Urgent: How to run Multiple Applets from a URL

Hi,
I am developing an applet that needs memory more than 64MB and I have used -Xmx to set it to 128 MB.
On my web page, I have 3 applications that use the same JAR file of the applet, but the problem is all applets are opened/loaded in same heap space by JVM. So, when I load first applet, it uses 80 MB and when I start 2nd applet, after using 40 MB, it throws OutOfMemory exception.
Is there a way to start each applet with fresh 128 MB heap space rather than all applets sharing 128 MB heap space?

That's some hefty requirements for an applet. I believe that the only way to do the Xmx thing on the client side is to have them manually add it in the JVM arguments section of the Java Plugin Control Panel.
The browser/plugin is going to use the same JVM to run all 3 applets in a page. I've never seen a way to tell it to do otherwise. The only separation is the applet contexts, but that is more of a security manager grouping thing.
Maybe you should look into how you can better manage your data so you don't need so much memory.

Urgent: how to run applet which connected to the servlet?

hi frends:
i have written an applet on the server side and it supposed to pass parameters to my servlet and retrieve some info from the servlet.
i put both applet and servlet under tomcat../WEB-INF/classes. but when i run the applet from the web browser, there is no response from the servlet.
could anyone help me to solve this problem?
one more thing is i know that applet is able to connect to servlet, but how about java application? is it able to do so? if yes, is it also using URLconnection as applet? and how to run it?
i will be very appreciate if anyone can help me... thanx a million.

You can connect to the servlet from an application.There's a URL class in java.net that has an openConnection method. Then cast the return to an HttpURLConnection and use setMethod to set up as a post request.This may be the default if you call setDoOutput(true) on the URLConnection. Then you'll need to get an OutputStream and write properly formatted form POST data to it. It's also possible to encode your data on the URL, even when using the POST method, and this may be easier when doing it programmatically from an application. To send a get request you can append the name-value pair at the end of the url.

How can I run an applet from an application (frame)?

I have an application (frame) that render images and save it, and then I want to create an animation with those images using Animator applet from the application itself, but I do not how to call the applet from the application, is this possible?

You can simply run a JApplet in a JFrame. Just create a frame object, an object of your applet, add the applet to the frame and call the init() function of your applet. It could look like this:
JFrame anyFrame = new JFrame("MyTitle");
YourApplet yourApplet = new YourApplet();
anyFrame.getContentPane().add(yourApplet, BorderLayout.CENTER);
yourApplet.init();
anyFrame.setSize(new Dimension(800,600));
anyFrame.setVisible(true);
You will not necessarily have to write the applets default constructor.

How to store multiple files from SAp in to Application server?

             Can anybody tell me how to store multiple files from SAP into Application server.in my application i have to get the data from SAP tables BSEG , BKPF , BSAK and BSIK that to daily i have to do.

Hi,
directories creates basis. If you have task to store data in application server you already should have information into which folder you have to do it. If you don't have this information because it is just for example training for next task then you can use your personal folder into which you have access. To get list of all available folders please look at attached code and form get_directories (you get the list of folders you see in transaction AL11). But don't forget: If you are using open dataset you have to have rights to access application folder!

How to Debug multiple Applets in a IDE

Hi,
I am relatively new to Java. At work, I have a client-server style application where applets are deployed to the clients in an html page.
Background:*
The sequence is something like this:
- Client goes to the relevant url
- The returned html page has an embedded login applet
- Upon successful login, an html page is returned that has two embedded applets
- On the client side, navigation buttons within the applets take them to other applets
On the server there is an application running that listens to the relevant socket (that the client sends data to) and sends out appropriate responses and data.
Question:*
How do i setup this system in any IDE (any IDE is ok with me) so that i can do the following:
- Step through and debug the applets (appletviewer doesnt work because it seems to work with independent applets only. In my case, all the applets have relationships among them. eg. unless the login applet successfully completes, the other applets cannot work... etc)
- Visually view / edit existing applets UI (something like a WYSIWYG tool)

Hi,
I am actually, working in an applet too, and I also need to debug it. With Eclipse you will easily get it, just click with Right button on the project�s name and choose: Debug As-> Java Applet. You can arrive also by: Debug As-> Open Debug Dialog. At the end you will have a window where you will be able to add the applet parameters in the Parameters tab. Finally you only have to set breakpoint (double click in the left side of any code line) and with F5, F6 and F7 you will get the absolute control. I don't think you've problems even you run multiple applets.

