Urgent question about resizing videos in Adobe Premiere

Hello, forgive me for asking such a noob question but i have a presentation due in about 10 hrs and Adobe Premiere is giving me some headaches with the video i'm trying to make!
I am trying to alter the dimensions of a movie in the 'monitor' window (the objective being to put 2 different movies side by side in the same timeline, but that's irrelevent). Screenshot is below
http://s5.largeimagehost.com/display...sXUF&skey=nv28
I've seen it being done before - their should be a border around the frame in the 'Sequence 01' tab that lets you resize it with your mouse. But It's not appearing for me... . is their some hot key or something..? It's probably something really obvious but i can't find it...

You will also find links to many free tutorials in the
Premiere Pro Wiki that will quickly
show you how things are done in PPro, including picture-in-picture effects.
Cheers

  • Easy Question about resizing video

I searched 'Resizing Video' and there was too many unrelated results to a really simple question.
In my old program "Premiere', to resize and move a video around was very easy. You could adjust the scale and X-Y values numerically, or you could use a Free Transform like in Photoshop. Simply dragging bounding boxes for size and aspect and also dragging the clip to decide it's location.
The only way I know how to do this in FCP is I double click a clip in the sequence, it loads into the viewer, I go to the Motion Tab and then I can adjust the Scale, which is cool. But then I'm left with the Distort section to adjust position (and aspect if need be). In the Distort section there are 8 numeric fields of info to figure out and fill out just to get one clip in a different position correctly.
I'm thinking there must be another way to adjust the location (or aspect) of a video clip without spending a bit of time on exact coordinates, I want to eye-ball where I want the clip to go and simply move it there. Is the Distort feature the only way to do this? If not, which is the fastest way to move and change the dimension of a clip.
Thanks for reading, I hope there is another way, I'm not use to these calculations and they're slowing me down.

That's because it's not a simple question at all and yet every one of those threads was related to the OP's question. As you discovered, there are lots of ways to interpret "resize," during capture, editing, effects, output, viewing, encoding, printing. But the solution was even simpler than you thought. All you had to do was open the manual or the online help system. Start taking the manuals to the gym with you. FCP is not Premiere. You're going to hate FCP, you're going to love FCP but it will never behave like Premiere beyond the elements of the functional paradigm. Forget Premiere.

  • Importing Videos To Adobe Premiere Elements 11 Only Shows Black Screen

Why is it Importing WMV Videos To Adobe Premiere Elements 11 Only Shows Black Screen.
    Thank You In Advance

    mrtomr4455
Forget about all the rest until you check out the Announcement at the top of this forum regarding the current 1/2 wmv display related to a recent Windows Update kb file. I missed the wmv part of your initial question by focusing too much on the thread title.
Here is a copy for your convenience
Announcement: Windows Update Causes Half of Display to Be Blacked Out
    Hide Details
MicroSoft has issued an Update for Windows, that is causing problems with Displays. The following is from Talbot McInnis, who tracked down this problem, and offers a fix:
"MS bulliten MS13-057.  Specifically, on XP kb2834904 and on windows 7 kb2803821 is causing a problem
For us, it occurs when decoding WMV9 files.  Not all uses of WMV decoding are affected, but I confirmed that when connecting the WMV decode DLL to a sample grabber for RGB32 video, the frames arrive black on top, so that points directly to decoding internals of the WMV Decode dll.
You can uninstall these windows updates to resolve your problem."
There are several threads on the problem that this Update is causing on the PrE and PrPro Forums, so one can get more details. So far, there is not another fix from either MS, or Adobe.
Also, see this Adobe KB Article: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/wmv-files-corrupted-import-or.h tml

  • How to transfer the content of the video to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 for editing ?

