URI to a track within a particular playlist?

I can get the URI for a track, no problem.I can get the URI for a playlist, no problem.But I can't in the general case figure out how to get the URI for a track that's in the context of a particular playlist. I'd like to be able to start my player at a particular place within a playlist (say, start at track number 3 instead of the first track), or to start the web player this way. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks,Chris P.S. Using the "in context" bit in AppleScript, I can get Spotify to play a particular track within a particular playlist. This is cool, and it works. However, I can't for the life of me figure out how to do that with a URI in the general case.

Unfortunately you can't at the moment. Since playlists are basically just a collection of links to individual songs, when you copy a link to a song, it's linked to that individual song.

Playing tracks within a playlist in random order

I have many tracks in my iTunes, but very little of the music is entire albums, most of it is odd tracks from albums, downloaded tracks, and bits of radio recordings over the years. There are also a number of complete talking books on there.
This is all organised in 20+ playlists and works well, but what I would like is it to be able to play the tracks within one or more playlists in random sequence, so I don’t always get the tracks in the same order.
I have looked up “shuffle” but despite reading the help files several times, I can make little sense of it, and there is a thread here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3922734&#3922734 that starts to answer it, but it suggests that (if I have read it correctly) that the shuffling is turned on in the iPod rather than in iTunes. I have a nano and the “Shuffle” option only has three options, Songs Albums, and Off. No mention of playlists.
Is what I am trying to do possible? If so can I get some details on how please?

Importing; tracks are in different playlists

I have imported a CD where the track names were not available from the store. I have typed in all the information, - titles in Greek - but I find the tracks in separate/different playlists. Each playlist contains the tracks of each separate Greek alphabet letter, and then not in track number order either, but alphabetical. I have checked the information is the same (eg disk 2 of two) etc, and find no differences. It appears the first letter of the track name creates the new playlist. I would like them all in one playlist, in the order they were on the CD I imported from.

When I import several CDs and then merge those imported tracks into one iTunes album it often makes a mess. I merge the imported CDs by ctrl-clicking on the albums, going to get infos and editing the common data (composer, artwork, album title etc.). ITunes does make a single album out of the cds but sometimes it merges the tracks in a silly order. This happens especially if the CDs are not known to Gracenote. In that case iTunes will merge the CDs in the order Track 01, Track 01, Track 01, ... instead of all tracks from CD1, then all tracks from CD2 etc.. Since there is no Undo if the merge I have to re-import all CDs and start again. Very annoying.
I can set the sort field to sort by "import date/time" which brings the tracks in the order I want (i.e. first all tracks from the first imported CD, then the next one ...) but when I sync my iTunes with the iPhone all the tracks are again in the order Track 01, Track 01, etc. (i.e. the CDs are interleaved).
I do not want to build a separate Playlist but want a single iTunes album with all the CDs that belong to a particular set in correct order.
How can this be done, please ?

You can only add folders to the email account if it is an IMAP account. If you see an EDIT button at the top of the window when you are in the email account - where you can see your inbox, sent and trash folders - if there is an edit button at the top of that window - you can tap that and then an Add Mailbox option appears at the bottom of the window.
If you do not see that edit button, you do not have an IMAP account and you cannot add folders.

as opposed to just "the Library"?
There has got to be a reason for exporting and importing playlist .xml files.
Why is everyone telling me that iTunes is incapable of re-directing tracks to their corresponding playlists? It makes no sense to have a playlist backup if it cannot really be used!

Yes - nearly all my playlists are smart playlists based on the Grouping field, e.g.:
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
etc.
I use this method to manage the content of our family's four iPods, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their iPod. Because the grouping field is stored in file tags (for audio files anyway) playlist membership is automatically preserved when I delete from iTunes, reorganise & re-import.

Can no longer play individual tracks within a Podcast on iTunes 11

I have a good amount of podcasts that I subscribe to where there are tracks within the podcast. On my iPhone I can skip from track to track, and before upgrading to iTunes 11, I could do it in iTunes as well - basically would click the album artwork, and I could select track numbers from a drop down list. That drop down list doesn't exist anymore, and all I can do is fast forward, rewind, or skip to the next podcast episode.
Anyone have similar problems or a solution? Thanks in advance.

