URL relative to flash button?
Hey Flash Gurus! I'm finishing up a flash template that I have used on numerous occasions and it has worked really well. This time however, the nav button that is used to bring up html pages within my site got out of whack. I have checked (and changed) the flash/menu_v8.swf?button=3 relative to the index page I'm trying to link to, but to no avail. I have also gone into Flash and can change the h-link of the TEXT on the button to the corresponding page, but it makes no changes whatsoever. Does anyone have ANY ideas? Any help would be most appreciated!!!!
Thanks Adninjastrator. Not QUITE sure I follow though. In Dreamweaver, I can
go to the Flash Properties > File textbox and specify which button
(menu_v8.swf?button=3) should correspond to the page I have open. Of course
I save after entering, and when I preview it, the correct page (in this case
index-2.html, which is correct) comes up, but button "4" is highlighted.
Button "3" actually corresponds to index-2. At that point of course, I can't
click on button "4" because it is grayed, which should correspond to
index-3.html.
The funny thing is, when I actually type in the correct url for ALL pages in
the address bar, they all seem to work correctly. It's got me bumfuzzled!
Is there anything else I should try?

Launch 2 urls from one flash button
Hi,
I have a Flash button, which I want to use getURL to both
- call the Google Analytics tracking function
- send the user to a new page
on (release) {
getURL("javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/folder/file.html');");
getURL("some web page");
Currently, only one of these getURL calls works. How can I
get the one Flash function to use getURL twice? Or do I have to do
something different?
Thanks!you cannot make javascript calls using a getURL as of player
9 rev 124. The new security restrictions prevent it, as it is an
insecure method of communication.
To call the javascript function, use the ExternalInterface
class. -
Adding a url to flash buttons in Dreamweaver
I have a web site built and I have recently added Flash buttons and I need to add my web pages to the buttons. How would I go about doing this?
Let's say you create a button symbol. Since it is a button, it is already a self animating object that will react to mouse interactions, but only visually at this stage. The first thing you need to do to make it useful code-wise is to assign it a unique instance name. So you drag a copy of it out to the stage from the library, and while it's still selected, you enter that unique instance name for it in the Properties panel... let's say you name it "btn1"
In AS3, to make a button work with code, you need to add an event listener and event handler function for it. You might need to add a few (for different events, like rollover, rollout, clicking it, but for now we'll just say you want to be able to click it to get a web page to open. In the timeline that holds that button, in a separate actions layer that you create, in a frame numbered the same as where that button exists, you would add the event listener:
btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, btn1Click);
The name of the unique function for processing the clicking of that button is specified at the end of the event listener assignment, so now you just have to write that function out:
function btn1Click(evt:MouseEvent):void {
var url:String = "http://www.awebsite.com/awebpage.html";
var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
navigateToURL(req); -
How do i actionscript my flash button to play the sound while being transfered to another url?
Hi!
As the title says:
How do i get my flash button to play my sound when i click on
it while being transfered to another url?
I did get it to work, but only when i set the script to
"_BLANK". When i clicked the button then it played the sound and
opened the url in a new window. I want it to be in the same window
and still play the whole sound.
Now i get just 1 or 2 sec then when im transfered, it stops
playing the sound.
I hope this explains it..... if any typo....its because im
Swedish =)
Thanks in advance!If you are jumping to another URL using the same window you
cannot have a sound start on the press of a button and that sound
to continue on.
Reason
You are removing all trace of the sound and the swf that
contains that sound file.
Work arounds
1.Take a look at "frames". This way you are keeping the
container page and opening another page inside of that page.
2. Div's. again you are importing a page into a particular
area yet keeping the swf, with the sound playing, in the parent
frame. -

"option b" will probably be your easiest solution...
using different symbols for each state:
Off - frame 1: off state of your button
Over - frame 2: animated version of your movieclip
Down - frame 3: down state of your button

Dreamweaver Flash Buttons Paths
Hello all,
I am a novice site designer. My first challenge is to design a navigation bar once and used by all web pages. I built it using Flash buttons. The concept works fine in a flat file, but when I'm viewing a web page that sits in a different directory than the flash navigation buttons, the buttons point to a file in the current directory which doesn't exist. I want the buttons to still point to the flash files in the parent directory.
I'm using Dreamweaver CS2 to create my flash buttons. I'm using PHP include statements to include my flash navigation bar. When I create the php file in another directory, click on flash button, all heck breaks loose. I look at the URL and the link appends the PHP file that the flash button should be pointing to whatever directory my current web page is in.
It seems like, I should just create each button as a absolute path, http://rootdirectory.com/filename.php, but it still uses relative path when I'm looking at web page that sits in another directory and appends the navigation link to the current directory http://rootdirectory.com/currentdirectory/filename.php although it points to a link in the root or parent directory.
Do I not know how to create flash buttons using the absolute paths?If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
not be spidered
3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
will those users
do?
4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...
Adding in frames makes it even worse - you are in the deep
stuff here. Why
are you using frames?

