URGENT FIREWIRE NOT DETECTED

Hi.
I've just bought a new intel iMac 2.66ghz and installed FCS.
I just attempted to capture from a dv tape for the first time and it came up with the message...
"unable to initialize tape deck, you may still log offline clips or use capture now"
when i attempt to use capture now it says..
"attempt to capture video without a video device selected. please select a video device in your capture presets and try again"
I have the capture settings set to Firewire PAL DV PAL 48khz Anamorphic
I am capturing off of a Panasonic NV-GS320 - I've captured off of this camera onto an iMac in the past (a white one, I'm assuming it was not an intel based)
When i try and check if the camera is detected in the system profiler it says "unable to list firewire devices" next to the word 'warning'
However when i have no firewire cable inserted it says nothing except the max speed.
Is my firewire not being detected or is faulty?
Can anyone help me please!? I have a project due in that i need to start but i cannot capture!
Any help would be Much appreciated

Have you done all of this:
In the FCP menu bar, go to Final cut Pro > Easy Setup. Choose DV PAL. Click OK.
Go to Sequence > Settings and click on "Load Sequence Preset". It will already be set to DV PAL, confirm by clicking OK. Make a new project file with these settings. Try capturing your material again.
What version of Final Cut Pro are you using ?

  • Firewire not detected by FCP with OS-X 10.4.10 (Tiger), worked fine w 10.3.

Hi all, hope some one can help, I just upgraded to Tiger OS (OX-X 10.4.10) from latest updated OS, now FCP dos not find the 720 x 480 Firewire Device for external video, I use an ADVC 110 converter that was working very well to "Print Video to Tape" on a betaca SP VTR, i readed most of the support pages, did the erase FC preferences on user folder, reinstalled FCP 4.5 (That is my FCP Version), also downloaded and installed the FCP 4.5 Update from the FCP Update Webpage, Also erased the complete FCP an all referenced files on my hard disk and reinstalled FCP, last i did was connect my Sony DSR 300 Camera and still FCP can't find it, It's only not detected on FCP, the computer DOES recognize both (ADVC and Camera) on the Firewire connection at System Proffiler, do you think that an OSX Clean Install would fix this ?

Before you updated to 10.4.10 did you do a search of these forum pages to discover what you were doing was going to be wrong? Evidently not. There are literally dozens of messages like yours warning of what would happen.
FCP 4.5 was optimized for OSX 10.3. Some people have been able to run it on OSX 10.4. But it's not designed to run with that.
Did you also update your Quicktime to 7.2? If so that will break many things. You must go back to Quicktime 6 with updates.

  • Urgent* Device Not Detected by Firewire

I'm using a 20" iMac 10.4.1, FCP 5.1.4 along with the Panasonic Pv-GS250 and trying to capture footage. The camcorder is set to playback. FCP is showing Unable to Initialize. System profiler doesn't show the camcorder as being plugged in under the firewire section. What do I do?

You need to isolate the problem. Is it the computers FireWire port, the cable or the camera?
I have used the cable before with a different camera.
This other camera would be the next thing to try, until you can beg, steal or borrow another device, such as a FireWire extermal hard drive to see if that shows up.

  • Firewire not detected...

I plugged my external hard drive via fire wire into the back of my mac pro.
I plugged my Panasonic mini-dv camera into the front. When I boot up FCP, the computer/program doesn't recognize that a video device is plugged in.
Any way to activate that fire wire port on the front of the computer?

Any way to activate that fire wire port on the front of the computer?
It probably is activated. Try plugging your external hard drive to the front port.
If it works, then you know the problem is not the port.
Once you've determined that the port works, plug your camera into it.
Make sure the camera is in playback (VCR) mode, not camera mode.
As Nick suggests, you might need to try another cable.
In FCP, it may be necessary to choose an appropriate setup.
If you select Audio/Video Settings (command-option-Q),
you'll see tabs for Capture Settings and Device Control Settings.
Normally, these should be NTSC (DV and Firewire, respectively).

  • I connect video camera to mac mini, but not detected firewire

i have mac mini. I connect a video camera to my computer via firewire. i try capture video in fcp and imovi, but firewire not detected. when i open imovy and import video, then show the massage "camera not connected". please help me.

No, nothing will show on the desktop - that only happens with card-based cameras (which are usually connected via USB).
But, make sure your camera is turned on, and in playback mode. Do you have another Firewire cable you can test, in case that cable is bad? Try also the tips in this document:

