it.
    However
    1. It does not seem to be a Phishing email at all. There is no invitation to login, to send personal details, or to do anything else related to phishing.
    2. The email does not say it is from Adobe, or in any way connected with Adobe. It does not impersonate Adobe email addresses, it uses hotmail addresses. It just says there is a PDF, and has typical text about how to get Adobe Reader.
    Not sure why you think Adobe would be interested in this.

  • Why are these classes equal? Loaded from different classloaders.

    I thought that classes loaded from different classloaders were seen as different in the JVM? But this code prints true to every check:
    try
         Class c = new URLClassLoader( new URL[] { new URL( "jar:file://home/tests/test.jar!/" ) } ).loadClass( "Test" );
         Class c2 = new URLClassLoader( new URL[] { new URL( "jar:file://home/tests/test.jar!/" ) } ).loadClass( "Test" );
         System.out.println( ( c == c2 ) );
         System.out.println( ( c.equals( c2 ) ) );
         System.out.println( ( c.getName().equals( c2.getName() ) ) );
    catch (Exception e)
         e.printStackTrace();
    }

    DrClap wrote:
    The more unbelievable thing is that this:
    System.out.println( ( c == c2 ) );prints "true". That shouldn't happen, and it's nothing to do with facts about classloaders. It shouldn't happen because "new" called twice should produce two different objects, no matter what kind of objects they are.
    I didn't try your code because I would have had to spend a couple of minutes creating suitable jar files. But did you actually run that code? Or is it a reduction of some larger piece of code and you just assumed it would do what you said it does? Because I don't believe that.I actually ran the code and every line DID print out true. This is in Java 1.5.
    I figured out why they're all true though - it's because the jar file was in the classpath, so the classes were loaded by a different classloader (the same one). When I put the jar out of the classpath, the statments printed out like this:
    //false
    System.out.println( ( c == c2 ) );
    //false
    System.out.println( ( c.equals( c2 ) ) );
    //true
    System.out.println( ( c.getName().equals( c2.getName() ) ) );I agree on the first one printing true but I seem to remember something about how they changed that rule in Java 1.5. I could be wrong but in c++, that would be a completely valid true statement (assuming your class implemented the "==" operator), so maybe they changed it to be in line with that?

  • Has anyone else received an email claiming to be a beta to try out of what is termed "iWorks" through iCould?

    Today I received an email claiming to be from Apple.  Below are the contents of the email.  It basically claimed to be offering me a chance to test out a beta version of what it called iWorks on the iCloud.  I just needed to sign in to test it out.  Has anyone else received anything similar?  Has anyone been able to verify its contents?  Or is it a scam?  It allegedly was sent by email address of "[email protected]"  Help?
    Thanks,
    Chris
    Get Started
    Dear Christina,
    We’ll soon be introducing a new and exciting feature to iCloud. It’s called iWork for iCloud and it’s a suite of apps — Pages, Numbers, and Keynote — that make it easy for anyone with an iCloud account to create and edit great-looking documents, spreadsheets, and presentations right on the web.
    We’d like to invite you to be one of the first to try it, so we’re giving you early access to the iWork for iCloud beta. All you have to do is sign in to iCloud on a Mac or a PC using the current version of Safari, Chrome, or Internet Explorer. Then just click on Pages, Numbers, or Keynote and you’re off.
    We’re really proud of these apps and we’d appreciate your help in making them as great as they can possibly be. So we’d love to hear your feedback as you use them.
    Sign in to iCloud.com to get started with iWork for iCloud today.
    Sincerely,
    The iWork Team

    Has it been verified with Apple?  Because I just called Apple care, and the technician I spoke to knew nothing about it.  He said he thought it was a scam and recommended I post it here.
    Confused, anyone?  Lol.

  • Where are Invitation Emails for Apple Calendar Stored?

    Hi,
    When you add an event in Apple Calendar (prev. iCal) and invite an attendee, an email with an invitation is sent. Where are these emails saved? Where can you find the template that is used to create these emails?

    Hi Filip,
    What happens with invites depends on whether the calendar is local or stored on calendar server or not.  For local calendars (those under "On My Mac") the sent items will go into the outbox on Mail while the internat connection is broken. For server based calendars (iCloud, Exchange, Google calendar and other CalDAV calendars) the server is sent a signal via your internet connection and the email is made and sent from the server.
    You are not going to be able to stop a server based calendar using the method you subscribe.
    For local calendars you might want to look at my application iCal Reply Checker. It is shareware, but runs for 10 days before needing to be paid for.
    Best wishes
    John M

There are hundreds of emails and some other documents. I tried to delete a few of them when I first got the MS office but it did not like that, it said it have to rebuild oulook. Why cant i delete these files? is this Apple version of Window outlook PST files?
    These file extenssions are listed as
    olk14_message or even or ccontact. I wish I could send a screen print but I dont see that on the key board. Maybe I should have stuck with windows..
    Oh the ...olk14_message's.  Do not delete them behind Outlooks back, i.e., from the finder.  Those are the various messages that you sent, received, or deleted in Outlook.  They are indexed by Outlook so if you delete behind Outlook's back Outlook will get confused trying to access those messages.
    You can delete them however using Outlook itself.  In outlook select a mailbox (Drafts, Sent Items, Deleted Items, etc.) by clicking on the mailbox on the left.  It will show you the messages in that mailbox.  You can now select all or selected items in that mailbox.  The click the Edit menu and select Delete.  You will get a dialog asking if you really want to delete the selections.  Answer "Delete" and the messages will get deleted.
    The olk14_message's you are seeing are the actual messages shown the Outlook mail boxes.  When you actually delete them the way I just described the corresponding olk14_message files will also be deleted.
    Note Outlook's Deleted Items mailbox is where all deleted messages go when you click the Delete tool in the Outlook toolbar.   Thus using the Delete tool from the toolbar does not permanently delete the messages.  So if you been using that for months or years you are going to have a very large Deleted Items mailbox.  And every one of those items in there is going to have a corresponding olk14_message file for that message.
    So if those olk14_message files you are seeing are from the Deleted Items mailbox you can get rid of all those corresponding olk14_message files by selecting all the messages in Deleted Items and using the Edit menu's Delete.
    Alternative ways to the Edit/Delete to do the permanent delete is select (all) the messages to delete and control (right) click to bring up the Outlook contextual menu and select Delete from it.
    Finally if you use the Delete tool in the toolbar for messages selected in the Deleted Items mailbox you will be able to permanently delete those too.  It's an exception since using the tool on the Deleted Items means there's no place to put those messages except to "oblivion".
    So, in summary, using the Delete tool in the toolbar on messages in every mailbox except the Deleted Items mailbox just moves messages to the Deleted Items mailbox.  But using the Delete tool on items in them Deleted Items mailbox permanently deletes the selected items in there.  And only permanently deleting items removes the corresponding actual ...olk14_message files.

    I have an imap account and deleted all mail from server. Once doing this all emails from my iPad -which was on a wi-fi- where automatically deleted. Fortunately these emails are still visible on my iPhone that was without connection. If I send all these emails to my iCloud account - they will remain into my outgoing folder until I open my wi-fi- …BUT will they be sent when I open my wi-fi connection, or since they are no longer on my server… be deleted for ever!?

    This is how IMAP works, if you delete from one device it will also be deleted in the other devices.
