URGENT scanned PDF convertion?

I have a disability and have my uni readers scanned to PDF to listen to them in natural reader. I have to highlight passage to listen but it needs to be converted into word. I bought the converter from adobe and it looks like it is downloading then goes to a blank screen and no files are there??? Could it be the size of the file? or how do I select text on PDF. The readers are made up of excerts from many books and scanned into readers so we have all the required readings, however I need them read to me by the natural reader software which requires highlighting the text....

Hi Melinda,
Try clearing your browser cache.  If that doesn't work, please try accessing the ExportPDF service from another browser, such as Firefox.  Then we can at least try to narrow down if the problem is with your network or something larger.

  • I have Nuance PDF Converter 7.2 and after I scan a document and want to email it, I get an error message that says the scan cannot be attached to an email.

I want to be clear: I can scan the document with Nuance PDF Converter 7.2, but after the scan, I want to email the scan to someone.
When I click on the word "email" on the left side of the Nuance screen, I get a failure message. For a couple of years this process worked without a problem. I was told by Nuance Support that the problem was in the email software. Is there something on a drop
down menu that I can click on the resolve the problem? Thanks.

The problem could be that your computer doesn't have Thunderbird identified as the default e-mail program, so the first step is:
Thunderbird: Menu bar: Tools: Options: Advanced Tab: System Integration:
    Press the "Check Now..." button.
In the resulting "System Integration" window, make sure that "E-Mail" is check-marked, and "Always perform this check when starting Thunderbird" is checked. Then click the "Set as Default" button.
If you have Windows 8 or 8.1, then there is also another step:<br>
Windows Control Panel: Programs: Default Programs: Set your default programs.<br>
Find "Thunderbird" on the left side, and click to select it.<br>
On the right side, click "Set this program as default".<br>
    Then reboot the computer.<br>
If the problem still exists, then do a clean install of Thunderbird:
Certain Thunderbird problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Thunderbird's program files and then reinstall Thunderbird. Please follow these steps:
#Download the latest version of Thunderbird from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download is complete, close all Thunderbird windows (Click Exit/Quit from the menu button on the right).
#Delete the Thunderbird installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #** C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\
    #** C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Thunderbird from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Thunderbird with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Thunderbird on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ Thunderbird Download Page], simply remove the folder ''thunderbird'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Thunderbird:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to open Thunderbird after clicking the Finish button.
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Thunderbird's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Thunderbird data, including but not limited to, extensions, emails, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>
Please report back to see if this helped you!

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 plus I create PDF files for work some are scan pdf docs. When I install Photoshop Elements 10 it DOES convert all the PDF files to Photoshop Elements-10 Docs. it even changes and shows the PSE-10 Icon. So I am alway installing PSE-10 or uninstalling it. If I send the  PDF file that has been automatically converted to a PSE-10 the person I send the file to can not open it because they do not have PSE-10. What can I do to stop PSE-10 from converting my PDF files? Don't tell me to upgrade PSE-10 I tried their on-line program and  it is too advance for a hobby photographer like myself and their Help Desk is impossible to reach.

    Hi,
Can you please share the logs?
You can use the Adobe  Log Collector tool (Log Collector Tool) and share the corresponding zip file @ [email protected]

  • Scanned pdf email attachment - converted to text pdf - file then renamed to specific contents

    Hi All,
Im new to the world of programming, So forgive me if this is a stupid request.
I'm wanting to use a mail rule in outlook to call a vba script, to save all attachments from a certain email address. I have successfully done this part. Using the below code:
    Public Sub saveAttachtoDisk(itm As Outlook.MailItem)
    Dim objAtt As Outlook.Attachment
    Dim saveFolder As String
    saveFolder = "c:\temp\"
    For Each objAtt In itm.Attachments
    objAtt.SaveAsFile saveFolder & "\" & objAtt.DisplayName
    Set objAtt = Nothing
    Next
    End Sub
Now my problem is the saved attachment is a scanned pdf (non readable). I'm wanting to convert this into a readable text pdf, then extract certain data from the now readable PDF and use this data to rename the pdf.
Now i've done some reasearch on the subject and I believe adobe SDK has a function to allow this, I was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers or code to achieve what im trying to do here.
    Im using windows xp
Adobe Acrobat 6.0 ( I know it's old but its the only licence we own)
    Microsoft Outlook 2007
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Nick

