Hai,
Can Anyone help me for the following Error:
ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (200) exceeded
Urgent.
Thanks in Advance.

Increase the init.ora paramere processes from 200 (default) to whatever you need.

    how to resolve this problem.it is verry verry urgent.

    Hi
    "Maximum number of processes exceeded" will be alerted when your database has received a request for connection from a process which is beyond the number of processes your database can allow for.
    Please check your database parameters
    show parameters processes
    Couple of options:
    a) If your database has been running for a while and if it's the first time you are recieving this error, please check why all of a sudden more and more processes have been created. You may want to investigate your application, users, etc
    b) If it's a valid request and if it's the case that you haven't really configured enough processes, you will have to increase the PROCESSES parameter in your init file and restart the database. It's not a dynamic parameter. Also, make sure you increase the sessions parameter as well along with the processes.
    Before you do this, you will also have to check if your OS has been configured for increasing the number of processes. Think it's semmsl in Unix.

  • Urgent: Error ORA-01555 "snapshot too old rollback segment too small"

    I get this error when I do a "SELECT" on a few very large tables for a report. Isn't there a way out? Our DBA says our rollback segment size cannot be increased anymore. All I care of is the SELECT statement to finish executing. It is okay for me to have some inconsistency in the data (dirty reads). What is the easiest way to solve this problem? I CANNOT breakup the SELECT statement into multiple statements.
    Thanks in advance

    Oracle cannot be configured to give you dirty reads.
    Setting your transaction to be READ ONLY probably won't help too much-- the problem here is that when you go to SELECT a particular row, Oracle discovers that the value in the row has changed since the start of your query and the old value is not present in the rollback segments.
    How are your rollback segments configured? Perhaps you don't need to allocate additional space to them-- perhaps you can simply increase their OPTIMAL size.
    What version of Oracle are you on? If you are on 9i or above, I would strongly consider moving to automatic UNDO management, which vastly simplifies rollback (undo) administration.

  • ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (500) exceeded

    Problem Details:
    In our Database we are getting huge number of open connection from remote system.
    Let say, our application A and remote application name is B.
    Some common users of application A are USER0, USER1, USER2.
    Remote Application B uses USER0 to create views on application A's table through Database Link.
    Those views (nearly 100) are accessed in application B at several places from the Java code.
    Since those views are getting called almost all the times from the application B's code, DB link is in use almost all the time - holding many number of connections (check the first row of the query output).
    Many times the open connections remaining high and any other application, users trying to connect to application A,
    getting the ORA-00020 error.
    Note :
    1. Application B is very old application and does not use open DB link or close DB link.
    2. Application B tried with "alter session close Database link xxx", it decrease the number of open connection but its degrading the performance of application B at large scale.
    3. To cope up with this problem Application A recently incraesed the parameter process=500, but not sure if this limit can also be broken through Application B
    Questions/Doubts:
    1) What is best approach to handle this problem??
    'alter session close database link xxx' is the only option from application B's point ??
    What other approach can be taken??
    2) We are not sure the risk associated with increasing the process parameter value ??
    Appreciate your suggestion !!

    ERROR:
    ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (500) exceeded
    Warning: You are no longer connected to ORACLE.

