URGENT! Flash to Final Cut Pro and back

Hi,
I'm working on my final film for school and it relies on some
simple animation to get the story across. I'm familiar with Flash,
so I thought I would do it that way.
I exported the clip I wanted to animate over from FCP as a
Quicktime (as a Final Cut Quicktime, not a compressed one) and
imported that into Flash, animated over it and exported that clip
as a DV Quicktime, and imported that back into FCP. Everything
looked great on my computer and even okay on DVD, but when I
printed to DV tape and watched it on a big screen (the same size on
which it will be shown next Tuesday at the final screening) the
clips that had animation in them looked pixelated. Not the
animation itself, but the video behind the animation.
So...I need to know how to properly import video into flash
that is DV quality. I imported it as ebedded, highest quality, but
i don't know what to do about keyframes, so that may be the issue.
And i know I'm exporting it properly, because even on a huge screen
the little animations looked great, but the video behind them did
not. So I figure it's a problem with how I imported the video into
Flash. I tried exporting from FCP as a Quicktime DV Stream (using
Quicktime conversion) but that didn't make a difference.
Is there any way I can just export the animation (without the
video), and layer it over the video in FCP or After Effects or
something? Can I set the background of a Flash document (exported
as Quicktime) as transparent?
Please somebody help, I've worked SO HARD on this thing and
if it looks like crap on Tuesday I'm seriously going to cry.
Thanks,
Daniel

I am having trouble importing an swf into fcp. How is this done?

  • Does CC 2014 eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422?

    Hello:
Just today, I was working on a Mac system that does not have any of the applications that I would have expected to need to have installed in order to do more than just decompress movie files compressed with Apple ProRes 422.
I was expecting to have to install Final Cut Studio 3, Final Cut Pro X, Compressor 4, and/or QuickTime 7 with the QuickTime Pro key; however, none of those applications are installed and I am able to create custom QuickTime Apple Pro Res422 Sequences in Premiere Pro as well as export using Apple ProRes 422.  After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder also show all the Apple ProRes variations.
Does CC 2014 eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422?  Is it something happening on the OS or QuickTime level that would affect CC or CS6 in the same way?
I've done a web search, but haven't really come up with anything other than older articles about needing to have FCP installed (and I typically work on systems with Final Cut Studio 3 installed as well as CS6, CC, or CC 2014).  If more detailed information is available, it would be great to be able to read up on it.
The system is a 21.5-inch iMac running Mac OS X 10.8.5, QuickTime Player 10.2, and Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 (8.0.0 - I know an update is available for PrPro, but it's not my system to make that change).
    Thanks in advance,
    Warren Heaton

    Hi Emil:
I use ProRes all the time as well, but I have Final Cut Studio on my workstations.
I had not come across MindPower009's YouTube video.  That explains how ProRes could be showing up without FCP or Compressor.
So, the answer to my question would be, "No, CC 2014 does not eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422; however, if you are willing to be in violation Apple's terms of use, you can install the ProRes codecs anyway."
Even though MindPower009's YouTube video comments claim "FREE and LEGAL", it's clear from both the Apple download page and the ProRes codecs installer that Apple expects you to own at least one of their applications.
    Thanks again for the link!

  • Final cut pro and compressor

I have a FCP project that I have been working on for a year and have made DVD's from through compressor. Suddenly when I open compressor it states that there are no files associated with this project.
Another user suggested I trash the preferences, but am loath to do this incase it makes things worse as I'm not very clued up on some of the systems functions.
    Please help

If you've been on the project for more than a year, it must be legacy Final Cut Pro and not FCP X.
This is the FCP X forum - you should ask this question in the Final Cut Studio forum:

i have recently downloaded final cut pro and i'm unable to access cinema tools. I understood this would be a free addition when purchasing FCPX?

Thanks for responding Tom. Yes I was trying to conform frame rates, I found a few threads/youtube tutorials that all used cinema tools. Now I've spent some time in FCPX I can see where you can conform.
    Appreciate your help.