    Hi there,
I have an old video camera that is still working. That video camera uses a Hi 8 tape. The tape is bigger that the current DV tape. The size of the tape is something like a tape cassette.
How to transfer the content of the video to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 for editing ? Being an old video camera, the output doesn't have any firewire or USB connector. In fact the only output is has is the Yellow, Red & while connector (is this referred to as composite).
So, how do I input this Yellow, Red & White cable into the PC (or rather into Adobe Pro CS3) ?
Any established hardware/convertor to recommend ?
    Thanks

    Ryan,
For "composite out," only you will need an A-D "bridge" to Capture from that camera. Grass Valley/Canopus offers two really good ones, the ADVC-110 and the ADVC-300. There are others and also PCI A-D capture cards, but the Canopus units get very good reviews.
One other workflow would be to hook your older camera to a digital video camera with passthrough (not all have this and it is being discontinued fairly rapidly in consumer cameras) and then doing the Capture through that digital video camera via FireWire. You will not have Device Control, but can easily start/stop via the mouse and one hand on the switches, or on a remote.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Color on exported video on Adobe Premiere Pro Is a bit off from the original source video

I have both Cyberlink powerdirector 10.0 and Adobe Premiere Pro C6
I noticed that adobe premere cs6. when exporting the video.. colors are a little off.. never matching the same tones as the original
    source
i took a screenshot  so you can see what i mean.. Notice Adobe is a a little mor orange. is there a way to fix this? Cyberlink powedirector always matches the source color when you export it. except Adobe Premiere Pro CS 6
i have windows 7 64 bit (Nvidia GeForce GTX 670M

Thanks for answering. I ddi notice different media players show colors different. But on the screenshot i just showed you.. all 3 are from the same media player.
For some reason everytime i export a video from Adobe premiere pro the color is never the same as the source on media player. I tried it on 4 different videos. Other software programs like cyberlink power director export the video with no color change.
1)The original source from the picture is a mpeg-4 (avc)
2)i always use wmv codec to encode all videos. So the shot from Premiere Pro was using WMV codec. and the other shot (cyberlink powerdirector) was also wmv to encde.
    3) I even tried to see if maybe i used a  different video format to encode it would fix the slight color change. like h264 and mov.. but nope still same issue
    4) I did what you told me to show the source and exported video on Adobe Premiere and really weird. the exporterd video from Adobe Premiere now shows the exact color as the source.. but the exported video from Cyberlinkpowerdirector shows the color a bit different.

  • I couldn´t see imported videos with Adobe Premiere pro

    Hello:
My name is Oren. I´m from Spain, and this is my problem.
One month ago I bought a Toshiba Satellite 850-31M. It has an x64 processor, 16 GB of RAM and I have 2 hard drives, the c: an SSD of 500 GB and other of 1 Tb hardisk, configured as D:. It has a GeForce GT 630M graphics card with 2 GB of RAM. W8 operating system.
I wanted to try the Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and I downloaded the trial version. No problem, until I tried to import a video in the source window. Appears a small window that says "importing" and give to play in the source window and start .Audio be heard, but not the image. I've tried different video formats and always the same. The same video are seamlessly Quick Time and other video viewers ..... I do not know what to do, I think I've tried everything, even restart the computer to its factory settings and install Adobe Premiere vacuum and the problem remains. I tested with a trial of Premiere CS5.5 and got it. You hear the audio but no video . Insert the video in the timeline and recognizes it as such, even the first frame, but said, is not seeing in the "source", nor in the preview, only the audio.
What could it be? Am I you could lend a hand I'm desperate?
    thank you very much

    Hello:
I have the vídeos in a hard-disk. I'd tried in different video formats and
always the same. I hear the audio but I couldn't see the video image.

  • Questions about Air Video.

Hi, I have a couple of questions about Air Video for the Ipad. I have my Mac Pro downstairs and my PC upstairs. Does the Ipad have to be near the computer in order for the videos to play on the Ipad? I have a bunch of videos on my external hard drive. Would it work if I have an external hard drive plugged into the computer or do the videos need to be on the computer itself?

Air video will convert the video for streaming, this includes downscaling it, so it will stream smoothly over the bandwidth available on the network.
Placing media directly on the ipad allows 720p video.
Reality is you will not be able to tell the difference between dvd resolution and hi def on a screen the size of the iPad's.

  • Odd, Green video in Adobe Premiere CS4?

