URL autofill

Help! I don't know the correct terminology but I will do my best to explain. When I am typing a web address in the URL bar and it gives me options for those letters that I've typed... I want to clear all of those out. You know if I type in www.cn (www.cnn.com will appear highlighted in blue) It's good to some extent but I've been to so many websites I just want to start a new. I tried to reset Safari, and empty the cache and I deleted all the cookies. But none of those got rid of all of these previous URL addresses. Also, some of these addresses are ones that I have bookmarked but much much more are ones that I have not. So how do I clear them out? Thanks for your help!!
ibook G4,   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Try clearing history and cache, then quit Safari. Go to your user Home --> Library --> Safari --> Bookmarks.htm and drag that to your Desktop. Restart Safari. You will have no URLs saved and no bookmarks. Quit Safari, go back to the Safari folder in your home library, drag the bookmarks back in then restart the application. I did this and it cleared all but 7 URLs. Why it left any, I don't know but at least the rest of them were wiped out.

  • [Possible] Major Privacy Issue in Safari 5 - URL Autofill

From what I read on the Apple site, the URL autofill compares what you type to your history. However even if you delete your history, the autofill still comes up with sites that you visited in the past. If I delete my history, where is this info coming from? Seems to me that this is a MAJOR security issue if you're not the only person using the computer.
EDIT: Im seeing all sorts of random URLs popping up in the URL window when I type random letters. Is the URL bar also being used as a web search? (And if so, which search engine does it use for this?) I was under the impression it was only searching your history.
At first I thought these random sites being suggested were sites I have visited in the past and forgotten about... in fact a lot of them seem like sites I would have visited.
Its just so odd how random the results seem. Not just front pages come up, but pages a few levels deep on any given website. Strange thing this is to me.

I'm hoping someone will figure out a way to disable the URL history suggestions. It's totally annoying. I'm used to typing in the first few letters of a bookmarked web page to jump to it quickly. Now if I type some letters, I'm inundated with suggestions from keywords in my history, while the actual URL I'm trying to get to is buried beneath a list of other pages that have nothing to do with the page I'm trying to visit. Totally frustrating. Maybe it's good for some, but a way to turn it off is a must.

  • Url autofill getting really annoying..way to full

I am about to bail on safari cuz i can't edit url autofill. It is getting way to full. I will settle for just turning it off at this point. I scanned the discussions and it seems like its a bug that has never been fixed. Autofill address book can be edited. Resetting Safari and history does nothing. Safari preferences does not affect the url history. Any workaround for this.

URL Autocomplete gets its data from the cache, history and bookmarks. Keep the history and cache reasonable cleared and go through your bookmarks and delete old or seldom used bookmarks.
A workaround when typing address in the address window is to either begin or end with a blank space - this will get rid of the alternatives.
As Eme, mentioned, send feedback using Report Bugs to Apple under the Safari menu.

  • How to enable url autofill in Firefox 16 for Android?

I have used about:config and turned browser.urlbar.autoFill to "true" but it still doesn't offer url suggestions. Other mobile browsers have this feature as standard.
    Device used: HTC One X
    Firefox 16.0 and 17.0

    Thank you.
Sorry to hear that. It s standard in default browser, chrome and others though.

  • MAKE URL AUTOFILL STOP!!!

When typing in a web-address, Safari adds text to the tail of what I've typed, so when I press enter it screws up my address. I have all of the autofill checkboxes disabled in the Preferences. How can I completely remove this annoying feature?
Example: While typing, 'http://mydomain.com/mybackpage', Safari adds text I don't want resulting in, 'http://mydomain.com/mybackpage/crudIdontwant.html'.
I'm aware that pressing delete will remove that bs but I shouldn't have to press delete to remove some crud that Safari inserts which happens a lot.

Darn, I thought I read somewhere it was possible to disable the feature entirely. I just found a few pages of other users moaning about autocomplete, and one suggestion has been locking the History.plist file. Apparently it won't allow Safari to save your history to the file.
Okay you can disable the History from Autocompleting, but I don't know of any way to prevent it from automcompleting from your booksmarks.
    (1) In Safari go to History>Clear History
    (2) Close Safari
    (3) Go to Home>Library>Safari
    (4) Get Info on the File History.plist
    a) Change Ownerships & Permissions to Read Only
    b) Check the locked tab on top
    c) Click on the little lock icon on the bottom
Safari stills remembers the history until you close Safari I wish I knew of a way to stop autocompleting from bookmarks Safari's autocompletion is its worst feature

  • Does anyone know where Safari might hide old security certificates?

