URGENT... DVD help needed...(i know! wrong forum!)

Hello there...
first of all, sorry for posting this thread here, but i've posted it on the DVDsp forum and we're in such a rush for a solution i'm hoping you'll let it slip by and just help me out here....
we're having a bit of a problem... we have a DVD to produce of a load of clips to be handed out at a big environmental awards ceremony - tonight... it was meant to be picked up from us nearly an hour ago, to be duplicated, but we can't get the **** media to fit on the disc! AArrgghh!!!
all our media, after compression, comes in at 5Gb... obviously we need it at 4.7Gb
a simple question...
Does DVDsp not have a 'fit to fill' function, where you bring all your assets in, and DVDsp does a simple calculation and compresses everything MORE so that it will fit onto a DVD?
It's really driving us totally nuts, and we're very stressed out... we keep recompressing things, wasting time we just don't have...
how do we fit to fill onto the DVD?
hopefully somebody out there will know...

well.... the disc is made up of nineteen 5min stories and another nineteen 2.5min stories...
It's for a thing called The Ashden Awards which is a big ceremony, for people who run projects involving sustainable energy, that kind of thing... the DVD is part of a package they will hand out to the guests.
... the problem is, we've finished what was asked of us- all the 5min stories to a master tape, to be projected at the ceremony on a cinema screen type thing. Then they asked for this DVD... we asked if it could be on 2 discs, but they said definatly not... one disc only.
We've had limitations put onto us... we're just trying to get through it.
The computer is grinding away right now... i think our biggest error was encoding the audio to AAC.mp4, as that gave us false hope, and we didn't realise that DVDsp was re-encoding it back to AIFF... which jacked up the file sizes again...
we just did a test with the AC3 compression... looks like it's gonna save us.
Andy... i guess in the heat of the moment, and being rushed, with couriers and phones ringing... general chaos and stress... i forgot a forum policy... provide information so people can help... oops.

...but I didn't get much response when I posted to the designated iChat forum. You all are so knowledgeable here, just thought I'd try. Forgive me for breaking etiquette.
I'm running ichat 4.0.7 on my iMac with Leopard 10.5.6. Last night my brother and I were able to successfully text, audio, and video chat. He was using ichat 3.1.9 on his mac book pro laptop running Tiger 10.4.11.
Today, we were unable to audio or video chat. He was using his iMac at work running ichat 4.0.7 and Leopard 10.5.6. Every time we tried to video/audio chat, we got a message saying that "there was a communication error during your chat" and that I "did not receive a response from XXXXX (my brother)". He, of course, was indeed responding and accepting my invitations to video/audio chat. I got this exact same message regardless of who initiated the invitation (i.e., the message said that my brother was not responding whether he invited me or whether I invited him).
We had a few of these same messages yesterday, but after a few tries we were able to connect without problem. But not today, no matter how many times we tried. Also, he originally tried with his iMac at work today but then eventually pulled out his laptop (the same one he used yesterday) and neither computer was successful for him.
Finally, I had the same messages last night with another friend who I was trying to audio and video chat with.......we were never successful. Through all of this, however, the text chat feature has worked just fine. The only thing Ic an think of involves internet connection speed, although that seems to be fairly consistent.
Can anyone help?

one thing I always do when having connection problems with
iChat -- Both parties quit everything and restart your Macs.
If it still isn't working, it could be a problem with one of you ISP's.

Urgent Form Help Needed

I am trying to fill out a pdf form created by the Government of Canada and when I enter text in to the one of the text fields it does not keep the text there the text field merges with the box above. The fields I am having the problem with is 1.1 Internship Details which when I put in the answer (1200 words) it half merges with the text box above 1.0 Rationale for Initiative.
I have downloaded a number of versions of the file (on a number of pcs) and they all have the same problem. There are problems downloading the form in Chrome and some of the other web browsers but the newest version of IE works. I need to know if I am doing something wrong or if there is a problem with the form itself. I'm using Adobe Reader XI to fill the form and it was created using LiveCycle Forms 9.0. The creator of the form is highly unlikely to offer any assistance unless I can prove the problem is on their end. This is an RFP due tomorrow and my job kinda depends on it. HELP!

I've downloaded the form and tried to fill it in myself. I'm able to paste in 700 words (just under 4000 characters) without issue, but anything above that produces the error that you describe. So, it seems to me that the form designer may have imposed a limit on how many characters can be entered into that form field.

Urgent export help needed

Extremely urgent help needed! I'm on a tight deadline. I'm working on a sequence, with all my settings set to DV. My client needs an AVI file as an output. After exporting using conversion, the file looks and plays fine, except for any transitions. At the start of each transition, there is 1 frame that is unrendered. I have rendered the entire sequence, and tried the export many times now, and I can't figure out what's wrong. I'm working on v5.1.4. Can someone please help?????

URGENT AUDIO HELP NEEDED!! Suitable audio filters

I'm in desperate need of knowing what audio filters are good to reduce background noise for a film I'm making. I've got a basic DV camera that picked up a lot of wind the other day and I am trying to minimise the background noise so that I can pick up what people were saying.
Does anyone know what audio filters on Final Cut Express are suitable for doing this?

