(URGENT) eMac with leopard running FCE 2?

I have an apple eMac running 10.5.8 and i got a great deal on FCE 2.0 i was wondering if this would work on the machine?

Yes, FCE 2 should run fine on an eMac with 10.5.8
If it were me, I'd prefer FCE 3 or 3.5 on your machine but if your deal is for FCE 2, you'll be fine.

  • A few problems with Leopard running on my White iMac...

I have only found 2 problems so far with Leopard running on my iMac. First off, the most annoying one:
Sometimes, especially when switching users, the screen turns to the "gray screen of death." You know, the one with the request to restart your computer in like 4 languages and a huge picture of a power button... anyway, it is getting quite annoying and I wish I could make it stop. It has also happened when I have been dealing with moving large amounts of data, "large pictures, movies, etc.)
And now, the second problem. I was just looking up the memory left on my hard drive when I noticed something I hadn't before. my 160gb hard drive had 50gb left. not too strange there. but when I checked through all the things (apps, users, system, library, developer, etc.) in it (I simply did apple-i and checked the gb each of them took up) and after a quick add-up on my calculator widget, all the things in the hard drive added up to 50gb. so I have 50gb free, 50gb used and a 160gb hard drive. How does that work? Do I need to do something to get that extra 60gb back or is it just gone???

Is there any way just to show hidden folders like on a PC?
There's probably a way to coerce Finder.app into showing everything
(all is possible in unix) -- but I don't know the OS-X magic words.
It told me that improper of the "sudo" command could lead to data loss
and i don't want to risk doing anything stupid (like a misspelling) that
could lead to my hard drive being wrecked.
Good advice. IMO, the 'du' (disk usage) command is safe, because it's
'read only' -- but I undestand that you'd be hesitant to trust your data
to advice fom an anonymous voice from "The Internets." I can't/won't
    argue with common sense.
You can run the same command without the 'sudo' prefix. It might
miss a few things and/or spit some 'permission denied' messages,
but the results will at least be a lower-bound of disk usage.

  • Does your eMac with Leopard have a sleep/wake problem?

My question is,does anyone with an eMac running Leopadd 10.5.8 have a problem waking the compiter after putting it to sleep for an hour? I am having this problem with my eMac after upgrading from Tiger which didn't have this problem. Thanks

    Hi, not here...
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: eMac
    Model Identifier: PowerMac6,4
    Processor Name: PowerPC G4 (1.2)
    Processor Speed: 1.42 GHz
    Number Of CPUs: 1
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.9.2f1
If it did OK in 10.4, then I suspect some 3rd party App or Extension.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport in 10.4 & below, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Urgent: Help With Background Run

    Hi,
I am attempting to run a program in background that downloads excel into a specified directory. But I am encountering an error in the background job, apparently the program is calling function WS_QUERY, which is of course cannot be run in bakcground( ?).  But If I execute the program in foreground, I cant seem to find how this FM is called by my program? Any ideas?
Also, the program uses several screens and uses sy-ucomm for several routines. Would this still work in background?
I really need help asap. Please help.
    Thanks a lot.
    Kenny

There is no download in the background, only working with SERVER files calles DATASETs.
If you want to know what's happening in background, add this code somewhere in your program:
    <pre>
    perform wait_user.
    form wait_user.
      data:
         lv_wait type flag value 'X'.
      while lv_wait is not initial.
      endwhile.
    endform.
    </pre>
Start the program in background. Go to SM37 Job overview. Use menu JOB->Catch active job.
You are in debugger. Set breakpoints as desired. Switch on system debugging. Clear field lv_wait. Contnue or go step through the code.

  • Etended Desktop Stopped Working With Leopard..

With regards to an iMac 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 with 1GB DDR SDRAM, I upgraded to Leopard (vs 10.5.2). At first, the computer would not boot up and all I got was a blue screen. I've worked through that mess, but now I have lost the option for extended desktop. When I go to System Preferences > Displays > Display Preferences, there is no arrangement tab. When I go through the help screens, I get a message that says there is no arrangement tab as the computer is not capable of doing this.
Before I upgraded to Leopard, I had no problem using extended desktop with dual monitors. Now all I get is mirrored desktop on both screens.
My question is, is it possible that there is not enough RAM to support the extended desktop and that is why it is not showing up as an option? With Leopard running and nothing else, there is less than 200 Mb of RAM left for everything else. My computer has 1 GB of RAM.

