URGENT: RAID5 Configuration on RD120 Server: Scenario A vs. Scenario B

This particular issue isn't server specific, but I am posting in this forum because it just so happens to be a brand new Lenovo RD120 I am working on.
Also, sorry for the urgent status but I have a very small amount of time to find the answer.
My issue concerns how to config RAID 5 redundancy and get 2 partitions, in the best possible manner, considering disaster recovery, and performance (but I really am not concerned about performance since this server is way over speced for the function it will be performing). The disks are 250GB X 3 so for simplicity let's just say total space is 500GB (of course total space is less due to misc. overhead).
I want to have 2 partitions on my future Windows 2003 installation; A "C" drive which will hold the OS, and an "E" drive which will hold data. I have 2 ways to accomplish this:
1) Config RAID 5 array with a single container to present to the OS. Have the OS installation create a partition 100GB for itself within that single container, then install the OS. Once installed, create a second partition for the remaining 400GB.
OR
2) Config RAID 5 array with 2 containers to present to the OS: 100GB and 400GB. Install the OS to the 100GB logical disk, and use the 400GB logical disk for "E".
I've Googled this every which way, and cannot come up with a difinitive answer. I also checked with our local server "expert" who says it does not matter which way to do it, and that he would do method #1.
Now I understand that both ways will accomplish what I am trying to do. HOWEVER, in terms of disaster recovery, I am leaning toward method #2 because we had a scenario 6 months ago where a server was configged this way and we lost container #1 (the OS), but container #2 remained intact (the data). We rebuilt container #1, then restored the OS, and it was beautiful; no loss of data from container #2.
SO, does having multiple RAID 5 containers introduce any negative concerns such as:
-More likely for RAID5 config to go corrupt (during events such as hard power loss, etc).
-Performance loss (I am not concerned about this but I would like to know)
-Premature hard drive failure (just a guess but I thought I'd mention it).

Just to add to the topic as maybe anyone else might benefit from it.
I would suggest similar what Eric proposed. If you already have 3x250, instead of RAID 5 please buy additional 250GB HDD and use 2x250 RAID 1 for OS and 2x250 RAID 1 for data.
Also for data part I would suggest (if there's available bay) another 250GB disk as hot spare.
Disaster recovery is always more expensive than 1 spare HDD, esp. when server's lifecycle is 3-5 years.

If you have multiple DC's in that site i would recommend using any of the partner DC's IP addresses as preferred one and secondary DNS IP to pointing to itself. Dont use loopback addresses configure it with actual IP addresses.
If you have only one server in branch office point itself as the primary DNS and HO DC as secondary and tertiary.
Make sure that all clients in your branch site are pointing to the branch DC as primary DNS server.

Hi,
I can assure you there is nothing more than that.
We just went through something similar.
Do you have a static IP address on the internet that you can access your application server from?
If not, you need to contact your ISP and obtain one.
Once that is done...
you need to open port 7778 (unless you've changed that port) on your firewall and forward it to your application server. Or however your firewall works.
Now...
Instead of typing the host name in the URL, replace it with the IP address.
There is nothing more than that.
As long as it works on the intranet it will work on the internet.

did you checked the ur IDOC outbound status?
also check IDX5, whether it has reached XI system.
plz do check all ur settings:
1. Create RFC destination to XI in SM59 transaction
2. Create a port in we21
3. Create partner profile we20
4. we05- Idocs monitoring
XI Settings:
1. Create RFC destination to XI in SM59 transaction
2. Idx1 Port maintenance
3. Idx2 - Metadata maintenance
4. Idx5 All Idoc inbound and outbound messages

Problem - SFDC does not create cases from emails that have more than 10 MB of attachments. Our clients will not go-live if their clients cannot send in emails with attachments over 10 MBs
Potential resolution - Configure MS exchange to strip off the attachments(if over 10 MB) and store it in a public folder, forward the email to Salesforce (so the case gets created or the email
is associated to an existing case), the client should have some way to know if the attachments were stripped off and should be able to dlownload the attachments and continue with case resolution.

From your description, you want to achieve the following goal:
Configure Exchange to filter the attachments if the size is over 10 MB and store it in a public folder, and then forward the email to Salesforce.
Based on my knowledge, I'm afraid that it can't be achieved. Exchange can filter messages with attachments, but it couldn't store these attachments on public folder automatically. Also, I don't see any transport rule can do it.

