URGENT: No bootable device, but NO shortcuts work!

Ok, here is what has happened so far:
1) failed boot camp install of WinXp SP2
2) restarted and got the BSD
3) no keyboards shortcuts work anymore at this point (wired aluminum keyboard)
4) go to store and buy a cheap windows usb keyboard
5) now I'm able to boot into windows install disk, but still NO apple shortcuts work
6) deleted windows partition from windows install utilities
7) rebooted - still the same problems
8) using windows install disk, delete all partitions
9) reboot - get no boot device available error message
10) tried unplugging the iMac and waiting - didn't work
11) tried holding down the power button while starting - didn't work
12) still (opt + cmd + p + r), (c), (alt), (cmd + alt + o + f) do NOT work with the apple keyboard or the windows keyboard.
Please help, I've run out of things to try.
MacBook Pro 2.0Ghz 15.4"   Mac OS X (10.6.5)   2 - (iMac Intel 1.83Ghz White 17"), 1 - (iMac Intel Silver 3.0 Ghz 21.5") 1 - (MacBook Pro 2.0Ghz 15.4"))

restart keeps memory alive, shut down and startup has to load the bios from scratch. I would replace the cmos battery, they tend to be cheap, but sometimes not easy to replace on a notebook.
A service manual for a G60, may not be for your specific model but will be close.
you could test your memory modules
the memory modules, post back the results.

  • Bootcamp "no bootable device" Option key not working

Ok recently rebuilt 2 older "Intel Core Duo" Mac Mini's with SSD drives. They work great and have been flying, however on one of them I wanted to setup BootCamp so that I could run Win7 Pro on it as well.
So here is what I did...
    - When I first built the Mini's I used a bootable Firewire drive with Snow Leopard installed
    - I had the drive divided into 2 partitions at first
    - when I tried to install BootCamp error message kept telling me it needed only one part, so I finally made Primary OSX part one big part, then I was able to get BootCamp going
    - I choose "I have Mac OSX Install disc" because "Download the Windows support software" would not work
    - Next it created the BOOTCAMP part and told me to put Win OS disk in drive
    - I put in an OEM Win 7 CD I borrowed from work, so I could see how it worked.
    - When it rebooted, it Did not recognize CD and all screen said was choose Option 1 or 2, (neither option had any text, and the keyboard would not take any input)
    - Tried numerous times to get back to OSX, used every boot option I could find online but none would work.. Also Mini would not give back CD for nothing
    - Next I opened up Mini to get to CD, I had a friend that was able to get one out by opening up the actual dvd drive but I was trying to avoid that. So what I ended up doing was using a putty knife to keep CD from spinning on bootup. After about 10 to 15 seconds of the CD not spinning, it finally kicked it out for me. (YAY!!)
    - New problem, now I have the "No Bootable Device - - Insert Boot Disk And Press Any Key"
    - I have tried the following. Removing the drive and plugging in a Sata to USB cable so I can access it from other Mini
    - I thought that if I deleted the BOOTCAMP part it would allow me to boot back to OSX, I tried renaming Part to what it was before, I have tried putting in a Formatted drive with no OS on it, I have tried installing the contents of a Win 7 OEM CD onto Formatted drive as a single FAT part.
Nothing Works, I am either stuck at the "No Bootable Device" screen, or if I turn on Firewire drive with Snow Leopard I get a blinking cursor that never shows any text.
At this point, I don't want BootCamp on that Mini anymore, I just want my working OSX, but I cant get anything to work and I'm afraid to stick a CD in the Mini for fear it wont give it back to me and I end up damaging it getting it out. I even created a CD with rEFIt on it, but after I formatted a totally different drive and the Mini is still expecting to finish what it start with BootCamp, it leads me to believe that there is some BIOS or data stored somewhere that is not on the harddrive. If so, could I pull the RAM, or push some sort of master Reset button some where?
I'm also thinking that I need a non mac USB keyboard, perhaps maybe there or know Aluminum Keyboard drives in the memory where the Mini is trying to finish the BootCamp install.
As a side note, I sure wish Apple would have designed the Mini to fail Safe not fail broken.
    Please Help.
    Randy

The Formatted test drive did not have Any OS on it. I just thought that since that was how I installed it originally, that it would work.
I put in SSD straight out of package, connected Firewire drive with SnowLeopard install, and it booted to it and asked me for to install to which drive, I choose SSD and it took off..
So what your saying is, do the same thing but hang SSD from broken Mini onto working Mini and boot up with same Firewire drive, and have it install OS back onto Broken SSD drive.
Assuming all of this works correctly, why would plugging it back into broken Mini work? Wont the Broken Mini still be looking for BootCamp to finish what it started? (just seems that way from what I've experienced so far)

  • Macbook air stuck in No bootable device, external keyboard not working.

    Hello.
Yesterday tried to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp. As everyone else got to "No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key."
After few seconds I realized that keyboard is not working. Googled it and found out that I need to buy an external keyboard. So I did.
Guess what, external keyboard is not working too. Tryed with different PC, it worked with them.
    So what now?

