URGENT QUESTION/TOPIC ABOUT LIGHT LEAKAGE

okay, so after attempting to fix my light leakage on the side of the 3rd iphone I've had so far (because it's around an hour travel time to my "local" apple store), I noticed something odd. There is light spots visible on the BACK of the iPhone!! Yes, through the plastic. I was looking at pictures of the disassembled iPhone, and it's almost like someone forgot to put that black tape against the sides of the LCD/glass screen component. Does anyone else have this problem??
Go into a dark room, turn brightness all the way up, turn the phone around and place your hand against the screen of the iPhone to make it easier to view... The light should be visible through the Black (or white I assume) plastic near the left and right edges (kind of on the same line as the ringer volume adjust and silence switch.
Any comments would be appreciated as I need to get this phone replaced (if it needs to be) asap because I have to go back to college soon and there isn't an Apple store around for miles...
thanks guys!
PS: I'll try to post pics later

lol funny ...
i have had the same problem with 2 units in Canada.
UNACCEPTABLE.
I think apple forgot the quality control aspect of the making of the phone. Simple thing to do is return it. I returned both units. Apple needs to do a better job in ensuring this doesnt happen. Its an obivious problem and when you are forced to join a 2 to 3 yr term you expect to pay for what you get. I guess when Apple brought the phone down to 199$ the quality went right down. I'm on my 5th unit.
Best of luck ... I would exchange it!

  • Light leakage question, need help...

I bought an iPad 4th Generation 3 weeks ago an it was fine or maybe I don't see any defects before... Then yesterday I started to notice the light leakage in several spot like on the left side of the screen and on the corner near the speaker... Is it fine or should I be worried about this?
Would there be issues like this in iPad air? I'm planning to get a new one for my father next month.
I am not thinking about getting it exchanged and just preferred to do something that might fix this issue myself since I bought it in macstudio store in Kuala Lumpur and now I'm staying in Yogyakarta (Indonesia).

Are you scanning as jpeg, tiff or some other format?
Are you using continuous numbering for files names as by definition scanned files have no exif data.

  • Urgent Question about System Center Server Names and Dashes

Hey guys I have a quick Urgent question that would be awesome if it happens to get answered quickly :).
So in the past we had problems with different server names in components of System Center when setting up different servers.... I never myself saw the errors or what it did, but an absentee colleague did. For example is anything wrong with a name setup like
xx-scom-01 / xx-scom-02  as compared to the standard scom01 scom02? We have a certain naming convention we are moving to and I wanted to see if this was fixed. I wanted to say it had something to do with the hyphens... anyways any foresight anyone can
    provide would be awesome. Thanks!

Dashes in the name will work fine.

  • Is light leakage/dead pixels considered DOA (dead on arrival?)

I have my Ipad 2 engraved, and I just realized I could not return it for a refund or exchange unless it's a DOA (dead on arrival) as mentioned on http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/salespolicies.html#topic-21:
"Personalized iPods (e.g., engraved or customized in any way) may not be returned for refund or exchange under any circumstances unless such product is Dead on Arrival (see the section below for more detailed information on such Dead on Arrival products)"
Also, according the the Apple's definition, "an Apple-branded hardware product is considered DOA if it shows symptoms of a hardware failure, preventing basic operability, when you first use it after opening the box. "
So I'm guessing light leakage, the yellow tint and/or the dead pixels are NOT considered something that prevent "basic operability"?
If I can't return it, can I send it in for repair instead? Under the standard one-year limited warranty for Ipad, do I need to pay for anything?

The way the "replacement" works with an engraved product is that it's Apple's choice to repair or replace. If Apple replaces it (which may be more likely with an iPad than with an iMac, say) then Apple will send you a new (unengraved) one. (And the choice to repair or replace is Apple's anyway, engraved or not.)
Speaking just for myself, I chose engraving because that was going to increase my enjoyment while I use my product. Speaking again just for myself, there's certainly a market for engraved items. Just knock a few dollars off the price and some of us will gladly take your engraved version off your hands.
If you really are concerned about resale value (I've only sold one of my 8 Apple computers and zero iPods or displays so I couldn't care less about resale value) then keep the box and packaging, keep it pristine, and buy AppleCare.

  • Light leakage from under keys on new 15" MBP

I just got a new 15" Macbook Pro, it's a stellar machine, just wondering about a few things.  Below a few of the keys the light seems to leak or bleed out a little more on some keys more than others when viewing or sitting at a ceratin angle.  Also below my J key I noticed a little pin hole size blue light that somebody pointed out is probably just a logic board light.  Are these things common to some extent on most MBP's?

    Hi d,
The "light leakage" is not unusual - it's been on every MBP I've seen (if you look at it from the "right" angle). I'm sure there are better and worse keyboards due to manufacturing.

  • Is the iPad 2 covered by an International Warrenty Re: light leakage

My brother in-law returned from the USA at the weekend from business and bought me an iPad 2 back from the Las Vegas Apple Store, as I had asked him to. I'm experiencing the light leakage along with the video camera shooting weird colours.
My question is, am I able to visit a UK Apple Store to hopefully exchange/resolve the problems with my 32GB WiFi iPad purchased from the USA.
He has given me his receipt too.

Yes, your apple warranty should cover you irrespectively. I bought my MBP at the Apple Store in NY and have had it fixed a couple of times under warranty via my local Apple store in the UK.

