Urgent- URL Masking

HI Everyone,
Does anyone knows ,how to do URL masking in Portal?
What are the settings to be done in Apache? I ve been searching on Net but cld not find anything. URL redirction works but I need "URL Masking".
Thx

Initially I was using relative paths but I have tried setting up a base href as well as hard coding the entrie IP address in the links and it still does not work.
URL masking works basically by using a frameset page that has two rows. One is set at 100% and the other is set at 0%. That makes the user only see the one address (the address of the frameset page) while the content continues to change. I have tried creating my own frameset page and that works just fine. But still, you see an ugly IP address in the address bar of the frameset.htm page and we don't want that.
It boils down to this - as soon as I apply the domain address from goDaddy (which uses the same frameset concept as I did on my own) it all stops working.

  • Go URL masking

    Hi,
Is it possible to mask the URL of a report called using Go URL? I have a link on a report that opens a new window and calls another report using Go URL, passing in values from the first report. I have a requirement to mask/scramble this URL so the user can't change the values being passed into the report. Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks

I agree with BIPuser. You didn't understand the format of a GoURL. P0 - the number of parameters, then triples must follow: P1 - operator, P2 - <folfer>.<field>, P3 - the value and so on. So your link - '<--a href="http://mgd-1560b7b78e:9704/analytics/saw.dll?Go&Path=/users/administrator/Sales Summaries/Central Region Sales by dollars/Central Region Districts Sales Summary&Action=Navigate&P0=1&P1=eq&P2=Products.Brand">'<--/a>' - incorrect. You didn't show a P3 parameter.
BIPuser wrote a correct link but with some mistakes:
    1) P0 must be 1
    2) I guess that all spaces in a link must replace by %20 or the link have to be in a quotes - " (or %22)
So the correct link, I guess
    '<--a href=http://mgd-1560b7b78e:9704/analytics/saw.dll?Go&Path=/users/administrator/Sales%20Summaries/Central%20Region%20Sales%20by%20dollars/Central%20Region%20Districts%20Sales%20Summary&Action=Navigate&P0=1&P1=eq&P2=Products.Brand&P3='||Products.Brand||'>'||Products.Brand||'<--/a>'
    Hope this helps.

The URL length of a PDF document in PCU Interface was small when we had the CRM 4.0 version, after the upgrade the URL length has increase immensely.
In our requirement the user used to copy the URL into the favorites and execute from there. But as the length of the URL has increased after the upgrade we are unable to copy the URL into the favorites.

  • Renaming URL...URL masking

Want to setup the portal so that whenever someone hits our site the url http://www.whatever.com/... displays instead of the http://servername.domain/...
Is this to be done in the apache server or is this a config in the actual portal??? Please advise if you can help thx. Basically we want to hide the servername.domain and replace with another URL...I know tomatoland.com and the main oracle site does it as well.
    HELP!!! thx

I think it can be done. You may need to open TAR to get the answer and you'll need to be patient. I think it's a combination of the httpd.conf file and running ssodatan or ssodatax.
We're attempting to accomplish a similar thing using a reverse proxy and the problem was referred to development.

  • Masking

    Hi,
Me again.. thanks to all your advice I've now successfully uploaded my website to .mac and redirected from my shorter url. On 1&1 redirecting was a snap but I haven't seen how to mask the url..I'm certain it said I could do it before I brought the domain name....So my question is how is url "masking" done?
    Thanks for your help.

Problem solved! I had a choice of frame redirect or Http redirect. All I need to do is change it to frame redirect!

  • Changing the URL address in browser toolbar

I develop websites and interactive content to be used on screen for film and tv. I usually don't upload sites to a server and just preview them locally on laptops and desktops by obviously opening the .home or .index page in whatever browser is installed.
My question is, is there anyway to change the URL that is displayed in the toolbar to another address ?
Generally the toolbar in the browser will display a path where the files are saved i.e. file:///Users/Documents/WEB%20DESIGN/ABRD/home.html - but I would like to display for example www.mysite.com
Most of the time I just hide the tool / address bar in Safari or Firefox, but it would be good to be able to show a real looking address other than a file path.
Hoping there is some way to achieve this in the html code that will work locally ? I've read about URL masking but that needs the sites to be uploaded to a server for it to work?
Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.

