I need to change a web link that was submitted to the Knowledge Directory with the Simple Submit. Old URL (http://www.mycompany.asp). New URL (http://www.mycompany.aspx)
I need to change the 'open document url' and it is not an editable field in the card properties. I tried changing the URL property and it didn't have any effect. The portal kept showing the same old document. When I deleted the property the Portal "freaked" out and bombed. I tried re-adding the URL property to the card and it continued "freaking" out and not working.
How is one supposed to update the URL for a card? It seems that this is not possible. As a test. Submit a Web Document using Simple Submit for http://www.espn.comand then change the URL property on the card to http://www.plumtree.com the portal continues to open http://www.espn.com:-((((

There table in portal database called 'ptcards'. Column named 'URL1' holds URLs of submited files.
Change urls then restart IIS on portal server.

Upgrading Knowledge Directory Documents from v5 to v6

Hey,
I am trying to migrate the knowledge directory from a v6 install to v6. The import process is successful but I am unable to launch any of the documents.
The cards appear in the KD, the files are in the ptupload folder.
When I try to launch the document I get the following:
"Directory Listing For /" with no files displayed.
It is running on Apache 5.0.28.
Does anybody have any ideas??

Check the dr.xml in your ptupload config settings(doc rep path till the Glue) also check the config settings for your ptdr (file paths for the ptupload in the dr-server.xml or something like that)
The paths should be correct. after anychanges and restarting apache, try uploading a doc and see if you can see the corresponding .ACT files probably your ptupload could still be pointing to old doc rep.

Unclassified Documents in Knowledge Directory

Does anybody know what the unclassified documents folder is for? We are trying to organize our knowledge directory and can't find in the documentation what this system created folder is for.

I forgot something: I'm using EDK 5.02.

Maximum number of documents knowledge directory can handle

Hi,
I am wondering, what could be the maximum number of documents knowledge directory can handle in terms of indexing and search in WCI 10.0.3 release.
I tried to google and also browsed oracle documentation but didn’t get any clue about the number of taxonomy documents it can handle.
We have to develop a portlet which can perform a customized search (based on custom properties) on a taxonomy folder which would contain almost 2, 00, 000 documents.
Would it be possible in term of performance to manage this number of documents in WCI?

Based on the wording of your post, I assume some degree of familiarity with WCI. Now, there are quite a few variables besides the raw number of documents when it comes to acceptable indexing and search performance. Your best options are: try it, or (if you have a support contract) go through support to get a good answer based on your intended production environment.

Simple submit of web document

When I try to submit a web document in the Knowledge directory, if the site I'm submitting requires authentication or re-directs the document upload fails. Is this by design or should I be able to do this?

You can configure security on a Data Source, such as web site credentials to POST, etc. Then you can add a link using that specific Data Source, and it should work fine.

Metadata and knowledge directory

Does anyone know of a good way to capture extra metadata for documents that are uploaded to the knowledge directory? What we're looking for is a way for users to enter additional properties besides name and description - author, date published, language, etc. We have been using a product that we bought from a vendor but there are some issues, mainly its interacion with search.
So, any ideas on how much customization would be required, or does anyone know of existing solutions? Thanks.

I have done this with crawlers for MS Office documents and PDF's which have custom properties by defining additional property types and attaching them to document types or in the global document type property. The same should work with document upload as well.

Change in Office Online File URL property?

When testing our integration with Office Online this morning, it appears something has changed within the /add(<relative_url> endpoint.
Originally, the URL property of that response gave me a relative path that I could plug into getfilebyserverrelativeurl(<relative_url>). The response I'm now getting back is an absolute path that includes the SharePoint domain.
According to the documentation:

The URL property of a File object is generally suppose to be a relative URL -- according to the FileVersion object.
Can someone confirm this change? And whether or not the URL property is suppose to be absolute or relative?

If you want to use the getfilebyserverrelativeurl method to get the all files from a folder in document library, we can use the relative URL of folder.
Example, we can get all files from the FolderA in Shared Documents(default document library) using this:

Calling up a Performance Manger SPC Chart from a WebI document

Please forgive my terminology, as I'm only a superuser of B.O. not a computer trained person.I have put a few years into configuring WebI document reports in InfoView of B.O. XI 2. Our company is getting into SPC in a big way, hence my attention has turned to Performance Manager. I was disappointed to learn that I have to create a whole new Universe of objects in Performance Manager in order to conduct SPC analysis on the variables I have been reporting in tables & graphs in WebI documents in InfoView.I can learn to accept that aspect of B.O. but I am a little concerned about my users having to navigate through Performance Manager to view SPC analytics. My users have put up considerable resistance just navigating to WebI documents in InfoView.Hope seemed to be around the corner when I read about calling up Performance Manager analytics from WebI documents. Having read the details it seems like these WebI documents are created in the Performance Manager Universe, not in the Infoview WebI documents that I have already developed in InfoView.If anyone can explain and clarify how this feature works, I'd be eternally grateful.

