URGENT: labels and ratings lost from CS3 to CS5

Hi, I have been using Bridge CS3 for categorize my photos and i have instaled CS5 recently (i have the two now).
All the ratings and labels were lost. In jpeg files, in CS3 i can see the rating in the xmp metadata "rating" (in file info, advanced) but not in CS5 (the xmp metadata is there but without "rating"). In CS5 i can rating the photos with problems.
If i export (save) xmp from jpeg in CS3:

once is xmp and the other is xap??

I have had another look and there is a change between CS3 and CS5 but I still retain Label and Rating veiwing a CS3 Labeled/Rated file in CS5

The only difference being xmp is being used instead of xap. I have also looked at CS4 and it is the same as CS5, except they are in reversed order but still show correctly.
I wonder what version of Bridge you have for CS5 mine is ..  4.0.4.2
Sorry I can't help.

  • What file(s) keep Bridge labels and ratings

Using Bridge CS4  3.0.0.464, and have lost some of the labls and ratings I had given images. I was unable to regain them
from .xmp files, or cache files, so had to get them from backed up folders of those images, though all the image files themselves
were still fine. Would be nice to know as these help me keep track of things if I'd ever lose them again. Thank you.

    Dear all,
I read this post and hope to clarify the design and ask some questions:
    Issue 1:
How to access folder 'user/app data/Roaming/adobe/bridge' that Curt Y mentioned:
Please note on Windows 7 or Vista, the folder 'AppData' is hiden by default, you can either show hiden files, folders and drives out by changing the OS folder options, or you can directly input the path '[CurrentUser]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Bridge CS5/' to enter the folder directly.
    Issue 2:
Where the Labels and Ratings are stored.
For all the XMP-supported files (e.g: include almost all the Camera Raw files, Images file, PDF, Illustrator files, InDesign files, video, audio, etc. An easy way in Bridge to know whether a file is XMP-supported file or not is to show out a property named 'Supports XMP' in metadata panel by checking on the item in Bridge Preferences -> Metadata -> File Properties -> Supports XMP), the Labels and Ratings are stored in the files themselves, or the file's sidecar file (for Camera Raw files, usually it is the .xmp file with same name of the raw file)
For all the XMP-unsupported files (e.g: folders, .txt, .doc, .xls, etc...), the Labels and Ratings are stored in the hiden file named .BridgeLabelsAndRatings which located in the same folder with the XMP-unsupported files you labeled/rated.
As I know, the file's labels and Ratings info won't be stored in the folder '[CurrentUser]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Bridge CS5/'.
    Issue 3:
    Labels and Ratings lost issue
If you copy/move files inside Bridge, either XMP-supported files or XMP-unsupported file shouldn't lost their label/rating info.
If you copy/move files outside Bridge, e.g, to copy or move them in Finder or Explorer:
    - XMP-supported files: Camera Raw files which have sidercar file
will lost label/rating info because Finder/Explorer don't know their sidecar file should be bandled with the camera raw files.
    - XMP-supported files: other files which don't have sidercar file
Shouldn't lost label/rating info because the metadata has been store in the files themselves.
    - XMP-unsupported files.
Will lost label/rating info because Finder/Explorer don't know the label/rating info is stored in the hidden file .BridgeLabelsAndRatings and won't copy/move the file together.
    Questions:
Peterimmn mentioned the label/rating lost when he saved a file, .
    - What application do you use to save the file?
    - What kind of files are you saved?
    - Are the files located on local disk?
    Thanks,
    Melissa

  • LR not getting labels and ratings from Bridge - SOMETIMES?