Depending on the local server you are using you could set up a virtual host:
This is a basic example using a Windows host with an Apache server:

  • Adobe Muse URL problem, text

    Hello !
I was wondering if you could help me.
I would like my domain name to stay as it is, without any extension like index, anchors (example: www.markoleber.si/index.html#cenik) and so on ... how can I hide everything that is going on the website so the name would be just the domain?
The second problem I have is with the text, in every browser, all the text I have shows up normally, but in chrome there is no text and only when i refresh the website it pops up like it should have the first time.
    Thank you for your answers

    Hello,
Looks like you're referring to URL masking. If that is so, this can be done using CNames. If the site is hosted in Business catalyst, you can create cnames in the site settings -> site domains section of your site.
About the text issue, check if the below posts are related:

  • Domain name and  session

    Hi ,
We have deployed our application on tomcat server built on struts framework.
We have also set the domain name and are redirecting the domain name to Static Ip
where our application is deployed with URL Masking option enabled.
Everything is working fine in Firefox. But in IE6 and IE7 we are facing issues related to sessions.
    Example:
it works when we access directly
    http://156.78.78.89:8000/myapp/login.do?method=display
when i redirect this with a domain name(with URL masking enabled) like
         http://www.mydomain.com It does not work.
I am not able to login into application(using sessions of this) or use shopping cart(using cookies)
Cookies are getting disabled and there is no session maintainance.
Is it problem with struts config or tomcat server?
I am unable to take my application live because of this issue.
Please help me to solve. Thank you for your time and consideration

I don't use cookies to set the session. I only use cfcookie for kill the session on the application.cfc when the user sign out.

  • Visitors can't subscribe to my iWeb website blog. All ideas are welcome.

Hello, good people. OK. I've figured out the PDF issue. Thanks. Visitors to my iWeb website, nancysolomon.net, cannot subscribe to my blog. It's not that what I have to say is so important, but I would like to offer that option. Because they can't subscribe, I've removed the button for now. I have to get this puppy launched. My target is this Tuesday. I can add the subscribe button later -- if I can ever get it to work. When people try to subscribe, they are sent to my home page. I looked up the issue in Help, but I can't understand the page. I'm going to the Apple store AGAIN tomorrow -- I have one other tweak I need help with. As lovely as they are there, they were unable to help me with the RSS subscription issue last week. I publish to MobileMe, but it's forwarded to or by register.com. One of the Apple guys told me to have register.com remove the URL mask, but that didn't help. In fact, it created a different problem. The mask is back on. It may be that people can't subscribe to my blog. I can live with that. However, your observations and advice are appreciated.

Well, the commas and spaces are not meant to be taken literally, but are meant to represent what you might find on your host's website under the DNS settings (Domain Name System).  Every host is different so the way in which you set up the CNAME forwarding will also be different, but it is just meant to be an example.
When you log into MobileMe and enter your domain name under the Personal Domain Name settings, there is an explanation there about how to set up CNAME forwarding.
CNAME simply stands for Canonical Name Records and is an alias.  Alias records create an association between another domain or sub domain, so when you set up a CNAME record at your host, then you are creating an association between your domain name and the name of your iWeb site which has been published to MobileMe.  Hence, why you need to enter web.me.com to create the association between the two names - your domain name and web.me.com.
Every domain host is different so you need to go to yours and check out the DNS settings to see what you need to do to set it up.
In the long run, this should be better than masked web forwarding.

  • Browser title

Hi. Am quite a beginner and self taught I'm afraid.
I have used a Dreamweaver 8 template and the page title is
not appearing in the browser window. Instead it gives the address
where the files are stored with my internet provider.
When the home page is first displayed the URL masking set up
from the domain name provider works. After that, for each page
navigated to, it reverts to the web hosting file names.
I have changed the title name for each page but this makes no
difference. I am wondering if there was a code pre-written into the
template that I used as I have not had this problem with pages that
I have created from new before although I have used framesets
previously but not on this occasion.
I am very ignorant re static pages versus dynamic content but
prepared to learn if this is where the problem lies.
    Any advise appreciated.

