URGENT... lost connectivity to Imovie for importing files/projects

Hi and thanks for reading this... I'm slightly above beginner technically, and have assumed a job/role video editing where video files (AVCHD) are imported from Imovie into CS4 on a Mac. Yesterday a dialogue box appeared in the clips bin of CS4, top left, stating "connectivity" was lost (I assume that refers to the link between Imovie and CS4) and to click a button within that window to restore it. Mutliple attempts did nothing.
Subsequently, I now can't re-load existing CS4 projects created from files imported from Imovie, nor can I import clips from Imovie into CS4. (The clips still exist in Imovie, but they won't load into CS4. When I attempt to import, the "import" progress bar appears and completes, but nothing appears in CS4. Also, when attempting to load existing projects created in CS4, not only will they not load, but a different project will suddenly attempt to load in place of the project I attempted to load in.
Of course, several deadlines are breathing down my neck, so any help is very much appreciated. Cheers, Norm

h264.mp4 is actually the most common 'standard' (4000 video 'standards' aaaaand counting)
mp4 is indeed universal (Mac, Windows, Linux), and since YouTube, the h264 codec has a good installed base .....
you can bump into probs only when it comes to sheer amount of data:
for instance cheap 'digital frames' are sortof over-whelmed, if you try to playback 720/30p in high quality.
I'm not familiar with 21st cent devices as SmartBoards ... again, it could happen, you have to reduce resolution/fps/bit-rate to avoid clutter&stutter in the video.
I'm using such encoded files successfully on Playstation3, WD HD TV or flatscreenTVs with integrated usb-connection (via stick), etc

Urgent Lost connection during query !

I'm using Servlet which is running in Linux Operating System and is using MySQL for back-end. This server uses Apache Web Server and Tomcat.
after a moment of inactivty the servlet give me this error message
"Lost connection to server during query"
i initialise my connection into de init() method like this :

Move your code from init to doGet/doPost. In other words, connect to the database just before firing the query and disconnect after that.

Lost all previous Word for Mac files

Does anyone have any contact info for microsoft word (2004) for imac?
Recently lost all old word files, however, it has remembered the last 2 docs. In addition, it stopped listing 'Documents' as a option in Applications -where it was previously along with 'Pictures' Movies' etc.
Apple support staff on phone said I should call Microsoft Word, yet they charge a lot from what I can see for a simple phone support.

General Error for Importing files in Premiere Pro CS6

I have used the adobe Premiere Pro since it's inception, and haven't had this problem with it's persistency before. I've scoured the net looking for an answer and haven't been able to find one.
So, the issue is that common one: "importer reported a generic error".
This is a MacBook Pro computer.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the software, the computer has been cleaned and there shouldn't be any remnants of previous versions, etc. I have also downloaded the functional content from Adobe.
Downloading the functional content, this time, only fixed some of the importing errors. First, it was most of the files, if not all of my media files, from DVDs that could not be imported. (These are My DVDs with My original footage.) Now, after downloading the content files, I have about half of the files as imported no problem, and the other half remain the same.
Is there any answer out there for this particular fix? Thanks for the help!

4 hours sounds about right for this source material on such a system. Better hardware may be needed to reduce the exporting time or you have to convert the source material to a less demanding format.

Apple Loops Utility does not work at all for imported file

I have imported an MP3 into Logic Pro 8, which converts it to an AIFF file, and am trying to configure the project to sync to that tracks tempo. From what I understand, I do this by opening it in the ALU and having it add tempo information to the file.
My problem is that when I open the file in the ALU, and I have version 2.0.1, literally almost NOTHING works. I can hit the play/stop/jump to start buttons and they work. However, the volume control does nothing. Likewise, the Tempo slider as well as the transpose dropdown don't do anything.
On the Transients tab, the Transient Division dropdown and Sensitivity slider are grayed out. Since I've never used this tool before, I would assume that this is how I get the utility to detect the beats in the song. The waveform view just shows the song waveform, with no markers as it does if I open an Apple Loop.
If I switch to the Tags tab, ever single checkbox is grayed out. Finally, if I go to the file menu, all Save options are grayed out.
My first thought, is of course, that I'm just an idiot and that I don't know what I'm doing. However, in searching the forum, I found this post from a year ago where someone is complaining about what seems to be the exact same problem, and they did not receive a single response.

