URL to see what's using data on my phone

While live-chatting with service agent, she gave me a URL to see what is using data on my phone. The URL didn't work. Can you send me the correct URL?

Thank you! I appreciate the insight. The data calculator provides a generic form of assistance showing what type of services use the most data, vzw.com/datacalculator . You may also review the link provided here to get an understanding of what apps currently have the ability to use data services on your device. http://vz.to/1wgfGye

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • How do I check to see WHAT'S using up the most storage.

I have a 500gb Drive but only 11 free.  Wanted the best way to see what's using up space.  I can randomly hit command I on folders and check that way, but was wondering if there was a way to see a document or spreadsheet, or pie chart of everything taking up space.  Thanks all.

Not really, no.  I'm sure there's probably a command-line program that might give you similar information, but that's not for the faint of heart.
If you are feeling brave you could try something like this:
    open
    Applications > Utilities > Terminal
and in the Terminal Window type:
find the Path to the folder -ls | cut -c 48-200 | sort -rn | more
this will create a directory listing for all the files in the folder and its subfolders and sort them reverse by size and print a listing. The first column contains the file size in Bytes and pipes the listing thru more. You will have to enter  a blank to advance and a q to quit.
For example, on my MBP the following command gives this result:
    find /Users/dreschle/Music/iTunes/iTunes\ Music/The\ Beatles -ls | cut -c 48-200 | sort -rn | more
    [Eliza:~] dreschle% find /Users/dreschle/Music/iTunes/iTunes\ Music/The\ Beatles -ls | cut -c 48-200 | sort -rn | more

and I see that from all Beatles albums I own the biggest is "Hey Jude" with 7 MB
If you want to use this command often you could create a shell script, an an apple script or an automator Workflow.

  • How to determine what's using data store temp space?

How can one determine what's using data store temp space? We are interested to know what structures are occupying space in temp space and if possible what pid/process connected to TimesTen created them.
Also, is there a procedure that will work if temp space is full?
Recently one of our data stores ran of space. We we're unable to run commands like "monitor", "select * from monitor", "select count(*) from my_application_table", etc. These commands failed because they required temp space to run and temp space was full. We killed the application processes, this in turned freed up temp space, then we were able to run these queries.
Ideally, we'd like to have a procedure to figure out what's using temp space when temp space is full.
The other thing we could do is periodically monitor temp space prior to it filling to determine what's using temp space.

That was my original thought, but once you click the slider track or thumb, and then enter a value in the text control, the clickTarget on the change event envoked by the change to the bound data (after entering a value in the text control) will be whatever slider element had last been clicked. If you've never clicked the slider, clickTarget=null. But once you've clicked the slider the clickTarget always has a value of "thumb" or "track", regardless of what triggered the change event.

  • Why do i keep getting 'to use data on your phone, you'l need add on pack' texts?

I ordered a pay as you go sim card from EE a few weeks ago to use in my iphone 5 as a second/work phone. The package on the sim is a 'top up £1 and get some free mins and texts (no data allowance)' plan. I put the sim card in my phone and have left the phone at home and not put any credit on it yet or used it at all, ( not even any apps/calls etc ). Every day when i come to look at the phone there are atleast 4 text messages a day from EE saying 'To use data on your phone, you'll need an add-on pack Click here to buy'. I am getting sick of this as i have turned mobile data off in the settings and my phone is constantly connected to my home wi-fi so cannot see how it would even by using any data. Today i have come home to 8 of these messages! I refuse to top my phone up with credit and start using it until this is sorted as im not paying for any data usage i wont use! There are no apps running in the background, and nothing has been set up on the phone that would require internet usage i.e. emails / weather etc. Please can someone help me...  Thanks

Hi,  I also recieved thousands of messages saying that I need to buy add-on, that's anoying.  I called EE for 3 hours and they are not able to deal with that. They just try to make my mobile phone responsible. What can I do?  Thank you.

  • How do i see what is using space on startup disc

I am trying to see how much space is being used on my computer in the different areas; documents, photos, videos, etc.  To see what i can delete to free space.  Is there some way to check this?

GrandPrespective is a free utility that is well regarded. It gives you a visual representation of disk use.

Daisydisk is a shareware application that has similar functionality.

You can also free up space by deleting unused binaries from your applications. XSlimmer does this for you.

You can also compress your data folder and make better use of the space you have. Clusters does this for you.

  • Leaving data roaming ON while abroad: what apps use data in the background?