Hi Ganesh,
In order to access the Visual Administrator, go to Start > Programs > SAP J2EE Engine > Visual Administrator. After you login, you will see 2 nodes i.e. Dispatcher and Server. Expand the Server node. Then go to "Services" and expand it. Then go all the way down to "TREX Service". Then on the right hand side, go to the property "nameserver.address" where you will key in "tcpip://<nameserver>:<port>". Then hit "Update" and click on the "Save" button. Then when you go to TRex Monitor, you should be able to see the Name Server running. Hope this helps.

How to configure Oracle HTTP server

Hi, I installed APEX 3.0 in Oracle 10.2.0.2 database. I installed HTTP server from Oracle 10.2.0 database companion CD. The problem is I am not sure which conf file I need to modify as in the installation document, it only shows steps for how to configure HTTP server 9.0.3/11g/Oracle Application Server 10g. Configure the Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) from the companion CD is the same for other OHS (apart from OHS 9.x where it uses wdbsvr.app).

Configuring a Directory Server for Digital IDs and Certificates

My company is moving toward using electronic signatures for internal documents. All of the users are on XP machines and have Acrobat Professional 8.0 installed. So far, I've been manually adding trusted IDs for each person who will be receiving signed documents that need to be validated. I'd like to make this a little easier by storing everyone's certificates on a server (Windows 2003) so that people can just go out there and add them all as one .fdf file. What I'm wondering is, what is the difference between doing it this way versus going through Acrobat and configuring a directory server? Will it work either way?

For The specified server are already present in the directory services,

The method mentioned in the blog above is trying to move the old information that stored in AD, and then take an action of re-authorisation of the DHCP server.

How to configure a proxy server for Windows Azure Tools in Visual Studio 2013

I would like to use the Windows Azure tools in Visual Studio 2013 to manage my Azure Web sites (Server Explorer -> Windows Azure -> Web Sites) from within my corporate network which is secured using a proxy server. Unfortunately, I am not able to use
the Windows Azure tools since the required HTTPS connection to windows azure is not going through the default configured proxy. Instead, Visual Studio tries directly to connect to port 443 which is blocked by our corporate firewall (and yes: there is no way
around using our proxy server). Other visual studio features like NuGet, updates, etc. work fine and use the configured proxy server.
So my question: How can I configure visual studio respective its Azure tools to use a proxy server instead of a direct connection? I already tried configuring the proxy server within the file devenv.exe.config but this doesn't show any effect for Windows Azure
tools.

As we have very similar problems I consider the found solution a work arround an existing problem which will not work if corporate FW policy does not allow such changes.
In my mind, any tools in charge of dealing with some sort of FW protocols should deliver the following information, should make it absolute clear how to setup that the request packages are setup rigth at the first time.
a) proxy server
b) proxy port
c) proxy user
d) proxy users-password
e) proxy.auth.Preference="BASIC"
And for moste tools (including Visual Studio and AZUR Tools) it is absolut unclear
a) how to setup that on a per tools basis
b) OR who inherits this information from whom i.e. use the same as IE does, what if we use FireFox or any other browsers?
I understand that developers requested to cure such problem areas will often have difficulty to gain all required elemenst used to realy test the solution.
But I can tell you: I loos more time figthing down the FW setups for my clients. WHat I do at home in a sniff, takes ages to be realised by all the various clients on the market where each has to deliver the same sort of information but actually does not,
or has it just somewhere, but not in the vicinity of the demanding user.
Good examples i.e. NetBeans IDE where the Option Menu shows very clearly what information is required to pass through a FW/Proxy; but even there, the hint to start with a BASIC authentication schema is not part of this OPTION menu and must be added a JAVA
environment value. But at least, it works.

My requirement is to configure the file server where u will have all the structured and unstructured data stored here. So users can share the documents and create, edit ,save the documents from the file server itself.
In KM what kind of file servers are there apart from the one it supports by default.
Can anybody pls provide the configuration steps regarding how to configure the file server i KM.
To configure the file server is webDAV protocol required?

Dear Sireesha,
Well KM supports mostly all the File server however we have some restrictions with Novell FS and Sharepoint Server from Microsoft. Like versions and other meta data have some issues.
Alsothough to configure a File Server you need to first create a FS repository Manager. Details can be found in the help guide:

Yes WebDAV protocol is required here.
You can create WebDav RM as well.

