URGENT - My Mini wont Shut Down... Help!

Hello all,
Suddenly I noticed that after I select shut down from the mac menu, the OS closes and logs off as usual, then the video goes out as it should, but, the mini white light STAYS ON and the USB optical mouse stays powered... What happens? I can´t figure it out... the fan, the hard drive and the cd drive go off as it should but the light is always on, the only way is unplugging the power cord, and as soon as I plug it back, the light comes right back on (without touching anything) and the cd drive makes the usual starting noise, but thats it, I need to press the power button to hear the starting chime and then video comes on an starts to boot up like usual... I cleared the PRAM and the PMU with no luck, there is no firmware update available, I don´t know what to do... Please if you know anything about it let me know ASAP!
Mac Mini 1.25 Ghz 256MB 40GB HDD Mac OS X (10.3.9) OEM - No upgrades made yet. 2 years (OOW).

Well,
I tried that also... I use a regular CRT monitor with my mini, a wired-optical mouse and the standard Apple keyboard, nothing else, I even tried it with nothing but the power cable...
I followed the PMU reset by letting it unplugged for about 10 secs, then connecting the power cord while holding the power button, during this time the light is off, then I release the power button and a few seconds later the light comes back on again, just by itself, and pressing the power button will give me the startup chime, the noises and all what is suppoused to do, I get the welcome screen and everything just promtly, as if nothing had happened!! It just wont turn off!! Weird!!
Thank you all for your help!

  • EXTERNAL HD WONT SHUT DOWN AFTER SHUTTING DOWN LOGIC ,HELP

When Im done recording in logic and after I close down the session and shut logic down. I then try to shut down my external HD and I get a message saying " LOGIC IS STILL IN USE AND EXTERNAL HD CAN NOT BE SHUT DOWN, TRY QUITTING APPLICATIONS AND THEN SHUT DOWN" Logic is already shut down and there are no other applications running and it wont let me shut down my external HD. I tried to switch HD's and it still wont shut down after I close all applications. PLEASE HELP....

When you say shut down, you mean "eject" right?
Will it, incidently, eject during a session when you haven't used Logic at all?
One thing you should make sure of with your external HD is that it is formatted correctly - it needs to "un" journalled... may not be the problem, but worth checking.
What kind of external HD is it?

  • My iPad mini keeps shutting down.

Ever since we got a new modem, new router and new ISP, my iPad mini keeps shutting down, and disconnecting from the internet.  When it disconnects, if I go to settings and try to re-connect, it just shuts down. This happens quite often...every ten or fifteen minutes. Our other iPad is fine. Once when we re-booted the router, I was fine for a whole day. I tried that again today, but it didn't help.

    Hey Thifobia,
I see that your iPad is unexpectedly powering off while you are using it. Here is an article for you that addresses this issue and has some troubleshooting suggestions:

  • Ipad wont shut down properly

what do i do if ipad wont shut down properly? just keeps spinning

Well I just got home so it has not been spinning for about three hours.
I have tried to force quit it to no avail.
I think I will have to make an appointment with Apple to see just what is going on since I don't know anything else to try.  I guess when I wake up in the morning the battery will be all used up.
I thought that maybe if I connected to my computer it might kick it into a working mode but that did not happen.  i only got an error message (OxE8000065). whatever that means.
    Any other ideas?
Thanks for all of your help.

    Hi,
Try restoring the iPod touch, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Do you have any 3rd-party firewall software on your Mac? Another user, Luc, describes a similar issue caused by firewall software here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10499334#10499334
If the issues resolved by disabling the security software, it probably just needs to be reconfigured.

  • IMac wont shut-down

    Hi folks,
i`ve got an Intel iMac 24 inch 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with Mac OS X 10.4.11 installed. Very often the iMac wont shut-down. When i choose the shut-down command from the Apple menu the Finder quits, the Icons on the desktop, the Dock and the Menu bar disappear. Then the screen turns blue and i see the grey spinning wheel but it wont go further. I always have to disconnect the power cord to shut-down my iMac. Here is what the system.log says:

Perhaps this is an app booting on launch that's not helping matters. Here are some ways of preventing items from opening automatically ...
If the login window appears when you start up your computer, hold down the Shift key and click the Login button. Continue to hold down the Shift key until you see the Dock.
If you don’t see the login window when you start up your computer, hold down the Shift key when you see the progress bar in the startup window. Continue holding down the key until your desktop appears and the startup completely finishes.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Accounts. Select an administrator’s account, and the click Login Items. If any unwanted items appear in the list of items that open automatically, select the item and click the Delete - button.
You could try resetting the SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543

  • ITunes wont shut down

Sometimes, especially after a long session using my iTunes, it continues to function but wont shut-down when I try to close it. The only way to close it is to initiate the task manager and shut it down via override.
Is there a fix needed for this problem?
Does it signify a more serious problem?

i have the same problem and it is really annoying. i want apple to fix it but i have delt with it for almost two years now.

My macbook wont shut down when I close lid, how do I prevent this?
This had happened before and I seem to recall having to disable blue tooth.
    Is this correct?
    Charles

It's not suppose to shut down when closing the lid, it's supposed to sleep.

  • Netbook NB305 Wont shut down.

I have had my net book for about 2 weeks and it now will not shut down. I can put it to sleep or hibernation but it wont shut down or restart. Cntl/alt/del wont work either, so I dont seem to be able to shut it down, either with or without the ac cord attached. I have run a virus check and there is nothing wrong.

    Hi
What happens if you go to start -> shutdown? Do you get any error messages?
Maybe there are some different processes running in the OS background which prevents the OS from shutdown.
I would go to msconfig and would check the startup tab.
There you can find some apps which would be loaded while booting up the unit
Maybe its just a OS issue
The other solution proposal; try a system reinstallation. Maybe this is a option for you

  • Macbook pro wont shut down without holding the power button nor cycle for updates to restart.

macbook pro wont shut down without holding the power button nor cycle for updates to restart

Sorry I said sorta wrong. I can shut down and I can update to the point of restart but it just sat for 45 minutes after an update. It goes through the update and to restart then the bars chase each other in a circle and it never restarts. So I hit the power button and go through normal reboot but loosing the update in the process. It does not matter how long I wait for a natural reboot after an update or click to restart it will chase the little bar in circles all day literally and never reboot.