In a vein similar to the questions of where Safari is getting the data for the url address autocomplete, does anyone know where Safari might hide an old security certificate? Apple Care could not help me, and the their final suggestion was to reinstall Safari.
Here is the problem: I access my work computer system through Citrix Client software, which as far as I am aware is emulating a key board to run internal applications and displaying on my screen the result. It seems as if I am inside the firewall, but really I am just looking in an open window (I am definitely not an IS person so computer savy people may be cringing at my simplistic view.) In any case, until this fall I used Safari just fine despite the fact that our IS group said that we had to use IE, and of course they do not support Macs so they will not help. Some upgrade led to the expiration of the security certificate that was stored in Keychain. And despite installing the most up to date Citrix Client software, erasing the certificate from Keychain, clearing the Safari history, cache, bookmarks, and even creating a new user, Safari keeps finding the old certificate and an error message appears that says the certificate is out of date. Our IS assures me that the old certificate is gone from wherever in the cyberworld they exist. That is further supported by the fact that I can in fact use IE just fine to access our system from the very same machine. I think the issue is similar to the ever-present url autofill information, and incidently, the autofill at Ask.com. I have noticed that clearing the history/cache/bookmarks and the cookies does not clear the Ask.com autofill with Safari.
Does anyone know where this information might live? Any ideas as to why creating a new user would not solve the problem?
Like others have noted, I would give up on Safari but for use with our Citrix server it provides much better window capabilities than IE. Unfortunately, Apple seems to be of no help since the people who have assisted me on more than one occasion have gone to the Safari product specialists while I have enjoyed their hold-music to no avail.
iMac (intel) iMac (PPC) iBook (PPC)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

does anyone know what the difference is
The system battery runs the whole computer when it isn't plugged in. The backup battery only preserves PRAM.
before i risk wiping my 'ram disk' whatever that is
If you don't know what a RAM disk is, you don't have one to wipe. This feature enables some of the computer's RAM to be used as if it was a storage drive; it's part of Mac OS 9, but not Mac OS X without using third-party software.

  • Isync and TREO 700p for VERIZON

I just purchased a TREO 700p and iSync is saying that this is not a supported device. It says that SPRINT'S Treo 700p is supported, but not VERIZON'S. That's absurd.
Does anyone know if I can make the syncs successful with my Verizon TREO 700p?
If not, does nayone know when the VERIZON Treo 700p WILL be supported?
    THANK YOU.

here is the error i get from palm software. i uninstalled missing sync.

  • HT5429 how do I clear previously saved address searches in maps

I want to clean up my Maps app and cant seem to figure out how to clear previously saved addresses. I hit clear but they are still there.

    Thanks for your reply!
Yes! I already turn off the autofill. But the list still come out when I typing in the search bar.

    Hi Kenny,
Re: Turning off autofill in the
    address field...
The alternative to that is to clear your history and
clean up your bookmarks to remove any entries that
you no longer use (Safari uses both to check for url
    autofill items).

  • Unable to Find in TX

If I enter 3 letters or more in the Find funtion in my TX, it immediately does a soft reset. If I enter 2 letters, for example "Jo" for "Joe", it will show entries for "Jo". When I tap on Find More, I continue to get results until after a few more taps of Find More it crashes.
If I do a hard reset, the problem goes away. I can use the function with no problem---until I do a HotSync to restore my contacts, third party programs, etc. then the problem returns.
I'd like to consider deleting third party files that I don't need as a way to try to determine what's causing the problem, but I have no idea how to determine what can be deleted. Is there a list of Palm-specific files that I should see when I tap on Delete from the All Applications page? If I had such a list, I could then delete everything else...right?? But then, how would I avoid reinstalling those files when I do a HotSync?
     Please help.

  • Can't sync Outlook Calendar

My e-mail works just fine, but my calendar doesn't sync. When I go to the menu in the e-mail application on my phone, and go to preferences, under AutoSync, the only option I have is "Sync: Mail" and I think it's supposed to have checkboxes for contacts and calendar as well.  But, mine doesn't give me the choices.  When I connect my Centro to my computer, it performs a HotSync, but the only thing that shows up on my PalmDesktop is photos off of my phone.  I've checked the settings and it should be syncing my calendar and memos and whatnot from Outlook!  Help?
    Thanks
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

This was the sync that didn't sync my calendar. I did this one after removing my PalmDesktop from my computer and rebooting, then re-installing. My calendar still wouldn't sync so I posted on this forum. Then I went to bed, re-synced this morning and it worked. The working sync is shown at the very bottom of the page. Any idea why it suddenly worked?

    Post relates to: Palm TX

I think you got your reply mixed up with what I posted.
I have Windows XP which I enclosed a portion of the HotSync information to show that some has gone through, but I still have error messages.
The primary problem is that there is HotSync Starts using the  Local USB.
There is "No User Name Listed" on the computer for the HotSync.
Hot Sync does show progress on the computer then it goes out.
On the Palm TX HotSync icons are greyed out.
I push on the square center button on the unit, 2 of the HotSync icons then get color, and "Identifying User" came on the screen.
Then there are three icons with color and the statement "Cleaning up please wait"
    Palm Driver File Version 6.0.1
    Palm TX HotSync Version 5.4.8P
Does anyone else know what is going on and how I can fix the HotSync problem?
I need help fast for I am going to go on a trip next month and it has my address info on it for merging.

    Hello!
Just have to ask but which version of Palm Desktop did you actually install on these machines?  When your getting a batch of OLERRS in all for PIM conduits usually means they could not access the Outlook profile.  I trust that opening Outlook does not yield errors right?