Your reference to URL masking suggests that either your host
    or your
registrar forwards one domain to another via a hidden frame.
    If that's the
case, your carefully written page titles will not show up.
Additionally, such a configuration will hurt you in the
    search engines, as
    well, if that's a concern.

  • Personal Domain Questions

I'm sure this has been answered but I can't find the answer with search...
    1. After setting up a personal domain with iWeb is it really publishing the site to your domain requiring you to have a an additional site host? Or is it just interfacing with the domain control to set up forwarding?
    2. I've looked at buying a domain from the Yahoo Small Business site. It looks very cheap, does anyone know of any problems with using Yahoo?
    3. Do Yahoo Domains allow for masking of the .Mac web addresses?
    4. Does anyone have any suggestions for were else to get a Domain name and/or hosting for personal use that doesn't break the bank?
    Thanks, Jason

"Thanks a million for sharing your knowledge! "
Let it be known that I've not technically DONE any of this yet. I'm currently building my second iWeb site, and have not yet activated the personal domain service. Instead of sharing my knowledge, it's more accurate to say I'm sharing my speculations and related anecdotal experiences.
    Okay, disclaimers aside...
Jason- how are the URLs of the individual pages showing up in the address bar when you surf to your site? Do you get 1) "www.mydomain.com" for all pages (this is called URL Masking, I believe), 2) "www.mydomain.com/mysitename" for all pages, 3) "www.mydomain.com/blog.htm" where each page is named accordingly, or 4) "www.mydomain.com/mysitename/blog.htm" which seems almost as unsightly as the original "homepage.mac.com" version of things.
mitsopa- It looks like you're trying to do what I'm after... You've paid for the domain name at the registrar (one company paid). Any good registrar should be able to handle the DNS, CNAME and MX records you need to change to do this. I would NOT pay the registrar for hosting, unless they charge an additional fee to setup and maintain your DNS records for the domain. -- Next, you've paid Apple for a .Mac user account (2 companies paid). I think this is all the paying that needs to be done. Basically, .Mac has or will become your web host, but NOT your eMail host. If you're happy with [email protected] for your eMail address, you're done. If you need [email protected] type eMail addresses, then you have 3 options: a) setup your own eMail server (a Mini with OS X.4 Server is running my eMail for 6 domains currently...) b) Pay another "hosting company" for eMail hosting - most hosting companies sell you web and eMail hosting as a package. Since you're already paying for web hosting at .Mac, this seems like a waste.) c) Find a free eMail service that will, in effect, host your eMail... I'm hearing good things about Google Apps and the eMail service they provide.
Maria- My first intuition is that it's a DNS propagation issue, and a day's wait will make the problem disappear. I have ISPs up here in Alaska that have taken up to 7 days to get the new IPs and cnames up for their users to access when have moved or setup servers in the past. If that's NOT it, start checking in iWeb as far as where you are trying to publish to. I know in this crazy OS X Mac world, you can publish a website at www.mydomain.com, mac.com/myusername, homepage.mac.com/~myusername, as well as server.ip.address.or.domainname and server.ip.address.or.domainname/~username if you've fired up Apache in your local machine. There's also some silliness about Public folders on Macs and publishing websites to them.... it goes on and on. Basically you can "publish" a website to any directory on any computer that's shared, visible to the world, and has a webserver (Apache) running...
MARIONRR- search the iWeb forum for creating or managing or publishing multiple sites using iWeb. I've not tried yet, but from what I read, it's quite difficult to get iWeb to do multiple separate sites. There's an option of multiple .Mac accounts, but I assume you don't want to go there. Also, I don't know how the .Mac servers are set up, but I would imagine they're pulling off this personal domain name service with some sort of symbolic link (alias) that simply points www.mydomain.com to your pages published with dot Mac. What this means (if I'm correct) is that the answer to your question is "no" since you can't publish two different sites to the same directory.... the "index.htm" page for one site will over-write the "index.htm" for the other...
Sorry to ramble. It's been a long day of snow-shoveling here and I reckon I've only got time for this one post tonight...
