URGENT! PLEASE RESPOND! Ipod/Itunes trouble.

Please be patient while I try to explain all that's happening.
Sorry if it's a little long, but I want to make sure I include all of the details so someone can actually help me:
I am trying to disconnect my ipod from the computer by clicking the eject symbol located next to it in itunes. Usually after I do this, the ipod disconnects and no longer displays the 'do not disconnect' screen so that I can disconnect it from the usb port.
Here is what happens when I click it now. I get a message that says:
"The ipod 'Sharon's Ipod2' cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application."
This has happened after the iTunes would not recognize my ipod for about 5 tries of opening and closing iTunes. So, I repaired the iTunes program and now it's recognizing my ipod, but it no won't let me eject it. I'm afraid to just pull it from my computer for fear of losing all 30 GB on my ipod.
What could this possibly mean???? I have no other programs running on my computer right now except for iTunes and this page I'm typing in at apple support.
please help. my ipod and itunes has been working beautifully since I bought it in October- 2 months ago.

I do have anti-virus software, but I don't think it's running at the moment. How do I make sure it's not?
Also, I'm not sure what you mean by do I have a drive open? The ipod is assigned a drive in windows explorer because I have photos and notes on it like I always do.
What I don't get is why I've never had this problem before and I haven't done anything different.

  • Please HELP! Itunes trouble! I NEED of assistance.

    Ok, well long story short, my Itunes does NOT open.
    This has been going on for a few months but I just pushed it aside until today because I got an Iphone today.
    This is what pops up when I click the itunes icon:
    http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f111/batboy99/untitled.jpg
    The error code(-50) is listed on the actual apple site as a problem that usually occurs, but it isnt the same problem as I have. Usually this error pops up when downloading purchased content on Itunes, but my problem is that Itunes wont even open up! I havent put music on my ipod for months. I've tried uninstalling and redownloading it a dozen times and I've even tried to ''repair'' it, but nothing helps.
    Please help me. I'm basically an idiot when it comes to computers and I really need your guys expertiese(sp?)
    so please make it as easy for me to understand as possible.
    Thanks so much guys!

    The error -50 when launching iTunes nowadays usually means there's a problem afoot with your Apple Application Support. So we'll try uninstalling both your iTunes and Apple Application Support, and then reinstalling iTunes (which should also reinstall Apple Application Support). We'll take a few other explicit precautions along the way, just in case. Best to print out a copy of these instructions, because at one stage of proceedings you won't be able to use a web browser.
    Preliminaries
    Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (installer) file to your PC. (Don't run the install on line, and don't start the install just yet.)
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    Quit QuickTime and/or Safari if you have them open. Both applications use Apple Application Support, and they will interfere with the uninstall if you have them open (if you can open them at the moment).
    *Uninstall phase*
    Head into your "Add or Remove Programs" control panel. Uninstall iTunes. Uninstall Apple Application Support (if it is listed in there).
    (From this point on until we reinstall Apple Application Support, neither QuickTime nor Safari 4.0.4 will be able to run.)
    Next we'll remove any leftover program files and folders.
    (1) Open "Local Disk (C:)" or whichever drive your program files are stored on.
    (2) Open the "Program Files" folder.
    (3) Right-click on the iTunes folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
    (4) Open the "Common files" folder.
    (5) Open the "Apple" folder.
    (6) Right-click on the Apple Application Support folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
    Now empty your Recycle Bin and restart the PC.
    *Reinstall Phase*
    After the PC restarts, do not open any other applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus and antispyware).
    Now start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file you downloaded earlier.
    Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.
    Did the install seem to go through okay? If so, does iTunes start launching properly again?

  • Ipod-Itunes trouble

    i recently had to like, kinda, reboot my computer. But mysteriously....itunes stayed on. I plugged in my Ipod Nano and all the songs i had purchased, plus added were on my ipod, but they arent in my library! It wont let me add the songs from the ipod to the library, is there anyway i can?

    You can't sync or drag your music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs but not playlists back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
    If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

  • First iPod, iTunes, trouble

    When I installed iTunes it began the conversion of my WMA files to iTunes format. Unfortunatley my disc filled before it completed. I have moved the files to a larger disc but cannot see how to reactivate the auto conversion feature. Can anyone help?
    Norm

    1300 songs is a fairly substantial wodge of disk space, so your thought might be the best one here.
    if it had been fewer, i might have tried just doing the conversion anyway, then going "edit > view options" and selecting "date added", and then sorting the itunes library on the "date added" column by clicking on the column header. that would gather the songs from the first conversion run together for easier selection purposes. then you could have selected that lump of songs and deleted them.
    but to save any possible confusion, it would probably be best (in your circumstances) to clear them first and then do another full conversion run.
    (maybe do a disk defrag after the deletion?)
    2400 songs ... goodness, that would take an eternity to convert ...

    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod + itunes = blue screen of death & reboot - HELP PLEASE!