How to configure ODI for server and client correct?

this is my first post and i hope you guys can help me out ...

am new to ODI and WLS and in my case ODI need to run on a server where a couple of clients can connect to, work on the same project with their own workspaces and accounts.
The database will be located on the same server.
As far as i understood, i need to install the the ODI Java EE type (not the standalone type) with a WLS ?!
iI already nstalled
JDK 6u41 (x64),
ODI 11g (11.1.1.6, generic),
Oracle DB 11g R2 enterprise and
WebLogic 11g (10.3.6, generic)
on the Server and now i am trying to connect to the ODI repositories from a client with an ODI standalone installation.
I am now trying to insert a Data Source into the physical agemt (not even sure if i need to do this in my case).
Following these instructions (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/integrate.1111/e12643/setup_topology.htm#CHDHJBAD) i get an ODI-26029 error.

since testing the connection on the server site failed in first place, i couldn't test the connection on the client site.

Error while configuring the application server for ESB on Jdeveloper

While i try to configure a application server connection on Jdeveloper for a remote installation of ESB (advanced mode with all the three components together and not in a cluster mode) i get the following error :

All the OC4J processes are running on the server as i get the following output for the ./opmnctl status command :

i tried with taht.....same error.......is this an issue with port 6003 on the server........it is a linux server and I cannot telnet to it......i can use SSH though.......how to know whether the opmn port(6003) is open or not?.....

Configuration of standard server, 10.5.4 install disk, small office, DNS

I've reinstalled more times than I care to count.
Been on the phone with support people- no one seems to know how to install standard in my config.
I have a fixed business class IP-
it connects from their modem to my Apple Extreme basestation N gigabit
which then connects to a 24 port gigabit ethernet switch.
The server is manually mapped by MAC address to 192.168.0.2
In the standard setup-
It asks for login to Apple Extreme basestation N gigabit- I provide- password- then configure manually (rest of computers use DHCP)
I supply.
Manual configured ip at 192.168.0.2
subnet 255.255.255.0
router 192.168.0.1
left DNS blank.
Standard install.
The ethernet is configured to run through an ethernet card from my xserve- since the internal one doesn't seem to register.
I used the MAC address for the machine in the Basestation to route to this mac address and reserve .2
once it gets completed- it whines: server cannot connect be found on the network check that the server hostname
etc.
System prefs> Network settings- DNS I've tried with 192.168.0.1, I've tried with 127.0.0.1 and with 127.0.0.1, 192.168.0.1
nothing works. I've even tried with 192.168.0.2
It can't find server.name.lan (note I changed my actual 3 letter name for "name" in this example)
it can find 192.168.0.2 sometimes - but slowly.
I've reinstalled this about 50 times now.
I've even done it with someone on the phone-
at no time have we had:
Jabber working at server.name.lan
server.name.lan resolving to the wiki page
calender working
and vpn enabled.
I've lost countless hours with this-
My employees haven't been able to work at times (like tomorrow morning- because we keep all our files shared on this server).
this is getting to be uber ridiculous.
suggestions?
The last install- I tried it name.private
going to terminal- it still says to repair dns.
There is a spot in the airport Internet settings for domain name- should I put in name.private or server.name.lan?
I've also tried the disconnect the ethernet cable routine- that one tech had me do-
I now know how to go into terminal and check- using sudo ipconfig -checkhostname
where I have not been able to get the two entries- always get the message to repair dns.
This shouldn't be that difficult.

The most obvious problem from your posted details is:
left DNS blank.
You can't do this. You HAVE to have working DNS somewhere.
For the initial setup this could be a DNS server managed by your ISP. If you're configuring internal DNS then it could be your internal DNS server (or even 127.0.0.1), but not until that server is up and running.

I don't understand this statement. MAC addresses don't (or, at least, shouldn't) come into the picture at all.

192.168.0.1 won't work - that is your base station and your base station is not a DNS server.
127.0.0.1 won't work until you configure and start up the DNS server in Mac OS X Server.
192.168.0.2 won't work either - for the same reason as 127.0.0.1. It will work once you configure the DNS server on this machine.
So it sounds to me like your first order of business is to setup the DNS server. During the installation process you were asked which services to run. Make sure you enabled DNS then use Server Admin to configure your DNS zone.
