Urgent Help Needed: ATI Graphics Card install

Hello All.... I am in need of some urgent help..
I am trying to install a new graphics card - the ATI Radeon 9600 SE. I currently have a Voodoo3 card. I followed all of the instructions step by step, but when I plug the monitor to the Radeon card and boot up, I do not get any display. I have tried everything I can think of, and yet - I am sure the card is secured in place and the monitor is plug into the card.
Can anyone help me on this one.. ATI's support is, well - lacking..
Here is some info on my pc:
MCI motherboard
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ 1.7 GHz
768 MB
AMIINT - 10 Version 1.00, 07/10/02
Could the problem be with switching from a regular PCI card to an AGP card???

BTW is there an external power connector that needs to be plugged in?

  • Help Needed - 2 graphics cards

    I just bought a Radeon ATI 1900 G5 edition online for my PowerMac G5. I already have a GeForce 7800GT as the primary card but I thought the new card would double the performance. I also thought installation would be as simple as popping in the new card. Obviously I should've done my homework a little better.
    Each card seems to need the extra power connection from the motherboard, but as far as I can tell, there is only one power cord.
    What to do?
    I run FCP5, Photoshop, and AfterEffects and I want as much graphics horse-power as the G5 will give me.
    Is it possible to have both of these cards installed?
    Advisable?
    If so, how do I do it? Can one of them run without the external power cord? I assume I would use slots 1 and 3?
    Please shed some light for me. I feel silly for having bought the card as it seems it may not help my situation. The customer service guy gave me the impression it was going to work fine.
    Anyway, please give me some feedback soon if possible as I'm anxious to try out the new set-up.
    Many thanks
    S

    So you're saying that two graphics cards would in no
    way boost performance in graphics apps like PS, AE,
    or FCP?
    Some PCs use multiple graphics cards with SLI to increase performance, but Macs do not support this.
    That the only reason people use multiple
    cards is to have many monitors?
    Correct (at least for a Mac).
    I thought the extra VRAM would help with my rendering
    and real-time effects, no?
    The extra VRAM is on a different card, and without SLI to connect the cards, there is no way it can be used.
    Ever heard of anyone somehow using two cards?
    Not two high power cards,
    Do they make a splitter for the power connection?
    No. You would have to make your own. It wouldn't be too hard to splice two power cables.
    Or is it risky to have two cards running for power reasons?
    The total power consumption would probably be OK, but only slot 1 is rated for high power cards, and the auxiliary power was only planned for one card
    Or could the NVIDIA run without the power connection from slot 3?
    No. It can't even do that in slot 1, which provides a lot more power than slot 3.
    I have no other PCI cards in there so I would run two
    if there was any benefit to be had.
    With no other cards, there is probably enough power, but it is spread over the low power slots 2, 3, and 4.
    But I am only using two 23" monitors so maybe there isn't.
    The extra card would just be using power and producing heat.

  • Help needed with graphics cards....

    I'm looking to buy final cut studio 2 for my G5 Dual 1.8, i was recommended the AGP X800 Radeon graphics card, which is great!.... but. Getting hold of one is another story, as from what I've been told the company has been out of stock for 8 months, and it's really the only option in upgrading my machine.
    So... I'm guessing I only have one option in terms of being able to use final cut studio, and that's to buy a more up to date machine, a mac pro. Which i don't mind doing. But will the graphics card supplied, ie a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, be enough for video work? i wouldnt be running any games, nor would I be dealing with colour, as i only shoot in black and white, it's more for motion. If it wouldn't suffice, can you recommend a decent graphics card for a Dual Core Intel Xeon 2.66GHz mac pro, which is probably what i'd go for.
    Thanks!
    Phil

    For Final Cut Studio yu'd be mad not to upgrade to the ATi X1900 XT. The standard Nvidia 7300 GT just won't cut it.

