and then I find the table became more than 6G
I don't know where is the space added.
you know updating this table failed. No new info was added to the table.

Hi,
First you have to know that any filesystem will take some storage space in order to work so there's few MBytes lost in creating/formatting a drive.
Plus Apple provide the macbook with OS X (which takes several GBytes) and many third party apps (which takes few other GBytes).
If you regulary go on the internet -, be sure to erase your cookies/tempFiles/cache (more MBytes wasted) and don't keep several instances of the same file for example if you recieved an attachment to a mail and you saved the attachment then the instance in the mail is redondant and useless ....
Just to say that it seems to be a normal situation.

  • URGENT : How to add spaces in the outbound file

    Hi Gurus,
I am writing data from SAP to a Unix file via an ABAP program.
The file has one record with 4000 characters with 2000 spaces in between the datas.
Is there any command to add these spaces ? Or I have to go through a loop to add them ? I cannot leave them and assume that they will be spaces by default,as this is causing some error in Unix side.
    Please help,this is urgent.
    Regards,

  • Ongoing loss of space on internal HD

27 inch late 2009 iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1TB internal HD running OSX 10.9.2
I've noticed a continuing rapid loss of internal HD space, in the last three months I've gone from over 300GB of free space to 230GB.  I've not been adding any files of any size (video files etc).
Yesterday, my TimeMachine completed a scheduled backup at 17:44 and I put the compter to sleep at 18:14.  All I was doing in the remaining 30 mins since the last backup was complete was scriptwriting (using a scriptwriting program called Movie Magic Screenwriter 6).  The entire file for this script is 271 KB.
This morning, within minutes of me waking up my iMac, TimeMachine started to backup 2831 files constituting a total of 145.1MB of data.
How is this even possible???  How did so many files get generated when my iMac was asleep and is this why I've been steadily losing free space on my internal HD when I'm so careful as to not clutter it up with large files?

Timemachine has just started it's second backup of the day and is now backing up 60336 files, 3.19 GB of data!
    HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE???
I've not created any new files at all in the last hour since the last backup...
    What is going on here?

  • Urgent Need for Freeing space on time machine

unable to free space on time machine for backups. Unable to see option to delete various backups by right clicking on the file name in the list on the right side of the screen. I clicked on the "gear icon" on the actual picture of the backup in Time Machine and selected "delete" for about a year's worth of backups. Those no longer show up in the list on the right side of the Time Machine screen, but it still indicates that I have only 30 GB available on the disk. [I have only 9GB left on my Macbook 5,1 and I am wanting to upgrade the hard drive and RAM, but I cannot back up my Macbook before upgrading the HD]. If anyone can help with this I will greatly appreciate it.

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
Normally there's no reason to manually delete backups. When it runs out of room, Time Machine will do that automatically.
When Time Machine backups are done over a network, they're placed in a rather odd container called a +sparse bundle disk image.+ It grows in size when things are added, but it doesn't shrink automatically when things are deleted.
But you can "compact" it manually, if you really want, to recover the space. See the pink box in #12 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Lossing Trailling Space

When I run a query report from the database the result returns a value(a key)which contains a trailling space at the end of the value.
When I look at the HTML produced the space is missing thus when the value is used to query the database no results are returned as the value is incorrect (missing trailling space)
Could someone help me out on how to get the correct value to pass to the database.
    Thanks

re your first issue, my test case works fine. i have a report based on a query like this...
select replace ('string ',' ','%20') str, 'dummy' col2 from dual
...and i've set my column link up on the column attributes page as this...
    f?p=&APP_ID.:3:#APP_SESSION#::::P3_JOB:#STR#
...and when i check the length(:P3_JOB) from page 2, i see that it's correctly 7. are you doing something differently, by any chance?
re your second issue, you'd have to replace each of your spaces with  an ampersand followed by nbsp; to retain them if you're displaying them values in html. otherwise they'll just shorten down to a single space. if you check the length of the item in session state, i bet you'll find it has the correct number of spaces.

