URGENT!!!  My System Preferences doesnt show arrangement pane!!!

i have 2 displays working but they are in mirror.
i followed instrutions on help but i dont have nothing saying arrangement so i can put the displays in extended desktop.
can someone help me??
thanx!!

Hi, lindezas.
If the Arragement tab is missing, this means that your video card does not support Extended Desktop.
See this post on the Mac Mini Discussion.
Help from an older version of Mac OS X is more explicit on this topic. The article "Mac OS X: Multiple displays setup doesn't work" states:"The Arrange tab in Displays preferences only appears when you have more than one graphics card installed in your computer and your computer can display an extended desktop."The video card in your MIni can only support one display. A video splitter does not permit Extended Desktop.
Good luck!

  • AirPort does not show under System Preferences Network Show

    Hello,
I am having problems with my AirPort Express. It is listed in AirPort Admin Utility (with an IP Address), but does not show up under System Preferences > Network > Show.
How can I get the AirPort recognized?
    Thanks,
    Fidelio

In System under "Network" it shows "AirPort Card" with "No information found"
Your Mac does not have a wireless card installed or it is not working.
However, I would like to set up a shared printer and instructions I have for this say that I need to get the IP address of AirPort under System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort.
That information should have nothing to do with a printer since the information there relates to your Mac... not to the AirPort Express (AX).

I am not able to open my 'system preferences' it shows up on top, but the window just won't open. I haven't installed anything new, I have also restarted my computer, but still encounter this problem. Help?

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • System Preferences - "Accessibility" showing on start-up everytime

    Hi,
    Need some help.
    I'm using a 15 inch 2011 Macbook Pro, running Mavericks 10.9.3
Everytime I start up my Mac, an ACCESSIBILITY window pops up, I would need to click CANCEL or OK. Either way, once I click, it goes to SYSTEMS PREFERENCES. I would exit that, and then that is the only time that it continues to startup and show my desktop. If I don't do anything, my Mac won't continue to start up.
How do I take this out? so that when I power up or start my Mac, I would just go to the desktop and fully start up.
    Appreciate any kind of help!
    Thanks everyone!
    Regards,
    glnikolai

It's likely that one of your login items is causing the problem. Select the Login Items tab in the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences. Delete any items that you don't recognize. If you're not sure which ones to delete, double-click each to test it.

  • HT204053 Although I have iCloud, my system preferences still show Mobile.me.  I have to sign in with my mobile.me ID which is not the same as my Apple ID. I want to change my iCloud ID and password.  How do I do it?

Although I can access iCloud, my system preferences on my iMac still show Mobile.me.  I have to sign in with my mobile.me ID which is not the same as my Apple ID. I want to change my iCloud ID and password to be consistent with my Apple ID and password.  How do I do it?

you need to be running OSX 10.7 or 10.8 to use iCloud i believe. It shows you are using 10.6.8 which doesn't support iCloud.

  • System Preferences - "Displays" shows no options

    Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone has encountered the following issue since upgrading to Leopard and whether you have pointers on how to fix it?
After upgrading to Leopard a week ago, System Preferences option "Displays" shows no selectable options. It comes up blank. I have installed the latest update to OS X (10.5.1) and this update has not resolved my issue.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I see you've not had any input on the "Displays" issue. I just upgraded my PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz, 2 GB Ram to Leopard 10.5.2. I even reinstalled the OS a couple times, which is a pain, but still didn't get any options. It says "loading displays" if I single click the preference. If I double click it shows a blank gray window. If you have resolved this problem please pass it on.
    Thanks.

  • I want to set up icloud, but on the system preferences only shows mobile me

i want to set up icloud on my macbook air but is not in system preferences. where else can i look

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Mavericks. If you get told it's incompatible, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7; all MacBook Air models support at least 10.7.5.
Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as Microsoft Office 2004.