  • Video Camera not detected through Firewire

I've been having trouble connecting my video camera to my computer for importing video into Final Cut.
After some deduction, my main conclusion/concern is that when I hook up my Canon minidv camera to the computer via firewire 400, it fails to show up in the system profiler under hardware>firewire.
I first tried all sorts of hookup sequences (involving turning off/on cpu, off/on camera, off/on program, and plugging firewire at certain times) No luck. Final Cut could not detect camera.
Secondly, tried the same thing with iMovie, but same result.
Thirdly, I bought a new firewire cable. Still didn't work.
Then, I switched my Canon with my friend's Sony video cam. Same result.
What's confusing is my Mac Pro's firewire 400 port works. I connect a Maxtor external hard drive, it is recognized, and it mounts all the time without a problem (I can also see the drive's info through system profiler.) However, when I connect my camera to the comp, and open system profiler's firewire status, I get the spinning wheel for a bit, then it says "Warning: Unable to list FireWire devices." Sometimes I don't even get that message, and system profiler just stays the same saying "FireWire Bus>Built in Hub" as if nothing is connected at all.
I also tried daisy-chaining the camera through the recognized external hd to the comp. Though, when I attempted to check the status in system profiler, the computer froze and I had to hard shutdown. Not good.
I've attempted all I can think of. Any help and suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

is the camera on apple's "approved" list? I forget where to find it but there is or was such a list. do you have any other fw devices connected? for whatever reasons, often cameras must be the only fw device connected. My first attempt would be to turn on the device and connect it with no other fw devices connected. If it did not work, I would begin my standard hardware trouble shooting which consists of booting from my clean system hd that I normally keep on a shelf. It is an HD image of my system as it came from Apple. In your case I'd get an HD and install a clean 10.4 on the HD (without updates) and try connecting after that. IF 10.4 works you could try updating to 10.4.11 and so forth. Doing this process requires two drives so you can keep a good working boot drive while continuing to update till there is a problem. This supposes it's a software issue. Doing some searching on your camera make/model and cross referencing with apple and firewire should give you an idea as to whether others are having trouble and whether it's a common problem or a software issue. If others are having no issues then hopefully it's software. Another option would be to get a deck. I use a basic dv deck and you might want to go that route too. it's a much better thing in the long run anyway and if you can afford it and can find a known-good deck it would save a lot of trouble shooting time and hassle. obviously get one you can return if it doesn't connect.

  • 3rd Gen, XP SP2 only charges, does not detect, firewire

Hello, my ipod only charges when i plug it in. I tried it on a mac OSX Dual G5 and it only charges there also.
Windows does not even detect the ipod (or Mac OSX). I've tried several different cables. Uninstalling itunes, then rebooting.
Rebooted Ipod. still no luck. I also tried to remove firewire, then reinstall then reboot.
Any ideas? I even tried to clean the connections...
    I have
    Itunes 6.0.2.23
Windows XP SP2 with all patches.
oh, and the ipod plays music on its own fine... thanks

    Nope, separate download.
If it is not detected on two different machines using different cables it looks like it's the iPod at fault. You've already tried a reset have you tried putting the iPod into forced disk mode (method varies depending on which gen of iPod you are using - look on the apple site for details)and then connecting - if neither OS can see it, it sounds like you've got a hardware problem. Sending it back to apple for repair (or taking it in to an apple shop) may be your only option. You might want to try running the Updater, but if neither machine can see the iPod then it probably won't see it either.

  • Macbook Pro Not detecting my FireWire

    Hello,
I just had an accident a few months ago that caused many of the ports of my MacBook Pro to be crushed, however, i had the ports and logic board replaced so it should be working now. However, when i plugged in my FireWire to import a video i had shot on my Camcorder, the camera detected the FireWire but my Mac did not. I tried rebooting to solve the issue, but for some reason my Mac is not detecting the FireWire at all. The FireWire is an Apple WireFire 800 and the camera it is connected to is a Canon VIXIA HV30. I need to use my FireWire for University Classes and an internship i have. How can i fix this?

This camera is supported. You need a Firewire Cable. For FW400, you need a 4 pin to 6 pin cable. For FW 800 you need 4 pin to 9 pin cable. When going down from 6 pins (or 9) to 4, you lose the pins that provide power. So your camcorder must be plugged in to wall power (not batteries). Make sure your camcorder is in Playback mode.
Open iMovie. If it is not detected automatically in a miinute or two, try clicking on the camera icon at the left of the middle bar.

  • I installed OS X Mavericks and now my Epson Scanner Perfection Series V330 Photo refuses to open. Is there a new driver available? I am scanning my work for a book publication and I need my scanner urgently. I tried Image capture but scanner is not detect

I installed OS X Mavericks and now my Epson Scanner Perfection Series V330 Photo refuses to open. Is there a new driver available? I am scanning my work for a book publication and I need my scanner urgently. I tried Image capture but scanner is not detected.

Looks like all Epson scanners will fail under Mvrx. And who knows when an updated driver will be available. It's not as if they have had a while to do it already.
After I noticed mine wouldn't work, I deleted my Workforce 610 and re-added it by pressing the + and instead of going for the IP versions that may pop up, that they say to do under normal conditions, select the Bonjour version. When you select the new printer/scanner in the Printers & Scanners Control Panel, then open the control window and then look in the dock and see if your printer is there. Right click on it and go to "Keep in Dock" for easy Access. In the printer panel there should be a little picture of a scanner on the right side. Click on it or type Commmand-3 and the built-in scanner software/utility will come up. After playing with it I think it's better than and there are some cool features that are not in the stock Epson software.
    Hope this helps.