Hi! This has been happening to me a lot lately, and I really need a fix!
When editing my projects, I will have imported a lot of video files.
Before dragging those files into my timeline, I like to preview them.
However, sometimes, the video does not play.  The sound does, but all I see in the preview are random frames from other video files that I have imported. (Ex. Say I preview a video of a dog barking, which works.  Then, I try to watch a video of a cat meowing.  I hear the cat perfectly, but random frames from the dog video are all I see in the preview area.)
Random videos also turn green when previewd.  I will not be able to hear them, like last time, but the whole frame is green and I will not be able to see them. On the timeline they are black.
I usually solve this problem by restarting, but I have to get this project done!
I recently imported a WAV file and an mp3 file into my project. ***The video files are in MP4 video format.
OS: Windows 7 64-Bit Home Premium
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU    Q8400  @ 2.66GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7Ghz
    Memory: 6142MB RAM
Card name: ATI Radeon HD 4650
Everything is on my C:/ Drive.

    Hi Everyone,
Thanks so much for the initial response to my question - I really appreciate it!  Everyone in this forum is EXTREMELY helpful, and I hope I can find a solution.  I have taken your advice and am currently going through all of the troubleshooting stages listed in the above, but, have not yet had any luck thus far.  I figured I would post here, while I continue to troubleshoot on my end.
    Specific Problem:
I have several .mp4 video files in my project timeline that I captured via a Hauppauge HD PVR capture card.  When I load the project, only some of the videos do not load properly.  The thumbnail photos for the videos that don't load properly are simply green, and when I play it, only the audio from the clip properly plays.  The video is either just a green screen, or it is a black screen with random still images from OTHER video files I have in the timeline.  When I restart the computer, and re-open the project, the affected video files are different every time.  I have about 40 or so different clips in this project, and the ones that seem to get affected by this problem are the ones that are last to load.
Also, once the project is loaded, and I see that some of my video files are affected by this problem, the computer seems to really lag, and Premiere Pro has trouble operating.  Premiere Pro often gets the (Program Not Responding) message, and I have to force close it, and restart my computer, to ensure a fresh start.
Also, when this PP is having its problems, my whole computer slows down.  I have a widget on the desktop that shows CPU and RAM usage.  When PP is having its problems, the RAM meter goes up to 95 - 100%.
    What I've Learned So Far:
I downloaded and ran the Sherlock Codec Detector and the Gspot Codec program, and have determined that my computer is missing the following codecs:
    Broken Codecs
      "MainConcept (Adobe2) AAC Decoder"
         FileName       = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS4\ad2daac.ax"
      "MainConcept (Adobe2) H.264/AVC Decoder"
         FileName       = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS4\ad2dsh264.ax"
      "MainConcept (Adobe2) H.264/AVC Video Encoder"
         FileName       = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS4\ad2evh264.ax"
      "MainConcept (Adobe2) MPEG Audio Encoder"
         FileName       = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS4\ad2mceampeg.ax"
      "MainConcept (Adobe2) MPEG Video Encoder"
         FileName       = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS4\ad2mcevmpeg.ax"
When I click on each of the codecs, I get the following error message: "The driver file for this codec was not found. This probably means the codec was not unistalled properly".
In Gspot, I have similar results, and it says the file is missing for these codecs.
Do you guys think this is the problem?  If so, would it be a simple fix as to just download the codecs I am missing?

I've posted this question in different terms a few times and have not had an answer.  I can't find the answer on the Premiere Pro support site either (which makes me think that a simple solution doesn't exist)
We use adobe premiere pro 4.  We capture DVCAM tapes with 4 discrete audio channels.  When we export the video using adobe encoder, the result is stereo tracks with the discrete audio channels mixed together which is completly useless to us.  When I select Mono for the output settings, two channels of audio are mixed into one audio channel.  Also useless.
When capturing the clip, we always use the mono timeline and modify the clips to mono. We can edit the discrete audio channels but when we export the video, the audio is mixed down.
this is the problem.  Each of our  4 audio channels contain a different language of dialogue.  When exported, these 4 get mixed down to 2 mixed channels blending of course the language.
Can Premiere Pro 4 export discrete mono audio channels?  How do you do it?
Does version 6 have the ability to export 4 discrete mono channels?