I have never found a way to filter out wind noise, and I don't think it is practicable. I think that the problem is that the frequency in wind noise is similar to the frequencies in most video audio, so you can't filter out the wind noise without damaging the rest of the audio.
The only solution seems to be to shoot on a windless day, or use a very directional mike, and/or have a wind sock that is effective. (Unless soemone else knows a way.)

High school basketball games highlight dvd help needed.

Problem: FCE 3.5 stops capturing at every time break.
Background: First of all I don't know much about FCE as it is my sons program and I am trying to help him out. Please bare with me if I don't get the terminology correct.
He is capturing basketball games recorded from a Panasonic model VDR-D210 camcorder that uses mini dvd discs. Because there is no firewire out port on this camera he is capturing thru a Pyro a/v Link analog to DV video converter, then firewire out to his intel imac running 10.4.11.
FCE 3.5 is capturing(video only no audio needed) thru this converter, but stops at every camera time break. He has about 20 games to go and it would be nice to be able to get the whole game without it stopping every minute or two.
He is volunteering to do this project for them but at this rate it will take forever. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim
DVD camcorders are not the easiest source for video editing. Since you are using an analog to digital converter, you need to change your FCE easy setup. In FCE open the drop down menu "Final Cut HD" > easy set up > DV -converter DV NTSC or DV - converter DV PAL depending on where in the world you are. > set up.
That should take care of your problem. FCE is a complex program. You'll face a steep learning curve to get your video done, especially since it sounds like you're under time constraints. You may be better off using iMovie 6. It's less complicated and is great for editing DV. You can create something that's simple or complicated. And, you'll face less of a learning curve.

Urgent array help needed! come get some duke points

this program keeps track of rentals for a shop. Other methods and classes not shown (like Customer, Transaction classes) are also in this program. Every item (created with a constructor in Item class) can hold an array of up to 20 transactions; part of a Transaction object is a rental total, based on a number of rental days * specific rental price for that item rented (backhoe, edger, etc.) If the user presses "t" for total amount of transactions, the following method is called, which calls the getTotalPrice() in another class called Item. My problem here is that even if I enter in transaction amounts, when I press "t", the program just quits, not producing the report and returning me to the main class. Urgent webcam help needed please

i didnt know where else to put this post. Anyway i just got a logitech fusion webcam which they sell on the apple store. i plugged it in and set it up. whenever i speak to anyone on skype(its the only one i use). they always say that around every 20 seconds they get a noise their end that sounds like wind noise. ive opened up the sound box in preferences and can see it happening form the noise indicator. but dont know what it is or how to stop it.. any ideas i really need help.. thanks in advance. the webcam by the way has a built in mic and i have the output coming through my speakers. ive also moved the speakers away from the webcam in case of interference but no joy.. please help..

Checking the Skype forums reveals a concensus that the problem is most likely within the Skype software.

Some suggest disabling the mic, and using a seperate mic. This is because some believe the hardware combo (camera/mic) over USB is the problem. Others suggest using the macam driver. Others still, claim there was no noise before 2.5. There are even problems with the Windows version, apparently.

URGENT: Superdrive help needed.

I have bought the new iMac, which evidently doesnt have an optical drive, so bought a superdrive from apple. Bootcamp doesnt recognise the super drive saying that no usb drive is found. The superdrive is clearly plugged in and working, playing cds so on and so forth.... HELP?

Well, I know Windows will not install from/to any external drive, DVD or HDD, so I would imagine even tho the Super Drive is Mac compatible it may not pass the Windows rules. Have you done a seach of the forums to see if any one else is having your problem?
My only other suggestion would be to have Boot Camp Assistant make a USB Flash drive Windows installer and do it the long way.

URGENT dreamweaver help needed

I need some urgent help please any experts here. I have 2
html pages. One is my index and one is my home. The index has an
image with a ENTER link which when clicked takes them to another
html which has my flash file in it. The problem I have is when
someone clicks enter the home page opens in big window and my flash
pice is stuck on one side. It is 766 by 662 and I want when someone
clicks enter that the home page open in a smaller window around 776
by 662 in size and in center of screen so it looks better. Also
would be nice when someone type web address the index page also
opens in smaller size. Please can someone tell me in as easy to

Last day I updated my credit cart info to make the payment and on the screen comes up a hint as follows:
I updated the info for 6 times to make sure it is OK.Every time I update I receive a hint from my bank about $1,which in total is about $6 for 6 times.

if you have performance problems with your table because of lots of different controls in it, then maybe you could try instead of that to create two tables, one for display of rows (only textviews), and the other table for editing only one row (currently selected row). The second (for edit) table can be shown only when you want to add a new row, or edit selected row and it can be hidden when you are finished with editing selected row.
In that way you can have one big table with only textviews and no events, and one small - one row table for editing with dropdowns, datepickers etc.
You can put EditTable(the one for editing) above ShowTable (the one in which you display rows as textviews).