You can Link any documents that are stored as objects in the cmc, regardless of the universe or way in which they were created.openAnalytic.jsp will allow you to open pretty much anything much as does openDocument int the webi world.Once you create the SPC chart in process analysis youll need to view it in the control chart screen then click save as and save it into one of you folders in the corp repository. When this is done you can quickly get an example of the URI syntax by going to create new document in dashboard manger, selecting interactive metric trends, expanding navigation and legend opions, clicking browse, selecting your newly saved analytic and clicking ok. This will but a url into the text box which you can copy and paste into your webi doc links - here's an example of the kind of thing... openAnalytic.jsp?DocumentName=MySPCanalytictest&RepositoryType=C&RepositoryName=SPCTest&DocumentExt=afd&DocumentId=AadTAN28x6lMpTxxlAhW09s&mode=full You may need to stick the odd ../../ or /jsp/ etc in front of the url depecing where you plan to call it from of course. You'll find descriptions of parameters etc for openAnalytic in the product docs. cheers,jez.

How to add a new filter in an existing web service method (BIWS - WEBI document)

Hello Experts, we have 7 web service query's connected to a dashboard. Basically it is one WSDL URL and 7 Get Methods...Web service queries are BIWS (via WEBI document instance). There are filters setup for each of these web service methods.
Recently there was a request to add 2 new fields to the webi document and also the 2 fields need to be included as filters in the 7 methods. I know there is an option to edit the method, but when i edit the method, i cannot find the 2 new fields in list to set as filters.Can anybody help me understand how to add filters to an existiing web service method? I do not want to delete the method and republish the block as web service.
Any help will be great and points rewarded.

Hi Ann,
The reason you are not able to see any of the new columns as a option to select in your web service block is because when you have published that block, they were not present. Add these two new objects in your block and publish it again. You will be prompted for duplication content. Select the highlighted block for duplicate and now you can see the new added objects in the filter option. Update and this will overwrite your published block. Please note, web services do appear to behave weirdly when used with dashboards so I request you to please try it in a separate test report first.

Inserting pictures in Webi documents

I would like to paste or to insert a picture in my webi document. This picture can be a company logo or something like that. But the functionality of inserting a URL which goes to a picture is not enough. Is there no other way of inserting a picture in a webi document?

How to get the RID of the property page of any KM document

Hello Experts,
I want to get the rid of the property page of any km document(details->Settings->Properties). While right clicking on the page i get the rid of that page. some part of the url is consists of render layout set, layout set mode, debug enabled, short contened id etc. I want to get this url dynamicaly so that i can pass it to some function. But this will be unique for every content. How would i get that. I dont want to hard code all the rid of the properties of doc as there is huge documents & will be changed.
Please help me asap.

Error occurred while publishing the content item to the Knowledge Directory

We are receiving the following error upon publishing non-binary content items to the knowledge directory:
Error occurred while publishing the content item to the Knowledge Directory. Contact your portal administrator.
Ironically, in the KD, we call see all content items located in Publisher when we are in Edit mode -- even though they haven't been published to the KD yet. In Browse mode, we can't see any content items.
Has anyone see this error before? What could be the cause?
We are using ALUI 6.1.

If you are seeing the documents in the Knowledge Directory and in edit mode, but not browse mode then check/try the following. What exactly were you doing when you got the error? Were you in Publisher or in the Knowledge Directory and running the Simple Submit task?:
1. Try to approve the documents in edit mode.
2. Go to the Administrative->Intrinsic Operations and run the following jobs.
--> Search Update 1
3. Make sure you have proper permissions on the folder in the Knowledge Directory and Publisher Folders.
4. Check the permissions on the Content Source for the Knowledge Directory
I need a little more information to get your better help.

How can I find out who uploaded a document to the Knowledge Directory?
My users want to know who uploaded the documents they are viewing in the KD. I hope there is some option other then creating "Related Experts" for each folder.
The Collab. Server displays the user who uploaded the documents.

Setting Approving content only to be seen in knowledge directory

Hi- We are trying to implement the workflow of the content server V6.1 to allow publishing content to the document directory. We have set up a workflow , with the initiator step and an approval and publishing step (2 steps ) If the user performs the publishing to directory from the information tab before approving the document, users can see the un-approved document in the knowledge directory.If the user performs the approve function, the workflow ends without the ability to publish, unless we will allow publishing on the first step. Is there a way to set up the flow to allow only approved content to be seen in the knowledge directory ?

Yes, this is likely to be an understood problem. Im guessing this is a cluster install (which is where the problem normally occurs) - in which case the .../SYS/... directory does not exist on the local server.
You need to go into System Administration --> System Configuration then into Knowledge Management --> Content Management.
In here go into Repository Managers - File System Repository. This is the /etc/ repository where all the images etc are stored. You need to complete correctly the Root directory which should be somthing like:
//<cluster share>/<share directory>/<SID>/SYS/global/config/cm/etc
and because its a cluster it MUST be read only. If its not a cluster install then please let the forum know and we can consider other possible solutions. Oh, and dont forget that the portal nodes must be restarted for the change to take effect.
