URGENT:  Downloading P2 Files into Final Cut 2.1.4

We shot 1080i 24p (I know this doesn't make sense, but it's what my cinematographer is calling it) with a Panasonic AG-HVX200 (don't know if it's the 'E').
She downloaded the files onto my hard drive, but when I try to import them into my Final Cut 2.1.4 via the P2 import, FCP says my file, "has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches the supported media."
From what I'm told, FCP 2.1.4 has the necessary Codecs? Other folks tell me they have imported P2 files without any problems.
Do I need to download directly from the camera into my system? Could my DP have made a mistake on her download into my hard drive?
Thanks, Ken

'Sorry, not true. This is if you are importing the clips from the camera, this has already been done. They have been converted into QTs so the P2 is no longer part of the equation.
Well then, you are importing improperly. You didn't say that they had already been converted into QTs. If this is the case, simply do a FILE>IMPORT and locate the quicktime files. You only use the IMPORT PANASONIC P2 when you are dealing with the cards or the files dumped off the cards.
You just did the wrong thing because you were unfamiliar with the process. No worries.
The problem is that you are working with FCP5 which was made 5 minutes after the camera went on the market.
FCP 5.0.4 was the first version to support Panasonic P2. I used it....but it was rife with issues. FCP 5.1 fixed these. FCP 6 went even further.
I suggest we re-import into your computer using the original media. Downgrading.'
Pardon? Hold on. If you already have the QT files, just import them via FILE>IMPORT>FIles...or Folder if they are all in one folder.
I intend to do 2 imports: one directly into my FCP 5.1.4, and a second into my hard drive as a back up to re-import at a later time when I get FCP 6.
Dude...WATCH THE TUTORIAL. Seriously. The process is: Offload the P2 cards onto hard drives. Import from those hard drive into FCP converting them into QT files that you store on your MEDIA drives. Now either archive the original hard drives with the original P2 card backups, or offload those onto other archive hard drives. No need to import twice.

  • Need help importing canon xf files into final cut X

Hello everyone, I am new to this site and am really appreciative of all the great information I have been able to obtain through everyones posts. I do realize this thred has been beat to death and apologize in advance for being slow. I am in the same situation as I have an xf 300 and 100 and for the life of me cant get all my files into final cut X. It's about to drive me crazy! I have taken the steps to download PikaFoto's workflow tool for the xf files but I am still having problems understanding how to use the program. Thankyou for providing this program as I am grasping for anything I can to get through this problem. Can I take the files directly into this workflow tool or do I need to go through my xf utiliy program? I just need a basic process to go from my camera to final cut X. A few of you guys have aparently been able to make this work with the same problem so I know it has to be something my tiny brain has not been able to process yet. Any help would really be great. Thanks

    what a surprise...
FCPX is - besides many other features - a highly complex data-base application.- Just dragging some content just somewhere isn't the workflow how a data-base.app can manage its data. I dare to say, your experiments distructed your file-structure irreversible.
You should revert to some back-up BEFORE installing a beta.OS (!!) on a productive system.

What if I have problems running the pre-release software?
Always back up your computer before installing pre-release software.
speaking of Yosemite: You signed an NDA on download NOT to discuss any issues with this public beta.......

at the end, you say "import preferences", which program are you describing?
So im safer using footage that is remotely being pulled from iphoto...
    vs
using footage that is imported into FCP from imovie?
Is there anything i can do in fcp to make this footage more reliable or safer or more stable as i pull remotely from iphoto?
All the footage, and all the libraries to all programs, or on a new pegasus 12tb raid 5 setup fyi.

  • How to Import AVCHD 1080/60p Files into Final Cut Pro 7?

How do I import AVCHD 1080 / 60p Files into Final Cut Pro 7? And if there is no direct way [I certainly haven't found one, but I'm no expert], what additional software would be used? I want to import the files from a Panasonic HDC-HS700 onto an Intel Mac laptop [Mac OSX 10.5.8]? Obviously I don't want to compress & compromise my footage.
I’m sure a simple, straightforward series of steps would help many people with this issue.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the response!
I'm guessing you've found ClipWrap2 to be better than competing products [such as AVCHD Converter for Mac, Toast Titanium, or Voltaic].
On to the next steps. Using Clipwrap2, would I leave the checkbox "Convert Audio to LPCM" selected or deselected [and what the heck is LPCM?]. In the pulldown menu would I choose "Rewrap (Don't alter video samples)" or do I save a step by choosing "Apple ProRes 422"?
And finally, am I gaining anything by shooting 1080/60p on this Panasonic HD Camera other than a headache? [Some have suggested this is not a True 60p.]

  • Every time I import an .fcpxml file into Final Cut Pro X, the timeline doesn't get imported

So I had exported an .fcpxml file from one machine, which i had to format. So, after formatting the machine, each time I import the .fcpxml file into Final Cut Pro X, The timeline remains empty

Use MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (free software) to convert the media to something like ProRes 422, then import into FCP X.
MPEG Streamclip can cope with many codecs.