    semmsl in Linux tells what the max number of processes are. You have to make sure this is equal to the process parameter of all instances plus 10.
    It is usually in /etc/sysctl.conf
    kernel.sem = 250 32000 100 128
    SEMMSL
    The SEMMSL kernel parameter is used to control the maximum number of semaphores per semaphore set.
    Oracle recommends setting SEMMSL to the largest PROCESS instance parameter setting in the init.ora file for all databases hosted on the Linux system plus 10. Also, Oracle recommends setting the SEMMSL to a value of no less than 100.
    SEMMNI
    The SEMMNI kernel parameter is used to control the maximum number of semaphore sets on the entire Linux system.
    Oracle recommends setting the SEMMNI to a value of no less than 100.
    SEMMNS
    The SEMMNS kernel parameter is used to control the maximum number of semaphores (not semaphore sets) on the entire Linux system.
    Oracle recommends setting the SEMMNS to the sum of the PROCESSES instance parameter setting for each database on the system, adding the largest PROCESSES twice, and then finally adding 10 for each Oracle database on the system. To summarize:
    SEMMNS = sum of PROCESSES setting for each database on the system
    + ( 2 * [largest PROCESSES setting])
    + (10 * [number of databases on system]
    To determine the maximum number of semaphores that can be allocated on a Linux system, use the following calculation. It will be the lesser of:
    SEMMNS -or- (SEMMSL * SEMMNI)
    SEMOPM
    The SEMOPM kernel parameter is used to control the number of semaphore operations that can be performed per semop system call.
    The semop system call (function) provides the ability to do operations for multiple semaphores with one semop system call. A semaphore set can have the maximum number of SEMMSL semaphores per semaphore set and is therefore recommended to set SEMOPM equal to SEMMSL.
    Oracle recommends setting the SEMOPM to a value of no less than 100.
    App B could try using connection pooling or something to reduce the number of connections to the DB.

  • ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (25) exceeded ... uh?

    Hello,
    I'm trying to run a distributed simulation (13 programs x host,
    16 hosts) that uses oracle (normally in an HP) against oracle on
    linux.
    I can't start all the programs, after about 20 clients (+-) no
    other program will come up, and if i try to log to oracle with
    sqlplus i get:
    ERROR:
    ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (25) exceeded
    Is this a static limit imposed in the version oracle is
    distributing for testing purposes?
    Also, i notice that one server process is started for each client
    program. So the distributed version doesn't support multithreaded
    servers? Or may be i configured it wrong?

  • ORA-00020 error, max connections reached

    I tried logging into TOAD from back-end but it started giving error like 'ORA-00020, maximum no of connections exceeded...'. What, are the steps we can take to counter this.
    I hope, my question is clear.
    Please, help in solving the doubt.

    hi,
    thanks, for your answer. But, in init.ora, the entries are like:-
    # Processes and Sessions
    #processes=250
    processes=300
    Is, there a difference from this in the maximum sessions possible which is given by 'sessions' parameter as
    SQL> connect /as sysdba
    SQL> show parameters sessions
    When, I give :-
    select count(1) from v$session
    it gives 460.
    Can, you please clear the doubts in the scenario put as above.

    Regards,
    Bhavik Desai

    You should check alert log file on database like Alex told you.
    And please post Error ;)
    But If You can access +ASM, Or ...by the way... if you stop database ... try to check ASM diskgroup.
    $ export ORACLE_SID=+ASM1
    $ sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL> set lines 130
    SQL> set pages 10000
    SQL> select NAME, TOTAL_MB, FREE_MB from v$asm_diskgroup;
    If your DISKGROUPs for archivelog on DB full... backup or delete them
    (please start database mount mode)
    $ export ORACLE_SID=DB1
    $ sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL> startup mount;
    SQL> show parameter log_archive_dest
    backup archivelog
    $ rman target /
    RMAN> backup ARCHIVELOG ALL DELETE INPUT format 'ARCH_%d_%U' ;
    or delete
    $ rman target /
    RMAN> delete ARCHIVELOG ALL ;
    After that ...
    $ sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL> alter database open
    This justs my suggestion, if your database has the problem with ASM diskgroup full ... because archvielog...
    By the way... please post your result from ASM query and alert log file
    Good Luck

  • Report error:ORA-06502:character string buffer too small. urgent!!

    Hi guys,
    My APEX version is 3.0.1.00.08, my application run on my test environment, but on PROD environment, it raised the error:
    report error:
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    In this page, on the left is a tree, the right side is a tabular form, when I click one tree node, it will pass the current node id to the form and the form will display the children data. When I click some tree node, it will raise the ORA-06502 error, but when click some other nodes, it is correct. I don't know why. And on my test environment, it has no this error, the test environment has same version with prod environment, only has less data in database. Could you help me???
    I searched in forum, someone says it's LOV problem, if it's LOV problem, all the nodes should have error, why click some nodes are ok?
    Thanks !
    Jessica

    I don't think it is related only to the number of rows but also to the content of the rows. So, counting only the number of rows doesn't say anything about if it is going to work or not. My question: can't you filter those entries? Making a choice between 250 entries in a tabular form isn't a simple task. Using popup-key LOV instead would also be a solution. However, if you use popup-key LOV be aware of the fact that you need two index numbers for those.