Flash Button Navigation Issues

Do I not know how to create flash buttons using the absolute paths?Movie1 and Movie2 should have a name in (Properties -
Instance name).
Assuming that button on Movie1 is on the movie, not inside
the movie, that both movies are on the same timeline, and that you
want to go to Movie2 frame 5, for example.
Button on Movie1
on(release){
_root.Movie2.gotoAndStop(5);
Hope this helps. -

Adobe Captivate Flash Buttons in Moodle
I am using flash SWF files to control Captivate Course in Moodle and I have trouble with CLOSE pop up window flash button. It works in IE and FIrefox but not in Chrome and OPERA when course is opened via Moodle. I have created simple html page with link that opens pop up window containing the same course and this way the button works in all browsers. ????? Again, in MOOdle it doesn't.
In Chrome Developer Tools I have tracked this error when clicking on close pop up window flash buttom: Ignoring cross-frame javascript URL load requested by plugin.
The button itself is using this AS3:
pbcExit_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, myBtnClicked);
function myBtnClicked(e:MouseEvent):void {
navigateToURL(new URLRequest("javascript:window.opener=self; window.close()"), "_parent");
Does anyone have a clue what is the problem?

Flash buttons don't appear in browser
I insert a Flash button. It is visible when I preview the
page in a browser that I access from Dreamweaver. But it does not
appear visibly when viewed in a browser independently of
Dreamweaver. A sample of this problem is here:
http://www.newtoncornerneighborhood.org/test.html
I seem, more generally, unable to get any .swf files to
appear visibly using Macintosh Dreamweaver CD3. I did not have this
problem using Dreamweaver MX. Can you help me understand what's
wrong? how to fix this?
Thanks.> But it does not appear visibly when viewed in a
> browser independently of Dreamweaver
You mean when you browse to the file LOCALLY and open it with
the browser?
This is what you SHOULD get if you are using root relative
links, since the
browser has no idea where the root of your site is. In this
case, you would
only see that SWF when you browse to it in DW *AND* you have
enabled preview
with temp files.

I created my template in Dreamweaver and 9 other pages from
the template. Now I inserted flash buttons in the original template
and linked them to all other pages. Buttons work in the original
template but not in any of other pages, even though I updated the
pages with all the changes. What am I doing wrong??? I am losing my
mind here.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks!Flash buttons don't work in any real sense of the word,
anyhow. Why are you
using them?

2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will

It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...
This problem is due to the fact that you are placing the
buttons into a
Template file. In this case, and assuming you want to inherit
all the
problems, make the links to the buttons ROOT RELATIVE.

Can anyone help me with flash buttons? I am trying to build
my first website, and my five flash buttons (inside a 5 col. table)
for page navigation work fine in testing all 5 web pages with
mozilla firefox, and they look the same on the index page when
testing with IE-7. However when I begin navigating to other pages
in IE-7, the flash buttons disappear, and the 5 cols in the table
where each flash button was placed now are not equal sizes anymore
like they are on the index page. In my files area on the right, I
notice 3 out of the five buttons I created have about 15 to 20
"generations" shown there, with numbers 1 through 15 or even more
to qualify them tacked on to the end of the names. Where do these
come from, and why are 2 out of the five only have 1 "generation"
each? I never expected this, and I think it has something to do
with the problem, but maybe not. Please help me if you can!If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?

Your problem is caused by navigating away from the previewed
page. In
general, this is not a good thing to do, since root relative
links will not
work as expected when you do that (locally).

Flash button problem when scrolling
Hello.
I posted this in Dreamweaver forum as well....just in case.
I am using flash buttons for email links in my web site
rather than html email links to help with spamming.
They work great except for one thing. In my site I have a
fixed Div on the left of my pages. The content scrolls sideways
underneath the fixed div. However....the flash buttons scroll over
the TOP of the fixed div while the rest of the content goes under
as it is supposed to. I have the fixed div set at z-index of 2.
This isn't an issue in Firefox, only IE7, so far.
Any one know of an easy fix for this rather than creating a
new div for each of the buttons?
Here is the link to the problem page - its the email link in
red towards the end of the page. Watch the link go OVER the drums
as you scroll. (it should go under)
http://dev.informarch.com/wm/article3/flashBtnScrollexample.html
Thanks in advance for any help.
KenHello,
Try this and see if it works
In your HTML go to where the <object> tag is that loads
your flash button.
Add this parameter within it.
<param name="wmode" value="transparent">
Then add the following inside the <embed> tag
wmode="transparent"
This is taken from an article from this site
