Urgent: DVtapes recorded in DVCAM format 50i, 32k audio) - capture settings required?

Hi guys.
I hope you can help.
I have several DV TAPES (wedding footage. long story and the videographer is not assisting me  i am editing my own video) I need to digitise this. I have tried a few settings in adobe premiere, but i'm not sure if the quality of the video is correct, it looks a bit blurry and not as sharp as it could be, especially in low light scenes.  i'm not sure if this is due to poor shooting or if its something i am not doing right...so i need your help..
i have a sony z1 camera on loan  for this weekend and in the view finder, it states DVCAM 50I and 32k audio. (f1.6  / 3db)
in adobe premiere, there is no option of DVCAM, but "DV PAL standard 32k"  and "DVD PAL Widescreen. 32k"..i'm trying to work out the best setting use. i also have 'main concept package' installed too which gives me other possible options..
I want to digitise it properly, so i can start editing..
i hope you can assist...
thank you

Then that's the way it is.  PP doesn't alter the video during a FireWire capture.

  • DVCAM incompatibility? trying to capture...

I'm trying to capture footage from a Sony DCR-VX9000E which records on DVCAM format. I attach the camera via firewire and iMovie says the camera is not attached. I'm trying to connect to a cube, also tried on my g4 powerbook and it won't read it either. Is this possibly a problem between the DVCAM format and iMovie? too complex/too simplistic?? Is it even possible to import footage from this format onto iMOvie? I'm at my wits end. I'm in the Czech Republic. Could it be a region dispute between the Camera (european) and apple? ANY INSIGHT would be amazing.

could i hook up the DCR-VX9000E to my canon x90???
that should work, as long as your canon has a analog.in, and the vx has a anlog-out (.... silly, it has, for sure ).... I hope you get the right cables....
you could give it a try, and do that "live" meaning, using the canon as a "converter" for iMovie.. but lately we got lots of reports, that this "workaround" doesn't work anymore... give it a try: connect everything, caon via firewire to Mac and try an import.. if not, record on tape first, THEN import....
besides to your other question: no, video standards NTSC/PAL are both handled by Mac/iM.........

I was refering to the "sample rate", normally 44.1 KHz, the iPod might not be able to play tracks with a non-standard rate. Otherwise I'm not sure what the issue might be.

  • Ripping a DVD that was recorded in VR format

I've made dozens of DVDs on a Phillips set-top DVD recorder, using DVD+R media. Now, I want to rip them (using Handbrake) so I can watch them on my Apple TV through iTunes. Problem is, Mac won't read the disk. Simply says "You've inserted a blank disk". Ignore or OK are my only choices. I believe the Phillips recorder used VR format. Yes, I finalized the discs when I made them. I also tried making a copy of the original DVD; that didn't help. The disks will play on my Pioneer set-top recorder, and one of my 2 Windows PCs. Problem with ripping them on the PC is that it takes about 3 times longer than on the Mac, and the resulting filesize is about twice as big. Obviously, I want to do this on my Mac! Mac has a Matshita DVD-R UJ-868 drive (factory installed). I would be SO grateful if anybody could help me. I've searched all over the web for help on this, to no avail.

I just pulled out one of my old discs burned on the Philips 985 and made a quick test run on my older PPC Mac G5. If the discs are not being recognized as containing content and they are in fact finalized as you state, then you may have a combination of problems -- a weak burn/LP mode coupled with a possibly dirty lens. If cleaning the Mac optical drive lens does not help to read the discs directly on the Mac and your PC is able to read the discs anyway, my suggestion would be to simply copy the VIDEO_TS folder to an external hard drive attached to your PC. Then connect the external drive to your Mac, open HandBrake, and process your content normally. Since, as you pointed out, the Philips unit does not encrypt the data, the folder should copy without problem assuming the data is not itself corrupt.

You didn't mention what DBMS or scripting language you are using.
The best way to get dates from a user is to supply 3 fields for input; day, month, year - then assemble them into the string format that the DBMS is expecting.

  • Action Cam HDR-AS100VR can't record XAVC-S format, memory card incompatible?

Hello Sony, I've just purchased POV action cam HDR-AS100VR and I want to record XAVC-S format for a smooth and clear output. My initial micro sd card is class 10, 64GB scandisk ultra which I coud'nt useit  to record XAVC-S format because of low read/write speed. So I decide to buy a new memory card, I found a 64 GB Scandisk Extreme Plus with 80Mb/s read and 50Mb/s write. I thought that was enough speed for the cam to record XAVC-S format, but the cam flashes MEDIA when I set it to XAVC-S format. I also tried reformating the sd card to exFAT, but still no luck. Any idea why? is my new memory card(almost US$100) not fast enough for the cam? If you can give me a list of memory card that can actualy record XAVC-S format on this cam will be big help.

