URL icons

Hi
I have a large number of url's saved as bookmarks in folders on the bookmark bar. Yesterday, I noticed that when I selected one of these bookmarks it was displayed in the URL window with a blue circle instead of the icon for that bookmark. Indeed, all url's are now show in the URL window with a blue circle instead of an icon for that site. Before yesterday, URL's were always shown with the site icon, if it had one.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

Hi,
Did you reset Safari?
Or delete the Icons folder under /Users/YourUsername/Library/Safari/ ?
Both of those will have the effect of removing the icons. They will reappear as you browse to the sites once more.
Alternatively, did you download any Safari enhancer type application that can turn off the icons feature?

  • Menubar Iconfield loading url icon..?

    Hi.,
I am using flex menubar  iconField to loading dynamic url icons..
Any one hopefully help this problem..
    With Regards.,
    Ling's

    Hi,
I don't think the iconField will work for the purposes of loading images. The menubar expects a class IE ByteArray of image data since it instantiates it with the new operator.
You would need to create a new MenuBar.menuBarItemRenderer that knows how to load external image urls. This class needs to implement IMenuBarItemRenderer, you could also subclass MenuBarItem and override commitProperties() to create the Image and load it from the data's icon field.

  • I can no longer drag and drop my bookmarks or url icons

All of a sudden I can no longer drag and drop my bookmarks around the sidebar or drag url icons into the toolbar or sidebar. The problem seems to have coincided with the download of 3.6.14. The only other thing I did around that time was download Adobe Reader X (10.0.1).

YOu're not looking in the right palce. That's inside the iPhoto Application.
You need to look inside the iPhoto Library
    As I sid above:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there

    Hi!
It seems that you are looking to customize the icons in your desktops with the Favicons of an specific site (the small logos next to the URL as you call them).
I'm not sure if any add-on exists but by default it's not possible to do what you are looking for.
I hope it help, at least a little bit.

  • Create a Custom Icon to Replace the Standard URL Icon in Dock

I would like to change the "springy thing"/URL icon in my dock to a custom picture showing the logo for the webpage for that particular "springy thing." Is it possible to change the spring to a custom icon? If so, how can I do this? Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Generic urls dragged directly to the "Dock" will use that default icon (or whatever icon is substituted), but every url will use that same icon.
If the goal is to have separate urls in the "Dock", each with its own custom icon, try dragging a url to the "Desktop" first, which should result in the creation of a ".webloc" file. The file can be given a custom icon the usual way via "Get Info", and added to the "Dock", but note that this requires that the ".webloc" file be stored somewhere for that "Dock" shortcut to remain valid.

  • How do I change the description in a url icon

Hi, I like being able to drag a url down to the dock to create a permanent shortcut to that webpage, but how do I change the description that appears above the url icon? I want to create shortcuts to some google forms I created, but when I do so the description is always the URL, which isn't helpful. I need to change the desciption so it says "timesheet" or "sign up form" instead of the url. Is that possible?
Screenshot attached to demonstrate. As you can see in the screenshot, when I hover my mouse over the URL icon, the url appears as a description. But the description is not helpful. I want to change that description to a custom description.

Awesome. Thanks. Found a website that showed me how to find the .png for that icon.
Here's the whole process now, in order, for perpetuity's sake.
    1) Highlight the URL of the website you want to create a dock bookmark for.
    2) Drag the highlighted URL to the desktop, which creates a .webloc file.
    3) Open terminal and type in the following (which will open the icon in preview)
    open /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources/url.png
    4) In preview, highlight the icon and select "copy"
    5) Select the .webloc file on the desktop and choose "get information", which is command-i
    6. Change the name of the file to whatever you want, leaving the .webloc in place.
    7) Select the small icon in the upper left corner. When you do, it will highlight.
    8) Hit "command-v" to paste the icon previously selected over the old icon.
    9) Now drag your newly-icon'd file to the dock, which essentially creates a shortcut.
    10) Place the newly-icon'd .webloc file somewhere safe on your computer.
    11) Congratulate self and thank Matthew Morgan for his help.

  • URL icons and Domain Masking

Okay. I have a new question that needs answering.
I have followed instructions found elsewhere in this forum, and have successfully gotten my url icon to work. If you go to web.mac.com/merchandise1 you can see a little "M" in the bar.
Here's the problem, though. I don't use that address on my business cards, email flyers, etc. I use merchandiseonline.org
The url icons DO NOT WORK when you go to the masked/forwarded url address of merchandiseonline.org
I use DirectNIC for my forwarding purposes. So, my question, then, is:
HOW do you get the favicons (url icons) to work when using a masked address?
I've searched forums upon forums and have not found the answer. I pray someone here will have an idea.
    Thanks,
    James @ merchandise

That second link was a good one. So, that's pretty much it. When you go to www.merchandiseonline.org and view the source (not the frame source), the favicon code is nowhere to be found. However, you can see it in the frame source. But that doesn't matter, in this case, as the frame source isn't actually the page you're looking at (for purposes of the URL icon).
Conversely, if you go to http://web.mac.com/merchandise1 and view the source, the favicon code is there, and you can probably see the icon in the url.
The trouble is, it seems there is no way to edit the source code, since it is a code supplied by the company who holds my domain name (directNIC, in this case). I contacted them, and GoDaddy.com, to see if there was any way to edit (or have them edit) the code into the source of the merchandiseonline.org domain name. After a lot of gobblydeegook talk, they seemed to say "no."
So, unless any of you know a for me to circumvent this roadblock, while being able to keep merchandiseonline.org as my address, I might be out of luck.