  • Visible light leakage on ipad 3, very annoying

Just received my new ipad (32G wifi, black).   After turning it on for the first time I noticed a visible light leakage at the top edge of the screen, it is at least one inch long and very annoying indeed!  I've googled this issue and found that there are some others complaining about the same thing, while one guy mentioned that, for his device 'the leakage disappeared after 2 hours of use'.   well, I've been using it for at least 3 hours and it doesn't seem to get even a little bit better.  I'm quite disappointed as my ipad 2 has no such issue at all, not to mention that the new ipad seems to generate more heat, makes it uncomfortable to hold it like a book.  I'm bringing it to my local store tmr, hopefully they can do sth about it.

I have this issue as well.  I can see the backlight on the top left of the IPAD when held in portrait mode. To the left of the front facing camera. Can only be seen if you tilt the ipad almost horizontally.  It doesn't appear to effect the screen quality so I’m not in a hurry to replace it. Maybe I’ll bring it in later before the warranty expires since it is actually a defect that should be covered.

  • Excessive light leakage from gap below some keys on MBP

Hi all, I got a top of the line 15" MBP a little while ago and recently noticed excessive light leakage from the little gap below some of the keys.  It's really only noticable below the W and E keys when sitting or viewing from a certain angle.  It can be quite annoying at times.  I spoke to a couple of Apple support reps who said that it's common to some extent on most MBP's.  I also took it in to my local Apple store, and they said it's "within spec". I was kind of hoping for a better answer after spending almost $2500 on the thing, but whatever.  I came across several posts on various Apple forums with people posting about similar issues going back as far as 4-5 years, so obviously Apple hasn't done a great job addressing the issue.
I also noticed a little pinhole size blue light below my J key, which someone pointed out was probably just a logic board light.  Are these things common on MBP's?  I figure I can get a more honest opinion on here than from Apple support or "geniuses".  Any help would be great, thanks!

  • Light leakage in the corner of screen

Hi, can someone help. I have light leakage
At the corners of my screen on the iphone
4s if i press down on the corner where the
Light is showing it goes so it seems as though
The casing comes away very slightly. Has
Someone else got this problem. And is it
A big issue or something that is just nothing
    To worry about.

Without seeing how bad this is it's hard to comment. It won't affect the functioning of the iPhone but if you think it is excessive then take the phone to an Apple store for evaluation or contact Apple support.

  • Tomorrow I will get my 3rd ipad2 due to light leakage!

I'll let you guys know how it works out, I will try a different store this time. I am a little mad about this issue.....

Look..in the scheme of important things in life, especially with all that is happening in Japan as I type this, the light leakage is no big deal....BUT..
Having spent over $1100.00 on my iPad 2 with all accessories and apple care, tax etc and replacing my original iPad that I had no issues with and having light leakage around the edges of the new one ... This is a situation that's not acceptable...especially with such a high ticket item...
If all of my LCD display tv's and pc monitors had this issue it would be a problem...
Apple needs to and most certainly will take care of this issue....Foxconn will have to eat a lot of displays I will tell you that...

  • My question is about the 'Restore Backup' option on iTunes (Not 'Restore iPhone'). So, if I click on Back Up Now, then 'Restore Backup', would that go through the process of erasing everything on my phone as new then restore whatever iTunes has backed up?

My question is about the 'Restore Backup' option on iTunes (Not 'Restore iPhone'). So, if I click on Back Up Now, then 'Restore Backup', would that go through the process of erasing everything on my phone as new then restore whatever iTunes has backed up?
I do not want this to happen, as with previous experience iTunes doesn't restore a mirror of what the iPhone was when it was backed up as is the case with iCloud backups.
What I am trying to do is, as I've found a method on Youtube, there is an application where I can delete all the multimedia saved in my 'iMessages' so clear up some space. As doing that manually through the phone would take a lifetime. The method is to backup on iTunes, then using the backup created, importing that into the application then deleting the messages through that then restoring the phone using that amended backup.
So back to my question, would restoring through 'Restore Backup' just restore the backup internally or would it flush the entire phone and then restore the backup? And if it does so, what would be lost in the restore?
    Thank you all,
    Fahmid

iCloud should overwrite your phone with the data stored in your account, preserving your newer data.  However, to be sure I would go to Settings>iCloud and turn data syncing to Off before restoring the backup.  Then, after restoring the backup, turn the data syncing back to on, and when prompted about Merging with iCloud, choose Don't Merge.  This will ensure that the data in your iCloud account overwrites the data on your phone (which is your goal).
Also, you don't sync text messages with iCloud so you will end up losing your more recent messages when they are overwritten by the backup.

  • Urgent question:can you replace source video and automatically have AE swap clips in timeline?

    Hi there
Have an urgent question. I have finished editing a project that has been edited from pre-exported videos, but the problem is that i have been notified last minute if it is possible to change parts of it!
Is is possible to change and re-render the pre-exported clips at same length that are affected and then replace the 'source footage' in after effects to have it automatically swap the clips that I've edited and cut up already? As it would take a very messy and extremely long time to manually change all the trimmed parts!
It is only a small section of the source clip I need to change, but the overall composition edits are fine so I don't really need to touch that, it's just really to replace the footage but have everything to stay the exact same.
    Please advise!
Appreciate this if anyone can! fairly urgent
    Thanks

Yes, just right-click on a source in the Project bin and choose Replace Footage.