  • Urgent! Error: ORA-01034 Oracle not available for Oracle10gi

    I have used SQL*Plus for a while, but recently when I try to login there is this error message:
    Error:
    ORA-01034 ORACLE not available
    ORA-27101 shared memory realm does not exist
    I had search for the solution quite a while. I changed the "sqlnet.ora" from C:\OraHome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN
    I changed SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=NT; to SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=NONE and then reboot the machine.
    The weird thing is that sometimes it works after I reboot the machine, but recently this just doesn't work any more. The SQL*Plus generates the same error message as I wrote above.
    It seems like this kind of problem has troubled lots of oracle database users. IS this a bug that exists in the Oracle10gi?
    Or does Oracle10gi require to run on certain operating system platform like Windows XP Professional but does not support for Windows XP Home Edition?
    Can the Oracle company provide some error solution guide for the public for their own system?
    many thanks

    No this specific error message is not a result of an Oracle bug to my knowledge.
    In my experience it is a simple matter of not using Oracle correctly. Only it is not that simple from a pure end-user perspective as Oracle is not a mickey mouse little filing system that pretends to be a database (like MS Access).
    Which makes sense. After all, driving a bicycle does not mean one is able to get on a superbike. And if you respond "what!! why is it a superbike!?" then you need a bicycle in the first place.
    The cause of the error you list - the client is making a local IPC dedicated server connection to the Oracle instance. This fails as the dedicated server cannot find the Oracle SGA (shared memory area) to attached to. This is usually the result of
    a) the Oracle instance is down (and thus the SGA does not exist)
    b) the ORACLE_SID used by the client is incorrect (and thus it attempts to attach to a non-existant SGA)
    Reason (a) could be caused by some underlaying issue that results in the Oracle instance shutting down automatically or unintentionally.
    As for what Oracle 10G requires operating system wise. There are detailed platform certification matrixes on the Oracle web site. In addition, the INSTALLATION notes of Oracle also specifies what platforms are supported.
    You also fail to mention the exact Oracle product you're running. Oracle XE is different than Oracle Standard Edition which is different than Oracle Enterprise Edition.
    There is btw a dedicated support forum here for Oracle XE - and this one ain't it.

    You're attempting to go across SQL*Net. I'm a unix guy so I can't help very much except to point this out.
    On Unix I'd either undefine the TWO_TASK environmental variable. Probably a reg entry on 2k.
    Or configure Sql*Net.

  • Urgent-Oracle Error :: ORA-39778-

    Hi
    I got following Oracle Error : ORA-39778 "the parallel load option is not allowed when loading lob columns" on production. yesterday we updated database with patchset 9.2.0.7 and DST/JVM compliant.
    Please reply me ASAP.
    Regards,
    RJ

    Sry I didn't check back this afternoon.
    As posted,
    Here's the note from metalink doc Note:396387.1
    Then e this to apply the files manually in the following way:
    Download the identified patch.
    Unzip the patch, and locate the 2 files timezone.dat and timezlrg.dat in the "files/oracore/zoneinfo" directory of the uncompressed patch (or from the relevant .jar file of a patchset). If there is also a readme.txt in this location then make a note of this as well.
    Backup your existing files in $ORACLE_HOME/oracore/zoneinfo - THIS CAN BE VITAL, DO NOT SKIP.
    Copy the 2 .dat files and possibly the readme.txt file that were found in step 2 into the $ORACLE_HOME/oracore/zoneinfo directory.
    Restart the database (in case of installation on a database), or restart the client applications (in case of client install). Note that the database did not need to be down before the time zone files were applied, but it does need to be restarted afterwards.