Hi Thanks for your reply, please can you confirm which version of adobe acrobat I would need that will work with outlook 2007? Also could you please supply me with pointers and/or the code to make this work with the correct version.
    Many Thanks

  • Convert scanned PDF to PDF containing text?

Before my last laptop crashed, there was an amazing new (new to me, anyway) feature in Adobe that would attempt to convert a scanned copy of a PDF to a PDF containing text that could be highlighted. I was ecstatic! Whenever I opened a PDF, Adobe would prompt me with a message about trying to convert the PDF to one that could read and recognize text. I would click yes and after the conversion, I could highlight text. After my computer crashed and I re-installed Adobe, I no longer had or could find this feature. I cannot find any information on any type of plug-in or any information related to this feature actually. Please help! What is the plug-in or version of Adobe that will attempt to convert a scanned PDF to a PDF containing text that can be highlighted? Thanks

Adobe Reader doesn't have support for recognising text. Please try Adobe Acrobat XI for enjoying this feature.
Here's a link from where you can download Trial Version.

  • Converting scanned PDF to Excel

I have tried to convert a scanned PDF to Excel but find the columns and rows are all jumbled and do not reflect the original document.
I am using a Mac with MS Office 2011
    Any help appreciated.
    KJ

    Hi Keith,
I apologize for the trouble. I'd like to assist!
Was the original document excel prior to becoming a PDF? Unfortunately scans can be a challenge due to the converting not having actual 'text' to grasp onto.
If you would like you can send your PDF to me: [email protected] and I can take a look for you?
    Kind regards, Stacy

  • Script for scanning  and converting  cover page of PDF to JPEG

Hi we are building an application that would allow the upload of PDFs. We want to be able to scan and convert the cover page to jpeg for display purposes.
Does anyone know whether there is a ready made script to do this?

This would require a plug-in so that you could access the AVConversion methods. Unfortunately since Acrobat is not licensed for server use you would not be allowed to have this plug-in as part of an automated workflow on a server accepting uploads.

  • Converting scanned pdf's of hand-written items

When trying to convert a scanned pdf of an item that was originally hand-written, it converts as mostly symbols or garbled words. Is the program unable to convert items with hand-written text vs. type? Thank you.

    Hi Janice,
Yes - unfortunately the converter needs actual 'text' to grasp onto. Hand written items cannot not be 'read'.
I'm so sorry to not be of more assistance! Let me know if you have any other questions....
    Kind regards, Stacy

  • I am having a problem converting a scanned pdf file into Excel.

I am having a problem converting a scanned pdf file into Excel. I do not get the columns and rows to align, just a single column of everything. Any suggestions?

Export makes use of what is "in" a PDF.
Good export is the "silk purse" and, ya know, you canna make a silk purse from a sow's ear (which is what any scanned image in PDF is with regards to export).
The quality of export is dictated by the quality of the PDF. We are taking about the "inner essences" of the PDF (e.g., degree of compliance with the PDF Standard - ISO 32000-1).
So, what goes in goes out or "GIGO".
This has nothing to do with Acrobat or Acrobat's export process.
    A well-formed Tagged PDF (compliant to ISO 32000-1 & ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1) provides a PDF that proactively
    supports content export by Acrobat.
To get the good stuff from export you start with a well-formed Tagged PDF.
    Goodstuff In — Goodstuff Out
    or
    Garbage In — Garbage Out
    "GIGO"

how do a edit a scanned pdf?  In photoshop or acrobat 9 standard  If in photoshop, how do I copy, move and save a letter or word?

