  • JDBC URL for Two Oracle Nodes

    Hi All,
I have two DB nodes which are running independently (Mean no RAC), I want to configure JDBC URL for these nodes that if one node goes down my application automatically connected to second one.
Both nodes have different HOST and SID.
    Regards,
    imran

    Hi jwenting,
I tried following URL in PL/SQL developer and my fail over is working fine with separate nodes, Only thing i did was i keep SID of both nodes with same name.
    ERS=(DESCRIPTION=(FAILOVER=on)(LOAD_BALANCE=off)(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=172.21.5.130)(PORT=1521))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=172.21.5.133)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=orcl)))
But strange when i connected this through JDBC URL like following it gives me error of invalid URL
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(FAILOVER=on)(LOAD_BALANCE=off)(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=172.21.5.130)(PORT=1521))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=172.21.5.133)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=orcl)))

  • JDBC URL for Two Oracle Nodes with different SID

    Hi All,
I have two DB nodes which are running independently (Mean no RAC), I want to configure JDBC URL for these nodes that if one node goes down my application automatically connected to second one.
Both nodes have different HOST and SID but the tables i am going to access have same structure. we are using this DB for some logging purpose that's why we didn't choose RAC option.
    Regards,
    imran

    For RAC database, I used:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(LOAD_BALANCE=on)(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=hostname)(PORT=port))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=hostname)(PORT=port)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=servicename)))
For non RAC database you could ommit LOAD_BALANCE setting, and set correct hostname & port for both nodes. We connected using common service name. If your databases have different service names, then the SID will have to be part of ADDRESS somehow - maybe (SID=sid).
I have to mention though that unless the main reason behind your decision was lower cost without RAC (and you don't need to store any information apart from logs), it was a wrong decision. If you decide to store any additional information in the database for whatever reason (new requirements), you are in trouble.

  • How to use one URL for several Oracle AS?

    Hi folks,
how do I use one URL to access several application servers (i.e. for different applications).
    Example:
    We have one URL:
    www.test.com
In our DMZ, wie have three application servers and one web cache:
    test1.intranet.com:7777
    test2.intranet.com:7777
    test3.intranet.com:7777
    webcache.intranet.com:8000
One application server is no problem. In Web Cache, i just map site www.test.com:443 to AS test1.intranet.com:7777.
But what is the correct setting, to access all three Oracle AS over one URL? I tried URL PATH Prefix. Then i am able to access all three Oracle AS, but the application server does not know the Path.
    Example for mapping:
    www.test.com:443/server2 -> test2.intranet.com:7777
When I access www.test.com:443/server2, I get redirected to the correct AS (test2.intranet.com:7777), but the Oracle AS does not know the path /server2.
How do I have to configure the Oracle AS?
Thanks in advance and best regards.

I setted up a proxy and at first glance,
it works fine. The problem are internal links. Some links redirect to the
machine name, which is of course not accessible from outside our dmz.
    My httpd.conf entries:
    ProxyPass /test1infra/ http://test1.intranet.com:7777/
    ProxyPassReverse /test1infra/ http://test1.intranet.com:7777/
    ProxyPass /test1mid/ http://test1.intranet.com:7778/
    ProxyPassReverse /test1mid/ http://test1.intranet.com:7778/
When I now access (for example) www.test.com/test1infra/pls/orasso I get
redirected to www.test.com/pls/orasso, which is another Oracle AS!
How can I prevent my OracleAS doing this? It has to "know" that all its internal urls need a url path prefix.

  • Where is the Url for free Adobe Acrobat X Pro that will allow me to create PDF/X ‑1a requires all fonts to be embedded,

Is there a free copy of Adobe Acrobat Pro that will allow me to create PDF/x‑1a with all requires all fonts to be embedded. I already have Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.

The Standard joboptions that are used by default don't embed most so-called system fonts.
Change your joboptions to High Quality Print and you will get Arial embedded plus much higher quality imagery.
BTW, PDF/X is great (I'm actually Chair of the PDF/X standards committee), but PDF/X-1a created by using the PDF/X-1a joboptions ruins output by flattening transparency, yielding stitching and other image artifacts that you can see both on screen and print if your document has any transparency (including drop shadows, reflections, and even clipped images). It also forces all content to CMYK. PDF/X-4 is a better choice.
What are you creating the PDF file from? Microsoft Office documents? Adobe layout programs such as InDesign?
Let us know and we can give you a more focused recommendation as to what to do.

  • Oracle Linux 6.3: Very Long Delay During Installation

After booting the system using the Free Oracle Linux CD-ROM (Ver. 6.3) and selecting the GRUB option "Install or upgrade existing installation" the terminal goes blank for a very long time. On terminal widow #4, however, the message:
ERR kernel:Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0
...scrolls by for what seems like a very long time (4-5 minutes) before being replaced with another message:
WARNING NetworkManager: <warn> error requesting auth for org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.enable-disable-network: (26) Remote Exception invoking org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Authority.CheckAuthorization() on /org/freedesktop/PolicyKit1/Authority at name org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ExecFailed: Cannot launch daemon, file not found or permissions invalid
...and then, after choosing not to verify the installation media, installation finally begins.
How can I speed this process up?