  • Student Help advice! what is best iMac model for Final Cut Pro and logic pro

    Hi
I am currently looking into getting a iMac, but is toggling to device if I need a 27inch or a 21inch(top model),which will be used for Final Cut Pro and logic
There is a lot of money being invested iMac, and I really not want to be stu k with a computer that not going to keep up with the amount of work load in the future.
The specs that I have on mine are..
    21inch
    Upgrades include
    Sdd drive 512gb
    Intel core i7
    16gb of ram
    Or
    27 inch
    Upgrades
    Fusion drive or sdd 250gb
    Intel core i7
    (Possible graphic card) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5 [+ £105.60]
(Ram is way to expensive so will buy from second party)
Anyone who has brought a iMac for final cut or logic what would you likely buy?..Am really stuck on the hard drives between the 27inch fusion and 512gb on the 21inch
    My budget is £1900
My fear is that the 21inch top model's graphic card may not be good enough for advance editing on Final Cut Pro In the future when I start to get more deep into editing..logic really only needs 8gb to run smoothly..buts its the final cut specs that am having problems deciding. I know iMacs are not future proof or technology lasts for that matter, but I do expect to have it run good for a number of years before I upgrade again.
If anyone can give me some advice, or even tell me about there set up they have for media work please let me know.

All kinds of things affect system & HD performance, I can't tell you why your 4 year old Mac is slow.  Just because your old Mac is slow doesn't mean that a new iMac will be equally slow.
You are correct about the issue with the smaller fusion drives.  It's one of the reasons I am not high on recommending them.  Everyone thinks they want power & performance but don't understand the gap between marketing and real life performance.  The 1TB fusion drive however should give you a good combination of rapid access and sizeable storage capacity.
I have used external FW800 / 7200rpm drives for years and have never had a problem with any of them.  I consider them very reliable but admittedly I DO NOT use consumer drives like the WD MyBook that the big-box stores sell.   For the most part I assemble my own with OWC Mercury Elite enclosures.  In the past few years I have centered on WD Caviar Black and WD Scorpio Black drives.  I also have some Seagate Barracuda 7200.xx drives.  They all perform excellently and reliably.
Pls. refer to my earlier post for what i recommended to you.

What is wrong? All the sudden.

    We need info, info, info!
    What version of FCP X?
Did you render? what are the project specs? do you use many compound clips? how much ram, hard drive space, how is the hard drive connected?
It looks like your mac can't keep up. Maybe the bottleneck is the hard drive, or something else.
Try exporting a master file and see if the video is ok.
Also, keep Activity Monitor open and see how much memory pressure you've got.

can I migrate an iMovie project to final cut pro and keep the edits intact? It may be a solution to my apparently corrupted iMovie

    The manual tells ..
    http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.1/?lang=en#ver41812c7c
keep in mind: just the 'plain cuts', not the eye-candy iMovie offers, wil be transfered.
    unfortunately it says ...:
You initiate the process from within iMovie. The project file and the media used in the project are copied to your Final Cut Pro library.
For more information, see iMovie Help.
so, if your iM doesn't work anymore, you can not transfer.
plus, my personal opinion!, I would start from scratch in FCPx...

First, did you use Setup or Migration Assistant? That can happen when coming from a PowerMac or sometimes even from another (Intel) Mac.
Second, wait for the next version of Final Cut due very soon to ship (may have to wait for the ".1" of course to clean up any early issues.

  • Formatting a La Cie Rugged 1TB Esatadisk for Final Cut Pro and partitions?

I have a brand new La Cie Rugged Xl 1TB hardisk and a La Cie Sata II Esata 34 Expresscardadapter.
1.) How to format the drive to work best with Final Cut Pro and Prores HQ?
2.) How many partitions is best for this 1TB disk?
3.) Which tool to use for formatting and partitioning?