  • Urgent, my system preference freeze up

I got my desktop/screen saver system preference panel freeze up after I tried to change the desktop. I uploaded a pic to use as my desktop background and now every time I go back in there to change it, the window freezes up on me and I can't do anything except force quit. Any suggestions about how to repair this problem??? I cannot go even other system preference option.. I do not know how to fix it.. I just upgraded to Lion OS about a week ago. please let me know how to do it...
thank you very much for your help.

If that happened to me, I would try Force Quit (from under the Apple icon in the Menu Bar), then choose System Preferences (force quit System Preferences and start it again).

  • System preferences not showing

I recently had to re-install my entire system from original DVDs, then used Time Machine to re-capture all my data. After Updating the software, I had several programs not operating. I did a Custom Install which solved everything except System Preferences and Preview. They are dead Icons with a "?" on my Dock and do not appear in the Applications Folder.
Does anyone have a clue how to solve this?

    Hello Al,
Just a thought.   There is a Combo update for 10.6.8 which you can download and apply over the top of any other updates.   Still takes a bit of time but it is useful to know this often corrects minor glitches in the system.   If the problem comes up again, try it.
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
Usually you should follow up with software updates just in case there are security or iTunes updates.

  • System preferences doesnt display text

The usernames will not display at startup, none of my drop menus will display and there is no text in system preferences!
    Help Please   =)

If it really looks Greek, you might want to search your system for the word "Cyrillic."
It could be there's a Times Cyrillic on there that is conflicting with times.
Look in your Font Book while you're there already,
and search carefully for a font that looks like the one you're seeing.
Let us know how you're doing, OK???

  • HT5622 icloud doesnt show up in my system preferences, it shows moblile me

How can I access the website i created with mobile me.

Up to and including iWeb '08, it was only possible to publish to other hosts by 'Publishing to a folder' and then uploading that local folder to a website host using a separate FTP client. From iWeb '09 an FTP method was built-in, making it easier to publish to a host other than MobileMe.
In order to upload your existing site in iWeb '09 and above:
Click on the name of the site in the sidebar: the publishing settings pane will open. Set 'Publish to' to 'FTP'. Enter the name of the site and a contact address (if desired).
In the 'FTP Server Settings' section you will need to know the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. Your site will be published in a folder with its name at root level of the server, with an index.html file at root level (which will overwrite any index.html file which may be there already). The 'Directory/Path' field may need to include a path such as '/webspace/' or 'ht_docs/' - this is dependent on your hosting service and they should tell you this. If you want to publish within a folder you can add that to the path.
You can then click the 'Test connection' button so that iWeb can check that it can get access to your server space. You should enter the URL of the site in the 'URL' field so that rss feeds and internal links have the correct address.
To publish using an earlier version of iWeb:
From the File menu choose 'Publish to a folder'. You should create a folder somewhere convenient specifically for this and choose it when publishing to a folder: this folder should not contain anything else.
You now need an FTP program (FTP is the 'protocol' used for uploading) to upload the contents of the folder to your server.Cyberduck is free (donation requested): Transmit is $34 but I think better. You will need the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. You can drag the contents of your folder to your webspace, or create a folder there and drag the contents to that if you prefer.

  • (System Preferences - Keyboard - Show Keyboard & Character Viewers in menu bar

This question is directed to eliminating the use of the physical keyboard to login with passwords as added protection against potential keylogging.
Does anyone know (for sure) if the OS X virtual keyboard viewer would be safer to use for the above purpose than typing on the physical keyboard?
    Thank you!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take an action that isn't working the way you expect. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • System Preferences not showing all pictures in Desktop & Screensaver

This problem only happened recently, whenever i go into system pref to change my desktop i do not see all the preview pics from my picture folder. Even though i do not see them in the system pref window i can still click on them and it will still set them as my desktop. Would having alot of high res pictures make them not show in system pref?
    Ibook g4 12''   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

it is possible that with a large volume of large res pix in that folder that the little "preview icons" take some time to generate. Also, i have noticed that not all my graphic files will generate a "preview" even if the app in question can utilize and read the file.