You can open a pdf in the PSE editor. When you open the pdf, a dialog will ask you  which page to chose (if it's a multipage pdf) and which parameters to use for the conversion to bitmap.
Since you are on a flattened bitmap (psd, tiff, png, jpeg...) all text will be converted and you won't be able to edit text (which is vector format).

  • Problem editing scanned PDFs

I'm working with a lot of scanned old books. Sometimes I download one from Google Books or another site and want to get rid of the first and last couple of empty pages. The weird thing that happens in Preview is that the new file after extracting the pages I need from the PDF is always HUGE. For example, a scanned PDF of some 160 pages is 6,5 MB. After extracting 150 pages from it, it's 356 MB (!!). The same happens with merging. Merged two PDFs of 15 MB each into one the other day, and the new file was 60 MB. I know that there must be a good reason for that, but it's totally beyond me. It's the same whether I print to PDF or drag and drop. I even tried the Super PDF Utility from the Mac App Store, which enables me to simply delete some pages from the file and the result was the same. So I guess it must be something about the scanned PDFs. But it happens with all scanned PDFs, no matter where I got them.
So my question is (assuming I'm not doing anything wrong), does anybody know about a not-too-pricey app that would split and merge scanned PDFs without going nuts with the size of the files?
Ok, that's one part of the question. The other is more general and relates to the first: I've been looking for a PDF editor app that would do the following:
split and merge as described above
make my scanned PDFs searchable (means adding an invisible OCR layer, but keeping the scanned appearence of the pages)
if possible, convert the raster or bitmap to vector (in my case, smoothing the fonts on low quality scans)
I should note that the books I work with are almost exclusively text only. I've been searching for an app like that but the feature descriptions are not always so precise. I hope this is not inappropriate for this forum. I'm willing to spend reasonable amont of money, but not Acrobat Pro money.
    Thanks a lot!

Find one the "Jones" can you select the text of the word "Jones"? If not you have a graphic the the PDF/A issue is a red herring.

  • Can the online PDF converter convert secure PDFs to Word format?

I have a PDF with copy protection set. Will the online PDF converter still convert it to Word format?

    Amplifying George's reply:
Will Adobe ExportPDF convert any type of PDF file?
Adobe ExportPDF will convert the vast majority of PDF files available today, including PDF files containing scanned documents.
There are a few types of PDF files that cannot be converted, however.
These include, but are not limited to,
    PDF Portfolios,
PDF files that require a password to open the document, or
PDF files that have permissions applied to prevent copying, or altering of the content.
ExportPDF is also not capable of converting hand-written documents to Microsoft Office, due to the non-standard nature of each individual's handwriting.

  • Scaling Scanned PDF

I'm a new and very novice Adobe Acrobat user and that's putting it mildly. I'm trying to scale a scanned PDF of sheet music.I optimize it, convert to text, then crop it. I've tried selecting all content Ctrl+A then scaling it but the text and images get out of alignment. I'm trying to scale the image to a larger size to fit on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper instead of printing smaller text/graphics. The scanned image is about 4 x 5. The musical notes are stored as images. I'm attaching the optimize and text conversion screen captures. I don't see a place to attach the PDF. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

You might check for a preflight script to see if there is a script for what you want (I don't remember one). I have AA 9 handy and you can use the edit object tool, there is a similar tool in XI. However, you can not go from 4X5 page to a larger one this way. A quick solution (not normally recommended) is to print to a new PDF with the size you specify and select expand to fit. This might be the quickest at this point, but you should explore other options. Unfortunately my newer Acrobat is not working properly on this machine.

    Hi jhpjr,
Are you converting a PDF to another format using ExportPDF, or converting a file to PDF? If you're using ExportPDF, the quality of the conversion depends on the quality of the original PDF file. Please see Will Adobe ExportPDF convert both text and form... | Adobe Community for an explanation of how ExportPDF converts files.