  • Weird thing with spaces...help

I was trying to eliminate some of the spaces that I had as an option because I often got lost. I was at 4x4 and I was eliminating the program down to a 2x2 format. As I did this I neglected to realize that I had made system preferences locked to one of the spaces that I deleted. Now I can't open System Preferences, leading me to my problem:
I can't open system preferences to change my spaces options, among other options. Without being able to get to that I can't change my spaces preferences to change that setting.
    Any ideas?
    -Spen

    Do this:
-Create a new folder on your Desktop
    -close all applications
    -move (homefolder)/Library/Preferences/ to /Desktop/NewFolder, log in/out
if this solved your problem, do this:
-move /Desktop/NewFolder/ to (homefolder)/Library/Preferences/ and choose "Do not replace", log in/out

  • [Solved] Weird harddrive remaining space issue

Edit: Thanks for the advice; looks like the default number is 5% reserved for the root user (a little under 30GB in my case). I guess it pays to read up on a FS before you switch to it.
I just copied the data from one partition over to another and I get the following excerpt `df -h` output.
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/sda4 556G 540G 0 100% /home
I'm not sure about this, but shouldn't I have ~26G available? Is there some kind of reserved space or perhaps it isn't counting something? I'm running an EXT4 filesystem which was copied using `cp -rfv --preserve=all` from a JFS source drive.

Nothing Arch-specific to discuss, really. This is default ext{2,3,4} behaviour.
    Man mkfs.ext4
Read up on reserved space for the root user.

  • Weird missing disk space

So I've been tooling right along with my macbook for the last 2 weeks and it wasn't until tonight that I start questioning my available hard drive space. I was so used to only have 9gb or so on my Ti powerbook I didn't think about only having 14gb free on the macbook. Then I realized, hey I have a 100gb hard drive now, not a 60gb, and my music isn't even on the macbook. Doing a get info on the 5 folders in Macintosh HD told me I was missing about 45gb of hard drive space. A friend had me use Terminal and look at tmp/vm and there was 24.5gb in sleep and a lesser amount in swap files. I restarted and all but one swapfile disappeared but the sleep file was still there. Another friend suggested doing a du -h -d1. No news there. But then the first friend hit on it and had me do a sudo du -h -d1. There it was, 29gb in trash.
What happened was I used Migration Assistant when I first got this MacBook to transfer files from my powerbook. Sometime during the transfer, one of my lovely cats managed to ull the power cord out of the powerbook, it eventually lost power, went to sleep, and migration assistant failed. Migration Assistant could not be restarted.
I happily, or not so with which ever cat was responsible, just manually moved my files from the powerbook to the macbook. BUT, I had to create a new user name from the one I had used during Migration Assistant. The original user name was on the macbook, but get info showed no files space used! So I didn't worry about it.
Sudo allowed me to see the files that had been placed in the trash under the original user created by Migration Assistant. Logging in as root would have accomplished the same thing but I'm extremely hesitant about ever doing that and really don't think I ever have. Sudo is a different story. Sudo give you about 5 minutes of super power that allowed me to empty the trash via Finder.
This was one of those cases where a casual user would get lost. Disc Utility, etc would not have found this. Just thought I'd put it out here as there are some folks who hang around a lot who are not casual users and may remember this should anyone else have a similar problem.

Try disabling RR. That might work. You might want to enable it again later.

  • URGENT HELP ON white space in jsp response

I have written a jsp and printing a String at the end of jsp.Only one out.print() statement is used in the whole jsp page but the output(when we use view source) comes with lot of white space(new line characters) before the string. Actually I want only string in the response nothing else(no html code,no white space). As this string to be send as sms to mobile.
    pseudo code
    <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/plain" %>
    <%
    String text="";
    do processing
    out.println(text);
    %>
When I see OUTPUT using view source The output is Loke this with lots of white Spaces
    String output
    </body>
    </html>
these html tags and spces are not desirable.
    Please provide the solution .
    thanks in advance.

I believe the white space is due to empty println statements created by jspc - jasper
you can get rid of the spaces by setting the trimSpaces parameter to true in your web.xml
It will be more efficient than a filter also text that is marked as <pre> or that has
style="white-space: pre" will not be affected.

  • Weird loss of HDD on MS-6528

When running with three HDD's and a CDRW drive, the system sporratically "loses" a drive. I tried running three IBM Deskstar disks, 120, 40, and 20 GB, and some other configurations with the same results, moving the disks around in all permutations and switching cables. Removing anyone disk will solve the problem, but now I'm all out of diskspace running only two disks...
Is this a known phenomena? Is there a cure or something to try?

