Urgent- forms4.5 with oracle 8i

Hi,
I want to migrate to oracle 8i on Sun Solaris 2.6. I currently have oracle 7.3.
I am also running froms 4.5 as clients with oracle 7.3.
I want to know does oracle 8i support form 4.5. ?
Does Forms 4.5 can be connected to oracle 8i in any way?
This is urgent . Please response.

Hi Prasad,
You have to go to network directory where your forms are stored and in that there is one more subdirectory admin. there you will find file tnsnames.ora or if you don't find it there copy that file from samples directory present in admin folder.open that file using notepad. then example1.world will be there you just replace that with your connect string you want to specify. In host give the IP address of your server and Give the instance name of your 8i database where SID = your instance name.
i am pasting one sample have a look and i hope this helps you.
regards
gaurav
Connect_string.world =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS =
(COMMUNITY = tcp.world)
(PROTOCOL = TCP)
(Host = IP Address)
(Port = 1521)
(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = instance name)

  • EXTREMELY URGENT - Ultrasearch integration with oracle portal giving erros -

    gurus,
i'm creating a portal source for Ultrasearch and when i register the portal site with Ultrasearch i get the following error -
    ----- START ERROR -------
    Oracle Ultra Search Error
Could not retrieve data from Oracle 9iAS portal. Please make sure that the URL base is correct and that the portal is
    operational.
    ------ END ERROR -------
i looked into the error.log file in $APACHE_HOME/Apache/logs and found the following in the error log file -
    http 404 - portal.home.wwsbr_srchxml.execute : Procedure does not exist
can anyone explain what this means ....
i looked for wwsbr_srchxml package and it is valid and owned by portal.
    ideas ...?
any help will be greatly appreciated ....
    thanx

    Issue:
Couldn't register the portal as a data source within the UltraSearch
    Resolution:
When registering the portal URL Base it executes a procedure on the portal schema (using the part of the portal.home to execute the procedure)
There for to register we have to use http://hostname:port/pls/portal/portal
The last "portal" is whats used to execute the wwsbr_srchxml.execute procedure.
    The log in the Apache/Apache/logs/error_log...
    [Thu Jul 25 18:04:12 2002] [error] mod_plsql: /pls/portal/portal.home.wwsbr_srchxml.execute HTTP-404
    portal.home.wwsbr_srchxml.execute: PROCEDURE DOESN'T EXIST
so basically its looking for portal.home.wwsbr_srchxml.execute which doesn't exist, since its inside the portal schema not the "portal.home" schema.
    Thanks,

Is it possible with oracle reports ?

  • URGENT:Installing TMS  integrated with Oracle Clinical

    hi ,
I am installing TMS integrated with Oracle Clinical .
In the 9i installer screens , one is for
" Destination Oracle HOme And Oracle HOme Name "
what should be given here a new Oracle home name and destination or the same where 9i for OC was installed .
Also can I install TMS and OC on Same database instance ?
    thanks And regards

I think that TMS should be in the same Oracle home. Architecturally, TMS does install in the same database instance as OC. OPA 4.5 is destined to change that, offering a stand alone TMS instance that integrates with specific instances of OC, RDC, AERS, etc. More details of that <fun> migration whenever 4.5 is officially released.
    Hope this helps.

  • Very Urgent (Unique user Id scenario with Oracle LDAP and SSO)

    Unique user Id scenario.
Our oracle LDAP repository is setup for customers to login from different companies. We have a requirement to integrate Oracle LDAP users with Oracle 9iAS portal 3.0.9 Single Sign On. I have two userid with same name on the LDAP from different company. For example userid jsmith from company A and jsmith from company B. Both userid do not exist on Portal Login Server. However, both userids will be created automatically in Login server when LDAP and Portal synchronize user list.
    1. How oracle portal will handle such scenario when portal requires unique userid?
    2. Can I customize portal login screen? For example when they login they can provide userid, passwd and domain name. Where domain name could be company name.
Let me know if you need more information. Feel free to send direct e-mail also.