    Hi Naz,
This error happens when using a memory card that is not fast enough to record the data being saved by camera. An SDXC Memory Card of Class 10 or faster is required to record using the XAVC S format.
You just need to try other microSDXC card with a faster  write/read speed.

  • Change capture settings to 32k audio sample rate???

I have a DVCAM tape that my client recorded and the audio sample rate is 32k. I have noticed that the audio seems to get out of sync when I capture it using the 48k NTSC. I also get a warning saying that my source tape's audio sample rate doesn't match the capture settings and that audio could be out of sync. I looked at past posts and it does seem to be the 32k verses 48k.
My question is how do I change my capture settings to 32k? I see how you do it on the sequence settings, but I can't figure it out on the capture settings.
    Thanks,
    John Schenkel

    John,
I recently read a post where there were four likely answers to the problem, yet I was not sure which one was the best solution.
Why? Because even though the question was marked as answered the person posting the original question didn't mark which individual's answer was the solution.
Please help future users to find answers more quickly, who knows, you may find yourself in the same situation someday.

  • Importing 32K audio?

    Hi,
I recently received a mini DV tape from a closed captioning company that I am having difficulty importing all the audio tracks from. I sent them the original Mini DV 48K audio tape which they then added an audio track containing audio description sending me back a new Mini DV tape back with 32K audio.
    What I have:
    Deck: Sony DSR-11
    Final Cut Pro 5.0.4
Tape I am trying to import: Minin DV with NS 32K audio
Issue: When importing the audio from this tape, I only get the original two audio tracks off this tape. However, the audio track containing the audio description does not import even though I hear it while the tape is playing.
My research: I looked up FS32K audio and FS48K audio in the manual of my Sony deck. I learned FS32K has 4 audio tracks and FS48K has 2 audio tracks.
Question: Is there any way I can import all audio tracks off this tape?
    Thank you.

Hi, I kind of hacked my way through this.
    Audio/Video Setting... --> Capture Presets --> Edit
Made a custom setting with the following changes:
Changes made under "QuickTime Audio Setting"
"Input" changed from First 2 Channels to Second 2 Channels.
"Format" changed from 48.000 kHz 16 bit 2 chan to 32.000 kHz 16 bit 2 chan
After making these changes, I then successfully imported the audio description track. However, I have not been able to figure out how to import all 4 audio tracks at once. If anyone knows, please let me know. In the meantime, I hope this post helps anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation.

  • Format Hard Drive for Capture w/ FCP and use on PC?

Can someone tell me how I can format a hard drive that will ultimately be used by a client with only PC's -- so that I can capture video on my Mac using FCP?
In the past, I thought FCP broke up captured video into 2 GB segments when a hard drive was formatted for MS-DOS. But tonight I formatted my client's external hd using Disk Utility and the drive wasn't even available under system settings on FCP.
I'm really not at all PC-savvy anymore...can someone tell me if there is way to do this?
If it matters, I'm capturing home video from several sources: Canopus ADVC-300, and mini-DV tapes using a Sony camcorder.
    Thanks!
    Jenny

Thank you so much. The NTFS-3G did the trick. I have one more dumb question (again...I'm completely PC-illiterate). Would .dv be the best format for me to capture video again for a client who is a home user of a PC? I was planning to capture with FCP (in .mov format) -- but perhaps for ease of use for the client, I should use Toast or iMovie and capture in .dv?
Again...thanks for your help. This is the first time I've encountered this situation!

  • Audio capture recording .mov - .m4a

I accidentally saved an audio capture recording with QT without switching it to save as audio. It's now a .mov (saved as movie) instead of .m4a. How do I convert from the .mov to .m4a? Also, is there any way to make it save as audio (.m4a) by default?

Ah, yes, that works! Thank you.
A follow-up question: When audio capture is stopped, how can the client program find out when all the audio data has been written to a file on the server. The client needs to know this to perform subsequent operations on the audio file.

i need codec format to support audio to play movies

Just download the free, open-source media player VLC. It plays pretty much anything.Get VLC here:

Also, beware of dodgy internet sites that say you can't play a movie and offer to install a 'codec' for you. They're typically malware or spyware.

  • Any app that allows me to record the last few minutes of audio continuously?

I need an app that allows me to record the last N minutes of audio continuously until I stop it.
So, say I want it to record just the last 5 minutes of audio.
I could potentially have it recording for hours but I don't want an audio file that is mutli hours long - I just want the last 5 minutes.
You might ask, why I would want this ?
Say, you're trying to record something, but you don't know exactly when it'll happen, and when it a happens, it doesn't last long enough for you to turn on the phone and start recording.

I saw an app exactly like that in the App store months ago.
    It was for lecutres primarly.
When opened it always "records" like to build a buffer though not really saving.  When you press record it will start really saving and can go back a ways based on options.  So a student can listen to lecture but only press the record button when wanting to save something and have it able to save back x amount of time and forward until told to stop.
Sounds like exactly what you want.  I just don't remember what it is called.