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • Sync on Windows 7 using Outlook 2007 - Lifredrive, legacy device, but it still works

    1. Installed Windows 7 RC on a Dell D610 (2.0Ghz Pentium M with 2Gb ram)This includes Office 2007 - this machine is surprisingly fast by the way at least beyond my expectations.  Afterall it's not a fast computer by today's standards
    2. Installed Palm Desktop 6.2.2
    3. Used drive mode to copy certain files off the PALM Lifedrive
    4. Installed Palm Outlook 2007 conduit
    5. Did a hard reset back to factory defaults
    6. Active sync failed so I uninstalled and resinstalled the conduit making sure that Active Sync and Outlook were both turned off
    7. restarted both active sync and Outlook
    8. synchronization worked with Outlook... really, and I'm using USB for those that are curious
    9.  bonus, I have no idea why but all my photos re-appeared, it's as though it searched the entire drive for photos and moved them back to the Palm.  Or the hard reset didn't delete those files. I didn't check
    10. Have not tried lifedrive manager program because it never worked on anything beyond XP, but who knows I might try

  • Why is Bootcamp is not working right on my MacBook Pro (No Bootable Device)?

I am not a computer geek but I learned a lot through reading forums and other people’s experiences. I want to use Windows 64bit in order to work on an Architecture portfolio using AutoCAD, Revit, 3DS Max, Sketchup, Photoshop, and Illustrator. I use these programs at school and on a PC and love it. I want to use these programs at home but wasn’t confortable with the Mac version so I had Windows installed on Parallels but even after upgrading my RAM to 10GB my computer was quite slow so I rather work on my projects separate from my Mac side (also, would feel less distracted) and set up Windows on Bootcamp, but I’ve encountered some issues.
I wasn’t planning on partitioning my hard drive until after updating to Mavericks. Then I noticed I did not have the option to create a Windows 7 install disk so I reprogrammed the info.plist for the option to appear. After following all three steps, the computer restarted with a black screen that read “No bootable device – insert boot disk and press any key”
-Pressing any key didn’t help so I restarted and held the alt/option key until the booting options popped up and only got
         -Macintosh HD
         -Recovery HD
-Did not get a Bootcamp boot option so I repartitioned the hard drive to a single volume and repeated several times and still the same thing
-I tried using Disk Utility to partition, but the results were the same
-I tried using a different Windows7.iso file and still the same
-I also tried a 2.0 and 3.0 USB thumb drive for the .iso file
-Bootcamp Partition shows up on my Finder window on the side tab under ‘Devices’ and shows up on Disk Utility, but not on Startup Disk and not when I start my computer and hold alt/option.
-I did not plug in the Windows Support Software at all (I read somewhere that said not to plug in until after Windows partition boots and installs, but didn’t even get to that point)
-Had no CD nor USB plugged in other than the flash drive that carried the .iso
-I read a comment that said to copy the files bootcamp made (WINISNSTALL) to the ‘root’ of the flash drive, but that I see they are already on the ‘root’ (unless I don’t know what root is?)
-I also tried reformatting the partition on Disk Utility from MS-DOS (FAT) to Windows FT Filesystem but fails every time
-I also made a backup, and restored the computer (took hours!) and repeated everything
-After trying almost everything, I still get the “No bootable device – insert boot disk and press any key” message.
When it gets to reformatting, I have no idea what I am doing, the only reason I am trying all these methods is because of what I read on other peoples success stories and comments, but its either my computer does not work, I am missing something, or I’m not geek enough.
-Just to let you know, the first .iso I had worked on Parallels but not for Bootcamp
-I don’t think this matters but I am trying to partition my 320GB hard drive at 70GB for the Windows side. The only thing I will be installing would be the architecture programs while my projects and files would be saved on an external hard drive.
-Computer is up to date at version 10.9.1
-MacBook is from Early 2011, 13-incher
-The only method I could think of that I did not try was using a DVD to create an .iso disk because most comments said USB gave the best results.
-Should I use my Hitachi 250GB External Hard Drive 2.0 instead of a USB Sandisk 16GB 3.0 and Verbatim 4GB 2.0
PLEASE HELP ME ANY ADVICE WOULD HELP!! And Happy Holidays!

Your post is incredibly hard to read, font is way to small.
If you used Boot Camp Assistant to create a partition to install Windows to you need a REAL Windows 7 or 8 install media and license key and you have to actually install Windows on your Mac. Boot camp is only for creating a partition to install Windows and starting the Windows install from REAL Windows install media.
That Windows install media has to be a DVD disc, if your Mac has a built in DVD drive (Apple does not allow Windows to be install any other way on Mac computers that originally come with a built in DVD drive), or from a USB stick with the actual Windows install files on it (Not an ISO of the Windows install files).
So the question is did you install Windows on your Mac? It doesn't look like it from the Option key boot and the list of available Boot Devices you posted.

  • Trying to Install Windows 7 onto MBP Mid-2010 but I get this "No bootable device -- Insert boot disk and press any key". What do I do?

I'm trying to install Windows 7 onto my MacBook Pro Mid-2010 (MacBookPro6,2) from a USB drive, since my Super Drive no longer will burn DVDs or CDs. I did the XCODE trick to allow me to make the bootable USB. But when it reboots after partitioning I get this, "No bootable device -- Insert boot disk and press any key" message. When I press a key after reinserting the USB it still won't boot after pressing a key. I unplugged anything connected to it and it still doesn't work. Is there any way I can get it to be recongized or do I just need to get an external disc drive and burn a disc that way?

If your computer came with an inetrnal optical drive, you must use that to install Windows.