    I'll try to make a long story as short as possible here.
    i've had a 40G ipod for over a year and a half now. back in the beginning things were working fine. with the size i hadn't done any syncing for a long long time. however, the ipod crapped out so i got a replacement from the apple store.
    after registering the new ipod i was having trouble syncing. it would upload a few hundred songs and then freeze or cause a reboot. i uninstalled the ipod software as well, installed the latest itunes software - over the previous version, installed the latest ipod updater software and restored the ipod.
    again, i was able to sync for brief periods in 3 different tries - amassing a whole six hundred and something songs. after each try itunes said syncing was complete (but not even close - had just over 2000 mp3s looking to sync up). unbelievably things got worse. now, if the ipod is docked and itunes is running - regardless of which is done first - my pc will get the blue screen of death and reboot itself.
    also, without itunes and the ipod docked, it shows up as an i: drive, but when i try to browse it though my computer, it locks up the machine and shows nothing.
    any help out there is GREATLY appreciated!
    here are my specs:
    - ipod 40 Gig, with click wheel and four buttons below the screen with
    dock & firewire cable
    - pc running windows xp pro
    - firewire card with 3 ports
    - ipod & itunes software located on 120G c: drive
    - mp3 collection located on secondary 160G d: drive
    - 3/4 gig of ram
    p.s. i have mcafee running and i've tried everything with it on as well as off. doesn't seem to make a difference.
    also, i have checked a TON of posts on apple.com as well as other discussion groups and couldn't find an answer.

    hi Douglas!
    first promise me that you'll back up your data. having your PC shut down in non-standard ways (for
    b any
    reason) increases your risk of file corruption and putting scruffy spots on your hard drive.
    Now some basic first aid. download some fresh definitions and do some vigorous virus and spyware scans. run your favorite hard-disk checking utility. do a disk cleanup.
    now let's follow up on the blue screen of death. Perversely, i've started to become pleased when people report BSODs under these circumstances. we can wring a lot of information from a BSOD error message. there's also usually something concrete to go on in the error logs.
    (1) what BSOD error number and message are you getting? here's a reference:
    http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm
    (2) squeeze your error logs for all they're worth. right-click on "My Computer", select manage. click on your event viewer. click on your application and system logs, and look for errors and warnings happening at roughly the same time as your crashes.
    click on the relevant warnings to see if you can find any commonalities in the errors/warnings. follow up the Help and Support links to see if you can find any suggested "User action" or relevant MS KB documents. (sometimes these things are there, sometimes they aren't.)
    good luck! keep us posted.

  • IPod nano problems! PLEASE RESPOND ASAP!!

    HELP!
    A couple days ago I had to re-format the computer due to a virus. I didn't save any of the songs that were on iTunes. That night I listened to some songs on my iPod. The next day I plugged it in my computer for it to charge. When it was done charging, I went to listen to some songs but there were NO SONGS ON IT!! I have no clue what happened... has this happened to anyone? Does anyone know how to fix it? Please respond ASAP!
    Thanks,
    Molly =)
      Windows XP

    Hi Molly,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    Copying songs from your iPod to your computer
    "The iTunes library on your computer holds all the songs you've encoded from your CD collection or purchased from the iTunes Music Store. With default settings, iTunes automatically copies the songs in your library to your iPod. When you use your iPod as a hard disk, you can't see the songs iTunes copies to your iPod in the Finder or My Computer. This is normal. Using the Finder or My Computer, you can't copy these song files from your iPod back to iTunes or to any other computer. The synchronization between your iPod and your computer is always one way: from iTunes to iPod.
    If you've erased the music library on your computer, there's no way to use the Finder or My Computer to copy the songs from your iPod to reconstitute the library on your computer. One solution is to encode the songs from your CD collection again, then sync your new library with iPod. If you purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store and didn't back them up, there's no way to download them again. You'll have to buy new copies of the songs."
    Taken from Using your iPod as a hard disk
    So even if there were any tracks on your iPod, Apple has set it so you shouldn't be able to get them back.
    You need to reload iTunes with music, and then get into the habit of backing them up as well. Once you've done that you can start loading onto the nano.
    To help with backing up your music this link will explain what the files are:
    What are the iTunes library files?
    If you have problems with your nano here is a useful link:

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

  • My phone won't turn on. I have tried the Power button   home button several times and even held it for over 3 minutes.. When I plug it in it still won't respond to itunes PLEASE HELP!! A little water got in it but it was like a drop or two..

    My Iphone 4g, won't turn on, I have tried the power button + home button several times and held them for over 3 minutes. It won't even respond to Itunes and I can't restore it because of that. A little water got into it before it completely shut off but it was like little drops.. Please HELPP.
    I also have tried  to put it in rice and left it there for 9 hours and it still doesn't work

    A drop or two of water may have been enough to cook it. If it was bad enough to prompt you to put it in a bag of rice, then I'd venture to guess it was more than a drop or two.
    Try putting it back in the bag of rice and leave it there for several days.
    If that doesn't fix it, then you're more than likely looking at paying for an out of warranty replacement.
    Water and delicate electronics don't generally get along well.