Let me know if you need more information. Feel free to send direct e-mail also. The scenario you describe is one addressed by Oracle9iAS Portal Release 2's capability to support multi-company hosting. In that scenario, each company has a separate branch of users represented in the directory information tree, as you describe. In this case, both users may have cn=jsmith, but the rest of the DN provides the distinguishing domain, e.g., cn=jsmith,dc=oracle,dc=com and cn=jsmith,dc=microsoft,dc=com.
Version 3.0.9 also supported multi-company hosting, but it was only an internally used feature and one leveraged by a few early adopters. http://portal.oracle.com is one of our hosted examples of multi-company hosting on 3.0.9.
In 'hosting' mode, the login screen displays a third entry field, as you describe, allowing the company name to be specified.
For a supportable configuration, you should use Oracle9iAS Release 2 if you want to employ hosting mode. However, if you need some solution in 3.0.9, you can probably achieve something acceptable by making a slight modification to ssoxoid.pkb. I'm not entirely sure about this, because I'd have to dig into the code (which should be unwrapped, for customization such as this), but you could have users enter their names like 'jsmith@oracle' or 'jsmith@microsoft'. Then, within the ssoxldap.pkb authenticate_user function, you'd need to have the company name added to the base search base before doing the search. Then, once authenticated, the SSO server and Portal would create shadow entries which are unique 'jsmith@oracle', 'jsmith@microsoft'.
Like I say, I'm not sure if the structure of the ssoxldap.pkb file will entirely support this, but that's your best bet until you get Release 2. There will be a 'Multi-Company Hosting Cookbook' provided with Release 2 that will provide the necessary supplemental information to activate hosting mode. You should understand that setting up hosting mode takes a bit more administration than the default single company mode.
If your portal has already been running a while without the @company names then there will also be the issue of getting all the accounts already created moved over to the @company names.

  • Steps to UTF-8 Encoding with Oracle 8i and Weblogic 6.1SP1

What are the Steps to UTF-8 Encoding with Oracle 8i and Weblogic
              6.1SP1?
              I have:
              - Oracle 8.1.5 database created with character set=UTF8 and national
              character set=UTF8
              - Weblogic 6.1SP1 without any encoding mechanism set
              (though I did play with
              <jsp-param><param-name>encoding</param-name>
              <param-value>UTF-8</param-value>
              </jsp-param>
in the weblogic.xml for a while though it seemed not to make a
              difference)
              - JSP pages set to content='text/html; charset=UTF-8'
              - JSP form POSTs set to enctype="UTF-8"
I can copy and paste Chinese Kanji from a UTF8 encoded web page into
form text boxes but when I post the data it comes back as different
Kanji. Then once it is posted the Kanji stays the same on repeated
posts. The same Kanji text also looks different when viewed in a form
text box than when viewed as straight text on the page.
Is there anything else? Or am I already encoding characters twice?
              Please help!

    is possible or not.
Can anyone guide me whether the integration is
possible or not and if it is possible which document
should i refer for the same.

    pls consider this as urgent

    Rajesh Kanna.V

1)Portal is an integrated component of 9iAS. You need to download all of 9iAS and select the minimal install option.
2)We haven't tested this configuration, but as long as you set up apache appropriately to use different ports than the existing software it should work.
3)Portal requires 8.1.6.2 Enterprise edition or 8.1.7 Standard edition. Personal Edition will not work.

    > Is this forum only for COMPLEX questions?
    Not at all.
I'm hard on postings that claim they have urgent complex Oracle problems. (it is not acceptable for anyone here to claim they have an urgent problem - truly urgent problems require official Oracle support)
You barged into a forum. Attempted to jump the queue (so to speak) by trying to grab attention by shouting "urgent problem!! help!!". And then it was not even an Oracle problem!?
That was a very selfish thing of you to do.

    Hi
Im trying to connect VB with Oracle 8i on a Windows 98 platform standalone.
I have the following queries that I tried hard to solve.
    1. I'm cant understand what connection string do I have to put for the Oracle database
    2. How do I create a new database for the Oracle server.
    3. How do I configure the listener and naming methods as I tried hard to configure them with Net8 but it constantly asks for the service name, even the default service name doesnt work.
I would be very grateful if somebody out there helps me as I am urgently in need of knowing these things.
    Thanx
    Anil Anil,
1.you gotta first create a service/startan instance/do it with the database asst./customize your creation and create the database. thru net8. define the connection string but chose bequeth as it's a standalone database.Since you're the boss , define the internal account yourself(the assist asks you for all the info). then create a user and profile which will match your vb application needs. go on to import all the vb data into oracle in this new user say "anil" (you can do that thru datamanager on 8 and dbastudio i think on 8i or thru dos prompt)import all the data in dos/imp8x or with gui of dba studio.create a tblspc/rbs etc as the normal database creation reqmts. and you're ready to access you vb thru oracle(oh ja configure the odbc as well,..).
    I hope this helps.