  • Url icons vanished? in Mountain Lion

Anyone know why all the small url icons have vanished? since Mountain Lion, bookmark list is just blue balls! Sometimes they appear but after shutting down and re-starting they will vanish again...

Did you clear Safari's history? If so, that also inanely deletes the WebpageIcons and empties the cache. Check Safari help for the details.

  • Can I replace "spring" url icons in the dock w/ custom ones?

    Hi,
I have a program (IconBox) that I can replace icons with on my iMac and I just got a set of cool icons of those little springs--all in different colors and stuff. I would like to stick some of those colored icons on the little spring url icons in my dock...but as you are aware I'm sure...those icons are like "virtual". They don't exist in my files like all the other icons do (as far as I know)...they are only in the dock.
And yet...I have installed programs that had little colored spring url's in the pkg. and they did indeed go into the dock--colors intact. So...I'm pretty sure it CAN be done (somehow...hehe!).
So...if anybody knows if, and how, it can be done...please tell me. I would appreciate it a lot.
    Thanx.

    No. That didn't work.
But it gave me an idea...
I knew that if you dragged the url to the desktop instead of the dock...it would make a little dog-earred piece of paper icon instead of the spring. I replaced that piece-of-paper with the colored spring, and then dragged it to the dock...and it works!
So thanx very much! I wouldn't have thought of that w/o you.

  • How can I change the look of URL Icons?

I have created several web site URL shortcuts and put them in my Dock (actually I just drug the web site URL's to my Dock, Apple crated the ability for me to do so).  I have a iMac desktop, with OS X Mavericks 10.9.1.
My question is:  Is there any way to change the look of the icons for the URLs that I have in my dock? (so far I have 5).  They all look the same, an @ sign on top of a pedestal with a spring.  I would like to at least change the face of the icon, the @ sign, to a picture of my choosing that would enable me to tell the difference of each one at a glance rather than having to slide my mouse pointer over each one to get the name of the web site to pop up.
Below is a picture of three of the icons on my dock.  As you can see they all look the same, almost like the "Contacts" icon which is an @ sign on a book cover.
Best regards and still looking for clues  and answers,
    Peohguy

Your post helped me a lot.  After all of the dust cleared and after sorting through all of the answers, the post(s) that solved my problem were from Kenichi Watanabe.  However, I did have to go through all of Kenichi's posts to get the complete method that worked.  Some of the other posts were difficult for me to comprehend and did not seem to work for me.  I probably didn't do them like the writer's intended?   Again thanks for taking the time to read my question and dig through your memory bank to come up with the thread that helped.
    Best regards,

  • What does url icon do in mac dock?

Its icon is a coiled spring with the letter @ on top. What exactly does it do? I have Windows (not MAC OSx) but I do have some really cool mac stuff like Safari, iTunes, Quick Player etc.
Getting back to my question what does this MAC spring do? I thought I had read it was just a shortcut to a url(s). Pls explain. thanks

This icon got deleted from my dock. Does anyone know how I can restore it?
You don't need it there. If you really want it, just go to the website http://www.apple.com/macosx/ , click the apple logo in the left, and drag it into your dock.

  • HT2450 url icons in the dock

I think it would be great if we could link web apps directly in the app section of the dock, instead of being only able to move them to the bottom part of the dock (trash part..)

Open the AppleScript Editor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and paste in the following:
open location "http://www.apple.com/" --any URL works here
Save it as an application and drag it to the Dock.

  • How To Create Icon & Assign It a URL?

I'm a fan of Google though the only desktop dock icon i know google has is of Google Docs so people can easily access it.
Say I find a Gmail icon online. Can I save it an place it on the dock, with assigning it a URL so when I click on it it'll take me directly to my Gmail, rather than opening up Firefox and so fourth?

Locate the URL icon and select it, then press COMMAND-i to open the Get Info window. Select the image you want to use as the icon image and copy it to the Clipboard. In the Get Info window click on the icon image in the upper left corner then paste the contents of the Clipboard.

  • How to change the icon for a shortcut on the desktop

I created a shortcut on the Desktop (dragging a safari url-icon to the desktop) but the icon showing is a safari icon.
The website has a specific icon, as displayed as the first item (icon) on the url bar in front of the website-URL.
I located the specific icon on the website (favicon.ico), opened it and copied the icon (copy paste).
Then I opened the properties screen for my shortcut (at the Desktop) (control click on link) .
Now I am supposed to copy the new icon (from my Clipboard)  into the properties of the Desktop URL, but how do I do that?

You can change the favicon for a folder but not  a specific Safari url.
Click a clear space on your desktop then go to the Finder menu and click File > New Folder
Move Safari url shortcuts to that folder.
Then copy and paste the icon for the folder.