I'm starting to feel a bit masochistic 'cause I just keep trying to use Lightroom... But, there are enough things that are so much easier to do in Bridge that I still use it for everything but Lightroom's Develop module...
Anyhow, in Lightroom I loaded a directory of images (about 70). In Bridge I examined the same directory of images and rated some with 5 stars, and some of those with GREEN...
Back to LR... None of the changes show up. Looked around LR for something that would tell it to update the images in its library. The only thing I could find was the metadata/XMP/Import XMP thing, and that didn't do anything (is there something else in there that I'm just missing?). Finally, I DELETED the whole directory, and imported the images again. STILL no labels or ratings. I even shut down LR and Bridge and restarted LR to see if that'd help... Then did the metadata/XMP/Import again. Still no change.
Now I KNOW this has worked before, 'cause I've seen the images with the labels and ratings... Any ideas how come it refuses to work on these images?
BTW: If I change a label or rating in LR it shows up immediately in Bridge.

Tried that as part of the "how do I get metadata from Bridge into here" activity... On this set it still didn't bring in the changes... It may just be an aberation but its really bizarre to have different sets of images appear differently... But, since I just got killed by LR and its "Out of Memory" message I'm back to square one again anyhow.

  • Bridge labels and ratings problems involving Premiere Pro

I recently went on vacations and took a lot of video with my DSLR.  I took a lot of time to organize the footage by batch renaming as well as adding labels and ratings within Bridge.  I had assumed that adding this kind of metadata would stay with the clips upon importing to Premiere Pro but found today when I imported all of my footage the ratings and labels did not appear in Premiere but still appeared in Bridge.  I couldn't find any helpful information on this topic online so any help that could be provided would be much appreciated.
P.S. All of the footage was recorded to AVCHD .mts filed on a Sony A65 DSLR and im using a 2011 I7 iMac not sure if this information is usful but I thought it couldn't hurt to provide it

Welcome to the froum.  Your submittal was great.
I don't know if this will fix your problems, but you need to update to the current versions and see where that takes you.  Click on Downloads/updates at top of page.
You have Bridge CS4 v.3.0.0.464 and Photoshop CS4 v.11.0 and Camera RAW 5.0.0.178.  Don't know what current version of Bridge is, but you need PS v. 11.0.1 which fixed a number of mistakes.  Also, the current RAW is 5.6 I believe.  I am still on CS3.
    eatfirst wrote:
This only seems to happen if I actually edit the photo in Camera RAW, I do not ask to save it (and remember these are JPG files so as I understand it any changes in Camera RAW would not be saved unless I ask to resave the file itself) but to open it directly into Photoshop (and I then save the finished work as a copy to a different place from Photoshop) but the act of making an edit in Camera RAW seems to affect the original file settings in some way, and that looses the labelling etc.
Edits, keywords, and rating can be stored in the XMP file.  This has the same name as the file and needs to move with the file or you will loose info.  If you move or rename the file, and don't use Bridge, this file could be left behind.  You can see this file in Bridge, if you have show hidden files clicked in View.  You can look at it in Windows Explorer if you have "show hidden files".
Check to see if you have an XMP file in the new location.  If not then do you workflow in stages and see if you have an XMP file after edits before you save it to another location.
    Hope this helps.

  • Losing folder labels and ratings

This has been a very frustrating problem that I've had for years, now, and across several versions of Adobe Bridge. In a nutshell, Bridge seems to randomly lose labels and ratings on folders.
Further information: I am not moving nor copying these folders. If anything, I periodically add some files to some of them, but there are several that I don't even touch. One day, I'll give some of these folders a label and a rating, and the next day, some of them have lost their labels and all of them have lost their ratings. Why is this? I know that labels and ratings are primarily meant for individual files, particularly images likes JPGs, but I've never seen anything that says they cannot be used with folders. Also, note that none of my labels and ratings have disappeared from files; this only seems to be a problem with folders. Please help me to understand and fix this issue.

Also, note that none of my labels and ratings have disappeared from files; this only seems to be a problem with folders. Please help me to understand and fix this issue.
Can't help you much because I never have used labels and ratings for folders. However, like a Raw file, folders itself are not capable of storing XMP metadata, while DNG, jpeg, tiff PSD etc, can store this metadata in the file itself. When you rate or label a folder in Bridge this metadata is stored in a hidden file with a document icon called ".BridgeLabelsAndRatings".
You can check yourself on a folder with subfolders you have not rated before, in Menu View check the option to show hidden files, rate or label one folder and this file will show up. So either something has gone wrong with this file or you did unknowingly removed it somehow, just my guess.