That fixed it. I did not know that my extended desktop was being provided by Screen Spanning Doctor. Once I found it on my computer and enabled it, I was able to use the arrangement tab in display preferences and everything is back to normal.
    Thank you!
BTW, for anyone wondering, Screen Spanning Doctor works flawlessly with Leopard!

  • FCE 2.0.2 compatible with Leopard?

Just got a new MBP last week and borrowed a friend's old Final Cut Express 2.0.2 that's back from like 2004.
Before, when I had Tiger running, FCE ran perfectly normal. After installing Leopard, I noticed a few bugs with FCE. Can FCE 2.0.2 ever be able to run with leopard? Or do I have to buy the upgrade for FCE?
    Also:
Can I buy the upgrade for FCE HD? Or do I have to buy the whole package?(I'm on a college budget)
    -Much appreciated!

It's not Leopard that's messing up FCE so much as the fact that you're running it on an Intel machine- 2.0.2 was made for PowerPC computers. That having been said, Leopard may still be the root of some of your problems as a 10.x.0 release will always be buggy, but that should be fixed within a month or so.
As for upgrading, if you are purchasing with the educational discount, you are not eligible for the upgrade package. I believe the educational price on FCE3.5 (the newest and Intel native version) is $200 or so.

  • Running eMac with Broken CRT... Dangerous? Disconnect-able?

I have on hand a 1.25ghz emac. The logic board and all hardware work. The CRT was damaged in shipping. At start up, there is a "squeel" and a little bit of a spark in the back. I've been using it "in proxy" with Leopard's "Share Screen" mode. Pretty slick! But what risk am I posing by using an eMac with the Broken CRT?
If no "hazardous" elements are involved, can the power to the display be disconnected from the down converter or something? Leaving the power to go to the Mobo? It would be nice to not have the CRT being powered up....
    Thanks in advance.
    Dave

If it is making a noise and sparking, that ought to be corrected to be safe.

The article seems partly experimental rather than proven, but you may get some useful understanding of what is involved.
If you succeed, post back and tell us the outcome. I am not one to throw away things if only one component has gone, so I applaud your resourcefulness. Just don't get zapped! Good luck.

  • Running Office 98 or Office 2001 for the Mac with Leopard

Is it possible to run Office 98 or Office 2001 with Leopard?

Can run OS 9.2.2 along with Leopard and access the Office programs that way, and if so do you have to restart the computer to access OS 9.2.2 or can you just launch OS 9.2.2?

  • Can I run hardware test and repair a disk with Leopard using 10.3 DVD

    Hi,
I'm trying to decide whether to partition and clone Leopard to my external or partition and install Tiger on the external.
My iMac came with 10.3.6 install and hardware test DVD's and they (Comp USA) gave me a Tiger drop-in DVD. I upgraded to Leopard through a family pack DVD (when I told my friend I would by one of the install's I thought I would get a DVD, but you only get an install license, oh well). By the way, Leopard runs great in my rev A iMac G5.
I'm trying to figure out which os to use on the external as a safe-boot incase something happens. If I clone Leopard onto a partition for backup/boot, can I still use the Disc Repair (not permissions) and Hardware Test from the 10.3 or Tiger DVD's to maintain that permission should something bad happen? The way I see it, i'll be able to repair permissions on both the main and external drives using Leopard's disc utility, but I'm not sure if I can repair a Leopard disk or do Hardware Test on that disc using an earlier version of OSX install/Hardware Test DVD's.
Will earlier versions of OSX repair a Leopard disk and be able run Hardware Test?
    Thanks for the help,
    LowBb

Yes, that seems to be the case, but I didn't do good enough research when he asked if I wanted a license for Leopard. For some reason, I had it in my mind that a Family pack came with multi DVD's for people. Maybe that's why he sold me a license so cheap. I thought I was getting a bargin, you get what you pay for.
So, I have the hardware test DVD's that came with the iMac and the Tiger drop-in is just an upgrade with no Hardware Test, you are correct.
But: (let me make sure I have this right) I should not use the 10.3 DVD's or the Tiger drop-in to repair a disc (not permissions) on a hard drive running Leopard. Is this what you are saying? I kind of thought this would be the case. If it is, I'm going to install MY stuff that I have the DVD's for on the external as an emergency boot disc.

  • Wanting to run FCE or FCP on iMac 2.4ghz CD2 with 4gig RAM. Enough Power??