  • Firewire 800 PCI-E Card not detected

    Hi Everyone,
I just add a new pci-e card to my G5 and...it's not detected! it's a Pci Express card with 2 firewire 800 and 1 firewire 400 from Apiotek (mac OSX ok) with a T.I Chipset.
I did a reset-nvram and a reset-all from Open Firmware but nothing seems to work.
    any suggestion?
I add a 4 USB card Pci-Express (Sonnet) and dat card works so I assume that I need o activate something in order to make my Firewire card detected by the G5.
    I really need your help.
    regards

    Hi,
    It's a PPC G5 Quad (4x2,5Ghz) with 7Gig of Ram.
Yes i try to plug un external device (external hard disc, audio card (rme fireface 800))

Hello, I just updated to a new computer and pulled my Audigy Platinum SB0090 (with the front dri've panel) out of my old system and installed it in my new systemell E52 (AMD dual core)Windows XP SP23GB memory?) I disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS.2) Installed the Audigy Sound PCI card and dri've panel.3) Upon boot, Windows XP installs the Firewire and Gameport automatically. I tell it "no" when it prompts my to install audio device drivers.4) I try to install the current Audigy Platinum drivers from here, SBAX_WBUP2_LB_2_09_006, but it tells me no Audigy is detected and won't install.5)?I try to install the drivers from my original installation CD (PN: 220ML0003067) and am also?told that my?Audigy is not detected.6) The new PC has two PCI slots, 3 and 4. is PCIe6, 2 is PCIe. I've tried both PCI slots to no avail. The BIOS shows an audio device in whatever slot it is in. Partial Solution:7)? I went ahead a told Windows XP to search for drivers and it'sdid find?them on the original installation CD and installed them. I now have basic operations, but no dri've panel access. However, both installers above still cannot detect the Audigy. Apparently I will not be able to easily get these installers to work. • Photo Downloader does not detect Thunderbolt connection. Help!

I am using Bridge CS5.1 on MacBook OSX 10.8.3. I bought a Seagate Thunderbolt Adapter which works with 2.5" eSATA hard drives (Seagate Backup Plus). Instead of connecting a 2.5" eSATA to this Thunderbolt Adapter to my Mac, I am doubling this thunderbolt connection as a CF card reader by swapping the eSATA portable drive with a CF to eSATA Adapter instead. Photo Downloader does not detect anything connected through thunderbolt!?
When the CF card or portable drive is connected via the TB adapter, it appears in Bridge and Finder. The Canon's Image Browser (Memory Card Utility) detects only the CF card (not the portable drive) as a Camera and downloads the images from the CF card via the thunderbolt adapter with no issues. I would prefer Bridge to download the images due how the folder names are created by Bridge. (I have been using Bridge for few years now and dont want to change the naming convention. Can't seem to find a way for Canon to name it exactly the same as Bridge. It does YYYY_MM_DD amd I cant get rid of the underscores in Canon's software)
How can I get Photo Downloader (File: Get Photos from Camera...) on Bridge CS5.1 to detect the Thunderbolt connection as a Camera?
Excuse my messy desk, here's a pic of the set up with the CF card plugged into the CF to eSATA adapter : and onto the Seagate TB Adapter. and the TB cable goes into the Mac

It works perfectly well. My issue is getting Adobe Bridge 5.1 to recognise the CF card via thunderbolt in photo downloader.
Despite having bought a MacPro just a few months ago I still have no Thunderbolt connection so i can't confirm this.
I do know Photodownloader has not changed a bit since it was presented long time ago and definitively needs a lot of improvement.
It is very possible that Photodownloader is not capable detecting thunderbolt connections and Canon software doing so does almost proof APDL does not do so.
You can try to dive in the user library (by default hidden, use menu Go and press option to reveal it) and in the folder preferences find and delete the Photodownloader plist file manual.
    restart photodownloader and try again.
The other option is to use a USB 3.0 or Firewire (both also pretty fast).
The third option is to use Bridge itself for renaming the files you imported manual. Using the sort order creation date and batch rename use the option for shot date (yymmdd-number or other info) and either organize with stacks or create folders.
There is also a nice app (not free but cheap called 'big mean folder machine" from the same team that offers 'A better finder rename'.
Both offer plenty of options that makes life easier, such as producing folders with specific naming and order in no time

  • IBook Not Detecting Internal Hard Drive

So, this morning my computer started acting slowly, and apps started freezing. I restarted, and to my horror found that it wouldn't boot. It starts, and the screen is gray, but then nothing happens. I have discovered that the problem must be the iBook not detecting the hard drive. I booted into a linux live CD, and found that it could access the HD. Then when I turned my comp off, and went into select boot drive mode by holding option on startup, I found that no hard drives were listed to boot from. I have also tried connecting to my computer via firewire from another computer, and that couldn't detect it either. What is the problem here? I am becoming very nervous all my work is on there. Thanks for the help.

Try booting from the Apple Restore disk and run the Apple Hardware Test that is on that disk. I fear that it may confirm a failure of your hard drive, but you never know until you try.

    Hello,
It isn't the fw in Network you want o use or look at, that's for something completely different.
My first suspect is the Power Adapter on the LaCie has gone.
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>Firewire, what is listed there?
    Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
    1. Shut the machine down.
    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
    3. leave it for 10 minutes.
    4. Connect back up and reboot.