  • Labels and Ratings Unavailable in Bridge

I'm able to apply neither labels nor ratings to pictures in Bridge.  Additionally, although the Labels and Filters are offered under Select Filter Categories, neither actually appears in the Filter list.   Seems to affect CS5 now as well.

Can you right click an image from within bridge and goto the label menu, and select a label from there?
Also to add a rating using a keyboard shortcut, press CMD-1 - 5 depending on the rating level you'd like to rate an image.
Both labels and ratings can be found under the "Label" menu as well.
Once labels and rating have been applied, the filter categories will become available.
If no labels or ratings are found, then the filter categories will not be visible.
If this doesn't help, let us know what else you're seeing, and what OS you're using
    thanks.

  • Labeling and ratings in CS5

    Hi:
I'd like to move my image approval and organization process toward a metadata workflow. I know Bridge offers labeling and ratings of RAW formats and they are both captured in the XMP. Are there any existing concerns - that is, is this a persistent solution so that if I need to go back to the file 5 years from now, the metadata will still be compatible in the existing XMP file? I saw some postings on the labels going white, and unfortunately, I haven't had the time to check all the previous discussions. But I'm at the point where I need to implement something different with my team and real soon. I apologize if I'm just a smidge skeptical, but I want to be certain that this will work for the long term. Thanks

I know Bridge offers labeling and ratings of RAW formats and they
are both captured in the XMP. Are there any existing concerns
Yes there are always concerns, specially when using different Raw files and
    different users.
Using Raw format and rating labeling creates a separate XMP file for the
original Raw file. This travels with the file automatically as long as you
use Bridge for moving them between folders. The XMP files are by default
hidden files and therefore not visible in Bridge (If you want to check
choose menu View/show hidden files). The first time you add stars, labels or
metadata info like IPTC to a Raw file it creates such a hidden file.
But losing that file for whatever reason causes also los of rating, label
and IPTC metadata. Once developed and saved as f.i. PSD  or jpeg the
metadata and rating/label is written into the file itself.
Therefore you might consider to switch to a DNG workflow. All metadata,
labeling and rating is saved into this file so no longer bothering about
    losing separate XMP files.
is this a persistent solution so that if I need to go back to the file 5 years
from now, the metadata will still be compatible in the existing XMP file?
DNG is an open standard created by Adobe and as open standard likely to be
trusted for years to come. This is not certain for all the different Raw
files the vendors create for each new dSLR they produce, some of the early
ones are already hard to convert in current Raw apps.
Adobe has a free DNG Converter but if you ingest the files yourself from
card reader you could use Adobe Photo downloader and fill in some options
like converting to DNG, back up original Raw,rename and add copyright
    template.
saw some postings on the labels going white,
First of all, planning to work on a filing system for your images also needs
a good back up strategy, there is always a chance something goes wrong...
The labels turning white is mainly caused by switching to other languages or
later in the process change label names to other then the default. If Bridge
can't compare the label name set in earlier times with current changed (or
other language) name it turns the label to white. However it still keeps the
name given to the file when original labeled. This is easy to select in the
filter panel where you can select all the files with same label name with a
    checkmark in front.
Personally I still don't trust Bridge for using as Digital Asset Management,
have had to much trouble in the past and also believe you can't create an
app for all functions. I use Bridge very much and for all my files for
ingestion of raw files, rating, renaming metadata, open in ACR using
Tools/Photoshop/Batch, the output module for contact sheets etc etc. And I
really love it despite it is still not the app it can be.
But for my archive with 50K + of images I use Canto Cumulus Single user that
is designed for DAM. Also not perfect but very good compared with value for
money. Have also used Extensis Portfolio (to slow on my system, used
different versions) and for quit a long time iView media until Microsoft
took it over, changed the name to Media Expression and killed it not long
    after.