    Hi Steve,
Important info is missing from your post - what format are you wanting to export to, and for what purpose? We need to know how the exported file is intended to be used. Who's going to view it, using what gear? Is it for another editor to work with? End user viewing?
    Thanks

  • Missing Visuals in video clips (Adobe Premiere Elements 10)

When I load up my video editting program (Adobe Premiere Elements 10) everything appears fine.
It's only when i try to load a video into the program that things go buggy.
The Video Clip appears on the timeline. The Audio works perfectly fine. However, the video, or image for that matter doesn't appear in the "viewing screen" (can't think of the right word
If I add a video effect to the clip (for example, Auto Color) then the picture becomes visible.
But, when I then render the clip, the picture disappears once again.
I'm no expert with computers or programs so i am pretty lost on what's wrong.
The last time I used the program (which was about a week before New Years Eve, 2013)  it was working perfectly fine. I've used the program for the past year with little to no problems, so I am baffelled as to why this has happened now.
Any kind of help would be really appreseated
I even still have the original disc I bought when i first installed the program, so if i need to uninstall then reinstall the program it will be eailly done..
Thanks in advanse for you help

Along with the Intel Graphics there is something called "NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M"
    nothing more then that.
That is probably at the core of your problems, and we need to explore this. My take on this is that you have 2 things going on here.
    1. There is an epidematic of display problems targeted specifically at the Premiere Elements 10 user whose computer uses a NIVIDIA video card. (You have Premiere Elements 10 and one of your video cards is NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M.)
Typically the drill is to have the version of the video card driver up to date. In this case, the fix is to roll back the driver version far enough not to have the display problem. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has not stepped forward to correct the situation.
Check out the following link to see what you are up against regarding the NVIDIA side of things.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1317675
    2. On the other side of things, you have an integrated Intel Graphics card as well as the NVIDIA. There can be conflicts when two video cards/graphics cards are involved (independant of the NIVIDIA issue). Typically you see disabling of the integrated card, in your case the Intel Graphics. But, I am not sure where that would lead stability wise.
You could look at both areas and see if you have displays gains for one or the other. I would look at rolling back the NVIDIA first.
Please review, and then we can discuss this further.
    Thanks.

  • Quick (and urgent) Question about Intel G5's

Just a quick question about the new intel G5's.
I currently have bunch of software for my PPC G5 which is a Dual 2ghz. Software includes Adobe CS2, Macromedia Studio, Quark 6, etc, etc.
If I purchase the new intel mac, would I be able to use the same software? or would I be forced to purchase a whole new set of everything I currently have?
If the software will work on the intel G5, would it perform at the same rate/better than how it performs now on my PPC g5?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Rosetta:
Most of the time you get a real 'hit' when a program first opens that is PPC. Very sluggish. They will require and use more memory than otherwise, too.
Tests from last August aren't as helpful, there have been improvements, letting the Mac Pro pull even further ahead.

Comparison Mac Models shows scores of all models. So there is 2x as much or more processing power, bandwidth, better video, as well as disk drives. A 'base' configuration would be 4-6GB RAM.
And there are differences, more than between G4 and G5.
People with experience would be Mac Pro Discussions
Don't use Migration Assistant, and upgrade to CS3 etc. reinstall all your applications fresh.
There are some drivers and plug-ins, that can be problems, and known.

  • How do I import Pinnacle Studio 15 videos into Adobe Premiere Elements 12?

I no longer have Pinnacle Studio after replacing crashed computer. I installed Premier Elements 12, but cannot figure out how to import all of my old videos.
    Jim Engles

    ATR,
Thanks for your interest and time. Sorry I did not explain myself initially.
The files I was trying to import were saved as Pinnacle Studio “project” files. So they must be .stx, as you say. In Windows Explorer I cannot determine the file extension; all I can see is the project folder name and subfolder names.
Now that I think about it, when I was last working in Pinnacle at least two years ago, I had the option on how to save my files and I saved them as “project.” In fact all of the backed up videos are under an overarching folder named my video projects.
I did find two backed up files with an .avi extension, which did import.
So the best solution would be to find a computer to borrow that has Pinnacle installed and open and save the files to export as .avi.  If that doesn’t work, I will try to find a trial version of Pinnacle to use.
Years ago a coworker told me to buy Adobe Premiere instead of Pinnacle. I wish I had listened.
    Thanks,
    Jim Engles