  • Urgent help need with 8i/9iAS install

    Hello,
    I need some help, preferably a summarized point list of how to install Oracle 8i and Oracle 9iAS to run WebDB (Portal). Is it required that I need some patches from Oracle?
    I am having a tough time trying to make the Portal work on my machine: (Win2000 pro/128 MB/P III ~866MHz
    Any help would be appreciated very much.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi! Here are some of the things that you need to do, in order to Install Portal.
    Questions you should ask yourself before installing Portal:
    1: Do you already have a Database to Start with. Oracle Portal Successfully installs on only Supports Enterprise Editions of Oracle 8.1.6 Edition and 8.1.7 (Both Standard and Enterprise Editions)
    2. If you already have a Oracle 8i Database, remember your sys password, as this is needed to install Oracle Portal. The database Listener(TNS Listener) should be up and running before installing Oracle Portal.
    3. If your Oracle 8i HTTP Listener( Which is Apache Server Listener which comes by default with every Oracle 8i installation) is Running, PLEASE SHUT THAT OFF OR CHANGE THE SETTING TO MANUAL MODE, or Remove that from the Services Directory, Since, this is just a Basic Apache Server which does not have any of the Pl/sql gateway's and/or other Gateway settings that are required for Installing Oracle Portal.
    4. If you have Oracle 8i Database, Increase the Following Settings to the below mentioned limits in your ini<SID>.ora file
    large_pool_size =60000000
    java_pool_size = 5000000
    shared_pool_size=6000000
    Space of "USERS" Table Space =200MB
    Space of "TEMP" Table Space =200MB
    Space of "SYSTEM" Table Space="600MB"
    Shut Down the Instance and Restart the instance in a Normal mode.
    5: Install Oracle IAS on a seperate Directory or Home than the Oracle 8i Home.
    6. Now you are ready to use Portal30 Configuration Assistent.
    Start the Configuration Assistent, Follow through the Steps and you should be able to install successfully.
    A Couple of Hints.
    Make sure the Computer Name you are installing Oracle Portal on is in Lower Case.
    Usually the installation takes a Couple of Hours depending upon your processor Speed and Memory available.
    Please check to See if there are any Errors in the Installation Logs.
    Check on Technet.oracle.com to see any Installation White Papers Out there.
    I hope this Helps

  • APPLE 30" Cinema Display and ATI Graphics Card compatability

    hi all
    I have a 2year old APPLE Dual proc G5 PowerMac 2.0mhz (1.5GB Ram) with an ATI graphics Card which is a ATI Radeon 9600XT 128mb ram.
    This currently works well dipslaying via a Apple cinema 23" screen. However i would like to upgrade the screen with an Apple 30" display now. Will the current ATI Graphics card support a 30"display or will i need to replace the card on buying a new monitor..
    i was looking at potentially a new ATI X1900Xt card.
    any experiences and help please ...
    Thanks Paul

    Your existing card will not run the 30" at full resolution. The ATI X1900 XT won't fit because it is not AGP.
    The fastest AGP card for your G5 is the ATI Radeon X800 Mac edition
    <http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ATI%20Technologies/100435317/>
    It has one DVI dual-link port that will run the 30" display, and one ADC port.

  • Why can't I see my ATI graphics card

    I bought LENOVO ThinkCentre Edge 72 last year (I don't know the exact model, is it marked on the case somewhere?) and was under the impression that it has an ATI graphics card, but when I go to the devise manager I can only see an "Intel(R) HD Graphics" under Display adapters. Why is this, maybe I was wrong and it doesn't have an ATI card?

    Launch Disk Utility and repair permissions for the Mac OS X containing harddisk, reboot and see if the problem solves on its own. Sometimes software installation messes up some drivers ( kexts ) to load properly that worked before. Repairing permissions is a standard routine that can help some weired issues. You can also try to reinstall the latest OS X update 10.5.8 to reinstall drivers that might have become damaged over time.
    If the camera or Cardreader came with specific OSX software I would suggest a reinstallation of that.
    Resetting the PRAM ( to fix corrupted preferences ) would be also a advise.
    All in all OSX can run with no problems for months, but sometimes the underlying UNIX architecture just needs a bit of mainteance; the permissions are always a starting point to fix.

  • MSI mobos and ATI graphics card incompability!

    I don´t know how well known this problem is but I´ve seen it on this forum and when googling the internet you can find it!
    The issue is that I can´t get my HD5450(Sapphire) to work on my MS-7267 (945GCM5-F V2) mobo! The screen stays blank but the PC boots up and loads Windows.
    The HD5450 works fine on other mobos with different PSU´s ranging from 350 - 600 watts, but when trying different PSU´s on the 945GCM5-F V2 it doesn´t seem to help. I´ve also tried different bios settings, I´ve cleared CMOS, I´ve tried both dvi and vga outputs, I´ve disconnected as much as possible from the mobo except from the graphics card and the PSU, but nothing seems to help!
    Any ideas , someone?
    Tekrar!