  • Importing AVI files into Final cut creates a pop

How can I stop getting a popping sound when I import AVI files into Final Cut. I figured it must be the type of file itself but I cant seem to find a free converter to convert my AVIs into what ever is need (which is what? .mov files?)
    Please help

The very basics of non-linear editing is to know what video and audio codecs your particular NLE works with natively. FCP works with many video codecs but only a few audio codecs. Typically it works best with AIFF at 48khz, 16 bit.
You can find out all the various native codecs and formats in the User's Manual, Help Files or by looking through the Easy Setup list.
FWIW, both AVI and MOV are not really codecs at all; they are both merely containers that could contain video and audio made from any number of codecs. So saying you have an AVI file or a MOV file is kind of like saying you have a car ... it doesn't really tell anyone much at all.
Both QuickTime Pro and Compressor (which you most likely already have installed) should be able to convert to a native codec for use in FCP.

  • Can't move a soundtrack file into Final Cut Express

What I do Les is go to Share in Sound Track then ...Share to iTunes. Then I go to iTunes and drag it to the desk top then import via FC. There maybe is an easier way but I don't know it.

  • Importing an Adobe Premiere Pro CC file into Final Cut 7

I am a student working on a video project and I want to import a Premiere Pro file into Final Cut 7. Does anyone know how to do that? I use Premiere Pro at home, but my school uses Final Cut 7. I just want to finish my project at home and then get it into Final Cut 7 at school. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you.

You might be able to do this by exporting XML from PPro and then importing that into FCut
Otherwise, you should ask Final Cut questions in an Apple forum

  • Importing video files into final cut express

I am a pro tools engineer and have just dove into final cut express 4.0 to do some simple video editing.I have a cannon camera with a sd card.I archived the video to a hard drive so I could free up the card.I can not find a single piece of evidence that explains how I can import those files from my hard drive.Everything that is mentioned is comming from a camera.I also tried by the book importing a Imovie to start simple. No luck.It shows up in the directory but there is no video.Needless to say I am lost!!!!

If you still have the original video on the memory card, put it back in the camcorder. (Don't try to copy it back from your Mac to the card, however.) Connect the camcorder to your Mac via USB and try capturing the video via FCE's Log & Transfer function.
In most cases when people merely copy video files from a camcorder's memory stick or hard drive (usually AVCHD video) to the Mac desktop or a folder, they don't copy the full directory structure on the card, which is essential. Is that what you did when you 'archived' the video? Can you provide more specific info?

  • I can't import mpeg files into final cut pro10

Hi, I have been given a whole load of old home video footage that I want to import into final cut pro to put into a music video. The files play on quicktime but when I go to import it it won't import.
I've already had this problem with MXF files but these are quicktime so how can I import it. Final Cut Pro 10 seems to not want to import anything that I actually want to use.
Anyone know what the problem is?
    Thanks
    Tom

What version of FCP X are you using?
Also: open one of these files in Quicktime Player, press Cmd-I to open the Movie Inspector, and post a screenshot of that.
When you say "it won't import", what exactly does happen? Do these files appear dimmed in the Import Window? Or something else happens?

  • How to import unix executable files into Final Cut Pro

A friend wanted me to create a Halo 3 Montage Video for him. He loaded the saved clips onto a flash drive for me but when I put it into my computer the information comes up as Unix Executable Files and I don't know how to import them into Final Cut Pro 7.0.2 or if it's even possible. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Ok. Well, I plug in the flash drive. When it opens there's a folder that says XBox360. When I click on the folder there are 9 files listed that say Data0000, Data0001 etc. The preview option shows a gray folder that says Exec on it and the only information I can find is that it's a Unix Executable File. When I click on more info option everything that pops up is what I've already told you. I tried opening it in the VLC Player but nothing played which makes me think there aren't video files on the flash drive. When I click on the file to open it the Terminal Program appears and lists basic information about the file.
Is there a program that can take these files and covert them into something that can run in Final Cut Pro? Or is that what VLC is supposed to do?

  • Importing Files into Final Cut Express

I have a technical issue that I hope someone can assist me with...
I recieved 2 harddrives full of video clips that were shot in HD from a video production house. Here is the content on the drives: CARD 1 (folder), inside this folder there are 2 items (CONTENTS & LASTCLIP.txt) in the CONTENT folder are the following folders : AUDIO, CLIP, ICON, PROXY, VIDEO, and VOICE.
My question/dilemma: Can I import these clips into Final Cut Express to edit? I have an older version of Final Cut HD that won't work with these files.
Any and all input will be greatly appreciated.

HELP ! Anybody, please help !
As you can probably guess. I've reached the limit of my "expertise" with your files ....... ".XML" sounds familiar but you will have to hang around for someone else to tell you whether and how they can be used.
One thing I am sure about (I think!) is that the latest version of FCE will be no better than the older one you have.