  • Swf previews in browser and doesn't work on server after upgrade from cs3 to cs5

I have upgraded from CS3 to CS5. My site uses a template created in dreamweaver 8.  When I edit a page and embed a .swf file created in flash cs5, it doesn't work on my server, but works on my computer when I 'test in browser'.  I have uploaded all the files in the 'scripts' directory.  I am streaming video.  I have tried using both actionscript 2.0 and 3.0 and streaming .flv and .f4v.  None work.
I have a big site and do not wan't to redo my template unless I absolutely have to.

It's not 100% clear from your post, but you should be aware that CS5 plugins should not work in CS5.5. Because of a CS5.5 bug, CS5 plugins will load in InDesign 7.5.0, but that is fixed in 7.5.1 so they will not load.
You should lean a bit harder on Virginia Systems. They should be able to tell you how to get them the stack trace from the crash which they should be able to look at and tell you which plugin (if any) is responsible for the crash. I could do it for Mac OS X but I don't know how under Windows. You could start by looking at the Event Viewer, though. That may have some helpful information about the crashes and the faulting module.

  • I recently bought an Epson Artisan 837 printer. I installed the driver and now Photoshop from CS3 will not open. It quits when the Twain portion of the program starts loading. Does anyone know how to fix this so my printer will work with Photoshop??

I recently bought an Epson Artisan 837 printer. I installed the driver and now Photoshop from CS3 will not open. It closes every time it gets to the point where it is loading the Twain portion. Does anyone know how to fix this so my printer and Photoshop will work together? Thanks for any help I can get!

    You're welcome.
But, no, don't look to  Epson for fixes to their  driver in newer versions, and Adobe has deprecated the TWAIN plug-in.  Hoping for a solution there is futile.  That has not happened and it's never going to happen.  The consensus is that it's pretty foolish to tie up Photoshop to scan.  Honestly.
Any improvement in the behavior of newer versions of the Epson drivers in that regard would be pure coincidence.
You need to understand that you never, ever scan "within" Photoshop, as Photoshop has no scanning capabilities whatsoever.  When you use the Import > Twain plug-in all you are doing is blocking Photoshop while you call up the stand-alone Epson scanning software.  If you think about it, its most inefficient.
VueScan has a pretty powerful scanning plug-in that can be called from the Impost menu—if you insist.  VueScan is not free, but it's a pretty good value, IMO.
As for the Epson CD printing software, I have no clue.  Sorry.

  • Labels and ratings aren't being applied

Using Adobe Bridge CC 6.1.0.115 on Mac OSX 10.9.5
Labels and ratings aren't being applied.  Change view options - no luck.  Change label preferences to remove need for command button - no luck.
Is this a bug?  Why isn't there a Bridge CC 2014 version?
This is a big problem and the main reason I use Bridge - sorting media to make selects for use.  Please respond and advise - I saw similar threads here with no response.
    Thanks!!

Ok, I found out that when I added another new CD it seems to stop saving all information once I try to rate the new files, or something like that. For example, I started changing the 'Sort Artist' category for the songs and afterwards started to rate them. This was before I clicked 'Get Album Artwork' as well so then when I closed out and opened iTunes again it had the 'Sort Artist' info right but in the wrong spot and the artwork wasn't there. One song was missing too. Is this a corrupted Library file then? It won't save any changes for any of the other songs either. It always reverts back to the old info. I'm really not sure what to do.

  • Can't find this info anywhere... Can I upgrade from CS3 to CS5 or CS5.5?

After using Adobe products for years and years, it's not only my opinion but the opinion of many of my colleagues that CS upgrades are only worth it about every other upgrade. That might be a subjective opinion, but it does lead in to my question: Does anyone know if I can upgrade from CS3 to CS5 or CS5.5?? I can't find that info anywhere on Adobe's site.
    Thanks!