Running multiple instances from same oracle home

Hi Gurus,
I am preparing for OCA 11g examination. I had a question about running multiple instances from same oracle home. While reading the book I came across a statement about database control which says "If there are several database instances running off the same Oracle home, then each will have its own Database Control instance".
Now I assume that this statement implies multiple instances accessing the same physical database (which as per my knowledge can happen only in case of a RAC).
I am not able to understand how exactly can you have multiple database instances in a single oracle home. I have installed Oracle 11g on my computer whose oracle home is +"D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1"+; now this directory houses all the binaries (executables and folders like admin,bin, etc) for the oracle instance that I have installed (the instance name is ocp1). Now if I am to install or create another Oracle Instance (say ocp2) in the same home, wont there be a conflict of binaries of the two instances in the same home ?
Basically,it makes sense if db_1 folder is further split into multiple folders, one for each instance (for example, one for ocp1 & one for ocp2); each of these folders will then contain the binary files, libraries,etc for its own instance; but, this is not the case, here db_1 houses all the binaries directly under it ...
The other question which stems from the statement I mentioned above is that if having multiple instances running from same oracle home accessing the same physical database, can this arrangement be called RAC at all; or does RAC dictate that you cannot have multiple instances that are accessing the same database have to be installed on physically separate machines and so you cannot have two RAC instances (accessing same physical database) installed on the same computer ??
I hope my questions are not too much confusing ... !!

Usually in this case you create several instances on the same node.
Now I assume that this statement implies multiple instances accessing the same physical database (which as per my knowledge can happen only in case of a RAC).You are correct about RAC where several instances (usually running on separate nodes) access the RAC.

Run multiple apps from one browser windows with 9ias r2

We are running 9ias r1 with forms 6i as our production server. Users are able to access one html page with multiple links to their applications. They can run one application, keep it running, navigate back to the html page and run a second application.
We are testing 9ias r2 with forms 9i, but when users try to navigate back to the html page to run the second application the first application closes.
Is there a way to have 9ias r2 work the same as r1 and allow users to run multiple application from one html page?

Sorry if i sound foolish how to run an applet through a java application

I am into java from last one month ank keep on exploring it in the want to
recently i created a application cum applet in the same class like
applet is doing its own task and there is a main method in the code
that does entirly different task lets assume displaying *'s on the dos prompt the program is getting complied and belive it its running as desired
but the only problem that i m facing if i use appletviewer Myclass.java
only the appletprog is displayed
and if i run java Myclass than only dos task is done
may be it is sounding foolish for most of you but if i can get a way
which will help me in excecuting only one of it and both of them run succesfully
it tryied different ways to do it but was not succesful
please do not get irreated if its bizzered but if you really have a solution for it .i will appreciate it

Yes you can run an Applet from an application. The magic bit is providing an AppletContext and AppletStub!
Here's how you start it:

[UIX] How To: Return multiple values from a LOV

Hi gang
I've been receiving a number of queries via email on how to return multiple items from a LOV using UIX thanks to earlier posts of mine on OTN. I'm unfortunately aware my previous posts on this are not that clear thanks to the nature of the forums Q&A type approach. So I thought I'd write one clear post, and then direct any queries to it from now on to save me time.
Following is my solution to this problem. Please note it's just one method of many in skinning a cat. It's my understanding via chatting to Oracle employees that LOVs are to be changed in a future release of JDeveloper to be more like Oracle Forms LOVs, so my skinning skills may be rather bloody & crude very soon (already?).
I'll base my example on the hr schema supplied with the standard RDBMS install.
Say we have an UIX input-form screen to modify an employees record. The employees record has a department_id field and a fk to the departments table. Our requirement is to build a LOV for the department_id field such that we can link the employees record to any department_id in the database. In turn we want the department_name shown on the employees input form, so this must be returned via the LOV too.
To meet this requirement follow these steps:
1) In your ADF BC model project, create 2 EOs for employees and departments.
2) Also in your model, create 2 VOs for the same EOs.
3) Open your employees VO and create a new attribute DepartmentName. Check selected in query. In expressions type (SELECT dept.department_name FROM departments dept WHERE dept.department_id = employees.department_id). Check Updateable always.
4) Create a new empty UIX page in your ViewController project called editEmployees.uix.
5) From the data control palette, drag and drop EmployeesView1 as an input-form. Notice that the new field DepartmentName is also included in the input-form.
6) As the DepartmentName will be populated either from querying existing employees records, or via the LOV, disable the field as the user should not have the ability to edit it.
7) Select the DepartmentId field and delete it. In the UI Model window delete the DepartmentId binding.
8) From the data controls palette, drag and drop the DepartmentId field as a messageLovInput onto your page. Note in your application navigator a new UIX page lovWindow0.uix (or similar) has been created for you.
9) While the lovWindow0.uix is still in italics (before you save it), rename the file to departmentsLov.uix.
10) Back in your editEmployees.uix page, your messageLovInput source will look like the following:

13) In the data control palette, drag and drop the DepartmentId field of the DepartmentView1 as a LovTable into the Results area on your page.
14) Notice in the UI Model window that the 3 binding controls have been created for you, an iterator, a range and a binding for DepartmentId.
15) Right click on the DepartmentsLovUIModel node in the UI Model window, then create binding, display, and finally attribute. The attribute binding editor will pop up. In the select-an-iterator drop down select the DepartmentsView1Iterator. Now select DepartmentName in the attribute list and then the ok button.
16) Note in the UI Model you now have a new binding called DCDefaultControl. Select this, and in the property palette change the Id to DepartmentName.
17) View the LOV pages source, and change the lovUpdate event as follows:

</event>Thats it. Now when you select a value in your LOV, it will return 2 (multiple!) values.
A couple things to note:
1) In the messageLovInput id field we dont use the .path notation. This is mechanism for returning 1 value from the LOV and is useless for us.
2) Again in the messageLovInput we supply _uixState as an entry in the partialTargets.
3) We are relying on partial-page-refresh functionality to update multiple items on the screen.
Im not going to take the time out to explain these 3 points, but its worthwhile you learning more about them, especially the last 2, as a separate exercise.
One other useful thing to do is, in your messageLovInput, include as a last entry in the partialTargets list MessageBox. In turn locate the messageBox control on your page (if any), and supply an id=MessageBox. This will allow the LOV to place any errors raised in the MessageBox and show them to the user.

It took me some time to find the information I needed, how to use return multiple values from a LOV popup window, then I found your post and all problems were solved. Its working perfectly, well, almost perfectly.
Im always fighting with ADF-UIX, it never does the thing that I expect it to do, I guess its because I have a hard time letting go of the total control you have as a developer and let the framework take care of a few things.
Anyway, I'm using your example to fill 5 fields at once, one of the fields being a messageChoice (a list with countries) with a LOV to a lookup table (id , country).
I return the countryId from the popup LOV window, that works great, but it doesn't set the correct value in my messageChoice . I think its because its using the CountryId for the listbox index.
So how can I select the correct value inside my messageChoice? Come to think of it, I dont realy think its LOV related...
Can someone help me out out here?

When executing the planning function by create planning seq. in the web template : I see value of variable store data like ...
A.) input one value -> V1
B.) input three values -> V1;V2;V3
This function execute completely in web.
However, I want to use the planning function in workbook(Excel).
The value of variable can't input V1;V2;V3... I don't know how to pass multiple values from workbook to parameter(Multiple single values type) in planning function ?

I have used all the steps as you mentioned in your previous reply....including checking Mulitple Selection Check Box..
Iam able to get the results when I am selecting one value..
and also I am able to handle multiple values the in the query by using IN :Parameter, but seems when we select more than one value from the parameter drop down i think the Bi Publisher is sending the values in concatenated form something ilke
ex: "'ACCOUNT','HR','SALES'" ,and when trying to display the parameters values in the output, its throwing the error as 'missing right paranthesis' ....on the whole do you have any solution which would handle
1.Single selection.
2.Multiple selection.
3.'ALL' Values.
4.Separating the concatenated string into individual strings and dispaly them on the output of the report..etc..in case of Mulitple selection.
Ex:
Concatenated String from BI Publisher:"'ACCOUNT','HR','SALES'"
Expected Output on the report:ACCOUNT,HR,SALES