Why can I no longer move items WITHIN an existing playlist?

I asked the folllowing question on January 29th - and have received no responses. I cannot understand what has changed in iTunes that I cannot control my playlists. I have a particular playlist that I use regularly, but for some reason, I can't drag new songs that I just added (or even existing songs) to the top of the playlist, for example. Can someone please offer a solution? Thank you!
From January 29, 2012 - I just logged into iTunes on my MacBook Pro and my favority playlist changed the order of the songs (and I did nothing!). I did not click any columns to sort differently or anything along those lines. In addition, I added some songs and moved them from Recently Added to this Playlist, but they won't move (well, I can drag them to where I want them, but they don't stay there!). I have new songs that I want to put on my Nano (and other non-Apple device players), but I am afraid to sync. Help! Thanks.

To reorder a playlist it must first be sorted on the unlabeled column of numbers to the left that represents play order index.

How can I see tracks that are in playlists when viewing My Music?

I have hundreds of audio tracks in iTunes. My Music shows more files than I have in all my playlists. Is there a way I can view which tracks are in a playlist when viewing My Music without having to right click each one? It would take hours. All I want to know is which tracks I have yet to include in a playlist.

We really need a view option in My Music to see whether tracks are in a playlist or not.

You can make a smart playlist showing tracks that are not in any playlist.
You have to make a playist showing all the tracks that are in an existing playlist.
Then you make a second playlist showing all the tracks that are not in the first playlist.
You can make the first playlist with the rule:
Playlist is 'one of my playlsits'
repeated for every play list you have.
This is only feasible for a few playlists.
If you have a lot you can create a playlist folder: File>>New playlist folder.
Then you drag all your playlists into the folder.
Now you make a smart playlist with the rule:
Playlist is not 'the playlist folder'
This new playlist should have all tracks not already in a playlist.
After you have finished, you can get playlists out of the folder by dragging them to the left. It might not be a bad idea to make sure you understand how to do this before dragging everything into the folder.

Ipod stops after each track ends in a playlist?

I have a problem: Suddenly, my ipod stops after each track ends in a playlist. This happens with every playlist and every track, all of which worked fine until this week. All tracks' settings are "yes" on 1) part of a compilation; 2) remember playback position and; 3) skip when shuffling. I have not updated any software or added any new content to my ipod. I imagine that some setting has been switched on or off, but I am unable to identify which one. Please help as these are my audio books! Thanks!

How do I sort tracks within an album by name?

In the new iTunes 11 for Mac, is there any way to set the view to sort by albums (so you have that grid of album art; I have this figured out already), and then (this is the part I can't figure out yet) have the tracks within any given album be sorted by name when you click on the artwork? When I choose View-->View Options, I can set to sort by title which sorts the albums themselves by title (which I want), but then the second dropdown is deactivated.
I have a number of multi-disc albums, and I want to condense them into one album, but when I did that for one album I ended up with a ton of tracks in one album and I couldn't find what I wanted to play from the album because I couldn't get them sorted alphabetically (thus it took me too long to find the track)

it is not just date - it is time and date
I suspect that what you are seeing is a time difference between the cameras - check and I think you will find that they are sorted by time and date
If that is it it is easy to fix - make a smart album for each camera and adjust the photos for them so they are all together

Creating tracks within a recording

How do I create tracks within one long recording? My wife is a professional speaker and we are creating CD's of her tapes etc. How do I add invisible track marks so people listening to the CD's can advance to a specific place in the tape. I would like to place tracks at 5 minute intervals.

use an audio editor to split the one long track every 5 minutes or so, then save each "piece" as a seperate .wav file. then burn all the tracks to cd. you can use Audacity. tis free

1) I am in an Event Script (i.e. After Fileimport)
2) I would like write a script or create a logic, that retrieves base members of a particular tree within a particular ESSBASE dimension (target system is ESSBASE)
3) the result set of that retrievement (base member "ABC", base member "DEF", ... base member "XYZ") will be used for further logics
4) ideally: at the end a I am able to fill an VB dictionary or array with this result set
sounds easy, right?! :-)