Does anyone know if I can upgrade from CS3 to CS5 or CS5.5??
The Adobe Buying Guide clearly states that the answer for CS3 to CS5.5 is yes.
Design Premium example (other Creative Suites are the same):
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/design/buying-guide.displayTab2.html
You won't be able to buy CS5 from Adobe (not that you'd have any reason to).

  • Is it possible to transfer custom web galleries from CS3 to CS5?

Does anyone know if it is possible to transfer my custom web galleries from PS CS3 to Adobe Bridge CS5?

Collections are not a physical directory.  It is kind of like a spreadsheet that tells Bridge where to find the pictures and display them, so you can't just move the folder.
Smart collections are a little easier to transfer, but do not think CS3 had those.
Not an expert here but believe you would first have to have the same computer  and HD so that all the picture loacations are the same.
Then go to User/App Data/Roaming/Adobe/Bridge/Collections and copy file from CS3 and insert into same spot for CS5.
Maybe someone that have done this will jump in and prove me wrong.

  • Upgrading from CS3 to CS5 issues

I work at a medium size College on a pretty small team, 1 editor/writer, 1 communications coordinator, and 1 designer (me). I've been using InDesign (ID) for 5 years now and we added on the InCopy (IC) workflow a few years ago with CS3 (both of us then had CS3). The editor and I just recently upgraded from CS3 to CS5 and we've hit a snag. I opened a project, the Academic Catalog in fact, in CS5 that we began in CS3 which we were almost finished with and when I tried to check out a story I got this error.
"This story needs to be converted to "InCopy Document" format in order to edit it."
The editor got the same message in IC. So I thought maybe files created by CS3 for IC don't work with CS5 so I decided to try to unlink the INCX files in ID and relink. Sure enough it created a new ICML file which the editor was able to open, edit, and save in IC. And I thought I had my problem solved until I opened the file in ID; when I tried to update the linked file ID crashed. I've tried unsuccessfully to get the updated stories from IC to update in ID w/o crashing. I've restarted the computer; it is Windows afterall. I've run 'Updates' in both our programs, and it says there are none. I've tried tossing the ID and ICML file; fortuanalty I was smart enough to do all this with a copy of the orginal CS3 file. I followed all my above steps a second time and it's still crashing. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a known issue like this?
btw, we're both running Windows Vista and both in CS5 (7.0).

    AM
I might just have to go back to CS3 to finish this project up—fortunatly I foresaw an issue like this and kept CS3 installed. That will most likely solve the problem with this project, provided it too does not crash. And that is my concern for future 'new' projects in CS5, are those going to crash too? I think I'll do some testing with my editor.
    Bob,
What type of additional info would help?
    Thanks,
    Colleen

  • Upgrading from CS3 to CS5.5 Design Premium??

Hi there, I work for a small print company and we are in the process of upgrading from CS3 to CS5.5 Design premium, the company has purchased a new Mac (runs Lion 10.7), our old Mac is on 10.4 and it has run CS2 upgrade, and a few years back we installed the CS3 upgrade. We have not installed any of the creative suite onto the new Mac and I am wondering can I just buy the CS5.5 upgrade and use the CS3 upgrade serial number when installing? Will this be enough?
Or do I need to go back to the initial Creative Suite that the company brought from scratch and enter that serial number?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Just have the serial number from CS3 handy when you install.
More good news for you. Starting today if you buy CS5.5 you get a free upgrade to CS6 when it ships.

  • Opening .psd Files from cs3 In CS5?

I'm new to photoshop CS5 and I'm getting this error on some PSD files "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid photoshop document" and I think its because these .psd files were made/saved in CS3. So is there any way I can open CS3 .psd files in CS5?
If CS3 .psd files should open fine in CS5, then does anyone know what could be my problem? thanks!

There should not be an issue with PSD's from CS3, in CS5. There were some compatibility issues way back, but Adobe offered the ability to include that backward compatibility.
My first thought would be that there is a problem with those particular PSD files. Do they Open in PS CS3? Do they Open fine in programs, like IrfanView?
Now, if there IS an issue with CS5, someone will correct my assertions.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