    Thanks for all replies!
    I had this question on the AMD forum (AMD Game » AMD Technology » Radeon Graphics » MSI mobos and ATI graphics card incompability!) and here are some of the replies:
    "Well, its a known issue that older chipsets, like even AMD 580X chipset, doesn't work with 5k/6k series cards without a bios update from the manufacturer of the board.
    If its not working / posting / no video ect... You need to bug MSI to update the bios on the board to support the newer 5k/6k video cards. It may or may not happen. Several manufacturers have like Asus, and Gigabyte."
    "Same problem. 5450, MSI MS-7267 (945GCM5-F V2). Done the same plus updated msi mainboard bios using msi live update 5 etc. Waiting for reply from makers of graphics card and mainboard.
    I should add from what I've read in other threads and forums it seems to be an old mainboard problem not just related to the MSI 945GCM5-F V2. Some other manufacturers of mainboards have sent customers bios upgrades to get their cards working.
    As for your pci express version question. Well these problems seem to emerge when people have plugged these pci express version 2.1 cards into their pci express 1st generation slots. What exactly the problem is here? Leave that for manufacturers/experts to answer."
    "Tek , its hit or miss on the board + chipset combination on if the card will work or not. Sometimes they will work in old boards, Sometimes they will not w/o manufacturerer support.
    Its completely random from what I've seen on the forums at the times they were released , when people with old boards were asking why it wasn't working. And what they did to solve it. Most all of them emailed the manufacturer. Some of those said manufactureres provided beta bios back to the customers, some said your out of luck."
    Its true, this MSI MS-7267 (945GCM5-F V2) isn´t a new mobo, but when I get the 5450 to work without problem with an even older fujitsu mobo (last bios update long time ago) and a 350 watts PSU I think something´s wrong.
    So, a bios upgrade would probably fix it if the manufacturer (in this case MSI) just wanted to!
    Tekrar!

  • URGENT HELP NEEDED - iPhone 3Gs no longer detected or charged by MacBook

    My iPhone 3Gs (3.1) has been running fine, until several hours ago today, when I plugged it to my MacBook, the iPhone is no longer detected - it doesn't show up in iTunes, nor it is charged. I tried opening iPhoto, and it wasn't there too. Not with Image Capture too. I tried charging it using the out-of-box wall charger using the same out-of-box USB cable I use for MacBook, and it can be charged without any problem. Then I put it into Recovery mode, and there iTunes can see it. I don't want to restore it before I figure out exactly what went wrong, as I don't want the restore process somehow gets stuck in the middle that the connection is lost again.
    I've tried reinstalled iTunes, including completely removal of Apple Mobile Device Support, as instructed by Apple. But still no luck.
    I've tried switching to another USB port of my MacBook. No luck.
    My iTunes is the latest 9.0.1, and my Mac OSX is 10.6.1. My iPhone is on 3.1, upgraded from 3.0.
    I've read from web that it seems I'm not the only one out there having this problem. But none of them seem having any real working solution.
    Urgent help needed & appreciated. Millions of thanks in advance.
    Gary

    1. I used both cables - theirs & mine ... and on several macs
    2. yes, same cable for wall & mac
    3. as said, i did completely remove & install itunes (incl. apple mobile device support), as instructed on the apple webpage
    anyway, did a restore just now. it seems okay now. but the problem is i have no idea what cause this, and i can't replicate the problem. so i don't know when it will happen again ... maybe a bug with os 3.1 ... others on web said os 3.1 is quite buggy ...

  • IPhone 3G 8GB Crashes when syncing with iTunes. URGENT HELP NEEDED.

    I have latest iTunes and OS on my iPhone 3G...
    Every time i plug my iPhone in it begins to sync and then iTunes will freeze and not respond..
    I have tried re installing iTunes.. I can't reset my iPhone as i can't create a backup..
    URGENT HELP NEEDED PLEASE!

    I don't have an iphone, but if it's anything like my click-wheel ipod, a reset doesn't delete anything.
    It just resets the ipod's operating system, kind of like a PC restart. Did you try this Sleep/Wake button thing mentioned here?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1737
    Maybe it's a podcast of voice memo causing the problem like it did for this person
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10907809#10907809
    That's all I got. You might have better luck on an iPhone forum. Everyone there would probably have one. Like I said, I don't.