In case you are importing a whole track you won't get the results you are expecting with ALU....
Under *File Type* in the Tags tab select Looping so that the Transients Division and the rest of the settings be active.

how can I get LR 5 to filter files by size on import or in a collection? ie exclude anything under 1 mb

During Import? You cannot. You can filter it using a smart collection after import by megapixel and remove the files if you want but you cannot filter it by megabyte as you are asking - at least not without a third party plugin.

Script for importing files, distributing them to layers, and cutting length?

Hi, is it possible to import a sequentially numbered set of .psd files and then automatically distribute them to their individual layers and cut them each to a specified length of say 4 seconds, timing them to be visible one after another?
I'm working with a series of storyboard panels and would just like to lay them out in After Effects' timeline sequentially, so they would be visible one after the other...is there a script or action to automate this? Thanks

IPhoto or iMovie for imports

I import my movies off my Canon sx200is via a SDHC reader. When I plug the reader in it opens iPhoto and tries to import photos and movies alike. This works, but i wondered if there is an advantage to importing the movies in iMovie instead, like if I want to remove the originals from my HD (onto i.e. DVD) is that easier with iMovie imports than iPhoto? Are there other considerations?

I guess I should be more specific, the question is about managing libraries, which program is more convenient to manage libraries in, iPhoto or iMovie? Are there advantages to importing into one or the other? is deleting my movies after I have backed them up easier in one or the other?

Imovie 6 imported file is sideways?

first when I imported it the ratio got stretched, then I fooled around with the preference, of course not noting what I did, and now it imports in the correct ratio but is on it's side. I have reset the preferences many more times and it always now imports sideways.

I think I have got it !
FCP captures HDV natively but iMovie 6 can only correctly deal with HDV when it is converted to Apple Intermediate Codec during capture. (Under those circumstances I am surprised it worked at all).
I used Streamclip to convert to AIC and everything appears to work well.
I am quite astonished that iMovie 6 has bucked the trend of planned obsolescence and appears to work well with the latest OS.
Perhaps it is due to its simplicity and hence rugged design.
The only thing I can't get to work is the "Themes".

Overrides on Styles for Imported files

I am importing word docs into InDesign to apply formatting and layout but it is applying overrides to the styles. Is there a way to import without overrides?

when I try to download a file. avi, a message appears saying:"the software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system. installing
the correct decoder", how to resolve. The file is a movie downloaded from the internet. thanks

We'll need a lot more detail about that AVI file. See this ARTICLE to get an idea of the problems that can exist and also some background on AVI's (and MPEG's and MOV's).
The problem will likely be with your particular AVI file - not all are created equal.

Monitor folder for importing files

Does iTunes have a feature similiar to MS Media Player that will monitor a selected folder and automatically import any new music?

yes I am not sure if you have to enable it or not, but there are little folders named like '90's songs' or 'top 25 most played', or 'top rated' that put songs that belong to these categories in the folder.

IMovie '08 importing a project

I'm new to iMovie. I created a project, loaded the video, added music, and cut a piece to the music. I then wanted to bring it to a class so I saved the folder and file structure that were saved in my movies/imovie events & imovie projects folders to a DVD. I thought I could just import the assets and the project into the computer at school from the DVD but I couldn't. Any ideas?

iM08 isn't meant to be 'multi user'.. you try to 'share' the whole structure of a project onto 2/many Macs.
that is a tricky process, because iM08 has a very elaborated (or, perhaps: little elaborated :)) ) file management. even copying 'all' files involved onto some disk will 'distroy' the internal links and pointers..
what you can give a try:
on my site, I give advice, how to de-locate Events AND Projects onto some ext. HDD (I would avoid DVDs.. you run into 'permissions' trouble) .. maybe that does work, if you try to open the Project on a 2nd Mac.