Imovie dvd help needed! Please!

First time making a movie in imovie. I have it exactly the way I want it. Is there a way to burn the way it is in imovie? I really do not want to add any themes from idvd to it. Also, should I make a copy in imovie before trying to do something with it in idvd if there is no way to burn it as the way it is in imovie?

You cannot burn it from iMovie - for one thing it would never fit, nor play anywhere.
You need to let iDVD make a DVD of the movie, and if you don't want any themes:

How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
• create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
• Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
• Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
• Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
• Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
• Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned.If it works save and close myDVDedit.
• Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:

Our resident expert, Old Toad, also recommends this: there is a 3rd export/share option that give better results. That's to use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option. Then in iDVD go to the Media Browser and drag the movie into iDVD where you want it.

Urgent Flash help needed; Using Movie Clip Objects

I am currently trying to design a small flash movie.
I have a "Movie Clip" object (a short animation) that i wish to act like a static object until a certain frame on the main Timeline.
Then i want it to play out, at it's own pace, just like normal, until it finishes (no looping)...
What do i need to put into, and where do i put it?
So in short, frame 30 of the main animation triggers the clip, whilst the main animation still runs...
I know very, very minimal AS3... so please, can someone help me?
A lot of solutions suggest a button, but I don't want to use a button, as it's not interactive - just a movie.
i just want the damn movie clip to play in the damn movie when it reaches frame 30! it shouldn't be that hard..

There is most likely no need for any code. And most likely no need for a movieclip even.
It sounds like you would need a graphic symbol. (You can convert it in the library or you can just change the instance you have placed on stage.)
First select the symbol on its first keyframe and on the properties panel select the looping options and tell it single frame, first 1.
Then move along your timeline to where you want the animation to start playing. Add a keyframe. Now select Once, first 1.
Now it will start playing, you will be able to see it play as you scrub the timeline.
If you use movieclips and code for this, you won't be able to see them play together as you scrub the timeline.

URGENT THREAD HELP NEED!!

I am trying to attach a very basic phone file browser (based on the one bundled with the J2ME toolkit) to an interface and am have great trouble.
I think it is to with not using any threads, which i have no idea about. I searched and read some articles to help, but it has not aided the problem and any changes that i make..make no difference.
I have two classes; one that deals with just transversing through the file system FileSystemBrowser and the other is the GUI that displays the file system graphically called TextReader (ignore the name it will change when the program is finished).

The first method transverseDir(fileName) just adds and removes bits of a file path represented by a string. Nothing to processor intensive. I've tried implementing threads on them but it has made no difference and i dont know if im doing it right or whether they even need to be threaded, because the problem may be in the interface. But if this is so i still dont know where it is and how to fix it.
CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE?

Thats really good stuff to know, but im still not sure what to place inside the thread? (e.g. methods if this is the case which ones or which class), do i need to synchronise anything? if so..what needs to be synchronised? I have read some articles on threading and understand the concepts but i am at a loss when it comes to actual implementing the thread correctly. Because when i have tryed to use threads the same error is thrown:
Warning: To avoid potential deadlock, operations that may block, such as
networking, should be performed in a different thread than the
commandAction() handler.
Can can one give me further directions on where they think i need to use the threads and synchronisation and how?

URGENT! Help Needed (H DISKS)

Dear Folks
PROBLEM: Suddenly, out of the blue without any changes, my computer has started doing this: It runs for 2 seconds then jamms for 10seconds, runs again for 2 seconds, then jamms again for 10 seconds. It doesnt matter what i do, even moving the mouse: it moves for 2 seconds then stops dead for 10 seconds, then moves 2 seconds, then stops for 10 etc etc
WHAT FIXES IT: As you will see frrom my sig, i have two identical SATA Maxtor 80GB Hard Drives connected via SATA. When i disconnect the slave drive (a drive which i only use to bakup large data) the problem fixes itself. I tried another Seagate drive (via IDE) and that doesnt seem to cause any problems. It only seems to occur with the two maxtors in SATA 1 & SATA2. But I have it connected this way for YEARS without ANY PROBLEMS. I dont know what is the problem.
Please help, i cant function without my seconds SATA drive it's got so much data on it i need!

Dear Folks, heres the replies to your queries - some questiones too:
1) CPU TEMP is 48-49 Deg, SYSTEM TEMO is ~36 Deg
2) What is "event viewer" (sorry if thats a newbie question), where do i get access to it? I dont remember copying any new files from that drive or having any applications running from it. It simply is storage. I have two H Disks both connected via SATA to SATA1+SATA2 on the motherboard (next to the slots adjacent to the 'VIA' logo): The 1st one i run windows on and is partioned into three. The second disk (with which I am having the problem) is one single large partition I use for backing up data.
3) I dont have any 3rd HDD installed on IDE. Simply two S-ATA's as mentioned above.
4) I'll do some diagnostics on it - as mentioned below, i should use "SeaTools" yes? Or should i check on the maxtor website?