Ok, the system has been running with heavy load for a couple of days now without problems, so I guess the problem is sorted.
The solution was to re-arrange the IDE-cables and to slow down one disk from ATA100 to ATA66 (the other two disks are ATA66, so I figured something weird might be happening in the mix if one differs).
It's not the best solution to lose performance on the most active disk, but better than a misbehaving system.
I'll get some shorter cables (the ones I have now are 80 cm) and better quality (if available, I think the ones I have are top of the line). If this fails to solve the issue, then the problem is definately in the mix of using two ATA66 and one ATA100 drive in the same system.

  • HDD Loss of Space

I have a 500 GB PS4 which for some bizare reason has started reporting a disk size of 61.07GB I can't find any similar issues being reported. Any idea what could be causing this?  With everything on there the total used space should be well under 100GB but basically I've 'lost' the rest and can't install anything else now as the PS4 thinks I only have 9GB left?

  • Why is there a weird white border (space) on bottom

I have tried to print a photo on 4x6 paper as a borderless print.  It shows up as a borderless in preview but when it prints there is a 1 cm white space at the bottom.  Am using an HP Deskjet F4140. Any ideas?? Thank you.

  • Weird "out of space" pop-up error?

I am getting this strange "out of space" pop up error that keeps popping up on my Mac. It says I am currently over my xxx GB limit and asks me to upgrade my account. This does not lead to anywhere, and I don't know where it is coming from. It allows me two options "Dismiss" or "Upgrade Today" either option does nothing, but it keeps popping up. What is this? I do have a screenshot of this error message if that helps.  This is on a MacBook Pro with 10.8

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; echo; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; echo; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -ef
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; echo; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -ef
    Step 4
    ls -A /e*/{cr,la,mach}* {,/}Lib*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -ef
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of login items' | open -ef
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Loss of space after reorg of compressed index

    Hi Oracle experts,
In 2008 we compressed indexes of ECC system as per sap note 1109743 and
    obtained high compression ratio.
Now we have upgraded to oracle 11.2.0.2 and BRTOOLS 7.20 (10).
While using brtools to do table reorg/compression as per note 1431296
    indexes loose compression factor.
                                                                  before                     after        compression
    GLFUNCA           PSAPGLFUNCA       41,574,400             11,468,800 enabled
    GLFUNCA~0       PSAPSTABI             699,712                    5,555,648 enabled
    GLFUNCA~1       PSAPSTABI             263,872                     2,112,384 enabled
    GLFUNCA~2       PSAPSTABI             446,528                     3,531,072 enabled
    GLFUNCA~3       PSAPSTABI          1,051,904                      5,047,872 enabled
I have tried uncompressing and compressing indexes again but cannot compress to
same factor, results are same using brtools or oracle command.
I have tested on coy of system where table GLFUNCA is uncompressed and indexes compressed.
reorg of indexes result in same bad  compression factor.
key used for compression is same.
any  advise, how to regain index compression factor  or anyone having similar experirence.

    Hello Daljit,
First time I heard about this kind of behavior. I already faced index with the same size after compress, but it happened because the number of colunm was wrong defined.
    My suggestion:
    1.Uncompress one index (rebuild without compress);
    2.Identify number of column that should be compress;
    3.Rebuild with compress nologging;
    4.Active logging

  • URGENT - Data loss and query re-execution

Is there a way to re-execute a VO and not lose data still not persisted to DB?
Or can I select and store rows not yet committed and, later, put it back on a VO instance, in a simple way?
This is needed to develop a wizard-type application, that persists data only at the end. The user must do a random number of searches and inserts on several tables, so I cannot see a way to insert row, requery data when needed and still mantain control. This is so easy with Hibernate, can't it be done with OAF?
Commit data before last step of operation is out of question.
    Thanks for attention,
    Elner Ribeiro.

Thanks so much for the response.
My VO is an EO basedVO, indeed. I don't need to mantain a specific current point in VO, but when I re-query it (VO) I'm losing all data not saved.
Is there anything wrong with my approach?