Considering what used Mac to buy to run FCE or FCP.
Had considered a Power Mac G5 with 2+ghz dual processors and 2G+ of RAM.
Thinking maybe an iMac with Intel and equivalent power would be better (because of the Intel rather than PowerPC)
    Thoughts?
    Advice?
    Thanks

    Al and Martin,
Thanks for your responses. I bought a 2002 Quicksilver, not knowing what I was looking for, and the harddrive crashed immediately (message from God?). I was going to upgrade to a nice G5 but now I think there is no point and am trying to get something with an Intel. At this point, the budget has been reduced to 500 or less. I know there are some iMacs out there for less I just have to find the right one...
I'd like Dual 2hz with at least 2G of RAM. You think 2G is enough? I'll mainly be editing simple projects like DOCS and short narratives. No special effects, etc

  • Anyone running L8 with Leopard

Who knows if Leapord is going to kill all my plugins or will I have to get loads of updates

I tried a migration install on my MacPro.
So I left my Tiger install intact, installed Leo .527 on another HD and migrated everything over.
Most of the plugs needed to manually be authorized in the AU Manager after the first run through.
Sorry, I can't remember which did and which didn't stay authorized. But not all of them worked.
Yes my Waves SSL and Ir needed to be reauthorized.
But Logic 8 and 90% of my plugs worked without changing anything.
Bfd, EzDrummer, Ivory, Wave Arts, Sonaklsis, Celemony, ArtsAcoustic, PSP, Camel Audio, IK Multimedia all worked, a couple needed to rerun the serial # install, then worked. I didn't go any further with Waves as I'd like to save that call for the legit version of Leo.
Everything worked great in Leopard, I didn't spend a lot of time using it as I had a deadline. But the only thing that crashed was Safari 3.0 (beta) and I figured Leopard was beta then as well.
The only thing stopping me is my Waves authorizing, I'm going to pop over the Waves forum and see where we're at with Leopard and Waves.
Can't wait, Leopard seems like a very impressive update for OS X, but for sure not worth it if I didn't have all my plugs available.
If you can I'd try and leave a Tiger install accessible so that you're not totally without all your plugs.
I don't know why Waves wouldn't work as long as you're WUP is up to date, everyone should be able to just reauthorize them at Waves. I have to say, some people said they couldn't get Waves to run on 10.4.9, I have it running on 10.4.10 no problems.
Going to be a busy month our two on the support forums as everyone starts updating to Leopard.
    Later

  • Using a video adapter with Leopard

I have a fellow teacher who has always used her eMac with a video adapter to connect to her TV to share with her students what was on her screen. During the summer, her eMac was updated to Leopard. Now nothing will show on her TV. The adapter works on an eMac running Tiger, but not the Leopard machine. I see where early complaints of Leopard included not being able to use a video adapter, but is there now a "work around"? The computer recognizes the fact that an adapter is used if you click on the display icon on the menu bar, but nothing shows up on the TV - any ideas???

I'd like to know about a workaround too. My guess is there isn't one if the eMac only has one video output. What it seems that Leopard does is try to recalibrate settings for every new monitor, and it doesn't work well with the video adapter. If you're able to view the eMac WHILE the monitor adapter is connected, maybe you can try changing the settings under "displays" (bring colors down from millions to thousands, change from NTSC to PAL, etc...see if any of that gives you TV picture.)

  • IPhoto 5.0.4 with Leopard 10.5.x?

I'm going to upgrade our eMac to 10.5 with iPhoto 5.0.4 and I don't know if it will run in Leopard. iPhoto for Panther (v.2.0.1) got busted with Leopard upgrade.
    If no, what to do?

Yes iPhoto 5 is fine with Leopard - although there are lots of reasons to go ahead and upgrade to iLife '09 with iPhoto '09 - but it is not necessary

  • Microsoft Office X (10.1.4) working fine with Leopard

I thought I would let the forum know, because I had been discussing it in the forums myself--I installed Microsoft Office X (10.1.4) without difficulty on my MacBook Pro, which is running Leopard 10.5.1. This was yesterday, but so far I've launched Excel (I don't use that much), opened and viewed a presentation in PowerPoint, opened, written and saved documents in Word, and imported all my Entourage data from my last computer into Entourage and have been using Entourage's mail functions extensively. So if anyone's wondering if they can keep using Office X with Leopard, the answer is, yes, it appears to be as stable as it was with Panther and Tiger, at least!

I am able to launch and use all of M$ Office X but I have encountered a problem with my work eMac running Leopard when I have to print multiple documents. Every third (or so) printing request when I am printing out a series of documents results in a crash. I am fairly certain that there's a corruption on the M$ side and one of these days will just re-install the software because it's a minor pain to have to re-open. Otherwise, it works fine. I haven't printed large amounts from my powerbook so I don't know if I would have the same problem.