The I/O error on fd0 probably means you do not have a floppy disk attached. I suggest to check the boot device list and their priority in your system's BIOS settings.

  • Physical processors limit in Oracle Linux 5

    Hello:
the Linux administrator told me that Oracle Linux 5 allows up to 4 physical processors.
I've searched the Internet. I've found in http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/linux/025994.htm that the allowed number of CPUs for a Oracle Linux 5 OS is unlimited. I've send this link to the Linux Admin, but his answer was that this specification refers only to logical CPUs, and that the limitation has to do with the number of physical processors.
I've searched again the Internet, but I could not find anything about this restriction. Then, my question is: is threre any limit on the number of physical processors on Oracle Linux 5 OS? Where is it documented?
    Thank you and best regards,

I've opened a SR (3-2552873331) to the Oracle Support. Here is their answer:
    Hi Marco,
Yes you can download and install the Oracle Linux on the mentioned Box. The CPU limitations Vs price will come in picture only while registering for support.
    Thank you for your answer.
Does it mean that threre is no limit on CPU sockets other than the imposed by the RedHat kernel (64/255 logical CPUs for Redhat 5)? Is it possible to download Oracle Linux 5 from the network and install it on a i.e. 8 dualcore box, setting the support license aside (no support is needed)? Do I need to change and recompile the linux kernel of the Oracle Linux 5 to allow the installation on a 8 dualcore box?
    Regards,
    Marco Antonio Serrano
Oracle Linux and Oracle VM is free to download and use on any platform configuration for any purpose. Oracle charges only for support.
Please visit the product pricing page at http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/pricing/price-lists/index.html for the complete details, but in essence, Oracle licenses   support based on the number of CPU sockets (chips) and not by cores (virtual processors). Premier support levels permit unlimited numbers of CPU sockets, otherwise only a maximum of 2 cores are allowed.
    + Sincerely, +

  • Installing Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.2 fails on Oracle Linux 5.6 and 6.0

    Hi all,
We are in the process of building our new enterprise environment and tried to install the following:
    Oracle Linux 6.0
    Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.2
    ASM
    OCFS2
    Oracle RDBMS 11.2.0.2
Installation of Grid Infrastructure failed on Oracle Linux 6.0 and 5.6 as well. Is it because it's not yet certified for these Oracle Linux versions? Where can we find compatibility matrixes or certification information to find out which versions do work together? Been trying to find them with no success.
    Thanks for any help!

    Dude wrote:
I have recently installed Oracle 11.2.0.2 including ASM, which also installs Grid infrastructure under Oracle Linux 5.6 (default UEK kernel) without any problems. I installed the oracle-validated package prior to the Oracle installation.OEL 5.6 and 11.2..02 Grid Infrastructure installation (for x86_64) failed in our case. Have opened a SR several weeks ago for it, but no resolution. We since reverted back to OEL 5.5 for building and running this specific RAC.
There's also errors in OEL 5.6's Infiniband s/w stack. The openibd service fails to apply errata correctly because the o/s command used has since changed command line parameters. My guess is that testing happened solely on new h/w where this errata did not have to be applied, thus were not tested. Also, this service failed to start the srp_daemon (is critical for making sure that the storage layer works each and every time and does not cause stale connections that lead to command rejections from the storage server after a reboot of a RAC node)
I not only had to fix the openibd service to correctly apply the errata, but also write a separate srpd service that dealt with starting up and shutting down the srp_daemon.
Not very impressed with OEL 5.6 at all and it will be unlikely that we'll use it. And it raises a lot of concern whether OEL 6 would be a robust enough o/s for running our RAC systems.

What is the hard disk size required to install Oracle Linux 5 in Dell Intel Server? Any information provided will be very much appreciated.

The answer will depend on your installed RAM. It could be the the size of your installed RAM plus 5 GB for the OS.
Since Oracle Linux is actually a clone of Red Hat, you can check the Red Hat documentation online. The following link should answer your questions:
    http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5/html/Installation_Guide/s2-diskpartrecommend-x86.html
or check the installation guide at: https://linux.oracle.com/documentation/
For other limits and min. requirements:
    http://www.redhat.com/rhel/compare/
A lot of info is also at http://linux.oracle.com
Since you are using DELL you might want to check for hardware compatibility at http://content.dell.com/us/en/enterprise/d/operating-systems/redhatalliance.aspx and verify your current firmware and install required drivers for RHEL/Oracle Linux if necessary.

  • There is still time to earn your Oracle Linux 6 OCP certification at a great discount.