As a quick preface, I've had an iPhone since Week 1 in the summer of 2007. I've been working outside the U.S. for well over a year now, so I've been roaming with my iPhone for almost the entire time I've owned it. I had kept data roaming turned OFF since the fall of '07, when a software update brought it as an option, but visual voicemail continued to work as always even when data roaming was OFF (under software versions 1.x).
After hearing about the early bugs with iPhone software v2.0, I stuck with the last version of 1.x until about a month ago. While I like almost everything about 2.2, I was dismayed to notice that visual voicemail no longer worked if data roaming was turned OFF. (Apparently, the visual voicemail "loophole," for lack of a better phrase, was closed with 2.0 or a subsequent version of the software.)
This has left me facing a conundrum: Turning data roaming ON might leave me susceptible to a big data roaming bill, while leaving it OFF leaves me in the dark as far as the existence and Caller ID of new voicemail(s).
QUESTION: Does anyone know of the DEFINITIVE list of which iPhone apps use data roaming in the background? That is, if I leave data roaming ON but NEVER use the email app or Safari or YouTube or any other app that accesses the internet and would incur data charges (or, at least, never use any of those apps unless connected to a WiFi network), which apps will use data in the background anyway, WITHOUT me actually launching the app?
Back in the 1.x versions, I'm not aware of any apps that used data unless the user actually launched an app, but I've noticed that, under 2.2, Apple's App Store app routinely connects to the internet on its own to check for updates if I have data roaming enabled. (I'd like to turn this OFF, but doing so doesn't appear to be an option.)
I'm hoping App Store is the only app that has this (bad) behavior, and that I'd be safe leaving data roaming ON while consciously avoiding using data over the EDGE network, but I have no idea if apps like Stocks, YouTube, Weather, etc., have been updated, in 2.x or even 2.2, to check for updates in the background, and thus run up data roaming charges.
If anyone can shed any light on this, it would be much appreciated. Thanks very much.

The iPhone is officially unlocked and can be used with whatever provider/SIM card.
But imagine, we are a team of around 20 people, travelling to all kind of different countries all over the world (changing, not the same person is always travelling to the same countries), and of course (I didn't mention this in my first post), we also have to stay in contact by phone. In addition, also whatsapp is based on the phone number as far as I know, which is our main "quick" communication tool. It would never work out that all of us inform the others all the time about the changing phone numbers, depending on which country each individual is at the moment.
Your answer unfortunately just confirmed what my researches so far resulted in... there really seems to be no apple-like easy solution to manage data roaming for apps individually. In the beginning I was sure to quickly find something in the appstore, since I assume my situation is not such an exception. I guess I have to start learning how to program apps! :-)
Anyway, thanks for your answer! As I mentioned before, every idea is appreciated.

  • What's using data at 2 AM?

Something is using data every day at 2:06 AM or thereabouts.  How can I tell what app is doing that?
Sometimes is something trivial like 40 or 28.1 kb.  But sometimes it gets up to like 25,700 or 29,000 kb!

Don't look at your bill - that's not the time the data was used, it's the time it was printed on your statement.

  • All of a sudden my data usage has exceeded my program.  I NEVER use data on the phone.  What could be causing data to be used up?

I have had iphone 4 for almost 2 years.  I never go over my data usage.  After I updated to IOS5 I go over my data.  I stopped using ANY data except at home where I have wifi and I still get alerts that I am about to go over or do go over.  It is almost like something is staying logged in and using data time even when I back out to the home (app) screen.  Any Ideas?

No one can answer that but you. Somewhere on your device it should say what apps use what. Also I would recommend that you shut off mobile data while wi-fi is on and not assume you won't use mobile data just because wi-fi is on. Also set wi-fi not to shut off when the phone goes to sleep if there is setting. This is the problem with iPhones. Android does it right and leaves wi-fi alone until you decide to shut it off.

  • HT1430 How do I turn off the data when I am not in a WiFi location? I noticed that I am using data when the phone is "on" and I am not in a WiFi situation, but not on the internet. So, how do I turn off the data?

How can I turn off the LTE data when I am someplace where there is not WiFi and I do not want my LTE running up a bill? I have tracked my usage and realize that the LTE is being used even when I am not using it, just because the phone is turned on.

Merely being on should not use any data.  You must have something running - something using push notifications, or push email, prhaps?
So, you can either track down what is using the data and change it, or you could go in and disaple cellular data in your settings.
One other thing to check is
Settings -> General -> About -> Diagnostic and Usage data -> set it to "Don't Send"
Settings -> Restrictions -> Location Services -> System Services -> turn all these "OFF" (this will not affect how you use your phone at all, but will stop any outgoing location information being sent periodically back to Apple).

  • Does my devices that are on my apple account use data from apple phone

Will all devices on my apple account use data from my apple phone Grimm at&t.  Snapchat or face time

Are you referring to cellular data? Is your iPad wifi + cellular? Your iPad cellular is separate from your iPhone cellular account.
Facetime on an iPad only works on wifi.
    Can you explain your concern?

  • How can I see what's using all my hard disk space

The other day I noticed my HD has 3GB left of memory, but my Home folder is only using 67GB. How can I figure out what is hogging all my space and get rid of it? I do use Bittorrent but I highly doubt that would account for the loss of free space.
Message was edited by: Jeremy Sample

Start with the freeware Grandperspective. The interface is a bit unusual, but it should help you figure out what's taking up all your space.
And of course make sure you're emptying the Trash.
    Regards.

  • How can I see what computers are authorized for my phone?

I'm using an iPhone 4 on iOS 7.1.  I have a new computer and need to de-authorize one of my old ones to add the new one.  I can't see a list of all the authrozied computers.  My only choice seems to be 'de-authorize all', which I really don't want to have to do.
Does anyone know how to diplay the coputers that are authorized?

See:  "How do I know how many computers are authorized?"  >  Authorize your Mac or PC using iTunes