Disk Utility's Repair Permissions only works on drives where all of the following circumstances apply:
•The drive has a Mac OS X operating system installed.
•The files to have their permissions repaired were placed there by the *Apple Installer* application.
•A .pkg file or .bom folder was placed in the Library/Receipts directory by the Apple Installer application, containing permissions information pertaining to the file on the drive.
Repair Permissions does not work on secondary drives or on files created by the user on any drive -including, but not limited to documents, video, photos and music.
To avoid permissions issues on the drives that you will be using for video, do the following:
•Right click the drive's icon on the Desktop or in the Finder's sidebar and choose *Get Info*.
•Go to the bottom of the Get Info window and click the triangle next to *Sharing and Permissions* to open that section.
•Click the lock and authenticate with an Administrator User name and password.
•Activate the checkbox for *Ignore ownership on this volume*.
Do not partition media drives, as already mentioned. There is absolutely no need to format a drive using anything other than Apple's Disk Utility application. You do not need to use LaCie's proprietary software to format a drive.

  • How to compress/adjust imported videos in Final Cut Pro and iMovie?

Left: what the video looks like when played in iPhoto or Quicktime (Dimensions: 960 x 720, Codecs: AAC, H.264) .mov
Right:  what the video looks like when played in iMovie or Final Cut Pro.
    SOS

the left shot is 4:3 (960/720)
    the right shot is a 16:9 project (1920/1080 or 1280/720) with a stretched-to-fit 4.3 video.
If you want an un-stretched project, set it to 4:3 manually when you create a New project, or use the transform-tool and resize the video - which will add bars l/r or chops-off t/b of the video...
or use the Spatial Confirm settings in the Inspector ...

  • Best Graphics backgrounds for final cut pro and g-5's

I am not sure if this is the best place to post this but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what are some of the best graphics to use with final cut pro that work real well with a dual g5, this would be like quicktimes for backgrounds. I have had alot of people tell me after effects but then I am looking more for software that you dont have to build, I have been looking at Digital Juice and was wondering how well that works with final cut pro, are there any other High Quality graphics already put together, thanks for your help and if this is not posted in the right spot let me know where would be the place to post something like this. thanks

  • I recently acquired Final Cut Pro and my concern is that when attempting to download old footage from cine or standard 8, that is 4:9 aspect. There does not appear to be a way of instructing F C Pro to automatically convert images to 16:9 ratio?

Mac Book Pro version (10.6.i) Snow Leopard.
I am an inexperience user and recently acquired Final Cut Pro to supplement my Imove application.
My question is - How can I instruct F C Pro to automatically convert 4:9 aspect material (old cine and standard 8 recordings) to 16:9 aspect.
At the moment I am adjusting each clip manually to fit 16:9, not a very good way to proceed! I have no problem with Imovie in this respect and wonder if
F C Pro offers the same facillity? Can not find any clues either from Apple store or elsewhere.

You mean 14:9, right?? 8mm film frame aspect ratio is  1.58. I find it hard to believe that your telecined video has the same aspect as the original film unless it has been explicitly trimmed to those dimensions. If that's the case, it's pillarboxed in the 16:9 format or letterboxed in the 4:3 format.
You could try to select all your clips and in the Video Inspector > Spatial Conform, select Fill. This will cause your clips to expand to fill the 16:9 "space". This also means that portions of the edges will "overflow" the boundaries of the modern frame (most likely the top and bottom edges.) It shouldn't be that much and if you're telecined film is letterboxed in 4:3, it will be a lot less so afterwards!
You can also select all your clips, assuming they are all the same dimensions, and adjust the (Video > Transform > ) Scale in "one throw" (if you turn down the disclosure triangle you can adjust width and height independently—I am assuming that since you want it to fit, you don't mind minor stretching.)

  • Can I capture with Final Cut Pro and edit in Premiere Pro?

Since it appears that Premiere has issues with capture - at least for me but as I see it for others as well - and that I can capture with iMovie, can I consider using Final Cut Pro for capture - then cross to Adobe Premiere and the suite for editing, finalizing ? Or is there a problem to copy the shots/files from one program to the other (would they remain identified clearly so I could just import shots into Premiere afterward ?)
    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
When you capture HDV in FCP it creates a specific Apple HDV codec. This is a codec that is only available if FCP, Motion or Compressor is installed.
The two workarounds would be to use Premiere Pro on the Mac with one of the above mentioned apps installed on the same system or convert to a codec that can be read in Premiere.