Beta testing continues for the Oracle Linux 6 Advanced System Administration exam (1Z1-105) at the significantly discounted price of $50 USD. Passing this exam results in the Oracle Certified Professional, Oracle Linux 6 System Administrator certification.

    You do need to have
Oracle Certified Associate, Oracle Linux 5 and 6 System Administrator or
Oracle Linux Administrator Certified Associate (retired)
    as well of course!
but if necessary you can pass 1z0-100 after 1z1-105 and you will still be awarded OL6 OCP!

  • Oracle Linux hardware certification question

    Hello,
Our company is considering running the Oracle Retail Predictive Application Server and I've been tasked with determining the best OS/HW platforms to run it on. For the OS, I'd like to run Oracle Linux with the UEK. I would prefer that we run this on a VM (we're currently at vSphere4.1) but VMware doesn't appear in the HW Cert list (http://linux.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=117:1:4073041665385184:::::) at all. So barring a VM I'd like to run on a Cisco UCS B200 M2 Blade Server.
Since the hardware certification list referenced above indicates this HW has been certified on OL v5.7, but not any other releases I'm assuming no one has certified later releases on that same HW platform. If a HW platform is certified on a certain release will I be able to get Oracle support for later Oracle Linux releases on that same HW platform?
I really don't want to start out several revs behind on the OS.
Of course the latest RPAS install doc indicates the application is supported on OL v5.5, but I think the question of whether or not I can run it on later releases is probably for another forum. I've decided to start with the OS / HW questions first.
Thanks in advance for any insights!
    - Todd Wyman

    Hi Todd,
I believe your question is answered in the FAQ: http://linux.oracle.com/hcl_faq.html#_4
To which Oracle Linux and Oracle VM releases does a hardware certification apply?
An Oracle Linux or Oracle VM hardware certification applies to the posted releases and subsequent minor releases until a new hardware certification is posted. For example, a hardware certification posted for Oracle Linux 6.1 applies to Oracle Linux 6.2, Oracle Linux 6.3 and so forth until new hardware certification is posted. This rule only applies to minor releases, so a certification for Oracle Linux 6 does not apply to Oracle Linux 5 nor does a certification for Oracle Linux 5 automatically apply to Oracle Linux 6.

  • Any Free Simple Animator player for Oracle Linux?

    Guys,
I used to run "Xanim" on Solaris. And it worked great. Now I'm switching to Oracle / Linux And I'm looking for a simple player that I can install and run either .fli, .flc, Gif, .Mov, or any other small program in Linux. I'm basically want is the player only Where I can installer it. and run some movie animation purposely stressing the CPU's .
    -Thank You,

I have recently come across an interesting way to stress-test a CPU by using the command:
    yes > /dev/null

    $ yes >/dev/null &

Regarding video playback, I was wondering about Videolan VLC and it is even available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux :0 Just go to http://www.videolan.org. VLC can play pretty much every common movie format, and it think it is the most versatile video player. You can even use it to stream/boradcast video and connect to several devices, including firewire. I think it pretty much replaced mplayer, though it is still used, i.e. ffmpegX media encoder and converter.

  • Rapidwiz fails on database step for 12.1.1 on Oracle Linux 5.7

I am trying to install Oracle EBS 12.1.1 on Oracle Linux 5.7 64 bit platform.
The issue is that after I followed the requirements including set kernel parameters by using the oracle-validated RPM package, the install fails on database creation step.
    Below are logs:
    getConnectionUsingSID() -->
    JDBC URL: jdbc:oracle:thin:@ebsdb01:1526:VIS
Exception occurred: java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection

I checked network interfaces and can ping the hosts. Here is my network /etc/hosts file:

    112.2.2.20 ebsdb01.local.com ebsdb01
Any ideas how to solve this issue? I even used latest release of Rapid Install wizard and no luck.

    I run this way:
    perl rda.pl -T hcve

If you are running the one in (RDA 4 - Health Check / Validation Engine Guide [ID 250262.1]), then I believe it is only available for "Linux-x86 Platforms" (32-bit).
    2) I notice issue with DNS configuration:
    [root@ebsdb01 rda]# nslookup 122.2.2.2
    Server: 122.2.2.2
    Address: 122.2.2.22#5

    3)
So this leads me to my next question, when I use nslookup to search the domain on the DNS server for the host, it resolves successfully. BUT, when I run nslookup against the IP address
it cannot find it in DNS. Would this be the root cause of why my installation keeps failing? I have verified checksums and software is fine. I am still missing a couple RPMs but do not believe this is what causing the install to fail yet in light of the network connection errors that Rapidwiz keeps throwing at me.All network files/settings can be found in (Oracle E-Business Suite Installation and Upgrade Notes Release 12 (12.1.1) for Linux x86-64 [ID 761566.1]).