  • Problem uninstalling MaxMSPRuntime on mac - urgent help needed

    Hello there,
    I've been using Cycle 74's MaxMSP Runtime version 5.1 for a while but recently had to witch to an earlier version to make some hardware function along side the Max runtime environment. The problem is that where i would usually just drag and drop Max 5.1 into the trash to uninstall it, for some reason, after i have done this and try to install the older version of Max, OSX wont let me install Max 4.0.8 as it says an updated version is currently installed. I have scoured my hard drive for the remanence of Max 5.1. and deleted everything i've found. Is there a way of overriding macosx and getting it to replace Max5.1 with an older version?
    Urgent help needed as i am playing a show this weekend and currently am not able to get my equipment to function.
    A shiny nickel for the one who saves my ***.
    Thanks
    Henry

    Hi- Try this...
    If you can, reinstall or use time machine to recover your recently deleted MaxMSP Runtime 5.1.
    Then, download AppZapper. It is a utility that helps you cleanly delete programs off your mac. It is free for the first 5 uses.
    http://appzapper.com/
    Then, install AppZapper, and then go ahead and drag the MaxMSP Runtime 5.1 into it, and it should hopefully get rid of the pesky program

  • Recovering windows XP -Urgent help needed

    I am new to Toshiba. I hav a 60 GB hard disk with no partition and windows XP home installed. I want to partition the hard disk now. Now after formatting the hard disk do i lose Windows XP HE completely or is there chance to recover it and reinstall it. Urgent help needed.

    Hi
    You can reinstall your notebook using Recovery CD. It is easiest and fastest way to reinstall OS, all necessary drivers and tools. Put Recovery CD into DVD-ROM, start notebook and press down C button. At the beginning there is choice between two kinds of installation (Standard mode and expert mode).
    If you choose the first one whole HDD will be formatted and used for OS installation. With second one (expert mode) it is possible to install OS on first partition. It is also possible to define how big the partition should be.
    Try it. It is very simple to do it.
    Good luck

  • URGENT HELP NEEDED ... Tomcat Realm and JRE1.4 plug-in problem

    I have tried the Security Realm of Tomcat. Since I do not have
    an LDAP server, I decided to use the Tomcat-users.xml file in
    Tomcat\conf directory.
    I added the following lines of code in the web.xml file.
    <security-constraint>
    <web-resource-collection>
    <web-resource-name>Entire Application</web-resource-name>
    <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>
    </web-resource-collection>
    <auth-constraint>
    <!-- NOTE: This role is not present in the default users file -->
    <role-name>webviewer</role-name>
    </auth-constraint>
    </security-constraint>
    <login-config>
    <auth-method>BASIC</auth-method>
    <realm-name>Tomcat Manager Application</realm-name>
    </login-config>
    The <role-name> "webviewer" is added into "Tomcat-Users.xml" as the following:
    <tomcat-users>
    <user name="test" password="password" roles="webviewer" />
    </tomcat-users>
    So, now when we type the url: http://localhost:8080/adbpdbre/default.htm, TOMCAT shows a dialog box asking for UserName: and Password:Now, only when we give the username and password, it shows the page. This is exactly what we want.
    But the problem now is, this default.htm page, has 5 links to 5 applets. The first time that I click on one of these links, the JRE plug of 1.4 shows a dialog again asking for the username and password. Till I dont provide the username and password the system doesnt go ahead and applet doesnt load. I do not want the JRE to ask me for the username/passwords again..How to avoid this ?
    Can you give me some more information on this. Ultimately in the production usage, we will be using LDAP and not Tomcat's memory realm.
    URGENT HELP NEEDED ... I need to get back to my client on this.
    Help would be v. much appreciated.

    In the config file, you 're essentially saying that you want Tomcat to prompt for usr/passw on every request (url-pattern = /*) made by a 'webviewer', and that's exactly what Tomcat is doing.
    Consider using specific url-patterns & roles for resources to be protected. If for now, all you need is to protect the first page, use a more specific url-pattern.
    Just an advice : if you'll be using LDAP in production, do not waste time with Tomcat's Security Realm and the BASIC authentication type, since the two have not much in common. Start reading doc on LDAP, and code a prototype, or even better, a vertical slice of the app (i.e a proof of concept).

  • Urgent help needed, can I restore N900 Backup file...

    i owned a N900 (now sold out)
    before selling i took backup of contacts from backup restore option in application section
    now i bought a N8 but i m not able to restore my contacts
    1. is there any way to restore them in N8?
    2. if not, can i convert them in TEXT or any readable format
    urgent help needed
    thanks in advance

    The backup procedures built into the phone are only designed for restoring to the same phone (ie: in case or data corruption, software update or repair etc.), they can't usually be used to restore to a phone with a different operating system.
    You should have backed up with Ovi Suite before selling the N900, that would have been able to restore to the N8.
